  1. The Hamilton Beach Turbo-Twister is the one kitchen tool I use every day. I throw a cup of frozen berries into a milk-shake container, add a scoop of protein powder, a cup of water, zip, zap, (ten seconds of immersing the tip into the container), and my healthy breakfast is ready. Cleanup takes running hot water over it's tip for a couple seconds. If I use fresh fruit, I add a couple of ice cubes and zap a little longer. It handles ice with ease. I bought this one to replace one I used for several years. Tried another brand, didn't work because the design caused berries to get hung up in the shield and did not finely blend. Great product, no need for a messy blender.

  2. It first cracked. Then the spinning blade stopped spinning. Maybe the tasks I used it for (smoothies with frozen fruit & nut-based purees) were too difficult for it?

  3. Very good hand blender for the price. We've tried it for milkshakes (used the higher speed when ice cream was hard) and used the wire whisk for stirring gravy in the pot while over heat. Worked just fine. The wire whisk attachment is a nice addition.

  4. I've been addicted to hand blenders for years. I bought this one when my previous, 6 year old Hamilton Beach, one died. Power level is just as good but what is this see through plastic all about? The first time I went to blend soup it melted out of shape and some shards came off it! I can't count the number of times I have performed this task with other blenders and I've never had a problem.

  5. I love this product! It is the most used tool in my kitchen. My daughter dropped my original one and I didn't rest until I found the exact same one to replace it! You ought to see how easy you can make guacamole with it! I wouldn't be without it. I'm sure I'll wear it out eventually (as much as I use it)...

  1. This is great for making smoothies in the a.m. I haven't had any problems with it - I use frozen fruit and juice and it works great. The cup is HUGE - I wish it were a bit smaller, say 12 oz. I use this almost every morning and have used it for about 2 mos. and it works fine.

  2. It gives off some sort of burning oil smell when it's running. It can sit there and not chop up anything without constantly helping it along. And when you go to take the lid off, the base of it gets screwed on so tight while it's running, it's nearly impossible to get it off.

  3. I am writing my very first negative product review ever! I have owned this Back to Basics Blender Express before. My first one wore out after a few years use. I make smoothies in them on a daily basis.I have no problem with it wearing out. I just recently ordered a replacement BPE3BRA3 (Back-Basic Blender). My first one arrived dead! The second one, immediately replaced by target.com(Amazon.com) arrived and I put 3 ice cubes, yogurt, frozen berries, 1 TBS of protein powder and water in it like I have for 1800 other times and the motor burned out on its first use in less that 30 seconds. The company Back to Basics has obviously cheapened this product over the years decreasing the amps in the motor or something. This was the best tool in my kitchen the past 3 years and I loved it! It is a shame they had to cheapen it up to compete with the other cheap products in the market........bad decision! Now I am stuck with it because I never anticipated the replacement unit to not work, I THREW OUT THE BOX! I am soooo disappointed! Looks like I will have to pay for the Magic Bullet!

  4. I bought mine 3 years ago and it's worked fine since. About a year after purchase I ended up buying the extra 2 mug set. Now I guess I just have to buy the 12 & 18 oz cups and chopping blade, you can do that at the website. I don't mind, this appliance is the best personal blender I've used.

  5. easy to clean and use, I've only had it for a few weeks now, and I am very happy with the quality at which it chops and grinds making the perfect smoothie as well as purees.

  1. This blender is just right. My husband and I make smoothies five days a week for breakfast. The blender can not handle chopping ice but that is fine with my husband and i becasue we like our smoothies thicker and chopped ice waters the smoothies down. Instead we just put come ice cubes in it and give the mug a good shake or two. Come out great.

  2. if what you want is no muss, no fuss, and the perfect tool for the job, then this is the smoothie and frappachino maker for you. i have used mine at least 2x daily for months now. the only issue is that the gasket has come loose a couple of times, but hardly a major issue since it so simple to gently press it into place again that it only seems worthy of mentioning to dispell the notion that this is a major defect or design flaw. i've had zero leaks and zero mishaps. i love the speed and ease with which it chews through ice and frozen fruit, making yummy drinks. the huge plus is that this really isn't noisy at all. this is so much better than the magic bullet, so if you're on the fence, give it a try.

  3. I bought this blender a few years ago to make smoothies with on a daily basis. I've used it nearly every day since. It's held up beautifully. The only thing that's worn out since buying it was the rubber ring that fits inside the blade cap. Even without the rubber seal, I've never had any problems with messy leaks. This blender is quick and easy and you can grab the final product and go. You don't have to deal with using a big blender for making food for just one. It's less to clean up too. It's small so it fits conveniently on the countertop. I can't praise this product enough. I love it and couldn't live without it.

  4. After trying another personal blender and having some minor issues, I thought I'd try a new brand, and picked this one up. The end assessment: as cheap as it is, it's not worth your money. I highly recommend you pick a different brand.

