  1. This is an insightful book with an easy to understand format and a practical approach. a great choice

  2. I bought this book about a year ago, and have read and re-read it almost daily(and I'm still not done with it). My life has changed so much because of it. It's a book that's made to be read slow and contemplated. You set your own goals and desires and Charles Haanel guides you as to how to reach them.

  1. Jack Uldrich creates an interesting and very well researched guide for those attracted to clean technology; both the beginner investor wanting to make
environmentally aware investments and experienced investors looking for information on wind, solar, biofuels and other clean tech will benefit from this book. I would recommend for those people interested in environmental investing in specific technologies like biofuels (chapter 4), solar investing (chapter 5) or wind investing (chapter 6) read that chapter first. Then proceed to chapter
7, Alternative Energies, where Green Investing covers geothermal, fuel cell, wave and clean coal investment opportunities.

In my opinion chapter 8 on energy conservation shows the most promise for short term investing, in regards to clean technologies, and make the purchase
price of the book a great investment - well worth the purchase price.

To go on the author, Jack Uldrich, does a great job of presenting facts and research on the green tech companies and to his credit he keeps the passion (hype) out of the presentation. Having read several of his books, and heard him speak on a few occasions, if you want passion on future technology you
can't go wrong with one of his other books, in fact you must read: "Jump the Curve" (2008) and "The Next Big Thing is Really Small" (2003).

  2. Its a great reference for the green investor with tips and advice for how to go about finding and choosing investments.

  3. Green Investing is a good primer on this emerging market. It's very well organized with loads of information on specific companies. it was worth the 15 bucks.

  4. I'm an experienced investor and found this book useful as an overview of the state of green investing. The advice seems objective and fair.

  5. I just read this for the solar chapter, but found the company information quite good. Thank you.

5 comments about The Complete Guide to Day Trading: A Practical Manual From a Professional Day Trading Coach.
  1. Day trading is a potentially rewarding but also quite risky profession. Many day traders jump into their new career role with both feet, but they don't succeed and often quit as quickly as they started. They either end up losing money or they make so little that they cannot leave their day job and work exclusively as a day trader.

Lack of education, lack of discipline, and other factors are among the reasons many people don't succeed when they attempt to make a living as a day trader and this is where The Complete Guide to Day Trading can help. This book explains the do's and don'ts of the profession and it includes graphic illustrations that help explain how to spot trends, how to know the right timing for buying and selling, and how to realize when the time is right to get out of a specific investment and move on to the next.

Day Trading requires discipline, education, timing, and planning. These areas, and others like them, are emphasized over and over again in this book because anyone who is lacking in any of these areas is almost certain to fail. For example, one of the most common mistakes made in day trading is not having the discipline to quit while you're ahead. A person will be trading away and will have made a decent amount of money for the day. But because market conditions are favorable and the money is looking good, the day trader will suddenly feel a surge of greed and want to continue trading. Sometimes, more money will be made but more often than not, the gains from earlier in the day will be wiped out, resulting in no positive cash flow for the day. On the opposite end, the same occurrence is commonplace. A day trader might be having a bad day with losses of a few hundred dollars. Instead of quitting for the day and hoping for a better tomorrow, the day trader will suddenly increase the amount of his/her investments in an effort to gain back what was lost. Panic can then result, leading to even greater losses. This is why discipline and planning are so important. The day trader needs to set a goal for daily earnings and then stick to that goal, resisting the temptation to continue trading.

Besides the advice on attitude, education, and the like, The Complete Guide to Day Trading is also very practical about the science of day trading and it includes many graphic illustrations to help day traders learn how markets work. This is very valuable information and these graphs and the accompanying text rank amount the most helpful parts of the entire guide. Many individuals may have sufficient education, discipline, and planning strategies, but they may have little knowledge about the actual tracking of stock options, futures contracts, foreign currency, etc. This book offers a quick overview of these different investments and how they work, followed by actual graphic illustrations that indicate the pricing trends for a specific commodity or financial security on a given day. Using these illustrations, the book indicates precise ways to spot trends and the exact moment to buy and sell.

