5 comments about Superlearning 2000: New Triple Fast Ways You Can Learn, Earn, and Succeed in the 21st Century.
  1. Before reading this review I will give you some idea of my background so you can judge my review on the basis of my experience. I am a multilingual language teacher and writer with a keen interest in accelerated learning techniques, and have been such for several years. I first became interested in Superlearning several years ago as a possible method for increaing both my own language learning rate, which is considerable, and that of my students. Superleaning looked like something really new and innovative, and, having read the original Superlearning book, I decided to buy several Superlearning products from their website, including the audio course, special learning cassettes and a language course produced by the authors and based on the exact procedures laid out in their books. I wanted to be sure I was doing it properly. I also wish to point out that the products are not cheap by any means, well, not in price anyway. In terms of quality of the materials, recording and presentatiom, I have never encountered anything so cheap and shoddy!

Five years later, and after even more extensive research and experimentation with the system, both personally and in my classes, I can only say that almost all of this system is a sham. It doesn't work. I used a language course produce by them, and found no benefit whatsoever in it. The only benefit I got was to use the course, which I would also like to point out is nothing more than 3 tapes and a very thin and cheaply produced pamphlet of words and phrases and, on occasion the recording did not match the transcript, was to use the tapes without the highly distracting breathing exercises and do it the old-fashioned way. I made my own tapes too, as per the instructiosn in the course, which was a vastly time-consuming process, and had the same lack of result as the "professionally" produced languages tapes by the authors themselves!

There is no doubt that proper relaxation, relaxed breathing, positive suggestions and classical music can have varying degrees of benefit on the students, but the method you will find in ALL the books and programmes produced by Superlearning leaves a great deal to be desired!

I was interested by another reviewer's reference to a researcher from Monash univerity and her work into Lozanov and Superlearning. As I don't think a text link is allowed ina review, you might like to do a web search for "The personal website of Uschi Felix" at Monash University for a lot more information about Superleaning and the validity of some of the claims made before you are tempted to part with your hard earned and get a disappointment.

Having tried to contact Superlearning with questions and complaints, I can only attribute the lack of service and, indeed, acknowledgement I encountered to the fact that they must get a lot of commenst from some very dissatisfied people! I urge you not to buy into this scam. You are being taken for a ride.

To those reviewers who are getting so excited by the promises in the Superlearning products, all I can say is try it and see. Remember - I was just like you a few years ago!

  2. I decided to pick up this book for the second time. I had
earmarked so many pages in it the first time a year ago.
The amount of great information in this book is amazing! Most people will find something in it to improve
some aspect of their life. This is one of those books that's
hard to put down. Buy it and begin a whole new process of learning. You'll be glad you did...

  3. I read this book when it was first published, and was inspired to try the techniques. I have returned to it many times since then for further inspiration. It is really sad to read reviews declaring that Superlearning is a scam; I would suggest that any tool - and Superlearning is surely no more than a tool - is only as good as the person using it. Or perhaps only as good as their expectations - and their intentions. For myself, I have used the techniques to radically change the way young students learn - students who in fact, had been described as having significant "learning difficulties." They gleefully proved the pessimism wrong. As a mature university student, I tried the techniques on myself, and achieved very real success - in the 90 percentile for a linguistics paper, for example, on one third of the usual study time.
The book needs to be read with an open mind - and the techniques approached with no preconceptions. By all means be analytical - but that means analysing ALL possible reasons for any lack of success; it is so easy to unwittingly introduce variables. My vote is for Superlearning as a significantly empowering technique.

  4. You might like this book if your obsessed with this topic or your totally new to it. I would have to say that these ideas do work, but little is actually offered for the size of the book. For me this was very basic and boring. If your a successful learner you probably already do or at least know the general ideas here. If your having trouble learning or concentrating this could be of use but there's nothing in particular that would make me recommend it. I'm sure you can find a more exciting learning course, but if not it will work in a pinch.

