  1. I bought this book on a recommendation from another trader. I paid a lot less than the $175 they are asking now, but I still thought it was very expensive. I read through half of the book and thought it was interesting. On one of those days I had the book open on my desk and realized that one of the patterns from the book was forming! I waited till the right moment and took the trade on 2 year treasuries. Exited the trade about a minute later with a $225 profit. That paid for the book on a single trade.

I realize I could have also lost $225 on that trade, then the cost of the book would have been around $350. I was now happy with the purchase of the book. I looked for more trades, but did not find any that week. Then the book got pushed aside and forgotten about. I found the book again last week because I heard someone mentioning it. I pulled it out and reread it.

I think the book has something to offer. Is it too expensive? That is hard to say. For me it became free after one trade. Was I just lucky? I don't think so because I can scroll through charts and see a lot of the set-ups in hindsight. So the trades are there, its just a matter of being there to pull the trigger as they happen.

I hope to get more out of the book from this second reading. One thing I have noticed is that many times I read a book and get something. Then upon rereading it I pick up many thoughts that I did not see or understand during the first reading. Maybe I wasn't ready at the time, but having many dozens of books under my belt and lots more life experience in between the first and second readings, I was able to digest more.

  2. you can always spot s loser by one of (or both) of two reactions:

1- They want to get into a business to make money but think $200 is too much!!

2- They expect what they read to agree with their bias

Anyone who wants to make money but thinks a book is expensive at $170 has the wrong personality for trading. If you are like that, you have no business trading because you are too greedy and a coward.

Secondely, when you are making a comment about someone, it is really important to REALLY be sure that what you are saying is acccurate. The implication that Linda does not make money trading is just ridiculous. The woman is a bloody Market Wizard, for God's sake! She is also a pretty crap promoter of her services.

The book is excellent. The question is: does it contain methods that can make you money? Of course it does. You guys are clearly sleep walking because you are concentrating on believing that every method in the book will make you money all the time under any circumstances. Quit believing that and pick the ones that work under different market conditions. If you can't, it is your fault, not the book's.

If you watch Linda trading, you will see her using those setups under the right conditions. The fact is, if you cannot make money trading the setups in the book, you are either new and have to learn the basics first, or you are not cut out for this business.

  3. I cant this book is $175 !!! for the material inside is plain junk, i have read ALLOT of books from gann to elliot to andews and this has to be the worst book i have ever read the methods taught are very indicator based and will not work in the long run the wolf wave method is basicly elliot wave rehased, there are better books to learn the elliot wave best book in my opinion robert miner's book, as for momentum is concerned larry williams. and for breakouts edward's and magee. I have been trading for 10 years but i constantly buy books just to see if i can atleast get one golden nugget out of them, this book however has no good insight into anything i did not get one good idea out of this book. As for some of the reviews on here if you click see all my reviews this is the only book they have reviewed ....hmmm but if you are serious about trading the books i reccomended above are very insightfull atleast they were for me, miners book is old but is full of new ideas and less based on indicators and has very easy to follow rules for elliot, i guess what they say is right old is gold. good luck

  4. I found this book to be very insightful in spotting possible setups on a chart. The downfall is that it's very expensive. I got mine via digital delivery on Ebay for $49. The techniques must be followed exactly in order for you to profit from them. And remember to use stops...only a fool trades without using stops.

  5. This is an advanced book, and it does no hand holding. It is a trading niche book. It is not about day trading, nor momentum trading, but a unique subset of short term trading called "swing trading". If you do not know the difference, this book is not for you. It is not earth shattering. But, it is written by traders who have done it for a living for decades. Thus, it is worth knowing how they think, and how they have earned a living. And, yes, you mostly only make a few hundred bucks at a time, if you are good. Not riches, but "a living".

The price is high, but this is a small niche market. They will sell few copies. Linda Raschke has done this technique of swing trading and earned a living at it for decades. I would not expect her to take time off to write about it for chump change. If it were a mass market, a lower price would be in order, but this book is good for very few people.

I give it four stars only because of the terse format. BUT, they are traders not literary artists. I cannot fault them for not writing War and Peace.

