  1. this product really sucked for me and thats all I got to say it cost way more than it was worth . Postage was ridiculous and the box was huge for such a small item. BIG RIP OFF

  2. The bag is narrow and difficult to fill. You invariably end up with a mess which gets even more messy because the bag is made from a very slippery plastic. I had no luck using this bag, even though I gave it two chances.

5 comments about Calculated Industries KitchenCalc 8300 Recipe Calculator with Digital Timer.

  1. when i recieved the calc. it didnt work. the batteries werent dead either. biggest waste of $25~! i tried everything to make it work but it didnt even register zero or turn on.

  2. THE KITCHEN CALC 8300 CALCULATOR WITH DIGITAL TIMER IS A VERY HANDY TOOL FOR ANY KITCHEN. EVERYONE NEEDS A BASIC CALCULATOR AT SOME TIME - THIS FITS THE BILL. TO HAVE A CONVERSION TOOL HANDY IS ...WELL HANDY.
TO USE IT TO CONVERT A RECIPE IS TIME CONSUMING, BUT CAN BE DONE. IF YOU HAVE A RECIPE PROGRAM ON YOUR COMPUTER, MOST WILL DO THE SAME THING MUCH FASTER AND EASIER.

OVERALL, I AM GLAD I PURCHASED 5 OF THEM. THEY MADE GREAT CHRISTMAS GIFTS FOR THE COOKS IN MY FAMILY

    DWR

  3. But...the instructions are difficult to follow and for a timer it's counter intuitive. I also had mine for 24 hours and the little plastic tabs that hold the cover on broke off leaving me with what looks like a broken calculator. No one from the company returned my emails, so I guess it goes in the drawer with the junk.

  4. I am a pastry chef in SF. I came across this calculator while in culinary school a few years back. One of the best darn tools I use. Every kitchen should have a calculator, but why not one that will also help with conversions? Get this as a gift for anyone you know who loves to cook.

  5. I publish Epicurus.com, one of the leading food and travel sites with more than 10,000 recipes. In an average week, I go through more than 200 hundred recipes developing them for our site or our clients. As a restaurant consultant, I scale recipes for clients every day. This calculator has made my life simpler and given me less angst over miscalculated formulae. The device is as simple to use as a normal calculator, but so much better.

No home cook... indeed no professional chef, should be without one of these devices. I've come to depend on it for accuracy, speed and efficiency.

They're far more accurate than the recipe software I've used, easier to work with and far more efficient as I can take this right to the kitchen workstation with me. It fits in my pocket and works like a dream.

An absolute must if you get recipes from cookbooks. Simply wonderful.

  1. Most microwave bowls are not pretty enough to use at the table. This one is pretty and useful. What else do you want! It goes from microwave,to table to refrigerator.

  2. It's beautiful for putting right on the dinner table and great for salads and for mixing! I love that it has a lid too.

5 comments about Oxo Good Grips Rolling Pin.

  1. i have severe arthritis and using a rolling pin isn't easy. decided to give this a try not only because the description said it would protect my nuckles, but figured the ball bearings would be helpful. both features are grand, however there are a couple other things that make this "arthritis friendly". first is the weight ~ it takes very little effort to get the perfect round pie crust. secondly, the handles are a good size which makes it easy to hold, even if your fingers can no longer "make a fist". if you need a little extra help due to arthritis, this is a great find!

  2. Weighted handles so that your knuckles never scrape the the counter - this beauty is the best that I've seen. Dishwasher safe (which makes it better than a wooden pin and worth the extra bucks), hefty and thoughtfully designed.

  3. I bought one for a friend and my husband who likes to make bread from scratch. He loved it. He said it was better than the one he made himself.

  4. When we needed a new rolling pin, we looked at all diffrent kinds - wood, marble, non-stick, etc.,. We bought this one, and I've been very pleased. It's long, heavy, non-stick, and neat handles. I do have to flour it when I'm making pie-crusts. because they stick a little. Overall, it's a great rolling pin.

  5. This is a good, solid rolling pin. Everyone loves a heavy rolling pin, but I find this one to be TOO smooth. Dough sticks to it like crazy, and you'd be better served by getting a simple (and cheaper!) wooden rolling pin that lets you spend more time rolling out dough and things instead of trying to peel off the huge pieces that are sticking to it.

5 comments about Amco 6-Quart Stainless-Steel Mixing Bowl.