    Pros:
    1) When I made shakes in it with crushed ice, it crushed the ice fairly well. (But see #1 below)

    Cons:

    1) Flimsy materials: I have only had this blender for *2 months,* and already the plastic cup is cracking from the pressure of blending ice in it. These small hairline cracks are now seeping beads of liquid out of them. Soon they'll get larger and the blender will be completely unusable. A blender that can't handle ice shouldn't be called a blender.

    2) Heavy: The base is surprisingly heavy and wide in circumference; it would not make for a light and easy travel blender if you are looking for something to take on trips.

    3) Stupidly designed: The design is just nonsensical. Though not described in the product description or in most of these reviews, the way this product works is that you have to fill the blender's mug as you would fill any normal cup, then put on the top (which contains the blender wheel), and then TURN THE MUG UPSIDE DOWN to attach it to the blender. Naturally, this can cause any number of mishaps--if the seal isn't quite tight enough, you and the blender are going to get covered in whatever you're blending. Or, it could just fall off if you turn it over and it's not tight enough. Plus, after blending, when you turn the cup back upright to actually open it and drink your concoction, a great majority of your mix sticks to the wheel on the top. This means you lose a good portion of your drink.

    4) Can't add in ingredients once you close it: Finally, this design doesn't allow you to easily or non-messily add extra ingredients in midway. So for example, if you want to blend ice and liquid first, and then add fruit or whatever, it's a problem in a way it wouldn't be for normally upright blenders.

  5. I had already purchased elsewhere and loved it , I accidently broke the cup and had to buy another one .I love it for my energy shakes , and smoothies .It is great quick and easy to go...

  1. For many years, I have used a blender to make milkshakes. This is not the easiest way, so I decided to buy a unit similar to ones found in ice cream shops. I picked this unit because of the chrome finish--easier to keep clean. I am VERY happy with this item. I keep it on my kitchen counter ready to use. SO easy--just add ice cream, milk, flavoring and mix. The turn top for speed control is easy to use. It blends the ingredients quickly and easily. The container is easy to handle--I just wish the container held a little more. What a great buy!

  2. Bought this product because of its reasonable price and retro look. Pop uses it every time the grands come for dinner... its an after dinner tradition to watch Pop make milkshakes the old fashioned way. I priced other similar products... this one was the best priced with the right look. Makes great shakes. Looks nice on my counter tucked in a corner waiting for the next family event! Cleans easily. Doesn't take up much space.

  3. I bought this mixer exclusively to make milkshakes. With medium hard ice
cream it boughs down severely and takes a couple of minutes to completely
mix the ingredients... milk, chocolate fudge, malt. As "Scotty" would say
"aye need mooore power", so I bought a commercial Hamilton Beach mixer with 3/4 hp...

  4. it makes very good malteds for those who complain send them to our local malt shoppe and pay three dollars for a stinking malted!

  5. The product is nice and does what we expected it to do pretty well. The only downside is not being able to take the blade off to wash it.

  1. without question, BEST blender I've ever used. Crushes ice in mere seconds with NO chunks or ice pieces - period! I make a smoothie drink every morning using powder Isagenix mix, water, fresh fruit and 6 large ice cubes. Creates unbelieve thick smooth shake with absoulety no ice chips. Expensive, yes, but you get what you pay for. Makes incredible frozen Margharita's too! - Purchase this bar blender, you will not be dissapointed.

  2. Works great but it is TOO LOUD. Wish I had done more research before purchasing. For the price, I expected it to be quieter. Friends have bought blenders from other places. (i.e. Williams & Sonoma) and tell me theirs is not noisy.

  3. This is hands down the best blender I have ever used! It has no trouble with quickly blending everything I put in it. It's easy to clean, it's sooo nice looking and I love the cloverleaf container design! No latching the jar onto the base, simply set the container on the base and little feet against the clover leaf shape hold it in place. I'm so happy every morning when I go to make my vita-smoothie! Buy it! You'll love it!

  4. I've had the blender about 3 weeks and have used it several times for pureeing soup and yesterday for pureeing softened dried peppers. It has done an excellent job on each. The minimal number of settings (high and low) has not been a detriment -- medium is still stronger than my previous Krups blender. The blade moves the contents around very well.

    I'm glad I chose it.

  5. This blender is amazing, it is the best I have ever bought or seen. It makes my shake with ice in about 15 seconds, it is not loud and there are no ice lumps left. It looks great, easy to clean, etc. I bought the stainless steel model, it comes as one container and is great.
I could not be happier with any product, I had bought the Magic Bullet before this and it does nothing compared to this.

I would highly recommend this product to anyone searching for a blender that is quick, quiet, beautiful, performs magnificently and a very good buy.

Buy it, you will love it!

  1. I must totally agree with the reviewer that called this blender "Utter Garbage".

Same thing happened. The drive shaft sheared off after filling it with water and then dropping in a piece of banana.

