2 comments about Mayfair & Jackson Round Porcelain Casserole with Vented Lid and Elegant Serving Rack.

  1. Very attractive serving dishes. However, the round handles on the lids (I bought two) broke off--one during shipping and one in the dishwasher. Not durable enough for regular family use.

  2. I love this -- I actually bought two (one in blue, one in yellow). The price is more than reasonable, it looks great, and it's easily put to multiple uses. In addition to cooking in it, I use it to keep pancakes, french toast, and tortillas warm for serving. Anything that makes it easier for me to sit down and eat at the same time as the rest of the family... priceless.

  1. I love this pan, I make anything from roast pork shoulder to sheet cakes...the flavors don't mix and its so easy to clean up nonstick feature...I like the gripped sides feature and it can really hold heavy items (8lb pork shoulder)
    Must have in all kitchens

  2. I LOVE analon I am getting them pieces at a time these are amazing. Food just slides out of them. Great product, if you see a price drop grab it then as their prices jump fast!

  3. I use this pan all the time to make brownies and bar cookies. Nothing ever sticks, and I haven't burnt anything yet! I also find it very easy to clean.

1 comments about Lodge Enamel Oval Casserole.

  1. Cast iron usually isn't my first choice of cookware for several reasons: it isn't non-stick; it's heavy (I have tendonitis in my hands); and it can't go in the dishwasher. Thankfully, Lodge's new enamel-coated line takes care of most of these issues!

I recently got my hands on one of their two-quart enamel-coated casserole dishes for review, in apple green. I love the wide, shallow design. After all, many casseroles wind up with browned, crusty toppings--which are the best part!--and this allows more of the casserole to come out that way. I also find this a little easier to lift, particularly because of the wide handles, although you definitely need both hands and I still let my husband move it in and out of the oven for the most part.

Two quarts is barely enough for most casseroles, I find; I usually prefer dishes that are two and a half quarts just because they allow a little more room for error and help to avoid spill-overs. However, I think most reasonably-sized casseroles will fit in this.

The quality of the enamel coating is part of what I love most about Lodge's enamel-coated line. In the past I've used Le Creuset enamel-coated cast iron (bought quite a while ago, so if they've improved their coating in recent years I can't address that) and it was definitely inferior. It wasn't as slick, so it didn't clean as easily nor release food as easily. It also didn't stand up all that well to metal utensils. In contrast, it's hard to imagine this coating wearing down any time soon. We made cornbread in it and it slid out of the pan without any help at all.

I love the way this pan heats evenly, holds heat and keeps a casserole warm until you come back for seconds, releases food with ease, and cleans like a charm despite the fact that you should wash it by hand. It's elegant, the wide and shallow design is perfect for giving you more of the browned topping that's so delicious on most casseroles, and it makes the niftiest oval loaf of cornbread. What more could you want?

Well okay, I wish it could go in the dishwasher on general principle, I wish they could come up with a way to make cast iron lighter for those of us with hand problems, and I wish it held just a little bit more. But in good conscience I can only take about half a point off for those, so consider my rating to be 4.5.

5 comments about Le Creuset 7-Piece Utensil Set with Enameled Stoneware Crock.

  1. I bought these because I liked my Mom's set but when I got them they were bigger than her spatulas. The spatulas were flimsy and you wouldn't be able to scrape out anything thicker than pancake batter. I was very disappointed in the quality and returned them.

  2. I purchased this as a gift for my son who is a great cook. He absolutely loves it. I was very happy with the timely way my order was handled.

  3. I received this spatula set in red free with the purchase of a 5 1/2 quart red Le Creuset dutch oven. Even with the free super saver shipping, I received this item within just a few days of ordering via UPS. The crock matches the cherry red dutch oven beautifully.

Though I have only used this set for a few days, so far, I am very, very happy with it. Firstly, the color of the stoneware crock is beautiful, graduating from a dark red at the bottom, to a lighter red at the top. Even though there is literally nothing in my kitchen to match red, the quality and beauty of the set made its own place on my counter top. It is very cheerful and easy on the eyes. Though I was suspicious about using silicon utensils while cooking, I did some research, and found that the silicone is heat resistant to 800 degrees!

I used a few of the spatulas today for the first time making huevos rancheros with refried beans. The spatulas worked beautifully scooping the pureed beans and salsa from the food processor, and worked equally well sauteeing onions and these ingredients in my hot non-stick skillet. I've been a wooden spoon man all of my cooking life, but these spatulas, which combine flexibility with heat resistance, are hard to beat. I may well begin to reserve the wooden spoons just for scraping fond and the like.

Although America's Test Kitchen gave the Le Creuset basting brush an average review, I used it today to brush veggie oil on some corn tortillas before putting them in the oven, and it worked great, and did not drip oil from the bowl to the tortilla.

In contrast to the remarks left by others, though I received this set for free, I believe it is worth Amazon's asking price. In addition to being functional, the beauty of these Le Creuset items gives you a jeune sais quoit warm and fuzzy when you finally finish cooking and simply stop to look at them. They begin to look like hard working, very attractive friends just then.

  4. This set has the nicer ergonomic rounded handles compared to their old flat sticks. It is nice that the tips come off to toss in the dishwasher and love the slotted spoonula.

Very nice price direct from Amazon.

  5. I honestly have no idea what these other people are talking about when they review this product poorly. Clearly they do not spend much time cooking. These tools are indespensible to me and I have replaced what I previously owned one by one with these as gifts. Sadly, I was not aware of this set, so I had to purchase one by one. I now own each item you see pictured, paid more, and do not have the pretty crock to boot! This IS a good deal, friends. These will out-last any of those cheaper items, will look beautiful sitting on your counter, and do the job better than any other comparable tool out there! I absolutely love how they scrape a bowl clean with one firm swipe. My daughter says she doesn't like them as there is nothing left for her in the bowl when I'm done! And they clean up like a DREAM, which again, cheaper ones do not - most of those stain almost immediately or not long after you have them. My bright red Le Crueset spatulas and basting brush look brand new all the time. I will concede that there seems to be a bit of a problem with the newer spatulas - that the ends can pop off (they're not glued I guess for easier cleaning?), but that rarely occurs and still does not change my opinion.

  1. Beautiful color perfect size. Arrived in mint condition. However, the description said "oven use", therefore I thought this size would be great for my large toaster oven ( I live alone) and very rarely use the "big" stove oven. Wrong! This is not designed for use in any toaster oven. I most definitely will not buy another piece of this stoneware and would definitely reccommend another brand!

  2. First, the good news: Beautiful color, beautiful design, affordable. Next, the bad news: After giving my family a lecture about being careful with these casseroles (I bought two sizes), I chipped a small piece off the handle as I was washing it before its first use!

Considering the great care I was taking, I'd rate these casseroles as UNREASONABLY breakable. They won't last long through everyday use, so I cannot recommend them. My suggestion: Save up and buy Le Creuset enameled cast iron cookware, which your great-grandchildren will happily inherit.

  3. I love this brand of cookwear. I recently purchased this red piece to add to my "collection" and I love it. It's the best piece of cookwear I have that food really won't stick to (with no teflon involved, either, to pamper from scratches and peeling). Cleanup is truly a breeze with these corning creations pieces. I'd recommend them to anyone who loves to bake but doesn't like the mess of presoaking and scraping to cleanup. They look wonderful, too, forever!!!