  1. I have a set of 3 different size Amco mixing bowls and use all of them frequently. This is the largest one I have and works great for mixing up meatloafs, doughs, large batches of cookies, etc. All the Amco bowls are very solid, commercial grade and stainless steel, with a nice edge for gripping and a large flat surface on the bottom so they don't move around much when mixing in them. They really hold up well over time (I've had mine for 5 years now) and go through the dishwasher if need be without a problem.

  2. This product was recommended to me on a site about toilet training your cat. The bowl works very well for this purpose, but I recommend taping the bowl to the toilet so it doesn't slide around. The excellent construction of the bowl makes a resounding clang if the bowl falls into the toilet and this is not helpful when encouraging your cat to try something new.

I'm assuming that after I run the bowl through the dishwasher a few thousand times it will be an excellent mixing bowl. Until then, it is a very sturdy and highly recommended tool for cat training.

  3. This bowl is so useful in the kitchen. If only it could go in the microwave it would be the only bowl I would ever need. I use it frequently for melting chocolate for brownies over a saucepan of simmering water. It is the perfect size for mixing up a batch of cookies or biscuits. The stainless steel is easy to clean and beautiful. The rim is wider on these bowls than on other brands of stainless bowls I have had in the past and makes the bowl easier to handle. You may find less expensive bowls at the big discount retailers, but you will not find the quality of the Amco bowls.

  4. I have owned this bowl for 2 years, and absolutely love everything about it. It's sturdy, but fairly light weight which makes it easy to manuever when turning the bowl or when pouring or scooping batter or dough out of it. I have a very high speed electric hand mixer, and the size and shape of this bowl work well to prevent splatter with cake batter. I bought this bowl for my sister, who is also thrilled with it. I plan to buy one for my mother as well, who has arthritic hands and needs something easy to grip and handle.

  5. I should've listened to the previous reviewer. I'm not sure how these bowls are normally measured, but even though it claims a 6-quart capacity, in my tests using a liquid measuring cup, this bowl only holds up to 19 cups (4.75 quarts) before spilling over, which of course is an impractical level to fill a bowl. So 4 quarts is probably more accurate, and even then I'd be worried about mixing stuff over the edge depending on what's in it.

In spite of this, I've happily used it to mix dough and fillings, and as part of a makeshift double boiler with a 3qt pot. It's a sturdy stainless steel mixing bowl with a flat bottom and a brushed metal appearance, nothing special. It doesn't have a rubber bottom like some brands, but you can always put a rubber mat or damp kitchen towel under it if that bothers you. Just make sure you aren't actually planning on putting more than a gallon of stuff in it at one time.

2 comments about Harold's Kitchen Insects & Flowers Cookie Cutters, Set of 11 in a Tin.

  1. I just got these cookie cutters in yesterday and washed them about an hour ago. The pieces are very small, I would say a small bite-size. If you look at the tin that the pieces are packed in, the tin is no more than about 5 inches in diameter. The pieces are really packed in the tin perfectly, I only hope I can fit them precisely so after they are dry. They are so small that I couldn't really fit a finger in the middle part to give them a good cleaning (you can forget about getting a sponge or washcloth in there too). So I had to swish it around in very hot soapy water and spray them clean. I am hesitant to put them in the dishwasher as I think they might rust. I also tried to hand-dry them, which is impossible for the inside parts as I mentioned above, my fingers don't fit in them! I dried the outside and tapped them on a dishcloth so that there was less water to air-dry.

The designs are cute and small, and there is a printed colored illustration in the bottom of the tin. I tossed it out as these are made in China and I don't know how safe the ink used was.

I haven't used them yet, but I plan to and also will make sure they are well floured or greased, as it would be a real pain to try to clean out any cookie dough that gets stuck in it. I guess I could use toothpicks to skewers to clean them.

  2. I find most cookie cutter shapes unexciting but I like bugs and flowers. Cook's Illustrated recommends metal cutters over plastic ones. These may call my Forschner cutproof glove into service.

The sizes are basically bite size which is just perfect for me plus the designs are just what I like so this set is doubly perfect and I recommend it. I think its okay to make tiny cookies. I can't wait to make different recipes for each shape. And to finally use royal icing.

    Ideas:
    gingerbread crocus with lemon icing
    sugar cookie butterflies
hazelnut daisy with raspberry jam center
    thyme bee with orange icing
    sage dragonfly
    mung bean ladybug
tarragon cocoa grasshopper with green icing
    brown sugar honeycomb

    Made in China
