  1. Bought this blender to replace a leaky burned out Krups piece of junk. This blender makes excellent smoothies in 1/2 the time. The wave action is awesome. You have never seen a blender act in this manner. Very innovative design. The blue light is also an excellent touch.

Biggest issue is that after 3 weeks of daily use this blender is dead. It lights up and beeps, but no blending action. Looks like the product reliability and quality is lackiing. I'm returning it back to the store for my money back.

  2. This blender works great for smoothies. It chops up ice nicely. I have put a half cup size piece of ice (shame on me) in and it chops it up with no problems. The canister is thick glass and heavy duty. The blade mechanism will not rust. The neon blue light is a cool attribute. The silver piece the canister screws into is plastic and I wouldn't consider that too heavy duty. The pulse option is great with the ice. This is a very capable blender.

  3. I use this blender every day and just love it. The smoothies I make come out perfect and no matter what I add to it the blender proves itself over and over. The blue light on the bottom looks classy on the counter. Easy to clean and the blender is well made and I am sure will hold up for years to come.

  1. This blender is a substitute for my 30+ year old Oster and which uses the same glass pitcher. My old one finally died, so now I have two picthers to work with, which is very handy because we make shakes and smoothies by day and blended rum or taquila drinks in the evening.

This blender seems to have a strong motor and a heavy base which stays in place while working. It's easier to clean than my old one. It crushes ice-maker ice well in my recipes. My only complaint is that it's just one speed (plus a pulse). While, I'd like to have at least two speeds, I'm learning to use the pulse more as a slower speed.

I think it's an excellent blender, nice looking with my stainless appliances and I'm happy with my purchase. I recommend it for your next blender. I believe it is well priced for its kind.

  2. We've used this blender nearly every day for some 3-4 years and it has held up well. Blends quite well and is good for smoothies, etc. Have not tried using it with ice. At this point, need to replace the gasket ($1.50), but other than that, it just keeps going....

  3. This is a great-looking, great-working, sturdy, but LOUD blender. I am satisfied with its work, and I love its great looks, but I am not exaggerating to say that I wear hearing protection when I use it. (You can get cheap, effective ear plugs at a drug store.) If you're okay with that, you will not be sorry to have this product.

  4. I purchased this blender when I finally had enough of my fancy KitchenAid Blender. The KitchenAid could not even blend fruit into a shake, and forget about crushing ice, it just wasn't happening.

I did a little Internet detective work, and decided upon the Oster 4093-8 with a 500-Watt motor (Note: The Oster 4093-800 has a weaker 375-Watt motor, the 4093-8 and the 4093-800 are NOT the same model).

The Oster is fantastic, making quick work over anything & everything I've thrown at it. It's loud enough to wake the dead, but that's a small price to pay for a tool that actually works.

    Two thumbs way up!

5 comments about Viking Hand Blender.

  1. I have had this immersion blender for almost a year now and i agree with the reviewer that says how powerful it is. I also use it mostly for soups and in seconds its smooth. I would also like to address the other reviewer who is afraid to use it on his pots. I sue this with my Le Creuset cast iron, and there is a never even a mark on the enamel. I highly recommend this product.

  2. I bought this because of the positive review here and a confidence in the Viking name. However, I did not even want to start using this because the bottom section that would be coming into contact with a pan, or whatever container being used, is so sharp, there's no way it wouldn't scratch them. I'm surprised that such a significant part of an immersion blender would be so overlooked by a company like Viking.

  3. I've used several other hand blenders from Braun and Kitchen-Aid, and while some of those models were very capable, this is in a completely different class. This isn't just an "upgrade," it's an entirely different device. The Kitchen-Aid and certain Braun models are fine for most tasks, but they are like kids' toys compared to the Viking. This hand blender has so much more power than those models, which makes it much quicker and more efficient at its tasks. I mostly use it for pureeing soups, a task that takes forever with those lesser brands, and never comes out perfectly smooth. My practice was always to strain the soups through a fine-mesh sieve after blending, because it was always necessary--there would be little fibrous chunks left over, and the puree would never be as silky as I wanted. But with the Viking that's completely unnecessary. For a big pot of butternut squash bisque, for instance, it takes about 15 seconds with the Viking to get the entire thing silky smooth, whereas with one of Braun's "professional" models, I'd have to blend for a minute, then wait for the unit to cool down, then blend more, then finally force the puree through a sieve. I should note that the Viking's manual also recommends only one minute of continuous use--the difference is that I can't imagine anything taking more than a minute with this thing.