If you are an experienced trader, and expect nothing more than a few hundred bucks when a trade goes well, and protection from loss when it does not, this book will either confirm what you know, which is helpful, or add a trick or two that you did not know, which is more helpful. Traders are successful who earn a living, a few hundred dollars at a time, several times a day, day after boring day. It is not a book for others at all, and not a book to start with. If you magically expect more money than this, buy another book. And, nothing in short term trading is really new over time. This is not a breakthrough book of new and novel ideas. The first idea, "Turtle Soup" came from the Turtles which have been around many decades. It is nice to read that this pattern has not yet worn itself out, and is still used. I am happy to have it in my library. I am happy to know that old tricks still work for old dogs.

  1. This book was a decent read. I probably would have gotten more benefit from it if I lived in a part of the country where there was less competition for REOs. It is not feasible in the part of the country where I live to expect for there to be an abundance of REO properties at bargain rates. There is so much competition in the part of the country that I live in that the information in this book is just of general use. I still
recommend that you buy it. But its usefulness will be determined by how much competition is in your area for REOs.

  2. I do not read many books from cover to cover. This one I read. I found it very useful and informative. I had two properties that I purchased at FMV. I have since purchased two other properties since reading this book. They were HUD foreclosed properties that I purchased at 75% below FMV minus repairs. I used my own money, fixed them up,refinanced them and got an 80% loan. I pulled back all my money plus I now have $19,000 of equity in one and $16,000 of equity in the other one. I did walked away with $5k and $3k respectively after expenses. I did a lease purchase but not their way. I did the non-qualifying with the big money up front. Their way did not work for me. I tried it though. This book really got my brain to churning. It is not a get rich quick book but if you are serious and looking to build wealth I think this is a good book to read. I call it my real estate bible. I am currently trying to find one that is better or just as good but have not found it so far.

  3. absolutly fantastic...
gives you new ideas and way to do real estate in a way that really appeal to those who not just want their success but seeking other's too.

  4. Book was very simple to read, finished it in 2 days, probably could of done it in one except for a big accounting test got in the way. The book gives you another strategy on real estate, and it is very inspiring to get you off your butt and go do it.

  5. This product promises more than it delivers, like their book, the claims make big promises, but there are lots of disclaimers, and no real meat, just ideas which are supposed to be real good, but who knows. It seems to be another link towards buying more of their stuff.

5 comments about The Real Estate Recipe: Make Millions by Buying Small Apartment Properties in Your Spare Time (Nuts & Bolts Series) (Nuts & Bolts series).
  1. This will be my first and only online review of any of my 200+ books in my library. But it needed to be said... The Biggest disappointment I have ever purchased...

    1 Star
    Two Thumbs Down
    A Complete waste of money!

212 total pages (With Huge fonts and Filler pages after every Chapter Title Page)

4 Pages of Filler for "note"-taking in the back

17 Pages of "Constant Payment Tables/Remaining Loan Balance" Charts

The Book Averages 4 pages (Sides not full) per chapter of info

Page 151 is the Start of the Appendix

  2. I found the book to be a very concise (Nuts & Bolts) and logical approach to buying small apartment properties from someone who obviously knows the process. He gives you all the tools needed to anaylise, purchase, manage and project profits. The forms in the book are easily accessed at the publisher's website www.dnapress.com for downloading. I'm closing on a 7 unit property in less than 2 weeks. Thanks Brian!

  3. Of the three books I've read on investing in multi-family real estate, this is by far the best. The author does a good job of walking the reader through from start to finish the purchase of a representative property. In the appendix the author provides several very easy to understand and useful financial analysis templates which can easily be recreated in Excel or any other spreadsheet program.

  4. This is one of four books on purchasing and managing real estate that we purchased. Although pricey due to availability in hardback only, for those such as us that are first time buyers of commercial real estate, the data, clarity of thought and information will likely prove very valuable. It is a quick read that provides the basic tenets of buying multi-family units. The financial elements are fairly simplistic; hence we purchased an additional book that delves into the intricacies of purchasing and financing multi-family units.

  5. I have read and own numerous books on real estate investment and found this one to be one of the most concise and detailed books on apartment house investing on the market. I really don't understand what a previous reviewer meant by that it was a total loss. I found it to be detailed and informative. It literally takes you by the hand leads into investing on a property. I will be following the author's advice and begin investing in small apartment properties. If you are seeking true financial independence, you would be wise to purchase this book and not the crap promoted on late night t.v.

