  1. Great Book on the CD

i enjoy all the books but i really like

As a Man Thinketh by James Allen

One day, as I was browsing the local chain bookstore, I came across this small book on the "bargain table". How ironic to think that the most profound and life changing work I would ever read would be had for $4.99.

Unfortunately, this writer is still relatively unknown. I have seen quotes from this, his greatest work, "As a Man Thinketh" now and then, but I have seen nothing else.

    His Life

James Allen was born in Leicester, England.

When he was fifteen, the family business failed and his father left for America to find work. His father was murdered before he could send for the family and subsequently, James left school and worked for several British manufacturers. His literary career lasted only nine years until his death. "As A Man Thinketh" was his second book.

In fact, it was only upon his wife's insistence that he published the book.

    His Works

I have recently discovered the titles of several other books by James Allen and fortunately for all of us, they are still in print. All of these may be purchased directly from Sun Publishing Company or ordered through your normal book retailer. In addition, there is a "Wisdom of Emile Coue and James Allen" CD collection available from Amazon.Com.

    Above Life's Turmoil

    All These Things Added

    As A Man Thinketh
    Byways of Blessedness
    The Divine Companion
    Eight Pillars of Prosperity
    Entering the Kingdom
    Foundation Stones To
    Happiness and Success
    From Passion to Peace
    From Poverty to Power
    The Heavenly Life
    The Life Triumphant
    Light on Life's Difficulties
    Man: King of Mind, Body
    and Circumstance
    Men and Systems
    The Master of Destiny
    Meditations, A Year Book
    Morning and Evening Thoughts
    Out From the Heart
    The Shining Gateway
    Through the Gate of Good
    The Way of Peace

I am quite excited to find these other titles and to be perfectly honest, very surprised that there are so many other works still in print.

Other Allen Works and Info on the Net
    Above Life's Turmoil
    Byways of Blessedness
    Who was James Allen?

    In Closing

James Allen, in my opinion, is perhaps one of the greatest writers of this century.

He portrays the Truth clearly, eloquently and with no misunderstanding. "As A Man Thinketh" is a timeless piece, one which I wish the entire world could read, hence, the web page. I hope it inspires you as it did me.

So this CD have the great eBook ...

    As A Man Thinketh

  2. the ebooks on this CD give sound advice about money or how to obtain it. the books does a good job of instilling in us that we can have it all. Just shoot for the stars and stay focused on your dreams and it will happen. There is nothing that we can imagine, that we can't do. So what are we waitnig for, let's begin the journey of self fullfillment.

  3. This is a great collection of success literature. All of the titles represent the best in this genre. I particularly enjoy Acres of Diamonds:

Russell Conwell's book, "Acres of Diamonds" was developed from a speech he delivered to church congregations over 5,000 times. The proceeds he earned from this speech are reputed to have given him a fortune, which he used to found Temple University in Philadelphia.

"Acres of Diamonds" is the story of a successful farmer in India named Al Hafed. Hafed is tempted by the allure of wealth and sells his farm to search the world for diamonds. Years later he dies penniless, having not found diamonds. However, back home the man who purchased Hafed's farm accidentally discovers a huge field of diamonds on Hafed's former land.

Conwell uses this story to illustrate that success often lies close at hand, if you are willing to open your eyes and mind to opportunity. Conwell further suggests that most people are "pygmies of their possible selves," rarely achieving the potential of their innate abilities or local opportunities. Conwell also discusses his basic philosophy of business and gives several rules, or suggestions, for budding entrepreneurs:

    1. The seeds of fortune are close at hand. Stick with what you know, find your niche, and don't be swayed by the allure of "greener pastures."
    2. Find out what people want, and fill that need. This sounds obvious, but many entrepreneurs start with a product or service, and then try to find a market for their product or service. Conwell advises finding the market first, then developing a product or service to meet that demand.
    3. Make the best possible product and provide them to a large number of people.

"Acres of Diamonds" was first published in 1921. It is still valid today, and provides valuable lessons to anyone attempting to achieve financial success.

You may also want to read Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill and The 17 Principles of Creating Wealth by Phillip Collinsowrth.

  4. I was expecting what it said, it was supposed to be an audio book. It has one book as an audio book the rest are ebooks, which I already have. So I wasted my money.. Ripped Off big time..!!!

I gave it 1 star because I had to rate it, there should be minus stars, make that minus 10 stars..

  5. I too was lead to believe and under the impression this CD was several audio books. Not the case, there is only one audio book all the others are simply pdf file book. This CD is a rip-off.

  1. I am not very impressed with the quality of the reviews and the quality of the CD is below average.
I own all original copies of the CD.

  2. The reader has a strong accent and is hard to understand. The quality of this product is very poor. Also, I understood I was ordering an audio CD, but received a CD with MP3s which I could only play on my computer since I don't have an mp3 player. I know these books are very good and have great information, but this version is not the way to hear these books.

  3. Prior review discribes the narrator as being difficult to understand. As another sign of quality, Acres of Diamonds was written by Russell Conwell, the founder of Temple University, not Russell Cornwell. You would think any writer, proofreader, publisher, etc. would have picked this up before packaging and selling a $40 product.

Highly recommended book. Miss a meal, but don't miss a book and don't miss this book. It is outstanding.