This Viking model creates such a vortex in the pot that it ensures no chunks are left by cycling through all of the liquid very rapidly. For the same reason, the puree gets silky smooth in almost no time.

You know how there's a big difference between the power of a Kitchen-Aid stand mixer and a Kitchen-Aid hand mixer? Well, it's the same way between a really nice consumer blender and a Kitchen-Aid or Braun hand blender. With the Viking, there is no such difference. This is as powerful as any consumer-level blender I've used.

In addition, the construction feels extremely solid. It's heavy, and it's stainless steel, which also means the business end can go in the dishwasher, if that's your thing. But it's still ergonomically designed so that it feels great in your hand. My one complaint is that you have to hold the button as long as you want to keep it going. I wish there were a way to set it to stay on a particular speed setting.

  4. I've had only great experiences with the Viking Pro Han Blender. I use it several times a week. The dual speeds work fine, the motor is powerful enough to chop even very hard foods, and after many months, I've not had any problems. I've tried at least 5 other brands, and this one is a solid piece of equipment. Another reviewer had problems with his/her unit and customer service, but I've had only great performance from it (buy the optional chopping attachment to get the best use of it).

  5. I recently purchased the Viking Hand Immersion Blender with Chopper Attachment to replace my existing Kitchen Aid Immersion Blender. It was perfectly fine, I just thought I would "upgrade". I was sorely disappointed when I took it for a test run. First of all, it only has two speeds (which I knew going into it), unfortunately only 1 speed worked! On top of that it was very difficult to remove the attachments from the "stick" . I promptly returned the obviously defective product and anxiously awaited it's replacement. Alas, more disappointment...brand new (not refurbished) unit had the exact same problem - only 1 speed worked! On top of that the company that services Viking's countertop products (which is independent of viking) was miserable at customer service and the folks at Viking didn't really seem to care either. After that I called it quits, got my money refunded and bought the chopper and whisk attachments for my existing Kitchen Aid Hand Immersion Blender and I couldn't be happier. My KA quite simply rocks!

  1. Excerpt from my Epinions Review
    By: Digital Dude

Ok, the first thing you have to deal with is the fact that you just spent an inordinate amount of money on a countertop appliance. Anyway, after you get over that, things do get better. I opted for the 3.5hp MX1200 Extreme but not because of the power bump, but because I wanted the analog variable speed control. Aside from that; it's nearly the same as the MX 1000. As for the speed dial? It was a bit of a gamble since these units are not readily available where you can look, touch and feel, so my selection was based primarily on printed data and gut instinct. The dial provides very smooth and gradual increase or decrease of the blender that is graduated from 1 to 10 and ranging from 1500 to 2000 RPM. Likewise, it includes the large paddle On/Off/Pulse switches. Do I think the speed dial is actually worth the extra 165-bucks? Well, it does provide me with a better sense of control for certain blends, so most definitely!

Anyway, the MX1000 unit is plenty overkill for most home kitchen fanatics so don't overlook this more reasonably priced unit. Besides, if you think that 400-bucks is high for the MX1000; try the 1200~series and you will feel like you got off cheap! As such, do not expect any included fanfare like a recipe book or cute little accessories.

Based on comments regarding the slightly overwhelming appearance, I opted for the 48-ounce version since I did not need the higher volume, and it is 2-inch shorter so it actually fits under my kitchen cabinetry. As such, it tones down the countertop landscape while being easier on the eyes. BTW, if you want the 64-oz jar later on, you can order it as an accessory.

Noise: Well, it is not near as loud as my less expensive Cuisinart, though Waring does offer a sound dampening enclosure. Even with my old hundred-dollar blender, I used hearing protection so this is not anything new. Either way, it was a pleasant surprise since I expected a lot more noise.

Here are a few things I considered before purchasing.

    Design & Support:
Despite all of the hype; the proverbial kitchen blender is a fairly basic concept. It consists of a Jar, Propeller and Motor, all combined to create a vortex to evenly circulate the contents in the container for a desired result. Some have programmable features to govern speed while others are more straightforward.

