  1. By purchasing the replacement gasket I was able to avoid buying a new blender -- mine is 30 years old and still working well. Yay!

  1. This is really a good as it can't break like plasic and glas jar. This could be tooooo good if it would have an handle to hold the jar, but still I would recommend to buy this jar to everyone.

  1. DO NOT BUY! We got this as a wedding present last July. Six months ago after using it just a couple of times, I picked up the glass jar and suddenly, it's shattering on the floor. Glass and blood everywhere. Up until today, I had always assumed I hit it against something. I spent over $75 on new parts. This morning, I went to make my usual smoothie and it wouldn't start. The motor was making horrible noises and then there was smoke and my kitchen smelled like smoke for hours. I called Cuisinart who said to bring it in the store where it was purchased. The store was kind enough to replace it but not before being dumbfounded the Cuisinart sent me into the store because it had been purchased well over a year ago (the 3-year warranty is the manufacturer's). The manager of the store told me this model has been discontinued for various reasons including the plastic handle tends to break off the glass jar and shatter. Good to know that it wasn't my fault. I bought the new 600 model WITH A GLASS HANDLE.

  2. I spent the bread to buy the best blender Cuisinart makes, the most powerful motor, etc and etc. It appears scientifically designed to be unable to pour anything without spilling it everywhere, running all down the side of the glass -- I can't imagine what they were thinking when they designed this. And: it leaks when you pour it, and it leaks down into the housing, so that when you pour again, there is no way to not dump stuff on your counter top. Smooth move, Cuisinart! Way to design! I'm going to dump it and get something else, and I can promise you that it isn't going to be made by Cuisinart. I make smoothies every day, and the one good thing about the blender is that it does have the power and speed to finely grind anything you throw in it; probably you could toss in a handful of bolts and get metal shavings. So it does do that well. But that's all it does well. Don't buy this or anything else from these people, this company had a good name but it doesn't any longer. Junk.

  3. We've been using this product for about a year now and we love it. Very powerful and a little noisy but we are very happy we upgraded from an Ultimate Chopper blender. We recommend this product.

  4. Bought this one to replace another Cuisnart blender that broke previously (after replacing the blade which became loose from the notches). This one was broken even before we put food in it. Much like the previous one we had, the notches on the other side of the blade that line up with the notches on the base, do not fit together.

Our last model finally ground out the notches out of the base which left metal and plastic dust around the blender -less than a year old. THis current one we plugged in and turned on and it didn't even last one try. Blade attachment was already separated from plastic notches, even before trying with food. On to a new brand now.

  5. After having 2 Hamilton Beach blenders die after 300 smoothies, I tried the Cuisinart Smart Power. Having had it for 3 days, and 5 smoothies, I can't comment on the durability. But I have a few things to say about usability. First, the squat 50 oz jar does not mix as well as the taller Hamilton Beach jars. Second, the plastic handle is strapped to the glass jar, so drips from pouring the contents get under the straps where they can't be cleaned. Fortunately, these do not touch the contents inside. Third, the cap on the lid is annoying. It is loose and does not fit snugly. In fact today, as I lifted the lid to add more ice, the cap fell into the wide jar where I didn't realize what the strange sound was until too late. The blender had no problem chopping the plastic cap into tiny bits - sort of a mini "Will it Blend" episode. (I was able to replace the cap with a better, more snug fitting cap from one of the dead Hamilton Beach blenders.)

The controls are minimal, giving 2 speeds with pulse - this is all I need for smoothies. The buttons are widely spaced and easy to clean so far. The keyboard-like electronic action is much easier to use than typical mechanical buttons. The Hi and Lo buttons either toggle on/off, or are push on release off when the pulse mode is set. There is a count up timer, but I always just look at the way the contents swirl to tell when it is done.

  1. I knew I wouldn't use this much so I chose to buy a cheaper model. The very first time I used it the unit overheated and the motor just quit. I tried turning it off for awhile to see if letting it cool down would remedy the problem. An hour later it wouldn't even turn on. I pitched it in the trash! I wish I hadn't wasted my money!!! Total disappointment!!