  5. A must for anyone who wants to learn how to run their brain efficiently.

  1. 3 stars sounds like a bad review, I probably would have given it maybe 3.75 if that were an option. Anyways, the book (short at about 80 pages) starts out with a simple but concise / effective overview of how he explains the cycle of the market, i.e. stocks go up, stall, go down, stall, go back up...

I have not actually watched the DVD yet, but the book itself really only has one solid trading idea / setup. That's why I gave the book just less than 4 stars: it isn't filled with fluff really, but is pretty short on substance overall, you are better off probably reading it in a couple hours at the store.

  2. The book is more a hype than the advertised claims! It is not worth the money!

  3. One of the better Trading books that I have read. The included DVD is really helpful.

  4. If you have this book, you must also have Master Trader. The two go hand in hand. These two books are a must for your library.

5 comments about Project Management: A Systems Approach to Planning, Scheduling, and Controlling, 7th Edition.
  1. I had to use this book for a project management class. I can safely say that everyone taking the course dislikes this book. I could see this being used as a reference later on after one has a good foundation built in project management but as for someone looking to break in to the subject, without someone who is experienced in PMP standing over you explaining the confusing charts and graphs, this book would bore someone to the point that the rewards of project management aren't worth the torture of having to read this book.

  2. This Book is just a monolithic reference that I used for a class. Don't try and learn from it.

The PMP exam is not as hard as you think; yes it is high pressure, time wise. It has primarily 2 types of questions. 1 is memory recall. 2. Is testing your experience, that is to say how do you respond to a given situation, what is your rational or judgment? And every question is tied directly or indirectly to the PMBOOK. Read it Twice. I used The PMBOOK with a book written in narrative style chapter for chapter against the PMBOOK. It's called "Information Technology Project Management" by Kathy Schwalbe. It has some simple IT examples that most business people can understand after all Project Management is irrelevant to industry. And The Project Manager (person) is not. Also Parts of the book "Project Management: The Managerial Process" by Clifford F. Gray. For Scope, Time, Cost, and Risk. The cheapest and "good" situational questioner (with explanations and references to the PMBOOK) and memory jogger (two products) come from ESI international, do a search on the web for company info; the author is J. Leroy Ward. These two books again are mapped directly to the PMBOOK. Use your experience, Intuition and smarts to answer the questions. Memories all economic formulas. Sleep tight and then go do the exam

  3. The book deals with the PMI's PMBOK areas of focus in a very structured way. Definitely a useful tool for PMP exam. In addition the book is definite winner for any practioner of PM. A full detailed chapter on pricing and estimation .... not to mention another on management of conflicts in PM scenario. It also has a Chapter on Critical Chain Management which is very much the topic today. ALL ROUND WINNER.

  4. Okay, this book is long, and very dry reading material. Most individuals I've talked to buy it exclusively for the halo factor - having this book on their shelf makes them look like they understand the academics of project management.

I would never recommending reading the entire book, but it is an invaluable reference - the bible/koran/gita for project management in my view.

IF YOU'RE PREPARING FOR THE PMP EXAM.
I read the following chapters through at least once each which helped my comprehension of the subject matter immensely:
    - Organizational Structures
    - Management Functions
    - Conflicts
    - Quality
    - Procurement

  5. prototyping, is one of the most valuable tasks in each project (if possible), for manager and customer.
in this book there is no useful topic, discussing about prototyping, its usage and advantages, even types of prototyping!!

2 comments about Pension Dumping: The Reasons, the Wreckage, the Stakes for Wall Street.
  1. This is a great book! You need to read it whether you're already retired, thinking about retirement, or retiring in the far future. Lots of important info for all.

  2. Companies of various sorts have been breaking their promises to employees, firing them just before they vest, and cheating them out of pensions for about a century. My mother was one of them. Congress created the ERISA as a legal framework to protect pensions and the PBGC as an entity to be a watchdog on the way companies administer their defined benefit programs. Unfortunately, companies have found ways through the intentions of these laws to still dump their pension programs onto taxpayers (and other firms in their industry who remain "viable".

