  1. The tongs don't stay open unless the hinge is parallel to the floor. If you wanted to flip a steak in a pan you'd have to force the tongs open before you grab the food (the force of gravity keeps them closed). The spring mechanism is a single sheet of metal which slowly flexes back into place, not a spring mechanism (like a mousetrap). Bad design.

  2. These are decent tongs that will probably last a long time. They work well without scratching your nonstick cookware. My only quibble is the locking mechanism but that's probably just personal preference.

5 comments about Amco 4-Quart Stainless Steel Mixing bowl.

  1. This one is small and is better suited for small quantities. Not very appropriate for liquids, as they would splash out of the bowl, although a couple of beaten eggs can be worked fine in it, as well as a small amount of vinaigrette. For batter or whipping eggs, it is better to use a bigger one. It is very solid and sturdy and worth the higher price tag.

  2. I have a few of these bowls and they are great for making anything in the kitchen. They clean up really well by hand or just put them in the dishwasher. Buy one or more, you will love them that much!

  3. I have a set of 3 different size Amco mixing bowls and use all of them frequently. They nest together for easy storage and seldom a week goes by that I don't need to pull out at least one for some job in the kitchen. This is the middle-sized one of the three I have and works great for mixing up most box mixes, brownies, etc. All the Amco bowls are very solid, commercial grade and stainless steel, with a nice edge for gripping and a large flat surface on the bottom so they don't move around much when mixing in them. They really hold up well over time (I've had mine for 5 years now) and go through the dishwasher if need be without a problem.

  4. If you are considering both the 4qt. and the 6qt. you should know the 6qt. is only about 1/2qt. bigger than the 4qt. as indicated in other reviews.

  5. While I wasn't willing to plunk down $80 for an overpriced All-Clad mixing bowl, I was looking for a stronger than usual, commercial-style mixing bowl, sturdier than what is typically sold at say, Target or Bed Bath & Beyond.

This mixing bowl is easy on the wallet, and is a strong little number as well. The steel is definitely quality, and fairly thick, and the bottom is also flat for a better grip on one's countertop. I also purchased the smaller 2-quart bowl as well, and the bottom of that is sheathed in an attractive blue rubber, that also enhances traction on countertops.

My only gripe is that now I need to buy the 6 quart as well, for larger jobs such as cake batter or salads. Really a nice set. But, I'd say save yourself some money and get the bowls individually, rather than the set of 3 bowls for $49.99 that Amazon is also offering.

5 comments about Amco 5-Cup Sifter.

  1. After much research on Amazon, I finally chose this as the most likely to work. It was a gift for my wife who loves to bake. However, several weeks after it arrived it stopped working. The little wheels no longer spin when one squeezes the handle. Lousy quality. And since its been more than 30 days, I can't return it either. Do yourself a favor and buy a product that works.

  2. I do not like this sifter at all because it starts out sifting while using the spring action handle and then it stops sifting after a few pulls and you end up having to shake the sifter to get the flour out. Now I see why it's up as a clearance item. Don't waste your money if you are buying it for its intended purpose. You might get by with doing a cup, but no way will it do more without shaking it and hitting it against your other hand. This one was a let down. I ended up ordering the hand cranking kind because I know they work pretty good.

  3. I've used this sifter now for nine years and it is absolutely fabulous! It hasn't the first sign of rust at all after all those years of use, tossing it into the dishwasher, etc. I cannot recommend it enough. It's easy to use, quite powerful, and the flour, etc. is sifted before you know it. It has such a large capacity that it makes the job a ton smoother. Highly, highly recommend!

  4. For all you aspiring cooks out there, when a recipe calls for sifted flour, don't do like I used to do and just just loose measured flour - it isn't the same. Sifting is an important step in any recipe that calls for it.

This is a great product, and a great price... but when you add in shipping the cost doubles.

  5. This is a great sifter for all your cooking needs. I have only one thing against it(the reason it has 4 not 5 sars). The spring is too strong in the handle. If you use this much you will either be very tired or have forearms like Popeye!! Still over all a good sifter.

5 comments about Amco Spoon Rest.

  1. I bought this before I really started getting into cooking, thinking that it was a good idea to have a spoon rest so the counter doesn't get dirty. But now that I cook a lot, the only thing this thing does is make it so I have one more thing to wash.

The item itself is good quality and easy to clean, so if you want a single spoon rest - I would recommend the item. It's also useful if you're making a single pot meal where you really are only using one utensil - then that ONE utensil can rest here.

  2. Really nice, quality spoon rest with plenty of room for different sized cooking utensils. My only problem with it..and the reason I knocked off a star is..Amazon sent me a damaged one and it's not worth sending back. They really need to practice quality control..I've seen this complaint on many items and seriously wonder if they buy loads of "seconds" to make money...? It's a nice spoon rest however, and worth the money.

  3. This is THE best spoon rest! It will accommodate any cooking utensil -- large or small. I use it every day. It goes into the dishwasher and comes out looking shinny and new. It sits on my counter next to the stove, looks great and is always ready for use. I'm going to order three more for Christmas presents. A truly great product.

  4. This is an excellent item! First I like that it is stainless steel so that if anything gets stuck on it you can just *brillo* is off. The stainless finish makes it very arractive and so much better looking than most kitchy-looking spoon holders. Altho this is more of a utensil holder...its big. Its a great fit for wooden spoons, the heat-resistant spatulas, large spoons..etc. It will even accomodate ladles altho they pretty much rest on it, as opposed to rest in it.