1 comments about Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill (Paperback 1960).
  1. After finishing "Think and Grow Rich" I have suddenly realized that this simple slogan is the single way of life in a capitalist society. In this book, as the only way of getting rich, the author advocates goal-directed way of life, purposefulness, constant self-perfection, courage, the skill to think and to act, and the other similar traits of character.

Many people came to a conclusion that the wealth, in some extent, depends on a level of education, motivation, self-esteem, and so on. The problem is that not all the people in equal extend incline to the education, to their self-improvement. This is because of the differences of their needs, habits, abilities, capabilities, and so on. Leo Tolstoy in his novel "Resurrection" arose a question of how to improve the level of education within a society: from inside of each individual or from outside? Which came first, the chicken or the egg? Should first the level of education of each and every individual be risen which yields a revolution (dialectic transition of quantity into quality) or the revolution should make the environment to foster the education of every individual?

The traits advocated by Napoleon Hill correspond to the first Leo Tolstoy's way of improving society. If each and every individual will improve, the society will automatically improve. The second way of Leo Tolstoy (create the environment which will foster the education of every individual) is contrary to Napoleon Hill's ideas: "if something is got for free or without big effort, it won't be appreciated, won't be handled with care or you won't trust it". Free education and medical care won't be respected properly by people, regardless how good this education and medical care are. That's why the socialist society will develop slower than capitalist. Marxists knew this and have built the concept of World revolution (to overthrow of capitalism in all countries), and a further idea by Trotsky that it was impossible to build socialism in a single country. Trotsky wrote that the socialist economy is not as efficient as capitalist and without the World revolution the USSR won't be able to overcome its economic underperformance.

Napoleon Hill praises the freedom and opportunities of the capitalist society of the U.S. in particular, which gives, according to Napoleon Hill, boundless opportunities for an individual who is able to think and grow rich.

I also recommend "The Road to Serfdom" by F. A. Hayek in addition to this book. Although "Think and Grow Rich" is a classical self-help book for a general reader while "The Road to Serfdom" is mostly academic, I think that both of them should be read.

5 comments about The Law of Success, Volume I: The Principles of Self-Mastery (Law of Success, Vol 1) (The Law of Success).
  1. First on the quality of information in this book, it is outstanding. The tossil marker, sufficient. But more to the point, this reader says Napolean Hill did not write a book called Keys to Success; I beg your pardon. He certaintly did. It is subtitled: The 17 Principles of Personal Achievement and actually offers even more concrete information on these 17 principles than Think and Grow Rich.

Hill also wrote The Master Key to Riches which this reviewer from Canada refers to. EASY MISUNDERSTANDING. Just wanted to clear that up.

  2. Just to set the record straight Napoleon Hill only wrote the following books.

    1919-1920
    "The Golden Rule Magazine"
    Napoleon Hill edited and published

    1928
    "Law of Success"
    published (Ralston Society, Publishers)

    1930
    "The Magic Ladder to Success"

    1937
    "Think and Grow Rich"

    1939
"How to Sell Your Way Through Life"

    1953
"How to Raise Your Own Salary"

    1960
"Success Through a Positive Mental Attitude"

    1970
"You Can Work Your Own Miracles"

All other books were either compiled by others or used his notes to write the books, he himself did not write them, period. I have been studying his works for 15 years. Yes, I am rich from studying his works.

As with any revision there will always be some critics, the original LOS contained only 15 laws, I have seen the original set with my own eyes, again the authors are correct.

Some of the things in this book could have been done differently as with all revisions, however they did their best to remain true to the spirit of the book...

I purchased the huge paperback and enjoyed the little notes they added, some of them could have gone a little deeper, but no biggie.

Ideally, in a perfect world it would be perfect. Keep in mind they worked with a lot of people who all had to agree on these things.

  3. I have been following Napolean Hill since 1975. The review that precedes mine indicates that Hill only wrote a few books that the reviewer posts. The fact is that Napolean Hill wrote ALL the books that bear his name. TRUE, some of his books have been repreinted by other publishers, I believe this is what the reviewer is trying to communicate.

Saying that he did not write all the books he is credited with is like saying that is not Napolean Hill's voice on the tape programs.

Obviously, this reviewer is as confused as the reviewer from Canada. In fact, probably the same person who suddenly decided to live in New Jersey.

  4. Many of the self help books today are like fast food. Made for easy consumption.
I guess that is why The Law of Success was such a pleasant surprise. It has some real meat to it. So much so that it has taken me three weeks to digest just the first two volumes of material on the 17 Laws that are presented in the first two installments.
This volume covers the first four lessons of the 17 principles that make up The Law of Success.

Self-Mastery is engaging enough to make me continue on to volume II as well as order volumes 3 & 4. Hard to believe it was written so long ago but yet is STILL so relevant to today's business environment.

The 4 questions on Definiteness of Purpose were the best part. They are as follows:
    1. Have you decided upon a definite goal in life?

    2. Have you set a date for reaching that goal?

    3. Do you have a specific plan for achieving your goal in life?

    4. Have you determined what definite benefits your goal in life will bring you?

    Rating: A Buy

  5. The Law of Success is a masterpiece!

Read at your own risk! If you have an open mind and a willingness to learn and take action your life WILL have changed by the time you have finished reading this book.

I would strongly suggest reading this while listening to "Your Right To Be Rich!" Hearing the voice of Napoleon Hill while reading this EXCELLENT condensation of his Principles of Self Mastery is a must!

Even thought this work is compiled it is a must have for any fan of Napoleon Hill's!

    Get it today!