The really crazy thing is this exact thing has happened 3 times in less then a year. Sure they send me a new blender each time it happens but it takes 2-3 weeks to get the new blender. So no blender in the house for 2-3 weeks each time this happens.

The "Utter Garbage" reviewer left her review in Sept. 2004 and today is March 5, 2008 and it still seems to be the exact design on this model blender.

I will just keep calling for a new blender each time the new one they send me breaks, but oh what an inconvenience! Just say NO!

  2. Awesome blender, a tad loud but that is ok with me. Good construction and a nice look.

  3. While the quality of the blender is not in question, the quality of the shipping leaves much to be desired. The box was prviously opened and the blender top was missing. The product was advertised as new.

The product was a gift, so when the person opened it...well, you can imagine the embarrasment.

    Nothing like Amazonian quality!

  4. I just got this blender as a gift today. I had requested one that would fit on my counter under my cabinets (less than 13.75 inches). This one is listed on this website as being 13 inches tall, so it should have worked. But when I assembled it, it was almost 16 inches tall! I may be able to store the jar elsewhere. It all looks great, but I liked keeping my old (but recently fried) Hamilton Beach on the counter top. So, in case your space is height-challenged, be warned that this one probably won't fit.

  5. I have owned this blender for a bit over a year now.
It is extreamly noisy. The motor is not nearly as powerful as my prior cheap blender. It really struggles to mix any kind of food.

Now it started leaking. The support for this blender is horrible. There was no part # for the blade (source of leak) in the manual. I called their 800 number and a recording said they had too many calls and to call back in another time.

I will never ever buy an Oster product again.

  1. This is the best blender I have ever purchased. The chop ice option is great. It is easy to use and easy to clean up after use.

  2. This should have been the best blender on the market. Quiet, yet powerful. Easy to clean. Glass jug. Stable base on jug so it won't tip over. Acceptable price. One problem. It lacks power, no matter how many watts it's supposed to be. It can't handle the task if the ingredients are not thinned out first by adding lots of water. The motor burns out. (That's happened twice.) So keep your receipt (although the warranty is only one year). If you do buy one of these, be sure to put clear plastic tape (the wide kind you use for packages) over the buttons to keep liquids and powders from getting inside them. You just push the buttons through the tape.

  3. I received it for my bridal shower. Broke it out for the july 4th weekend to make frozen watermelon margheritas. yum (frozen watermelon cubes, contreau, lime juice, tequila- much more healthy than the shakes described in the other reviews;. It did smell, but so did my new toaster, its just a new appliance smell. It DID blend the margheritas, but it left chunks of watermelon in the center. Not the worst experience, but this thing is like a tank compared to my hamilton beach blender that did the job (loud) but got it done. i wouldnt run out to buy it, but its not the worst.

  4. I've had this blender over a year now, but have not used it excessively.

I've started using it again recently to make raw green smoothies & other raw smoothies. It works perfectly for me.

I'm not sure why some people are having trouble with the bottom falling off?? Bizarre, since the bottom twists & locks into place. I guess if you don't attach it properly in the first place, then it's your own fault that the bottom falls out. Seriously, there's no way for the bottom to come off unless you do not attach it properly. You have to push it down & twist it & you will hear it click & lock onto the jar. Anyway...

It blends everything perfectly for me. Some of my latest creations have included watermelon, bananas, strawberries, baby carrots (whole), spinach, kale, watercress, blueberries, cherries, mangoes, pineapple, raw almonds, sunflower seeds, flax seeds, raw oatmeal, and everything else you can imagine. It liquefies everythng I put in there easily & quickly.

When it was brand new, yes, it gave off a burning rubber kind of smell. But that's typical of most new appliances such as this. It's just how things are. It goes away after a few uses.

The glass jar is awesome - very heavy duty. So much nicer than plastic!

At any rate, its a nice blender as far as I'm concerned. It does what I need it to do, cleans super easy, and doesn't take up huge amounts of counter space.

  5. This is a great heavy duty blender. It is also quiet as comparied to others I have owned.

  1. This is the perfect accessory when making margaritas. I actually leave the salt in the tray using the cover which allows me to use the salt over again. The small size of the tray, cutting board for limes & cover works just right. There is no mess on the shelf when putting the salt rim on the margarita glasses. I would recommend this to everyone as it is just the right size, very convenient to use and priced right.

  2. Why waste your money? Dump some kosher salt on a plate. Does the same thing and doesn't take up extra space in your kitchen/money.

  3. You're better off buying the cheaper version at wallmart. This one was a little akward to use. I do, however, LOVE, love love my new margaritaville machine. It absolutely rocks.

  3. We really use our blender several times daily. When the blade's plastic base fell apart, we were fortunate to find the perfect replacement at a fraction of the cost of a new blender.