This unit is sturdy and weighty. It doesnt move around or tip when you put on a utensil. I have put it in the dishwasher with no problem.

This would be an excellent item for someone setting up a kitchen, a kitchen themed gift basket, or a kitchen themed housewarming gift.

    It's really an excellent item

  5. Seriously, this spoon-rest is bigger than you think it is going to be. Which in my mind is a good thing because when you put your drippy sloppy utensils on it ... it needs to collect all the glop.

It washes up great in the dishwasher too!

  1. They don't scratch, grip well and are reasonably priced. If they were a little more forgiving on delicate items (chicken nuggets, fish fillets, etc.), I would give them five stars, otherwise they are a good value.

  2. High quality silicone coated tongs. Springs open, locks closed. Does NOT scratch my non-stick skillets.

  3. These would be ok but I didn't realize just how big they are. I wanted something I could actually cook with. They are a full 12" long. The handles didn't fit comfortably in my hand and the silicon tips are hard, not rubbery texture like I'd imagined. The tips open to about 6" between them.
Hope this helps someone else know better if it's what they want.

  4. I needed a good set of tongs to use in non-stick pans. Not having to worry about melting the tips is what really makes these great. I'll confess that it did take me a minute to figure out how to lock them. Locking is simply push/pull the spring with the hanging ring. I think you'll like these.

  5. I use my other Amco set (metal tips) all the time. These don't get as much use but working with non-stick surfaces will get these out of the cabinet every time.

5 comments about Amco Enameled Aluminum Orange Squeezer.

  1. It definitely does NOT get anywhere near all the juice out of an orange. The inside part that does the actual pressing is too small. I squeezed until the handles touched - in other words the world's strongest man couldn't have done any more - and there was juicy orange still left in the rind. These were what I would call medium-sized oranges.

  2. this review works for both the lime Amco Enameled Aluminum Lime Squeezer, Dark Green and lemon Amco Enameled Aluminum Lemon Squeezer squeezers, as well.

after trying the lemon squeezer, a unitasker if there ever was one, i went ahead and purchased both the lime and orange squeezers. i am happy with all three. the construction has proven to be solid, the pin is solid and can take punishment, and you will never find something better that these tools for getting juice out of your citrus.

while i have owned orange juicers and all manner of electric and manual gadgets to extract juice from my lemons, limes, and oranges, these Amco tools have proven the best. after squeezing hundreds of fruits with them i have found that ease of use, quick clean-up, and agreeable price to be compelling enough for me to both reccommend them to you and to buy them as gifts to foodie friends.

    five stars.

  3. this product is exactly what every baker needs.
I would dread grating orange rinds and squeezing juice. Now it is so simple that I actually enjoying use and the flavor is much better in the finished baked product

  4. Pros: It's solid. Great concept, great design. Fast and easy to clean. Much less of a hassle than our electric Black & Decker juicer.

Cons: It doesn't work well. We tried oranges and grapefruits, halves and quarters. It just doesn't close far enough to squeeze every last bit of juice out. I squeezed a quarter of a grapefruit, and even though I got a pretty good amount of juice, I was still able to eat what was leftover - and it was still juicier than some of the non-squeezed grapefruits I've had. I can see where it might have a good application, but if you just want a glass of orange juice, it's not the most efficient way.

  5. We previously bought the lemon-sized squeezer, which proved to be very convenient and effective for lemons and limes. We needed this larger size (which had been unavailable at our local store). We're very happy with the product. Works like a charm!

3 comments about Amco Nylon Slotted Serving Spoon.

  1. Looks like it would be a great spoon in the picture, so between that and the reviews, I bought it. It is worse than the things I was hoping to replace. Not only that, some reviewer mentioned for the stainless steel model (same spoon, just no nylon) that it is a lunch lady's spoon. The line is NOT. The scoop of the spoon is so tiny that it is useless. When you add the flimsiness to it, they're worthless for cooking a huge potful of heavy eats.

  2. I purchased this because of it seemed strong yet gentle on my pots and pans. I was right. We always are looking for this piece when doing any cooking. It does not bend and get flimsy when heated like many other spoons we have used while cooking. To make a long story short, I am very disappointed to find that [you] apparently no longer carrying this. My dog got a hold of our spoon and chewed it up pretty good. I was hoping to buy a couple more :o(

  3. To have the benefits of using a tool that doesn't scratch your pots and pans ALONG with the durability of a steel handle, it's worth every penny.

  1. Looks like it would be a great spoon in the picture, so between that and the reviews of the different items for the same line, I bought it. It is worse than the things I was hoping to replace. Not only that, some reviewer mentioned for one of the stainless steel models that it is a lunch lady's spoon. The line is NOT. The scoop of the spoon is so tiny that it is useless. They're worthless for cooking a huge potful of heavy eats. I wish I could post a picture and dimensions of a heavy duty spoon. I can't seem to find any. I guess the Chinese manufacturers don't want us to eat so much. ;-)

  2. I greatly enjoy using this spoon. Nice and heavy, with smooth edges, it's very well made. A pair of these are great for serving salad.

  3. Amco is a commercial line of heavy duty stainless steel products that are used in restaurant and home kitchens. This Amco Professional 12-Inch 18/8 Stainless Steel Slotted Spoon is a very durable utensil. You will find yourself reaching for it to remove any kind of food from hot or boiling water. Its long handle, with a hole for hanging on your pot rack, helps to protect you from steam burns. This slotted spoon, like other Amco stainless steel kitchen utensils, is very utilitarian and will last you a lifetime. It is dishwasher-safe, too.

    Highly recommended!