  2. I bought this item primarily for mixing powdered protein, juice, and fruit for a diet I was on. I wanted something quick and easy as well as something portable that I might be able to use at home and work. It has served me well for this purpose. I have also used it for mixing pancake and cornbread mixes with milk. You can also use it for "juicing" fruit and vegetable concoctions as long as you cut the fruit/vegs into smaller chunks. It's very easy cleaning and storing. Downsides: have to hold power button throughout blending process and per instructions, you shouldn't blend for more than one minute at a time. Overall, a nice product for the price.

  3. I love this little kitchen helper. It will puree your lentil stews, makes great guacamole. I had used ones priced three times higher and yet this is my favorite for a fraction of the cost.
    I highly recommend it.

  4. This is a good value. I use the blender to make my morning protein shake. It's simple to use and easy to clean. Would make a good gift, too.

  5. Good points:

    1. It's really, really cheap.

    2. This blender worked well while it worked and was easy to clean.

    Bad points:

    1. You have to hold down the speed button for as long as you want to run the blender. This gave me cramps in my hand.

    2. Loud

    3. Has a moderate tendency to splash (I've had better, I've had worse).

    4. Fell apart after 6 months; the switch broke and the handle began to split. Due to the breakage I suffered a light electric shock from touching the sauce that the appliance was immersed in.

My conclusion? Spend twice as much for a good hand blender, which will last longer and save you money in the long run.

  1. I love this blender. I don't have to shake it, hit it, or any of the things I've had to do with previous blenders in order to get a large amount of ice and/or frozen fruit blended properly. I personally know someone who had this blender's motor stop running after a few uses- but mine works great. I make daquiris, smoothies, milk shakes, slushes, or just shaved ice with ease.

  2. Like others, I was skeptical after reading reviews here but decided to give it a try. I have used this blender for 5 months now at my Ice Cream store to make smoothies and have been happy with it since day one. The plastic container is perfect for commercial use as it is very durable and is actually the reason I went for the 1000w over the highly rated 750w model with the glass container. I add all ingredients to the blender and press the smoothie button. This blender has torque sensors on the motor and will adjust the speed and time based on consistency to provide a perfect smoothie every time. It just shuts off when done, about 1 minute. YES, it will start and stop on it's own to chop, mix, and blend as stated in the manual. If you are using ice instead of frozen yogurt just start with the ice button and it will chop your ice into a fine powder. This blender is heavy duty and I highly recommend it.

  3. HI. I just got the Breville Hemisphere. First thing I noticed was that it stops and starts while I make a smoothie. It's not in 'pulse' mode. I tried crushing ice and it did this stop/start thing. I was hoping that the ice would turn into snow cone ice, but it was still chunky. I got the Breville because it was not as expensive as the VitaMix. Maybe I should spend the extra money. Also, I got it at Macy's who sold it for $299 and claimed that it was on sale (original price $399). Everywhere I checked online the price was $299. Is Macy's just trying to pull the wool over my eyes by making me believe that I'm saving $100. Not happy.

  4. After reading the previous reviews, I was a bit leery of buying this blender. I wanted the best, period. First, this is in my opinion the best looking and I leave it on my counter top, replacing a Kitchen Aid which I gave to my sister.

The first thing I did was to fill the jug with ice to the top. I pushed the ice button and within a few minutes, I had finely grated snow with no large chunks at all. It would have been a perfect snow cone. I went on to put in Strawberries, soft tofu, Yogurt, Soy vanilla ice cream, honey and a little non fat milk on top of the shaved ice. It made one of the best smoothies I have ever had. I have had numerous complements from my wife and neighbors on the smoothies this produces.

I also put in a whole large sweet onion quartered and three cups of large skinned tomatoes, some mushrooms, corn and whole garlic cloves, along with some essential seasoning and made a perfect tomato soup. The consistency was creamy and consistently smooth throughout. No chunks of any of the ingredients, including the corn kernels or garlic cloves. It was wonderful.

I have not had this very long. About two weeks now, but it has gotten a lot of use in that time. I can not speak to the long term reliability of the product, but I have had other Breville products and they are consistently top drawer. The one thing I do think that Breville might have misjudged is that the jar is polycarbonate, a fancy word for plastic. It does seem to be a very sturdy jar and perhaps, there is a certain logic to it. When I transport a full jug of soup from the blender to a bowl or what ever, the weight is quite manageable. Not really an issue for me, but I could see it for others, especially elderly or those with physical limitations. The fit of the blade to the base and jar is clean and the design seems to be very well thought out. There is a plastic wrench supplied in the event the blade base is stuck on the jar, but I have not needed it yet for cleaning and there have been no leaks even after storing liquids in the jar for a period with just hand tightening.

