  1. This is easily the noisiest blender I've ever owned. I worry about setting off car alarms on the street when I run it. But it's also the most effective blender I've ever had. It's easy to clean, easy to run, totally powerful and I'd recommend it to anyone. An excellent value.

  2. My roommate moved out, along with her blender. I chose this as a replacement since it was on sale and touted the "wave action" design. The first problem was that this blender doesn't do the best job of blending. The blades will just move whatever it is out of the way your blending and spin freely unless it's babied with only a little bit of material at a time to start things off. The wave action does seem to work and helps for adding extra ingredients to smoothies. it is incredibly loud and hops about the countertop unless held down. The base heats up very quickly and I have no doubt this is what caused the motor to fail. This blender is a POS in nearly every way excpet that it is easy to take apart and clean. but what does it matter when it breaks after being used a few times.

  3. I bought the 10-speed Wave-Action blender specifically for making fruit smoothies. I've tried it three times, and it's no longer welcome in my house. Even after cutting up frozen strawberries by hand, I still have to stop the blender multiple times in an attempt to shake or shove the berries into the vacinity of the blades. And that doesn't even work, as evidenced by the very, very chunky fruit smoothie I just ate (many of the berries were the same size they went in, after several rounds of "blending"). I wouldn't recommend this blender unless you enjoy periodically raising your blood pressure to dangerous levels.

  4. Since my new blender arrived, I have been on a spree of smoothies and sauces. The unit is versatile and very easy to clean, and I especially like that the 'wave action' eliminates the need to use a spoon or scoop to remove finished contents. Overall, it is a superb value for the price.

  1. Bought this blender to replace a leaky burned out Krups piece of junk. This blender makes excellent smoothies in 1/2 the time. The wave action is awesome. You have never seen a blender act in this manner. Very innovative design. The blue light is also an excellent touch.

Biggest issue is that after 3 weeks of daily use this blender is dead. It lights up and beeps, but no blending action. Looks like the product reliability and quality is lackiing. I'm returning it back to the store for my money back.

  2. This blender works great for smoothies. It chops up ice nicely. I have put a half cup size piece of ice (shame on me) in and it chops it up with no problems. The canister is thick glass and heavy duty. The blade mechanism will not rust. The neon blue light is a cool attribute. The silver piece the canister screws into is plastic and I wouldn't consider that too heavy duty. The pulse option is great with the ice. This is a very capable blender.

  3. I use this blender every day and just love it. The smoothies I make come out perfect and no matter what I add to it the blender proves itself over and over. The blue light on the bottom looks classy on the counter. Easy to clean and the blender is well made and I am sure will hold up for years to come.

  1. I have had this immersion blender for almost a year now and i agree with the reviewer that says how powerful it is. I also use it mostly for soups and in seconds its smooth. I would also like to address the other reviewer who is afraid to use it on his pots. I sue this with my Le Creuset cast iron, and there is a never even a mark on the enamel. I highly recommend this product.

  2. I bought this because of the positive review here and a confidence in the Viking name. However, I did not even want to start using this because the bottom section that would be coming into contact with a pan, or whatever container being used, is so sharp, there's no way it wouldn't scratch them. I'm surprised that such a significant part of an immersion blender would be so overlooked by a company like Viking.

  3. I've used several other hand blenders from Braun and Kitchen-Aid, and while some of those models were very capable, this is in a completely different class. This isn't just an "upgrade," it's an entirely different device. The Kitchen-Aid and certain Braun models are fine for most tasks, but they are like kids' toys compared to the Viking. This hand blender has so much more power than those models, which makes it much quicker and more efficient at its tasks. I mostly use it for pureeing soups, a task that takes forever with those lesser brands, and never comes out perfectly smooth. My practice was always to strain the soups through a fine-mesh sieve after blending, because it was always necessary--there would be little fibrous chunks left over, and the puree would never be as silky as I wanted. But with the Viking that's completely unnecessary. For a big pot of butternut squash bisque, for instance, it takes about 15 seconds with the Viking to get the entire thing silky smooth, whereas with one of Braun's "professional" models, I'd have to blend for a minute, then wait for the unit to cool down, then blend more, then finally force the puree through a sieve. I should note that the Viking's manual also recommends only one minute of continuous use--the difference is that I can't imagine anything taking more than a minute with this thing.

This Viking model creates such a vortex in the pot that it ensures no chunks are left by cycling through all of the liquid very rapidly. For the same reason, the puree gets silky smooth in almost no time.

You know how there's a big difference between the power of a Kitchen-Aid stand mixer and a Kitchen-Aid hand mixer? Well, it's the same way between a really nice consumer blender and a Kitchen-Aid or Braun hand blender. With the Viking, there is no such difference. This is as powerful as any consumer-level blender I've used.

In addition, the construction feels extremely solid. It's heavy, and it's stainless steel, which also means the business end can go in the dishwasher, if that's your thing. But it's still ergonomically designed so that it feels great in your hand. My one complaint is that you have to hold the button as long as you want to keep it going. I wish there were a way to set it to stay on a particular speed setting.

  4. I've had only great experiences with the Viking Pro Han Blender. I use it several times a week. The dual speeds work fine, the motor is powerful enough to chop even very hard foods, and after many months, I've not had any problems. I've tried at least 5 other brands, and this one is a solid piece of equipment. Another reviewer had problems with his/her unit and customer service, but I've had only great performance from it (buy the optional chopping attachment to get the best use of it).