Fran Hawthorne first wrote about this issue in the early 1980s and recent events inspired her to return to it and write this helpful and informative book. If you are part of a defined benefit program, a business person who wonders about the ramifications of defined benefit versus defined contribution, or a member of the public just interested in this subject, I think this book would be quite interesting and helpful to you. She explains why and how investors, management, unions, and bankruptcy courts put so little emphasis on helping retirees over present workers. The basic idea is that keeping the company running in some form is usually better than closing it down. Even if it means hurting a lot of people who have worked a lifetime for the rewards promised to them.

    Good book.

5 comments about Economic Literacy: What Everyone Needs to Know About Money & Markets.
  1. I am a techy and joined workforce in 2000. I started sensing the bubble and the bust and was really insecure about what the world and job market would look like once all this is over. Realized I need to learn something about economics which until then I thought was a boring dry bunch of theories of no use.

Well this book changed my life, I joined MBA and got a whole new perspective towards life.

A must read for any novice.

  2. De Rooy easy to read commentary is simplistic yet thorough. I own the Idiot's Guide to Economics and Economics for Dummies, but these books do not compare with with Economic Literacy. I strongly urge this as a buy for anyone who wants to learn about the fascinating world of $$$.

  3. The economics course as taught in the classroom sometimes revolves around a lot of theory and leaves a poor connection to the real world. This book is the perfect bridge between theory as taught in college and the pragmatic side of the economy in the after-college world. If you are a business student (BBA or MBA),an entrepreneur or a simple citizen that wants to grasp the real deal of economics you should buy this book. After reading this book you will become a knowldegeable person in the practical side of economics with a broad view to make safe and sound arguments about economics with your professor, colleagues and friends. You might even impress them!

  4. I always thought that economics and fun dont go together very well, but the author of this book proved me wrong. By using real life examples as often as possible (and being as funny as possible), the author manages to produce one of the best written introductions (if not the best) about the subject.

  5. What an awesome book! I recently began reading this book and have already fallen in love with DeRooy's style. He is an expert in clarifying complex ideas. I am only a general reader with a thirst for knowledge and this book is certainly recommended to those like myself. If only Jacob DeRooy were proficient in other subjects that interest me; he would do some great writing that will help educate the ignorant.

5 comments about The Real Estate Fast Track: How to Create a $5,000 to $50,000 Per Month Real Estate Cash Flow (Creating Cash Flow Series).
  1. This is one of the best books about building a real estate business I have ever read. If you already have a few income producing properties then this is the book for you. There's a ton of books out there for people that want to start investing in Real Estate, but if you already own properties and want to learn more about building a real estate business that works so you don't have to then this is the book you need. I read the book cover to cover and it is a GREAT value, dollar for dollar you cannot get better information!

  2. Not worth the time reading. Get Rich quick ideas. Post signs and take over mortgage payments, lease options, etc

  3. This book essentially puts it out to get rich by looking for preforeclosures or distressed mortgages, getting a house on the cheap and having someone else pay for the mortgage. Overall a general good book to read and a must have for the real estate investor's library.

    PROS:
    1. Describes tried and true rental strategies.
    2. Describes flipping strategies.

    CONS:
    1. Advertisement about other seminars.

    OTHER SUGGESTED READING:
    1. Investing Without Losing (ISBN: 0978834607 NOT on amazn, on other stores)
Why? Learn how to buy properties below market value and flip it in a week.

  4. I find it hard to believe that any of these "strategies" would work. Hang up signs, assume mortgages, options... don't waste your time. I have read many books and this is probably the worst. It may offer some motivation, but the majority of these ideas are worthless!

  5. There are a couple of ideas in this book, which I would have eventually thought of myself. As a previous reviwer wrote this book is to sell you on the author's mentoring services. This guys are a parasite to cut into your profits. Don't waste your time or money on the book or the author's services.