It is only a two speed but in doing some research it seems that most multi button blenders have a low speed and 12 high speeds which are the same. This is done for the button loving public who think more is better. The 1000 watts is not really a dependable measure of the power of the motor since it really only tells you the power consumption of the motor and not the output. It seems to have more than enough power for the toughest jobs however and is heavy enough not to move if I do walk away from it to get an ingredient to place in the top opening while it is running.

Breville seems to have come up with a nice design of the blades and bottom of the container since it moves the material from the top to the bottom and vice versa for even cutting quite well on it's own and the hole in the top makes it easy to insert new ingredients with the motor running. I will say that this blender does everything I ask of it and better than my high end Kitchen Aid Blender which left small chunks of things like ice and garlic or corn kernels, etc.

If I have a problem with the motor breaking down as the others had, ( which based on my other Breville appliances, I doubt will be a problem), I will come back and comment on it, but for now, this is the nicest blender I have ever owned and I highly recommend it. In my opinion well worth the extra money.

  5. I had the exact same problem as other reviewer. After only a few times of blending, the motor completely stopped. Resetting according to the manual did not restore functionality. I called Breville Custoemr Service and they said this had never happened with this unit. I returned and purchased a replacement and experienced the exact same problem. The motor failed after a few uses. I did not try to blend anything unusual, nor did I put the blender through any heavy tasks. I tried to reach Breville through their customer service email contact and never got the courtesy of an automated or manual reply. Very disappointing.

5 comments about Waring HPB300 MegaMix Commercial Blender, Brushed Steel.

  1. The Mega Mix was impossible to find in retail stores and it is the most powerful for heavy fruit smoothies and such. I wish it had a retractable cord to take up less counter space; also the base feet are never quite level causing it to teeter a litte. Despite those things, if you want the best blender for power and one you'll probably never throw out, this is it.

  2. I have had this blender around 3 years. My wife and I use it primarily for soups, smoothies, and crushing ice. It is used at least once per week and we consider it a necessary part of the kitchen. It was my 4th blender and the first one I was happy with. The first three broke down during crushing ice. I had seen several smoothie shops were using this model or the very similar Waring "Margarita Madness?" model, which was available before they released this model to the home market.

It is everything you would expect in a commercial/home crossover model. This device is LOUD. You can not carry on a conversation when blending, however, it is fast. It will produce an ice based smoothie that is smooth with no ice chunks quickly, which is where most blenders fail. It is robustly constructed with a SS housing.

Several people have added reviews complaining about the container being plastic, too fragile, or poor quality. It should be plastic or metal and not glass. Commercial blenders almost never use glass because it is too heavy and fragile. I do not miss glass at all. It is not a cheap plastic. It looks like a heavy polycarbonate and it holds up well to abuse including dropping and banging it into things. The replacement is $50 so it is a little pricey.

After about 2 years the first container started to leak around the seal in the base and I replaced it. Previously my wife washed it in the dishwasher but now we just put some water in the container and a drop of dishwashing liquid and "blend" for 30 seconds until clean, and then rinse it out.

Because of the shape of the container, it blends liquids very well but if the liquid to ice ratio falls too low it has a tendency to stop blending and the blades just spin in the bottom. This is a problem with blenders in general but I find it is slightly aggravated by the design here. Starting with the liquids and adding ice from the top until the desired consistency is reached usually works around this issue.

If you routinely have tasks that require a blender then you want to use one that does the job. Way too many blenders are wedding presents that sit on a shelf so I do not think performance is always much of an issue. I would recommend this blender.

Waring now makes a 3Hp model also which is probably effective and I like the VitaMix device also. Those are both significantly more expensive than this model.

  3. I got this blender to crush ice, and it does that easily. It is good looking and very high powered, but it is also very noisy, and unpleasant to use. When I turn it on, the lights dim, and even with only water in the carafe it is extremely loud. The motor also emits an unpleasant odor with even the lightest use. Overall the blender is sturdy and powerful, it's just no fun to use. I don't feel comfortable using it in the morning for fear of waking up everyone in the building.