Day trading should never be viewed as a get rich quick scheme and I like that the author doesn't promote day trading in this manner. I also like the way he includes evaluations of different software products for tracking pricing changes throughout the day and I like his lists of helpful hints and principles for day trading. Some of the educational material on stock options, futures contracts, etc., isn't as thorough as it could be, but the approach of this book is very practical and hands- on, and it serves as an effective resource for someone considering day trading as a full or part time profession.

  2. The book is definitely insightful. I am happy that I purchased it. I do believe if I had a better understanding of the trading world then maybe the information would resignate more.

  3. Day trading is not easy, and this book does a great job in "keeping it simple." The book explains how to always go for singles consistently, not the home run everyone wants. Also, good traders have a plan, and they are disciplined toward it. Traders without a plan are just gamblers. This book is so to the point, and for $15.95, you cannot afford to not have this book! 5 stars!

  4. I have had high hopes for this book based on good reviews. I admit, I slacked off and didn't check the reviewers as I normally do. For me this book was a disappointment - regurgitated and repackaged information for the beginners that you can find free on the internet.

Markus Heitkoetter of Rockwell Trading sells day trading seminars that are priced in middle four-digits. You always have to do your due diligence, whether it is a $15 book or a four-digit seminar. Otherwise you risk to buy an inferior product. In case of trading, always do research online in depth or ask the vendor to provide the track record. If any teacher cannot provide a successful track record in their field - run. Buyers beware!!!

  5. The book can be useful for an absolute beginner but it lacks the depth and substance in a lot of areas. Another warning sign is that that the book is published by writer himself, maybe that explains the underlying reason for it.

  1. Have the book and the CD. They work well together. The CD is great just after reading the book to hammer some of the big picture concepts. The CD is wonderful rush hour material to get you out of that rush hour driving sooner! It is worth the $$ to have both.

  2. This book is specifically for invertors not speculators. Haveing this on CD and a book format, its easier to grab the ideas that were written couple of decades and still its worth.

  3. I am an eager reader of books on Warren Buffett's investing methods. I really want to like "The Intelligent Investor", but I don't. Unfortunately, Benjamin Graham did not write his books to be timeless. Instead, he wrote them specifically for the investing environments as they existed at the times of publication. This audiobook is of the 1972 edition of "The Intelligent Investor", and it reflects the investing environment of the early 1970's.

The story of Mr. Market and the principle of "a margin of safety" are important concepts contained in this book, but they can be found in other writings by and about Warren Buffett.

There is an updated edition of "The Intelligent Investor" by Jason Zweig. It was published in 2003. Hopefully that is better than the older, outdated editions. It is not (yet) available in audio format.

If you are looking for a good audiobook on Warren Buffett's investing methods, I highly recommend "How to Pick Stocks Like Warren Buffett" by Timothy Vick. The best book on Buffett's investing methods that I have read is "The New Buffettology" by Mary Buffett, but it is not available as an audiobook.

  4. Great historical review, a good staple for any investor that is already in the game and understands the basics.

5 comments about Wise Investing Made Simple: Larry Swedroe's Tales to Enrich Your Future (Focused Investor).
  1. Larry Swedroe's newest: "WISE INVESTING MADE SIMPLE", imparts both knowledge and valued advice, in a series of easy-to-read tales (i.e., chapters), each ending with a morale aptly emphasizing the point of his tale for both the novice as well as the quite-well-informed investor. Swedroe is a persuasive advocate championing passive asset-class investing (buy-and-hold but re-balancing annually to restore target asset-class allocations) in a diversified portfolio of index funds and ETFs. He makes a compelling case--with outstanding clarity--just how this strategy advantages any long-term investor compared with any of the "hot methods de jur" that periodically (constantly?) are found being touted by the financial media and-- sadly for investors--much of the financial industry. (How this latter barrage of media-driven "picks" of one kind or another serves the interests of the promulgators themselves, and only secondarily-- if at all--serves the interests of the investor whose money is being rolled-around in brokerage and fund-accounts, is another eye-opening highlight of insight that the careful reader gets to see.....(the Emperor's clothes get removed, so to speak, and the Emperor is found to be unflatteringly avaricious!) And Swedroe arms his reader with the fortitude to withstand the occasional market downturns that come along every decade or so, and come out ahead when it's over! Although this book is the most recent of Swedroe's excellent series, I specially want to mention how excellent I feel a set of five chapters--Chapters 7-11 in Larry Swedroe's earlier published book, "The Only Guide to a Winning Investment Strategy You'll Ever Need"-- are. Few investments, in my opinion, are as likely to reward the investor with a higher reward-to-cost ratio, than the purchase of these two books! Thanks, Larry, for a terrific job for all of us!