    * Round or narrow jars appear to rely on a pulsing vertical vortex and blends smaller content items very well.
    * Square jars permit larger items to be inserted with less preparation.
    * Cloverleaf jars fall in between and rely on directionality to force the contents back into the propeller.
    * Performance, Ease of Use, and Product Support (spare parts, accessories, etc.) are all important aspects to consider.

    Customer Service:
If you can call a toll-free number and actually talk with a live person (in your language) and they actually know the product, then that's a big plus.

    Warranty:
The best warranty is the one you never have to use although if you do have an issue, then a 2-3 year parts/labor provision is reasonable.

    Advice:
Read the "customer reviews" on each blender that you're considering, paying particular attention to what people like and don't like'. Always read and follow the manufactures safety precautions and warnings. Keep in mind that raw power of the motor is only part of the equation to a good blender, and that features, style and durability will determine your overall satisfaction.

The Bottom Line: If you blend smoothies or any other stuff on a regular bases, or you're simply a quality geek, then you may love this blender as much I do.
    Regards,
    ~DD

  2. Having arrived back from a Costa Rica, I wanted to continue the enjoyment of making frozen drinks. This Waring blender is the best I've ever had, or seen. It is large, powerful and very well made.Yes it's noisy but not for long, and the results are worth every roar! This is the blender for those who are serious.

  3. I bought this Waring MX1000 because of all the good reviews it had here at Amazon. I thought I was getting the best. Boy was I disappointed. Everybody else seems to love it.

    Pros: Powerful.

Cons: Expensive, loud. It's a commercial model so don't expect any recipes whatsoever, or intructions or ideas on how best to use the machine. There's no warranty card so make sure you keep the receipt from the company you bought it from. The manual, if you can call it that, is a sparse two sheets of stapled copy paper. It's bulky. And it stops running entirely after two months of normal use. I did not abuse the machine, unless using it to crush ice is abuse.

I was ready to give it 3 stars until it stopped working. Motor death. It might be a lemon. People who are expert blenders and who know exactly what to do with a powerful blender they've never used before might be happy with this one. Just as long as they don't need a smidgeon of instructions.

For me, I'm supposed to get an RMA and a refund shortly. I think I'll go with Blend-tec or Vitamix now. In the meantime I'm alone and blenderless.

  4. Bulky, noisy and takes up lots of space - BUT it is the greatest drink mixer you'll ever buy. My wife is the queen of frosty drinks. With this blender the ingredients don't separate half-way through your drinking pleasure. Our old mixer, also touted as a professional blender, caused the ingedients to separate in the glass after about 3 minutes. Have not seen that happening after this blender get's through doing its job. Crushes ice without cringing and is esstially oblivious to anything thrown in, just blends everyting into a great pulp. Highly recommended for the serious frosty drinker.

  5. i love this blender. it blends anything you toss in with ease, and its really huge, so it makes enough for a whole family!

5 comments about Oster 4901-003 Blender Blade with Gasket.

  1. My blender was giving me fits. It was not responding to my foot stomping so it was relegated to the toss or donate pile. Then I saw this little gizmo on Amazon and thought to myself: "self, what about this?" Right out of the box, and after the first use, I realized that I had made a smart purchase--I no longer needed to replace my blender. Since Summer is here and it is an important time for blended drinks, this is a very good thing.

Your blender motor may be just fine. It may be that the existing blender blade has been stripped for over-use. This gizmo falls into the "sucha deal" column. And, yes, it does deserve 5 stars.

  2. Doesn't work wth the Osterizer Galaxie. If I had bought the bottom cap this product might have worked. Made in Mexico.

  3. This item was NOT as pictured, it is missing the metal washer on the top, and it rusted the first time I washed it. This is a poorly made piece of garbage that was not even worth the time to send it back.

  4. The Oster Blender Blade Assembly I received started to to show some corrosion /oxidization -right ater the first day- at he top of the axle where it was probably hammered together instead of pressing it together. That part of the blade assembly is where the food is being blended and obviously this oxidization shows that the part used is of inferior quality and may further interact with food that enhances oxidization and interact with taste. The old part which started to leak after 4 years of use had no corrosion at all. They must have used the right steel material not just some steel covered low grade iron. I hope the manufacturer gets this message and they will upgrade to a better metal.

  5. FWIW, I ordered this and it did come with the gasket/sealing ring.