5 comments about Wall Street Words: An A to Z Guide to Investment Terms for Today's Investor (Wall Street Words).
  1. A fine book for even experienced investors. I use this book daily even though I am only a part-time investor. A nice addition to your bookshelf

  2. It has all the words, it has all the definitions...it's all here. I work for a Wall Street firm and this is one of the few investment reference guides I keep at my office. Buy it.

  3. I am currently studying for the Series 7 stockbroker exam. The study manual often introduces terms with little or no explanation. The glossary in the study manual only covers a small fraction of the terms used. Before buying this book, I would have to list the terms, stop studying, and find explanations. Sometimes, I would have to waste precious study time calling into my trainer to discuss these terms.

Now, I have all of the definitions I need right at my finger tips. This book has been a great supplement to the Series 7 study material. I no longer waste time struggling with terms I do not understand. I do not have to waste valuable time on hold calling into my trainer to get a better understanding of terms.

  4. Wall Street Words is the most valuable and most frequently used book in my library. I recommend it to my friends and to Amazon users.

  5. We really liked the book. It had all the information we were looking for. Carleen Lane

5 comments about The Short Book on Options: A Conservative Strategy for the Buy and Hold Investor.
  1. Enjoyed this book! It delivers as promised. I picked it up hoping to get a clear understanding of options and how they work. I was more than pleased, as this book provided all I was looking for, and more. The author presents material in pleasant, easy to grasp language. I now have a very clear understanding of options. The covered call writing strategy sounds good to me. I never knew it was so easy to obtain some safety for my stocks. I have already opened my options account and my broker is offering encouragement.

  2. I found this book to be just what I was looking for. After a complete introduction to the topic, Mr. Wolfinger helps the novice options investor clearly understand one conservative strategy. The author is very dedicated and thorough in explaining the concepts. He makes no assumptions that the reader has previous knowledge of what he teaches, yet he is never condescending. I also appreciate the easy to read font size. The text is large enough that I can read it without my glasses! Many thanks to the author for having the patience and know-how to start a beginner from "square one". I look forward to other books on the subject by this author.

  3. This book delivers, I did not know about options prior reading, the simple and yet comprehensive presentation allows to develop a good grasp of how to use options on a conservative and solid fashion.
What he advocates (protection and enhancement) of a portfolio is well presented and plan to use his advice.
More likely will now seek more information and knowledge with more elaborated books (not sure is really needed) but the basics are here.
    thank you Wolfinger

  4. The book is unquestionably the best book on writing covered calls available. The writer is efficient without bias and without the use of puffery to make a point.

  5. I wasn't sure what to expect from this book but it was recommended to me by a friend so I ordered it. When I got it, my first thought was
"Wow. Short book is right." But don't let its length fool you. It is for people new to options and it's a very condensed volume of information that focuses on covered calls and touches on a few variations of them. It starts out with an overview of options and gives good easy to understand examples. It then moves into buying and selling options and finally focuses on covered call writing. It gives very good examples of various trades and the affects of yields and volatility.

You can use this book to get started on covered call writing with good confidence. I really liked this book a lot because it was very focused on teaching one very effective and conservative options strategy instead of trying to teach several confusing strategies all at once.

  1. This memoir is a good and interesting read. I found the positive attitude and work ethic of Mr. Hickey very refreshing. The photos are a nice touch also.

  2. To become a respected entrepreneur to all around you - something nice to shoot for indeed. "Don't Tell Me It Can't Be Done: Your Career Is Your Ship - You Be the Captain" is Ray Hickey's story behind his success running a successful barge company and retiring comfortably at a good age. He rose up from the lowest ranks of the company to the owner of it, and he grants out his inspirational wisdom to encourage others, that no matter where you are in life, reaching the top is something that can be done. "Don't Tell Me It Can't be Done: Your Career is Your Ship - You Be the Captain" is highly recommended to any community library career collection.

  1. Excellent book. Very well written. I learned more from this book in one evening than I thought I ever could. Al Bingham explains the myteries of credit and credit scores in a way that is easy to undestand. I felt I was pretty savvy when it came to understanding my credit score but little did I know. Highly recommended. The best money I have spent on a book in a long time. A+

  2. Al Bingham does a great job of unraveling the mystery of credet scores. Not only is the information great, but the presentation is also excellent. Its easy to read. No need for a college degree to interpret what is said. If you want to know what factors are used to create credit scores and how you can improve your score, this is the book for you.