  5. I recently purchased the Viking Hand Immersion Blender with Chopper Attachment to replace my existing Kitchen Aid Immersion Blender. It was perfectly fine, I just thought I would "upgrade". I was sorely disappointed when I took it for a test run. First of all, it only has two speeds (which I knew going into it), unfortunately only 1 speed worked! On top of that it was very difficult to remove the attachments from the "stick" . I promptly returned the obviously defective product and anxiously awaited it's replacement. Alas, more disappointment...brand new (not refurbished) unit had the exact same problem - only 1 speed worked! On top of that the company that services Viking's countertop products (which is independent of viking) was miserable at customer service and the folks at Viking didn't really seem to care either. After that I called it quits, got my money refunded and bought the chopper and whisk attachments for my existing Kitchen Aid Hand Immersion Blender and I couldn't be happier. My KA quite simply rocks!

  1. My wife and I are happy with this mixer. I won't repeat what other's have said, but my only comment is the silver motor housing is made of shiny plastic. For the cost of this mixer, I would expect it to be made of metal. It does make delicious shakes and it's easy to clean.

  2. I, too, was hesitant about spending this much $$ to make milkshakes; however, the kids love to make shakes and the standard blender is hard for them to clean (not to mention the sharp blades). After our first use, my 15-year-old son said that he was "Ecstatic!". Anyone with teenagers knows how hard it is to achieve an emotional response--normally I get a monosyllabic grunt.

  3. My family loves old fashioned, real milk shakes. This product works like a dream and I made a perfect milk shake on the first attempt. It is sort of big and I was trying to find a place to store it in my kitchen and my family laughed. Keep it on the counter, they said, it won't be worth your time to put it away! It is worth every penny!!!

  4. Earth to Waring, Earth to Waring: Standard American kitchens are designed with 18" of clearance from the counter top to the bottom of the cabinets. Your 18 3/8" tall mixer DOES NOT FIT on most kitchen counters. Hello, Waring, do you copy?

The unit looks well made, but the ridiculously tall design makes it impossible to store. It's also overpriced. It's going back...

  5. Our daughter loves fruit smoothies more than anything, so we ordered the Waring Drink Mixer for her for Christmas. When we opened it up to set it up on Christmas Eve, there was no mixing cup in the box. It may be a good product, but poor customer service ruined her Christmas morning...

5 comments about Cuisinart CSB-33 QuikPrep Hand Blender.

  1. Having been a long time user of a similar product (Moulinex Turbo) for 8 years, my old unit had seen better days and was in need of replacing. So, I made some assumptions about the product based on my experience with my other Cuisinart products and purchased the CSB-33 QuikPrep Hand Blender. Much to my dismay, the Cuisinart hand blender performs nowhere nearly as well as the Moulinex did the day I threw it away. The Cuisinart has a blade that is not sharpened. Consequently, it doesn't cut up food (like blueberries, for instance) very well. It just sort of beats stuff to a pulp, quite literally, and doesn't puree them into liquid. It also has a system of holes around the perimeter of the blade guard that just get clogged up.

  2. I owned a Braun Miniprimer Plus Hand Blender, with variable speeds and broad stainless steel housing for the blades. I had it for years and worked great until the motor finally gave up, but it's no longer available. I purchased the Cuisinart CSB-33 QuikPrep Hand Blender. It is supposed to have two speeds, but really hard to tell the difference and either button needs to be held down very firmly. I always have to use it at high speed and then takes a long time to completely blend. So far I have only used it for light liquids such as protein drinks, sometimes containing a cut-up banana. It can't chop any firmer fruits or vegetables.

It also cannot stand. The flimsy plastic housing for the blades has 3 little knobs on which this top-heavy blender is supposed to stand. This morning I stood it upright in its two-cup plastic container and it immediately fell over, splashing protein drink everywhere, which then ran under my coffee maker, my very heavy mixer and several cannisters. I am thankful I wasn't trying to blend hot soup on the stove.

If you aren't prepared to lay it on its side when not firmly holding it and the container its in, this blender may not be for you, either.

  3. I had this hand blender when it came with the stainless steel beaker cup (which I did keep), the plastic beaker, lid, chopper & 3 blades. I loved all the gadgets & gizmos it came with. It was very nice to start, but once I started chopping fresh fruits...BOOM! --Sounded like a gun went off! It died. Maybe they are different now? hmmm...sounds like the motor hasn't improved too much though.

I'll just stick with Cuisenart's bar blender.

  4. I bought the Cuisinart Immersion blender a year and a half ago, and used it 2-3 times a week with passable (if noisy and slighly lumpy) results, until it died last week. I was pleased with my Cuisnart until I replaced it with the KitchenAid Immersion blender. This thing ROCKS. It's quieter, twice as powerful (check the amps!), has nine speeds AND a detachable blade arm for easy, submersable, cleanup. Best of all, it leaves no lumps. You can taste the difference!

  5. What a useful little blender/chopper! Much better than the old electric hand blender I used to own. I had the kind with two "beaters" that would spin. The mixer would often cause liquids to spray. The cuisinart csb-33 hand mixer's design prevents liquids from spraying and it's very easy to clean. Just a quick rinse under in some hot soapy water is all it needs.

I would definitely recommend this for anyone.