5 comments about How to Make $1,000,000 in the Stock Market Automatically: (4th Edition).
  1. I've tried real money trades on dozens of
stocks using AIM. The profits were exceptional,
some reaching more than 300% in a six month period.

After spending 2 years testing literally hundreds of
trading systems using real money, I have now gone
back to AIM. It's definitely the best.

So enthused by Lichello's work, I created a new
algorithm based on AIM which is easier to use and
increases profits by 266% but maintains the same
level of safety. I have now gone on to use it with
more volatile, higher margin investment vehicles with
    results beyond my wildest dreams.

Thank you, Mr. Lichello. You have changed my life
    forever.

  2. After reading "How to Make $1,000,000 in the Stock Market Automatically" I put the system to use with a simulation portfolio from [...] using the $1,000,000 you get when signed up. The first year my portfolio returned 21% and after three years I am looking at a 10% average annual return. This is definetely the best investing book you can read. It takes the emotions of investing out of the equation, and if you have even the slightest bit of knowledge, or know nothing, about the market or investing, this book will show you a way to make money without putting forth too much effort. I recommend this book to anyone who is interested in investing for themselves instead of trusting those crook money-managers to do it for them and not showing any return.

  3. The formulas set forth in the book are very helpful and the book is easy to read. It is a good value for the money. I think the formulas would work well for a very conservative investor. The book also includes a formula for making periodic investments in mutual funds. I backtested the book's approach over the last ten years using the mutual funds in my 401(k) which are offered by American Funds. For most periods, the results were better for the book's approach than simple dollar cost averaging. Because the market is presently up significantly, the dollar cost average approach is currently ahead but the book's approach will be better if the market turns down.

  4. AIM works. In two years I have the numbers to prove it. Everyone should read this book. I use AIM for maintaining my accounts but I use "Rule One Investing" by Phil Towne for picking them. It is a winning combination. Good bye to the old 'buy and hold' method!

  5. When I first heard of this book, I thought it might just be another one of those overly hyped books. When I started to read it, within a few pages I realized this book contained some very valuable information. The more I read, the more impressed I was with the information that the author provided. The book provides a glimpse into what you need to do to become aware of your own investments. Sometimes it may come as a shock, which helps as that will provide the impetus to do something about your money. The author has a truly unique approach to how to buy and sell. It us not your usual method, but a very interesting and different methodology. One cannot help but be thankful for having purchased and/or read this book. This is, in my opinion a very important book for anyone and everyone investing their money in the stock markets and mutual funds. You will be glad you got this gem.

5 comments about The Champion Real Estate Team: A Proven Plan for Executing High Performance and Increasing Profits.
  1. I was so impressed with this book I ordered one for my Broker. It is clearly written, factual and has a real plan that I believe can help you develop a Great real estate team. This is for Brokers and agents - oh by the way there is also a book titled the Champion Real Estate Agent. It is equally helpful and should be on every real estate person's reading list. The Champion Real Estate Agent

  2. Dirk Zeller is one of the few who really understands the business of real estate and what it takes to be a top agent. This book follows on from his greatest work "The Champion Real Estate Agent" and outlines a blue print for and how to build a team - not just any team. A Champion team. His writing style is clear, incisive and he pulls no punches and tells it - like it is. Lots of great advice from someone who has been in the trenches and knows what it takes and needed to be great at this business. A great read and I look forward to implementing what he has written. Zeller has provided the blue print - the point is to now go and make it happen everyday.

  3. Thanks so much for this book! It has really helped me get my team back up and running after taking a break in management. I learned from the first page to change some of the things I had been doing and have used it as a workbook in setting up systems and my business plan for the new year as I re-grow my team.