I like the plastic carafe, since it seems pretty indestructible, I've dropped it on the ground and into the porcelain sink with no visible damage to it.

  4. My blender is about 20 years old so it is a little different from the ones in the pictures. The only major difference is the new ones have a better connection system between the motor and the blade. Mine was sold as a commercial bar blender and uses the old style carafe

The real reason I am writing this is one reviewer said their carafe was leaking. I solved that problem years ago by buying a SS carafe made for use in Labs. I bought mine from a medical supply vender. You can also find them on eBay.

I use my blender every day. It's strong points are it's very durable. It's weak point is crushing ice. To keep the blade from cavitating you have to add to much liquid. This is a function of the shape of the carafe. The round glass one made for bars, does not have this problem but, it takes longer to mix proten shakes.

I give 5 stars aveage. That is 6 stars for durability and 4 starts for function.

  5. The lid on this product doesn't fit the pitcher. I thought it was b/c the product was new and it had to be broken in but I've been using it and it's still too tight - I have to struggle to put the lid on. No other issues with the product but it's a bit annoying to struggle to palce the lid on everytime I try to use it.

5 comments about Back-to-Basics Smoothie Elite Maker.

  1. Bought this as a gift to my spouse. It does not consistently blend all ingredients. I have often still had large chunks of frozen fruit in my smoothies, even after blending over and over. When trying to work the spout, the handle broke off. This appliance is not worth your money.

  2. This unit does a fantastic job, and the price is unbeatable. I highly recommend you follow the directions and add the ice & frozen ingredients last. I didn't, and I think that caused the previous unit to wear out. This unit works great, and the spout is very helpful.

  3. This is much better than a regular blender for making smoothies. It works really well, I have used it a lot.

  4. This was a gift and Its decorated my bar for occasional blended drinks. The operation is loud but its swift and powerful. The spigot is a nice feature, for those that reported it clogging, heres a tip: It's not obvious but the blade should be running to create pressure during a pour. Drink consistency is excellent and it will quickly liquify anything that goes in a drink. Cleanup is good... for a quick cleanup just add soap and hot water. For more thorough, the pitcher comes apart. Now for the bad news, this product has a critical design flaw: the plastic paddles beneath the pitcher inevitably deteriorate and after being stripped by the motor, the blender is useless. Parts are not commonly available.

  5. The Back-to-Basics Smoothie Elite Maker makes great smoothies as well as frozen drinks. However, after the second use, we noticed it was difficult to align the pitcher and base properly. Since the pitcher didn't fit securely in the base it caused the rotors to burn resulting in damage to the rotors.

5 comments about Waring Professional Kitchen Blender.

  1. This blender has a design flaw (or poor manufacturing tolerances). The removable blade component can wobble around inside the jar, allowing the blades to hit the inside of the jar.

I received (and returned) two of these blenders from Amazon. In each case the blade hit the inside of the jar, causing the motor to strain, the blade to bend and carve a crevice into the jar.

This defect likely explains the motor problems noted in the other reviews.

  2. Fantastic for its price and great for home use.

    Use.....Works Great
I've had it for about a year now. I make my morning smoothie with it using big chunks of ice, frozen fruit, juice, fresh fruit, etc. They turn out very smooth. I also made a few blended ice teas, lattes, frap type drinks. With these I was very impressed how fine it blends up the ice. Soups and dressings are no problem for this blender.

    Controls.....Great
Nice and simple!!! This blender has simple toggle switch with "off", "low", and "high", which makes for less stuff to break later Very nice not to waste money on 12 different settings and some digital display. I mean what is the real difference between puree and liquefy?

Construction....mostly good but a little bit of bad..
Nice heavy motor in base. Glass carafe is very nice. It has kind of a clover shape. This is really nice because in round carafe the contents end up going in a circle and not really blending.
The blade holder and the bottom of carafe that holds the blade piece in place are all made of plastic. These two pieces worry me. They are hard plastic but, they still feel like they could break easily. There is another annoying thing about these parts. The plastic base piece that holds the blade in place does not hold the blade solid. So the blade does vibrate up and down just a little bit. The blender still works great, but does make a rattling sound.
The blade is great. The blade has four different little spokes. It does a great job of getting the stuff around the bottom of the carafe. Nothing gets trapped down there and misses out on getting blended. The spokes also help move stuff from top to bottom.

