5 comments about The Long-term Day Trader: Short-term Strategies to Boost Your Long-term Profits.
- THIS BOOK WAS NOT USEFULL TO ME. IF YOU DON'T ALREADY KNOW THE BEGINERS INFORMATION IN THIS BOOK, YOU HAVE A LONG WAY TO GO.
- This book is mainly for beginners, and offers a good introduction into investing.
- This the type of book that benefits one early in one's trading process and merits re-reads after more experience. While there is very little from the technical point of view, the practical, "real world" advise rings very clear. People often buy books that are too complicated for their current level of understanding. Accordingly, they acquire more "knowledge" but not more understanding. Confusion can lead to a lot of lost money in trading. Thankfully, this is not such a book. It deserves a permanent place on the traders and investor's bookshelf.
- The worst trading book I ever purchased. The book is full of catch phrases and waffles page after page. Example: more than 100 pages of advice such as:
Don't trade scared (1 full page) Be patient (1 full page) Trade like a robot, wothout emotion (1 full page) Always have a profit goal (1 full page) etcetera The book does not show any examples of successfully backtested strategies. Better go for "Trade like a Hedge Fund" from J Altucher.
- This book is a real gem for beginners, it gives lots of great tips without the egotistical mumbo jumbo.

1 comments about Investing in Closed-end Funds: Finding Value & Building Wealth.
- This IS the definitive work on the arcane world of closed-end fund (CEF) investing. CEFs provide an excellent method to target particular investment sectors -- especially international markets and fixed income. I like using CEFs for part of the fixed income component of an investment portfolio. When properly managed, they will enhance your dividend yield and supply capital appreciation potential. CEFs can provide greater yields by deriving dividends from portfolio assets at net asset value (NAV), but pay them based on the share's market price -- which can be at a discount to NAV. Simply put, you can buy dividends on $10 worth of assets for only $9. The investor (or their advisor) must, however, monitor the CEF's discount to premium spread versus NAV on a regular basis. CEFs can be tricky. I recommend all new CEF investors start out with this book -- it's a little dated -- but the principles remain true. Note Steven Samuels' advice: Never buy a CEF on the IPO -- and I would add, never buy one at a premium.

1 comments about Implementing Information Security Based on ISO 27001 and ISO 17799: A Management Guide (Best Practice).
- It's a book for very, very beginners. The informations are well described, but as for the shortage of the book itself, there is not too much to learn from this book. It is only for a first contact with the subject.
A reading from Interantional standards (270001, etc.) is more useful and not too much difficult.
On the web you can find more useful informations.

4 comments about Channel Surfing: Riding the Waves of Channels to Profitable Trading.
- I almost didn't look at it, but I am sure glad I did! This book is packed with a lot of great stuff for technical traders, particularly for the price. The method turned out to be really good and my trading results so far show it. I really liked this book and it was very enjoyable to read as well. If you prefer computer indicators then this book will probably not suit you, but if you like trading based on price movement then this is one you will definitely want to read.
- This book has more unique and practical applications of chart reading than many books on trading. Instead of regurgitating the same methods everyone knows, Mr. Parsons leaves the well beaten path and shows unconventional entry and exit methods. He also discusses why they work.
He does make it look easy, real time it is not that easy. Some of the examples look like they have the benefit of hind-sight.
The reader should already be familiar with money management techniques and some chart pattern basics.
This is not a book for Quant - types. Discretionary traders who trade patterns (not oscillators, indicators) will find some gold here.

- As a former floor trader and member of a major US trading exchange, I have seen a lot of trading books, courses, and gurus with crazy ideas. Very few of them work and make you money. And some of them only work for a while before market conditions change, and their approach stops working. Other ideas are too complicated to follow, with many rules and exceptions. Or you have to watch the markets all day as a day-trader. But this is definitely not the case with "Channel Surfing."
I have over 100 trading books in my library, and this ranks as one of my top 3. Any trader can follow the author's trading approach and have very high odds for success. I strongly recommend that every trader get this book, whether you are a beginner or a professional. This book is also great for anyone who just simply wants to know what to do with their investments in their IRA, 401K, or mutual fund.
It's so easy to "see the trees but miss the forest" when trying to trade the markets. It's hard to know whether you should get in or out of a position in the market. With this book, the author helps you to clearly and confidently see the market the way it should be seen. You see where the likely trend is for the future in almost any market. I did not observe any "curve-fitting" or phony charts in the book, just dozens of real-world examples that will convince any open-minded skeptic. And the principles in this book are timeless - they will always work. This book is a great bargain for the price and a must-buy. You will not be disappointed.
- One of the best books on channel trading I have ever read. By learning the techniques in this book you can be right over 80% of the time. Like in poker you can learn the market "tells", the trick is how strong are they. By using channel surfing you miss a lot of the head fakes the market throws at you. The author also sells excellent videos on the subject.

