5 comments about The First Book of Investing, Fully Revised 3rd Edition: The Absolute Beginner's Guide to Building Wealth Safely.
- If mutual funds, stock options, and equities make your head spin, this book is for you. Case has written a book that is easy to read and understand yet remains information packed. Even after finishing the book, it makes an excellent reference. The first section is a logically organized tutorial into the wide world of investing. What I really like about this book is that it overlooks no investment. As a high school student short on cash, it was refreshing to read about how I can begin investing with as little as $50. The only problem I have with the book is Chapter 12 "Socially Responsible Investing." Case continually uses nuclear power as a market example that is not socially responsible. This is not totally accurate. The reason socially responsible funds don't invest in nuclear power is because often time by investing in nuclear power you also invest in fossil fuel utilities as well. Besdies Case's cynicism in Chapter 12, I loved this book.
- This book is 3 years old now as of this review I write, if it was up to date Id give it 5 stars...it still has LOTS of relevent and important information for today and tomorrow because the fact of the matter is is that the rules will always be the same for SMART and SAFE investing found in this book. There are many excellent resources and websites listed too that really help...if you are fed up living paycheck to paycheck, get going with this and take charge of your life...or would you rather live a life you always complain about that??
- The first book of Investing the fully revised 3rd edition. The Absolute beginner's guide to building weath safley. This book explains a beginners path toward building weath a finacial freedom. The book provides its readers with easy to read fact boxes that encourage readers to keep reading. This books target audience should be teens and young adults. The reading is relitvily easy and descriptive. I encourage anyone who wants to learn more about professions in stock broking or just anyone who wants to learn about the general financial world to read this book.
- This book was great for laying out the basics of investing. Topics covered range from the safe staples like government bonds to risky speculations like futures and included less common investment ideas including rare coins and owning businesses. Each topic is presented simply but thoroughly in a style that isn't too technical and is encouraging towards first-time investors and women. Real-life examples are given for harder-to-understand investment concepts. The math involved is explained fully (though sometimes too thoroughly for those who are not completely math-challenged). As the title states, this book won't give you strategies to get-rich-quick or be able to pick the right stocks. What it will give you is a fairly objective guide to the investing world and the risks and rewards involved in different investment strategies as well as a "Model Portfolio." Not all the sections were applicable to me, but they were good references nonetheless. The only drawbacks I found were a skimpy and slightly out-of-date "Online Investment" section which was basically a click-by-click account of how to use the finance section of AOL (which may be helpful for some but not me), and occasional cheesy humor (which was forgivable). I didn't realize how much I had learned from this book until I found myself explaining to a coworker why her junk bond mutual fund was relatively riskier and more volatile. Overall, the book felt like a trustworthy, objective source for responsible investing.
- All I can say about this book is WOW!! Because too often when you read material pertaining to investing, it throws so much unfamiliar jargon and concepts at you. Too many sources assume you know the basics about investing.
This book makes no such assumptions. I've learned so much already, and I've only read half the book.
The only drawbacks as far as I can tell: #1-The book spends a lot of time in the beginning going into detail about what to do if you come into an inheritance. Only a few people out there fall into this category, and the author could have cut out a lot of this discussion, since it only pertains to a few. #2-There was nothing mentioned about IRA's, which I think are a popular investment option. It would have been nice if IRA's could have been covered.

5 comments about How To Become a Real-Time Commodity Futures Trader - From Home : Living the Ultimate Entrepreneurial Dream.
- Why do I recommend this book so highly? My ever-growing trading account has something to do with it! This is no joke folks. The detailed knowledge presented in the pages of Scott's book has ultimately translated into significant trading profits for me, often on a daily basis. And I have definitely "paid my dues" as a trader so I know what I am talking about. I had been trying to trade successfully (both daytrading and position trading) for almost three years, and during that time I acquired a library of about 45 trading books. I learned a bit here and there, but ultimately they didn't help make me any money at all (and often to the contrary, I lost a great deal trying to follow their poor directions in the rough, no nonsense, real world of trading). It got to a point where I thought I could never succeed at the "dream" of being an independent trader at home.
Well, I can happily tell you that UNLIKE any of those other books, Scott's is overflowing with the real, practical "How To's" of trading (from A to Z, just like it says), and it actually shows you how to make serious money at this. It turned my trading around 180 degrees to the plus side! Finally! To be a successful trader you really do need knowledge (just like Scott says) and this book has it in spades. It is also extremely easy reading, even when it gets very technical. It's amazing how it actually turns you into a successful chart analyst without your even realizing it. Bottom line is it works! But don't just take my word for it. Check out all the other trader and professional reviews of the book at Amazon and at the book's own web site, and then just get it! Sorry this review was so long people, but I am very excited about all this, and if I can help you to shortcut all the useless time, frustration and loss of money that I went through then it is all worth it, right? Go for it and Happy New Year!!
- This book is a glorified sales pitch for Mr. Kriegers analysis tools. It falls way short of being a how to guide. While his writing is good and the information is helpful, it stops at the most critical point...How To! The book should be priced at $19.95 based on the infomation provided and that they hope to make money on the other end as well. The information can be found elsewhere and you won't feel fleeced when your done.
- If this will be your first book on commodity trading, it's a fair introduction. However, if you've read anything before, then save your money and invest it in a real-time system.
- This book only covers the very basic information needed. And all of the info he gives you in this book is free on the internet. He hypes excellent results from his system but that is another purchase, a very expensive software purchase. It boils down to this...you are paying him for an advertisment to buy more of his product.
- Krieger has managed to pack into this book (he calls it a "guidebook" and I see why) everything from incredibly accurate day trading reversal techniques (using heretofore unexamined uses of WD Gann's genius), to detailed analysis of the amazing Keltner Channel, in which the price bars predictably move day after week after month (a true leading indicator). And this is just a tiny portion of the very practical and profitable technical analysis techniques thoroughly discussed throughout the book. It also goes into the most fascinating discussion of the natural forces which underlie the markets and how you can use them. It also details excellent money management and risk management methods, and has the most comprehensive overview of the entire business I have read. And it really does show how to trade as a business and not a gamble, which is of critical importance to our consistent success as traders. An entire chapter details how to best deal with news and government reports. The list goes on and on. It is, in a word, Practical. Although I think you have to be an actual trader to really appreciate just how good and useful this book is, it does start from a beginner's perspective. This book gets my highest recommendation. A brilliant work!

