  1. Tried to post correction to item description under my "wearetheborg" login but it has not posted for several days so....Please be advised that upon further review (looking on the side of the box), this pan is made in China and not the US.

  2. This pan is a great size for a 20lb bird. Solid MC2 construction and it's made in the USA. Item description does not state it but the interior of the pan is nonstick and not stainless. Good if you are a nonstick fan or not so good if you have reservations about using nonstick.

  1. A gift for my wife, who disliked them very much. She is a very accomplished cook, but not dishwasher. Clean-up is harder than for other types of cookware. She gave them away.

  2. For 32 years I had been buying, and throwing away, pots and pans which had been purchased on sale. It was what I thought I could afford. Why spend money on "good" housewares? It was only for cooking, right? Wrong...

I sigh when I think of the dinners spoiled because the pots didn't heat evenly or burned the food, as well as the hours wasted cleaning charred food from the bottom of once-shiny metal pots. The $ spent on the discards could have bought one piece of quality cookware which I would probably still own today. They were no bargain if I had to throw them away.

Such waste could have been avoided had someone told me about All Clad. This particular pot is used every night of the week. It heats evenly, food doesn't stick to it, and looks brand new after cleaning. An important factor is that the product is made in the USA, and not in China. American companies need our support so I am willing to pay a higher price for quality. My wish list for any occasion includes only a piece of All Clad.

  1. These are, I in my most humble opinion, the finest pots you can buy. They're solid, beautiful (if you're into pots) and well designed. If cooking is your passion, you can do no better. The internal copper core does an outstanding job of spreading the heat evenly and the interior and exterior stainless steel cleans up easily. The pots are even dishwasher safe although you may need to use copper polish to restore the bright finish of the exposed copper band if you do use the dishwasher.

Please note, the pots won't do the cooking for you so if you have no idea what you are doing in the kitchen, you can still burn dinner or turn out a lousy meal...but at least you will have done it evenly and in style! On the other hand, because they cook so well, they could make learning to cook or expanding your cooking horizons a joy.

A couple final notes. 1) The pots are heavy. All-Clad definitely did not skimp on the materials. Fortunately, for the heaviest pots, they have a secondary handle on the lip of the pot to help you lift. 2) They are expensive. I looked everywhere and could not find All-Clad discounted. Even retailers that carry the line are careful to exclude All-Clad when they have their big sales. That said, Amazon's price is as good as any, and with Amazon Prime, the pots were delivered to my door the day after I ordered them (all 54 pounds in one box) for only $3.99. 3) These are heirloom pots. I had a hard time reconciling paying so much for the set until I realized that we'll own these pots for the rest of our lives and that when we're gone, our children will continue to enjoy them.

  1. Not only is this an excellent roaster, it also works great as a turbotiere--perfect for poached flounder, and, by turning the rack upside-down and adding some water to the pan, as a very effective smokeless broiler.

  2. Because I am an All-Clad fan, and I own and use more All-Clad pieces than I really can afford, I feel like a traitor as I begin to write this. I wish I could return-for-refund my copy of this very pricey All-Clad "French Oven" (not purchased from amazon.com). For my needs, my two Le Creuset oval ovens and one Le Creuset round "buffet casserole" do the (French / Dutch) "oven" thing better, cheaper, and more beautifully. Cast iron, although not as physically tough as stainless steel, really does hold the heat much better, plus it works with induction, just in case you have induction (I do not) and you need to use the "oven" on the stove-top; this All-Clad oven bottom is non-magnetic. Le Creuset uses cast iron for the cover as well as for the bottom, unlike this All-Clad piece, which has the plain stainless steel (non-clad) cover, which I think compromises the "oven" concept of all-encompassing uniform heat. My All-Clad oven's wire rack (a plus over Le Creuset, which has none) is totally flat, and it hugs the rounded contours so snugly that the little bent-wire legs do not even touch the bottom of the pan, so the rack is not totally stable. A bed of mirepoix or potatos or such vegetables would perform better than this rack unless you are going for enclosed dry roasting of poultry, which really needs a non-flat rack, one that can hold the bird in the desired position. This oven's bottom pan is too deep to double as a roasting pan unless you can find a V-rack that will properly fit this pan. Also without its cover, the pan likely could be used for baking lasagna, but I think that the top of the food would be too far below the top of the pan for proper browning. Now, it is just barely possible that I somehow am not getting the point of this All-Clad "French Oven". (I understand All-Clad's attractive "Dutch Oven" OK, but cast iron really is the more appropriate material for the task.) In any case, I am hoping that someone from All-Clad will read this, take pity on me, and wave their magic wand, absolving me of my treachery, and take back their piece so that I then can put that money into other All-Clad items that I (really, truly do) need.

1 comments about Emerilware 8-Quart Tall Stock Pot with Lid.

  1. After scarring my hands putting out a cooking-oil fire (it's a long story) I decided I needed a TALL pot for future use, so that I wouldn't need to fill it more than halfway. This pot suits very well. When about half-full with slightly more than 2 qts oil, my Taylor thermometer is sufficiently submerged to register correctly. And being stainless steel, the pot is easy to clean.

The only thing I don't like is that the handles are high enough that the anti-spatter screen can't lie flat on the top, so oil continues to spatter out when I put in the doufu/tofu (I deep-fry cut up doufu both as a snack to eat with a dipping sauce - it's delicious - and for later use in stirfrying). That's a relatively minor problem, but together with the small manufacturing imperfections (pitting in the steel) it's enough to lower my rating from a 5 to a 4.