  2. This is a really good book if you want insight in how to invest your money. It speaks to investing in a way that is understandable even if you aren't a financial genius, or should I say especially if you aren't. And it's fun to read.

  3. Excellent book on investing. It's all perfectly clear to me now. This really lays out what is going on in the investment community and how to have your own self interest in the forefront.
Can be a little dry reading (to be expected), but well worth the time.

  4. Wise Investing Made Simple: Larry Swedroe's Tales to Enrich Your Future (Focused Investor)[ASIN:0312339879 The Only Guide to a Winning Investment Strategy You'll Ever Need: The Way Smart Money Preserves Wealth Today]]The Only Guide to a Winning Bond Strategy You'll Ever Need: The Way Smart Money Preserves Wealth Today

I have really benefitted from Mr. Swedroe's earlier books on Winning Investment Strategies for equity and bond portfolios. This book's common sense interpretation of the important research on investing is great for an individual investor like me.

The new book uses examples of typical investor thinking and behavior to illustrate key elements of planning and discipline. I have passed the book on to two friends of mine who have been switching strategies mid-stream, paying high commissions, etc. I know that this book's approach to explaining how professionals view investing will be more accessible for new investors like them.

  5. I'll admit, I'm a very neophyte investor. I found Swedroe's description of how the market works to make a lot of sense and the first few chapters alone gave me high hopes for the rest of the book. Instead, those few chapters are the only part I found very helpful. The rest was a combination of rehashing the same points over and over, or introducing some pretty generic pieces of advice.

When Swedroe used 'concrete' examples to make his points, the statistician in me felt his spidey sense tingling. Almost all of his examples involved someone trying to outcompete the market using an investment method that Swedroe obviously doesn't like. Often, the first person is contrasted with someone who uses the passive investment method that Swedroe does like. The problem is, a lot of these examples use the setup that the first investment method did well the previous few years, but at exactly the moment these people chose their respective methods, the market changed, thus 'proving' that the passive method was really the better one to choose and therefore since it was better to choose in the 'story' presented, it must be better now.

The problem, as anyone who knows statistics can tell you, is one of 'cherry picking'. If Swedroe had instead set the two investment methods against each other and chosen a decent number of random starting points to make his case, and they had indeed shown that the passive method of i nvesting works better in a significant number of those cases, I would have given a lot more credence to his arguments. Instead, I had the impression he kept looking for starting dates that would make his case, which is a very misleading way to present a case.

Now, I'm not saying he's not right, nor am I saying that he intended to mislead, but the evidence he gives doesn't convince me.

  1. This book is an excellent, up to date view on the generation mix in the workforce. Mr. Tulgan gives a refreshing view on the what is "really" going on in the workplace. There are so many books on generations in the workplace theory and they all say the same thing. Finally, Mr. Tulgan has broke that mold and given some refreshing, up to date views.

5 comments about PMP Exam Quicklet: Project Management Professional Practice Exams.
  1. Very practical and helpful book that helped me tremendously in passing the PMP exam. Questions are very similar to the real questions in the exam. It also taught me how to correctly read the questions and identify the right answer when you are not sure. The quick review at the end of the book is also very useful: a bonus.

  2. I recently passed the PMP exam on the first try using this book to measure my grasp of the material. With this book, you get three 180 question practice exams, which is a very nice value. My exam preparation included reading the excellent Head First PMP book (cross referencing the PMBOK). Afterward, I took the first practice exam and used the results to focus my efforts for further study. Then took the second practice exam, further resolving my focus and finally took the third exam the day before sitting for the real PMP exam.