3 comments about Creating the Ultimate Lean Office: A Zero-Waste Environment with Process Automation.
- The techniques discussed in the book were not about trying to apply lean shop floor techniques to the office but rather about applying lean office techniques to the office to fully eliminate the 13 forms of waste found in the office. This work opens a whole new dimension of what can be accomplished especially when applying the current computer system to automate the newly created lean office processes. This book will become "the classic" in regards to creating a lean office well beyond anything else out there.
E Landau
- Excellent book!! It reflects the 13 forms of waste commonly found in the office, and a definition of waste that pertains specifically to the office. It is then backed by team-based techniques designed to eliminate the waste creating lean processes, which are then automated utilizing the existing software. Well written, easy to understand, and designed specifically for the office.
A. Dufresne
Lean Office Project Manager
- This book opens a whole new powerful path to creating a lean office. It
is not about trying to manipulate and adapt shop floor techniques to the
office but rather about a simplistic team based approach in creating
lean processes. The methods keep lean simple and straightforward. If I
had to pick only one book on the subject of creating a lean office this
would be the book, it is a great addition to my ready references!

5 comments about Creating a Business Plan: Your Dream Concept Made Real.
- I started a business about a year ago, and things were going well. There was just one problem, when I wanted to expand ie: get a loan, I didn't have a business plan. I needed something to give me clarity and help me organize my thoughts so that I could present them to a bank. After trying several online business plan guides I found this book. The instruction is clear, and after completing it, I actually understood what went into my plan. A great buy!
- Mr. Kerner helps the reader, in a simple step-by-step approach, to address those items that must be included in an effective business plan. He leads you through the process so gently that before you know it, the plan is done and ready to open doors for new entrepreneurs everywhere. I particularly like the fact that Mr. Kerner has successfully started businesses, and provides us with the tools he would have liked available himself.
- I wish I had read this book sooner, maybe I would have opened my own business! This book takes you into the most mysterious thing about opening a small business - the business plan. I always heard that banks wanted them, but I had never seen one. Now, by reading this book, I not only saw one, but I saw it in action. This book has great tips, humor, and a knack for talking in a way that non-business majors can understand. Read it and see just how you too can get rolling on your dreams!
- Thanks to Mr. Kerner's work I finally feel as if my dream concepts can be made real! For me the business world has always been rather daunting, never knowing where or how to begin. Yet, the clear, step-by-step approach laid out in this book is effective in breaking it all down. It's clear Mr. Kerner wants to help you succeed, and his humor throughout the pages helps to make the process of creating a business plan much more enjoyable! Highly recommended, this book is written for people like you and me!
- Let's face it, starting your own business is difficult. When I came up the idea for my own small business, I was consumed with the details of the business- not the business plan. This book as helped walk me through the in's and out's of my business plan, and ultimately, helped land me a loan from my bank. Thanks for keeping it simple!

2 comments about Public Speaking Success - Increase Your Speaking Power with these Effective Techniques (Audio Success Suite).
- I was so interested in the title of a CD program, PUBLIC
SPEAKING SUCCESS, that I made it a point to both get and
listen to it as quickly as I could.
The fact that it featured four top speakers was an added
attraction . . . Nido Qubein, Ron White, Brian Tracy, and
Chris Widener, each had much to say about their
respective topics, and their comments would be of value
to virtually any speaker:
Qubein in "How to Communicate Like a Pro" noted:
* Communication doesn't take place until you have the complete
attention of your audience.
* The first thing I do is get an audience into the act.
* Always find out what turns on your audience and let your dialogue
focus on that interest.
* Ask questions to involve the listener.
White in "Speeches from Memory" commented:
* I use the entire stage as my podium. This adds energy to my
presentation.
* When you can give a speech without notes, your credibility is
going to go up.
Tracy (rapidly becoming one of my favorites) in "Communication--The
Master Skill to Powerful Relationships" said:
* When you have small children, you speak to them at their level.
* The more the person is talking about themselves, the more
they'll like you.
* Treat the members of your family like you treat your best customers.
* Men are 95% more likely to interrupt a woman than a woman is
to interrupt a man.
* If you can paraphrase what the person said, that's real listening.
Lastly, Widener in "Communication Skills to Influence and Persuade"
observed:
* When you master your skills, you're going to have better relationships.
* The problem with being a good speaker is that you still need
to get better.
- I listen to a lot of CDs for motivation and to enhance my learning. This CD was definitely below standard. I listened to the first half an hour which was a very boring promotional for the set--I kept thinking, I already BOUGHT it, you don't have to convince me this is a great product, you already have my money! I stuck it out for another 15 minutes after that and gave up. I don't know if I am even going to bother finish listening to it.