  3. This book is a must for everyone, because EVERYONE needs a raise in their credit score, especially in today's economy.

I have been looking to refinance my home with a credit score average of 620 and it wasn't working out so well. I used advice and insight from this book and got my score up to a 750 average in 3 weeks! I really didn't have any money to work with either. Of course, paying off your credit lines is the best way to get your score up, but I was very surprised to learn a few new tricks to do so without even having to pay much off! The credit score system is ridiculous and if you think you know it all, you don't!

I love how well this book is organized. It makes rather difficult insights easy to understand and easy to put into action and it really doesn't take much reading to get there.

Thanks to the authors and researchers who put this together, no other book or website I could find even compares.

5 comments about Mastering the Rockefeller Habits: What You Must Do to Increase the Value of Your Fast-Growth Firm.
  1. I have met Verne and have attended his workshops in the past, so I am a little biased; but, his book is really good. If you are a business owner or leader, his ideas will really help you grow your business. Not only grow in terms of revenue and profits, but also in terms of employee satisfaction and productivity. Do yourself a favor and read this book!

  2. This is by far the best business book I have ever read, and I have read many. This book is full of "roll up your sleeves" "get er done" practical tools and techniques. All referenced forms are available on Harnishe's website as well. The book is so readable, succinct and full of "Well Duh!" techniques and procedures that I found myself amazed that these basic techniques are not being used in more businesses.

This could be the only "how to" manual any consultant would ever need to initiate transformational changes within client organizations.

  3. I must say that the simpler management frameworks are the ones that stick with me. This book puts forth a few key management principles that are helpful for most companies.

  4. Bring organization to your organization. Hold people accountable for their work. These are some of the biggest problems I hear over and over from entrepreneurs who have emerged from the start-up phase and are trying to grow their business into a profitable machine. This book is an easy read and gives you all the tools you need. A must have for anyone looking to take their business beyond their garages.

  5. As a university instructor and entrepreneur, I wholeheartedly recommend this book. The one page strategic plan is brilliant and very doable by anyone in just a few hours time. Simple and straightforward - that's what this book teaches and that's what you should do to succeed....so Read this one for sure.

4 comments about Make Millions with Foreclosures and Short Sales; Secrets on How to Profit for The Real Estate SubPrime Crisis.
  1. As a small real estate investor I didn't believe that I would have the resources that would allow me to profit in a large manner in this type of real estate market. This book really changed my conception of how much money I could make during this real estate crisis. The information in this book was easy to understand and allowed me to begin immediately to search for homes in the pre-foreclosure stage. I would highly recommend this book for people who are looking to enter the real estate field and also for the seasoned investor.

  2. A simple easy to read book. Even the starting real estate investor can take advantage of this manual. I am in the field of Real Estate for many years and was always afraid to get into short sales because I had heard it was a lot of work. A short period of time after reading this book me and my husband are already finalizing our first Short Sale deal with our neighbours property and will be making a very good return by laying down a very small ammount of capital.

I have to be sincere here, I was a bit confused with the title and thought it would just be another "how to get rich book", nevertheless I was wrong, the author really gives you very good tips. I really loved how he makes a huge emphasis on caring about other people and how this is the secret to success in the foreclosure business.

Something else I was very impressed with, was the section about how to lower the price of the property by ethically influencing the appraisal or BPO (Broker Opinion Value). Awesome book! Probably the best out there that is in the field of short sales and preforeclosure investing. AAA++

  3. What I found very interesting about this book is that it is up to date as to what the lender requirements are for short sales. It explains what to do step by step to be able to have a positive outcome with the financial institutions.

The worksheets and all the tips throughout the book are very well thought out and explained.

This book shows investors how to take advantage of one of the most profitable investment opportunities out there. It seems like many people have decided to not pay attention to short sales because they think it could be to much work but this book illustrates in a very precise way exactly how to make money with a very small ammount of effort and no headaches.

  4. Definitely no other book in preforeclosure stage teaches you as many practical things as this book, especially the chapter on how to influence the Broker Price Opinion or Appraisal that the bank sends out to determine the final price the bank will give you. Make Millions with Foreclosures really taught me how to make it big at the time of closing.
I enjoyed the style of writing and had a great time reading it!!!