1 comments about This is Not Your Parents' Retirement: A Revolutionary Guide for a Revolutionary Generation.
- I think he really means grand parents, not parents. Or, then again, what he is really referring to is perhaps only a dream of what should have been. At any rate, the old story is going to work for a giant company, working your entire life for that same company, married (forever, no divorcing), 2.4 kids, retiring at 65 and kicked the bucket five years later.
Instead, my parents worked for the same company for 30 years, the company got sold, both companies had too many people and my father was out of a job in his late fifties. His company retirement plan was out the window. You had best plan for a life with some ups and downs like this. And Mr. Astre does an excellent job of presenting you with the options that exist in today's world. He talks about all the different kinds of investing, the implications of the IRS being your partner for life, basically he covers the classical approach to financial planning the will work for some people.
I particularly like his twelve 'Prosperity Points." These are things like protecting yourself from Lawsuits, Audit-Proofing your Tax Return. My only complaint would be that it doesn't go quite far enough. He needs a few more points. I'd suggest:
13. Divorce - If you're male, your savings, retirement, etc. get wiped out. If you're female, you don't get anything. Sound stupid, go talk to ten divoced people.
14. You plan to spend your retirement driving around the country in your motor home. Today oil is $67 a barrel. Suppose it goes to $200 and fuel is $10 a gallon, do you still like that motor home?
15. Retirement is fun. Nursing homes for the last few weeks/months/years are not, and they are very expensive.
16. Can you retire? I can't. I started my own business and work 50-60 hours a week, but then take off 3-4 months a year. I haven't touched savings.

5 comments about Fundamentals of Hedge Fund Investing: A Professional Investor's Guide.
- Contains same facts as other hedge fund books, but seems to be outdated. Little info on recent trends in industry.
- Not bad for a someone on the street, however, it has very limited use for a professional. Contains a lot of repeats (and I mean a lot of). Would not recommend if a professional insight to hedge funds is being searched for. The book would be useful for those who are completely hedge fund illiterate or just curious what a hedge fund is.
- Little information other than extremely general data on historic returns. One of the few investment books I have ever read that I did not find something useful to remember.
- Even though this book is 3 years old, it still serves as a very good primer to the hedge fund industry. Anyone wishing to gain a fundamental understanding of how hedge funds work and how they can be used will find the book easy to read. A lot of details are covered; e.g., a discussion about hedge fund indexes. Even for a professional like myself, I find the book to be a good reference every time I forget a concept or two.
- I am lucky enough to have Mr. Crerend as one of my closest friends both inside and outside of the workplace. His book is a good one, especially for the new investor who is looking for advice and guidance from someone with years of experience in the field. Mr. Crerend has a unique point of view that makes his book a great one, and also made him successful.

1 comments about Physical Asset Management for the Executive: Don't Read This If You Are On an Airplane.
- Was hoping for a text that would provide executive management a concise explanation of asset reliability, it's value to an organization, and their role in leading improvement. This book is just a patch work quilt of blah blah that could have been compiled from any of a thousand texts. Here's the recipe. Start with a generous portion of the tired old airlines stories and other disaster case studies, add a sprinkling of predictive maintenance, then toss in the failure curve graphs, some elementary reliability prediction equations, and a little MTBF and MTTR for good measure. Still looking for the book for executive management.

5 comments about Getting Rich Is Easy: The Master's Guide to Real Estate Acquisition.
- I read this book and liked it a lot. I was surprised to find that it was not only very engaging and easy to read (it's like having a conversation personally with the author) but was helpful. I've been in real estate for a few years and thought I knew everything there was to know but found some really great tips on real estate buying. I especially liked the chapters on repairing your credit and choosing the right investment. The book also comes with a disc for a Performa which is an added bonus. Whether you are thinking about getting into real estate, a beginner or experienced in real estate transactions, I would highly recommend a copy of this book to keep you on track.
- The unspoken subtitle of "Getting Rich Is Easy" is "...when you know what you're doing." Herb Strather knows what he's doing, and has a 20-plus year history of successful real estate investment to prove it. Fortunately, he is more than happy to share a lot of what he knows. "Getting Rich..." is a concise and information-packed book which explains some complex real estate concepts, including financing issues, in understandable everyday language. I appreciate the book's step-by-step approach to the real estate investment process, beginning with a self-appraisal which helps the reader to decide whether in fact a real estate investment career is right for them.
- This book was a culmination of me taking his intense classes. The classes gave us a glimpse into the mind of a Real Estate genius. The way
he calculates numbers, makes million dollar decision without hesitation is amazing. So when I got the book I was not sure, but it gave me the
basics of what I need to do each and every day to Get Rich in Real Estate.
The book gives you a roadmap to success, so if you are interested in going to the next level in Real Estate, Getting Rich is Easy should be a book in your library. Mr. Strathers shows how the ordinary man or woman can obtain extraordinary wealth in a relatively short time.
- Herb Strathers version of how to succeed in real estate blew me away.First of all it's an easy read, broke down in laymen terms. It informs you of the necessary steps to take from getting started to acquiring multiple properties.Even if you don't know or understand the real estate terminology you will after you read this book.It even comes with proforma cd-rom so you can better access you future purchase.Fantastic read I highly recommend it.
- that it really shows you how to structure the deal in commercial real estate. I was surprised to learn that it's common practice to make your money when you buy a property, not when you sell.
I would highly recommend this book if you are looking to get into commercial real estate.
