5 comments about SiliconeZone Large Pastry/Baking Mat.

  1. I am very pleased with my silicone mat. I purchased it mainly for kneading bread dough - the dough hardly sticks to it at all, so I'm able to use less flour for a more tender bread. It washes off easily, too. I don't have any problem with it not staying in place on my counter while kneading dough, and also don't think it is flimsy. Thin, yes, but not flimsy. It is well made and durable.

  2. This mat is wonderful for kneading bread! Large enough, non stick and non skid on the counter. Easy to clean and easy to store. I hope it lasts forever!

  3. This product stays in place while in use, which is the good part. Dough still sticks to it, but the worst part is clean up. It's impossible to clean in the sink and impossible to dry. Towel fibers stick to the surface and clothing fibers and hair and other things you would not expect. Perhaps the best method is to wipe it down with a wet cloth while still on the counter top and leave it there to air dry.

  4. This item is easy to use and easy to clean. I am enjoying it very much. I only wish I had bought one sooner!

  5. Got tired of fighting the dough/pastry on the counter or the kitchen table; got tired of trying to cover the table with butcher paper that would never stay in place. Made the purchase on this item and have used it a lot. Love it! works great, stays in place, helps with sizing your roll-out and clean-up is easy. It rolls up and takes up little room on a shelf or in a drawer. Every cook should have one. And it's tough!

5 comments about Pyrex Prepware Sculptured 6-Piece Serving Bowl Set, Clear with Blue Lids.

  1. Super!! Sturdy, do anything and beautiful! We've only had them a few weeks and already have found countless uses for them. So practical and wonderful . . highly recommend!!

  2. This set of 3 covered Pyrex bowls is great. You can mix a cake, store leftovers, or mix a salad to take to a party. These bowls look good enough to use for any occasion and come with their own cover.
I've had my set for about eight years and they still look great. This set I bought, for my daughter and she loves them. Pyrex Serveware Sculptured 6-Piece Bowl Set with Lids

  3. The set arrived on time. The small bowl's lid was damaged in the packaging and unable to use it. The other bowls and lids were in good condition.

  4. I actually got the bigger set which was a fantastic bargain at $19.99 with free shipping and no tax. And no toxins from plastic AND Made in the USA. What a feel-good purchase it was! Now as stated in some reviews, the plastic lids can be hard to get on but if you run them under hot water first.....they'll snap right on with no problem.

  5. I won't repeat all the raves others have written here -- I agree with them all. I'll just add that it is very safe to store and cook foods in GLASS containers whereas it's not in plastic containers. From now on, I will keep buying these Pyrex containers -- adding to my collection every month or so as my budget permits. They're so beautiful, and incredibly handy.

I just bought a convection oven too, and these fit perfectly in that oven! (Which is an issue with many baking pans.)

I also bought two bowls as a gift for my daughter -- it's a gift I feel proud to send because the bowls are beautiful as well as practical.

5 comments about Rachael Ray Garbage Bowl, Granite.

  1. It is exactly as described. It's deep enough to toss garbage into when you are prepping for a meal and it would also be a great salad bowl or popcorn bowl.

  2. I bought this for my sister-in-law and she just loves it! She uses it every time she cooks and told me it was very handy. She loves the color!

  3. Okay, I know it falls under the category of a bunch of hype and any old bowl would do for the same purpose. HOWEVER...I really LIKE this bowl! I started using it right away for garbage while prepping meals. It's lightweight, rather pretty in a weird way, sits on my small kitchen counter without being in the way, and (don't laugh) is a perfect shape for garbage. AND...just in case you don't want to use it for garbage...it's just a great bowl for anything else! I bought it in the granite color and, well, I like it!

  4. I ordered two of these Rachael Ray garbage bowls and am very happy with them. They are simular to some very old "Texas Ware' bowls that I have that belonged to my Mother.

  5. I didn't realize how much I would actually like this simple little product. Instead of running back and forth from the trash can, everything gets put into the garbage bowl with only 1 trip to the trash can at the end. The shape is perfect, deep yet now so oversized. I keep it on my breadboard that sits on my counter. Love it.

5 comments about KitchenAid K45SBWH Bowl for Pivot Head Stand Mixer.

  1. My wife loves this product because of its handle. I bought the mixer unit that came with a bowl but no handle.

  2. I LOVE my KitchenAid mixer and use it so much that one bowl was not practical. I purchased a second bowl and use them all the time. The handle on it makes it easier to pour whatever I have concocted into the appropriate vessel.

  3. I don't know what I did before I had this second bowl for my Kitchen Aid mixer. Now I remember: I would waste lots of time and energy using a glass bowl to dump contents into while I used the Kitchen Aid bowl for another ingredient. Example: seperated eggs. When I make Tiramisu or Tres Leches I need to whip the egg whites and then use the yolks separately. With two bowls it is a snap!

Spend the money and get the extra bowl. Like all appliances (and dinnerware companies) they get you on the accessories - that's where the money is made. But it is a worthwhile investment.

  4. This was exactly what I was looking for, an extra mixing bowl with handle for our classic Kitchen-aide mixer. It's a well made stainless bowl that should last a long time. I wasn't sure when I ordered this if it would be the right bowl to fit our mixer. Pivot head mixer threw me off as that is not mentioned when you look at the different mixers. But it does screw into the base of our classic mixer.

  5. I bought the KitchenAid K45SBWH Bowl with handle for my wife for Christmas. Her first response...why would anyone want this without a handle? She loved it and I love what she mixes up in it!!

5 comments about Demarle Silpat 11-3/4-by-8-1/4-Inch Nonstick Silicone Baking Mat.