What it is not, know what you are getting in to..
The smoothie and mixed drink recipes all say to use crushed ice or crush up the ice before you put it in the blender. If you use rock hard frozen fruit and big chunks of ice in this blender it will break quickly. Blenders range from like $500 to $20. Don't expect this blender to perform like a $500 vita-mix or blendtec. If this want a blender for heavy business use, to stand up to stuff that is rock hard, or used several times a day then go for a higher price range of blender.

This is a GREAT blender for $70. If you want to spend around $70 then get this blender.

  3. I was disappointed when this mostly plastic appliance arrived. I was trying to replace a Kitchen Aid blender, that leaks all over the place.
There was something loose rolling around inside the base, so I decided that was an ominous sign of future problems, so I sent it back.
I don't understand why there are so many different models of this blender. My advice is to buy the original Waring, not the "PRO", or Classic. In my mind the "Classic" was never "plastic".

  4. My mother had a Waring Blender for a long time...and it worked well until just recently. So when it came to replace the old blender I decided to purchase another as close to the old blender as possible...and it makes the best smoothies ever. ***Secret to an awesome smoothie is to freeze all the fruit...especially the bananas***

  5. I bought this as a wedding gift for a friend, during its first use, the motor broke. I will admit it was being pushed to the limit and I was not surprised that it couldn't handle the challenge. After returning all necessary information, Waring replaced the unit within a week. Great company to do business with!

5 comments about Cuisinart Duet Combination Food Processor/Blender.

  1. I bought a reconditioned version of this blender from another online site. It turned out I didn't need to use the blender for most of the summer and the warranty period expired on the reconditioned product. Of course right after that, I had to use the blender. It worked ok for a bit but soon pretty much became worthless. When it did work, it did a poor job of mixing the stuff I put into the blender and the food processor wasn't all that great either. Avoid Cuisinart.

  2. I have used many food processors before, I do not use them harshly, I was even able to use my very cheap first mini processor for 3 years. Yet, this is by far the worst I had.

Pros: 1.Very powerful machine that this strength cause trouble for you.
    2. Being able to use a 2-in-1 machine
    3. Several buttons for different tasks

Cons: 1. The machine parts, although supposedly strong and appropriate for dishwasher, is not safe to put in at all. The food processor's clear plastic bowl melted in the first wash and have taken an oval shape in the dishwasher, and I do not even use heated dry. I had to squeeze it to fit the lid on it for each time I use it.

    2. Extremely loud. My son can never stay asleep upstairs once I start it, pretty similar to a strong vacuum cleaner in noise level.

    3. Machine is so powerful, so when you actually process food, which it is supposed to do well, you have to hold on the machine very tight with both hands, otherwise, the machine can fly (I mean literally) especially if you are processing hard food such as dry bread, onions, or nuts, or trying to make dips.

    4. That typical burning smell that all cuisinart processors that I used have. It begins after 5-6 seconds you start.

Just beware and if possible, choose another one.

  3. Cuisinart BFP-703 SmartPower Duet Blender/Food Processor, White

A fine idea, Poor execution! Mine lasted three months. It failed while under warranty. I called Cuisinart, there solution? I should pack it, pay to ship it, and include $10.00 for them to mail it back, after they fixed it. And they offered no warrenty about the repair.

No "we are sorry that our $80.00 item is in fact an expensive paper weight designed to break." Instead, they feel that I should pay more than 20% of the original cost to get them to maybe fix it right. Stay away from this product and this company.

  4. We've had it for a little while now. We've made smoothies and used the cuisinart blades to chop veggies. The blades are super sharp so be careful! The time savings by using this unit versus chopping by hand can be somewhat diminished because you then have to spend time cleaning the unit. However, when doing large quantities of chopping, it's very useful. When using the product as a blender, it seems to perform just as well as any other blender we've owned. We still experienced the smell of the motor as we were trying to get all those chunks of frozen fruit blended. It's definitely not a powerhouse such as the type they have a Jamba Juice but it will work fine for our occasional smoothie making times.

All in all, it's a decent product for the price paid.

  5. Again RED to match my decor, perfect. But the functions of this blender/processor are unlimited. I love it.
