- I purchased a euphonium from this company, and the valves are useless and do not even move. Don't waste your money on this garbage.

- this was the worst piece of junk that i have ever purchased over the internet
- This trumpet looks nice, and the notes are easy to reach--IF the valves worked! No amount of valve oil makes them glide. I have to pull them up with my fingers between almost every note--and that doesn't make for very fast trumpet-playing! I think it's a nice beginner instrument if one could get the valves to work! Otherwise, I wouldn't recommend it!
One other thing of note is that the case is poorly made. The trumpet moves freely inside the case when it is closed, and the the first time I opened it, the 1/16th inch thick valour inside lining of the case was cracked to reveal the white stirofoam underneath.
I ended up buying an Amati pocket trumpet to replace it, and it works (and looks) beautiful! And the case inside is actually shaped to the horn and has a plush lining!
- The product I purchased is Cecilio Gold Plated Bb Pocket Trumpet and the valves are sticking badly. I have 4 other trumpets and I have very good results with oiling them but this one still sticks after oiling it a number of times. I waited too long to return it but I am very unhappy with it. - I read the terrible reviews about the sticky valves before I bought this trumpet. That seems to be the major complaint with this horn. I bought one anyway because I felt that I could deal with sticky valves. I was right.
If you buy this trumpet it will most likely come with sticky valves. Mine certainly did, and trying to just oil them from the top as it says in the instruction did not help at all.
However, I didn't stop there. I took the valves completely out of the trumpet (being careful to keep them in order as they say that can not be interchanged in the holes). Then I took all of the bottom caps out. Everything unscrewed very nicely. I actually took all four of the tuning slides out and too and I blew the whole thing out with air. I'm not sure if that was necessary but I'll just include everything I did. I blew it out with air to assure that no dirt or debris from manufacturing might be in there. I also blew off the valves one at a time.
Then, taking one valve at a time, I oiled them liberally, and placed them into their hole, first from the top where they belong I spun them around a lot as I slid them into the whole being careful not to catch or break the little plastic key that lines them up. Take care when you take the valves out to notice this white alignment key, it's slightly bigger on the end that goes into the alignment slot. You can see the alignment slot when you look down into the valve hole.
I could feel the valve freeing up as I spun it around in its hole and shoved it in and out. After it freed up I removed it and did the same thing inserting it into the bottom of the hole. This is necessary to keep it from sticking at the very bottom of the stroke.
You can feel the valve freeing up as you do this. Once the valve is freed up you can reinsert it into the its hole properly and put the screw the top and bottom caps back on being careful to start their threads properly.
Once I did that will all three valves it works just fine. They just needed to be "worked in" a bit, and that can't really be done very well without removing them completely in the manner I described above.
This should only need to be done once when the trumpet is brand new. After that it should just require normal oiling from the top without having to remove the valves completely.
Other than this sticky valve problem I don't see anything wrong with this trumpet. It seems to be made very well actually. The valves are well-machined, they just weren't worked in properly before it was shipped out. All the tuning slides on mine fit perfectly and stay put. The horn is nice and hefty, it doesn't feel like a lightweight toy. I have to rate it at 5 stars for the price! Where are you going to buy a trumpet this nice for this price? So it takes a little effort to clean it up when you first get it. It's well worth the savings. Once the valves are freed up I see nothing wrong with this horn.
Someone mention the case was ripped revealing the Styrofoam molding. Mine was too, but I couldn't care less about that, for this price I'd buy it without a case at all. I think the case is pretty sturdy overall actually.
So it's not for the faint-hearted. You're not likely to play this thing right out of the box. You'll have to take the valves out and "break them in" from both the top and the bottom of the valve holes. But once you do that you should have a nice horn. They seem to be machined very well. They just weren't properly broken-in at the factory is all.
Just be sure to keep track of which valve goes in which hole. Remove only one at a time to be sure. I removed them all because I wanted to blow it all out without worrying about dirt being blown into an adjacent valve. Also take special care to look at the plastic line-up tabs, they are are the bottom of the spring. On side is slightly larger than the other side. The slightly larger is the one that goes into the line-up notch. You can feel it "lock-in" the notch if you twist the valve back and forth a little bit as you lower it into it's hole.
At least that's how it worked out for me. I'm totally happy with my trumpet. I would expect to do some maintenance work on any instrument this inexpensive. All I can say is that I took a chance on it and it worked out for me. I give it five stars (because of the price). You can't go wrong at this price, if you are willing to "work-in' the valves or you know someone who will do it for you. It didn't take long to do this, it was just a matter of minutes and no tools were used (except for the compressed air to blow it out, and I'm not sure if that was even necessary).