  1. These mats are great! I've ordered more already. I don't know how they work, but absolutely nothing sticks to them. So, no more oiling or spraying the cooking sheets. Consequently, no more scrubbing burnt grease off the sheets. I have baked cookies, rolls, chicken, french fries. The texture of the baked items is still good and the clean-up is considerably easier! I'm sold!

  2. Well, I thought this size would fit my toaster oven, but no such luck. It's too big for that, and too small for the cookie sheet. It's nice, if only I could use it.

  3. Demarle Silpat 11-3/4-by-8-1/4-Inch Nonstick Silicone Baking Mat It's wonderful - cookies don't stick - no need to use any spray or shortening - perfect.

  4. Since I received the Silpat I have baked cookies, pizza, french bread and more on it. Cleanup is a breeze, items brown evenly and don't stick. If you haven't tried it, get one. You'll be glad you did. I have just the large size and will buy a small one as well. (I had figured I could just cut the large one down to size, but then learned that you're not supposed to cut these things!!)

  5. These things make cleanup after making cookies so much easier! And removing cookies from the pan is a snap. No more prying with a pancake flipper trying to remove stuck cookies. Just lift up the pad and peel away the cookies. I only bought 1 of this size and it's a little small for our pans but the wife uses it for 1/2 batches and such. Very good product!

5 comments about Wilton 53 Piece Supreme Cake Decorating Set.

  1. I got this for my wife who used to be a baker at Minglewood cafe in Ely, MN - she slept above the cafe when she worked there. Before that and after college when she first moved to Ely, she slept in the back of her Honda Accord until she found the cafe. Her parents still don't know about this. She didn't like the cake decorating set - but rather than tell me straight out when return was an option, she tried to be accomodating of my feelings. Stating, "Yeah, it looks good." And, "...it should be ok." Come 6 months and a few fights later, it has been made obvious to me that this set is subpar. I'm basing this on her stating, "You don't know anything, I mean seriously, look at that stupid cake decorating kit you got me that is now wasting prime cabinet space - it stinks." Would I buy it again, probably not, well, maybe for my mother-in-law.

  2. I compared this set with others at places like Michael's and Sur la Table. It's the best deal I found, with more tips, colors, etc, for the best price.

  3. I love this set- it's perfect for beginners who wants to start decorating their kids cakes, etc. I got it real cheap as well- under $20.00 with no shipping charges since I bought more items with the "save shipping charges" on them. Wilton makes great products and I'm glad I got my beginner's set from them through Amazon. Thanks Nerry

  4. Great beginners set. It includes everything you need to start decorating cakes on your own. The book is very helpful and includes extra bags which are nice. A little hard to use the coloring, but can get used to it. This same kind of set will set you back more than $50 if purchased from a cake store or crafts store.

  5. This is a great product, but the plastic disposable bags stretch and tear. It's a little difficult to keep a constant pressure on the plastic bags.

5 comments about Typhoon Professional Cook's Torch.

  1. For some time we have avoided dishes that were best if something needed to be caramelized, like creme brule, although we love them.
As it got more expensive to go out and we needed to trade off a rich desert with a very meager meal to watch the waistline, little treasures done at home got even more precious.
We approached the "torch" with caution - we drop things, spill things, and have set a few kitchens on fire. We read the instructions carefully and had firefighting apparatus handy - but, everything went fine! Get one! Fear not! Caramelized creme brule at home is good, cheap, and safe!

  2. Larger than expected. Very powerful torch. Easy to refill. Works well. Not made for lighting candles.

  3. I've never had any problem with this item. In the year I've had it, it has never overheated or melted. Works top-notch. And you won't find a better price.

  4. Oh, my! I haven't seen anyone who bought the other (color) Typhoons have the melting problem described by the previous reviewer. I hope it's rare. This is my opinion. I'll let you know if it changes!
My husband's favorite is creme brulee so I make it a lot. I have had 2 other torches & have been frustrated (another story). I decided to try a different style. I am VERY happy with this torch. It is very easy to fill & use. There is great control (flame strength) and the best part for me is I can hold it at any angle and it does not fluctuate in flame control or go out altogether when I hold it down. Dont' waste your money on those wands or cheapos out there. This feels good in control & weight. It has a "safety switch" too. Hard for kids to move it. A+

  5. UPDATE: This torch has become unusable and dangerous. It should be recalled.
I purchased this torch in Feb. 2007. For the first few months it was working well. I gave the product 4 stars in my review because it worked so well. HOWEVER, the plastic can and does melt. It could possibly get to the point where the butane feed system is compromised and that could be seriously dangerous - fire and/or explosion hazard. I stopped using the torch before it reached that point.
    I am very disappointed.
This torch is a good idea and if the construction were better (much better) it would be a great chef's torch.
Unfortunately, this reviewing system will not allow me to change my star-rating of the product. I would have to drop it to zero stars because of the potential danger.

5 comments about Kuhn Rikon La Patisserie Cookie Press and Decorating Set.

  1. I actually used this for the first time last night and was very disappointed. The barrel is very small, as were the cookies. I make a spritz cookie and then ice 2 together with chocolate icing like a sandwich and even the largest disc didn't make the cookies big enough. I ended up getting a disc from an old press, but that didn't work all that great, either!! I bought my daughter one and I am thinking of returning it.

  2. very good quality item that compares with products over twice in price.
    I would recommend highly.

  3. I have tried a few cookie presses and am very glad to say this one actually works with very little frustration!! I have had to return or just trash some presses and was beginning to think it was just me! I highly recommend this one!!! Also easy to clean.

  4. This was my first time to buy a cookie press and I think I bought the best one! It is very easy to use and clean. Also the recipe is great!Highly recommended!

  5. It is quite sturdy, and a great improvement over the flimsy aluminum one our parents had.