  4. Can I tell you how many SELF HELP, BUSINESS SPECIFIC, HOW-TO types of books on my shelves need dusting? and then arrived Dirk Zellers newest ACE; The Champion Real Estate Team. WOW! Emphatically I encourage other highly motivated,"out of the box thinkers", entrepreunerial spirits and WINNERS to grab this book and devour it, cover to cover! Well written, articulate and direct; I am so glad that my GUT instinct on this one was right. Dirk's 20 plus years of heavily trodden roads to Real Estate Success is not just depicted in stories; rather here is a real, meaty, hands on STEP by STEP instructions for team building success. I have personally spent the bulk of this year building my team, this is the "icing on the cake" that I needed; I am eager to begin implementing much of what he has taught. I have been "planting seeds" for two years now with modest seedlings; I expect 2008 will begin a strong harvest and I am so excited. THANKS Dirk!

  5. I found the book to be well thought out. It definitely gives you a lot to consider up front went building a Team and could save you considerable time and headaches later.

5 comments about Successful Meetings: How to Plan, Prepare, and E Top-Notch Business Meetings.
  1. Change is difficult. Much as we love new ideas and new technology, changing to respond to innovations, competitive threats and opportunities is often seen as an arduous process. People who can manage change are leaders who command respect and admiration within their organizations.

Meetings are a key part of managing change. Whether you are brainstorming, planning or presenting results, more often than not you will be doing it in a meeting as part of a group process. Understanding what makes a meeting a success will help you create vibrant, productive forums where you can achieve common objectives.

"Successful Meetings" teaches you the art of creating a successful meeting. Whether it's arranging the room, inviting the right people or using the right technology, Shri Henkel takes you step-by-step through the process of running any type of meeting and provides valuable insights along the way. If your meetings aren't motivating, or worse yet, if they are "good enough", you need this book. Read it and your commitment to excellence will be well rewarded.

  2. Shri Henkel's SUCCESSFUL MEETINGS: HOW TO PLAN, PREPARE, AND EXECUTE TOP-NOTCH BUSINESS MEETINGS provides an easy to read book on the entire planning process, from budgeting and using time and money more effectively to setting an agenda, meeting goals, and evaluating both participants and objectives. Chapters will keep business leaders on track as they outline proven, effective methods for starting and conducting a meeting and survey common pitfalls to success.

  3. Meetings have to rank as one of the most loathed activities in modern corporate life. While the idea of coming together as a group to collectively solve problems or brainstorm new ideas sounds good, poor planning and management too often leads to fuzzy, disorganized sessions in stuffy conference rooms. In surveys, 90% of respondents admit to daydreaming during meetings, almost 75% say they have sometimes brought other work, and 9% say they have fallen asleep.

Shri Henkel believes she knows how to change all that. Her book, Successful Meetings: How to Plan, Prepare and Execute Top-Notch Business Meetings, is a great step-by-step guide running meetings that produce results. Rather than begin from the premise that all meetings are necessary, Henkel starts out by suggesting that the reader ask themselves a very basic question: is this meeting really necessary? Could these issues be tackled in a different way? She even suggests costing the meeting out, so the reader can see how much money a meeting will consume in staff salary, equipment costs, and of course, snacks.

Once you've determined that a meeting is necessary, Henkel has a wide variety of ideas on how to set agendas and keep to it, how to encourage active participation among staff, how to capture ideas for later use, and how to receive feedback so the next meeting is even better. An entire chapter is devoted to feel-good "team building" exercises designed to open up communications and get the thoughts flowing. All in all, this would be a great book for any middle or upper-level manager looking to run their meetings more effectively.

  4. Shri Henkel has done an outstanding job on this book. It is interesting and fun to read and will be interesting and fun to execute her wonderful ideas. Invaluable to the successful business person!

  5. I'll say right up front I HATE meetings more than Dilbert. But I have to organize lots of them for my job. Sometimes involving people in different offices or across the state. Some of this book is just common sense - I've already tried some of the strategies on my boss with suggesting teleconferences or just dealing with it by email. But sometimes it's still not enough and he makes me go ahead with the meeting. And that's where this book really came in handy - learning how to set the ground rules, learning how to end them to reach consensus - and how to evaluate the meeting. All of the small details that don't really get thought about much.