Performance Benchmark: For the three practice exams in this book, I averaged 93%, requiring an average of 36 seconds per question. (You might consider this a benchmark for passing the real exam)

    Cons:

Overall, I found the questions to be a good representation of about 60% of the exam. The remaining questions were of a much trickier nature (perhaps better approximated by Oliver Lehmann's prep material).

There are numerous typos in this edition. Be sure to check out the Errata in Development (in the Customer Discussion section, near the bottom of the Amazon page).

    There are many repetitive questions.

Bottom Line: a good value. A helpful tool to measure your knowledge and focus your study. But should be used in conjunction with other reputable practice exams (like Head First and Oliver Lehmann). When you can score >90%, you are ready for the real exam. 4 stars out of 5.

  3. Too much emphasis placed on the Input, Tools & Techniques, and Output of the processes when there are not that many questions found on the actual test. These are important, but so are other areas. This book contains 3 sets of tests, 180 questions each. Some questions are repeated among the tests. Ironically, the answers for several are WRONG. This section needs some editing done to insure accuracy. Several places in the answers sections, it will say "Answer = A", then follow up with "B is the correct answer because...". There were also some questions that asked for two answers, such as A & C. The actual test does not ask for nor allow more than one answer per question. Overall it was a satisfactory help.

  4. I just passed the PMP exam after mostly preparing from this book and PMP in Depth. Of course all of us have to read the PMBOK Guide too; that's a given. I've found that the questions in this book are right on the mark: actually some questions in the exam were very similar to the questions in this book. I also liked the bonus features in the book: the Exam Tips and the Exam Quick Prep. The Exam Tips helped me to look at the questions in the real exam from the right angle and the Exam Quick Prep put me into the right mood just before the exam.
Overall, excellent tool to help you pass the PMP exam; highly recommended.

  5. The price point for this book is ok in terms of the questions provided. As other reviewers noted, the questions in this book do not cover the kind of second-order situational types that you would expect on the exam. The questions are also grouped on the exams more or less by process area making it difficult to take a subset of the exam and get a feel for your performance; as a result, you have to sit there for 2-4 hours and take the entire test to get a good read on results. I also agree with the earlier statements about typos. I did much worse on this practice exam than on the ones with Head First PMP but did very well on the exam itself, so I don't feel that these tests were as useful in preparing for the exam. If you're going to buy 1 book in addition to the PMBOK, this is not it. If you're buying several it may be worth considering as a supplement to something like Head First PMP.

  1. This is the book to study in preparation for the EIT exams.

  2. This book for the most part is good for studying and the problems cover many areas related to the exam. However, this is the 3rd edition for which an errata does not yet exist. Having been studying with this book for several weeks now, it is LITTERED with errors. I would NOT recommend buying this book until a full errata is available. Buy the 2nd edition and view the errata online. We spent hours trying to figure out problems that were done incorrectly. Units don't work out, wrong numbers used, etc. Big time waster and it is hard to have confidence in learning from this book when it has this many errors.

  3. Well written, questions are similar in scope and difficulty to actual FE exam questions. Does not cover discipline specific exam questions (civil, mechanical, etc.) No actual practice tests, but good questions and solutions.

  4. I've been out of school for ever. I studied for 6 months and failed. I changed my studying strategy after that. Instead of going back and studying the subjects from ground-up, I did almost all of the practice problems in this book twice! Except for differential equations (skipped that section entirely). I think you still need the ground-up knowledge but don't over do it if you've been out of school for a while. Get this book and work problem after problem. Most of the questions on the exam didn't scare me because they were very similar to the problems in this book. Now I'm moving on to the P.E.!

Con: I'm not the sharpest guy by far but I did find some errors in the book which were not published. So I'm sure there are more that I didn't find.

Pro: It's about half the size of the FE Review Manual, Rapid Preperation for the General Exam 2nd Edition, so you can take it with you anywhere.

I also recommend the above mentioned review manual and the FE/EIT Sample Exam, 2nd Edition. These three books got me through the exam.
I used the HP33s and just programmed the vectors, which helped me out with a couple of questions. (every point counts!) The only other thing useful was the statistics which is already pre-programmed.

    Good Luck!!!
