  1. The same German made quality that Hohner has delivered for many decades. This is the same model I played as a teen 30 years ago. It is fun, clear, and crisp. I did try a few knock-offs, and they did not last, nor deliver that crisp, clean, and loud sound that Hohner is famous for. Until these are out-sourced to china along with the rest of products sold in the US, they should continue to deliver quality sound. If they are good enough for Bob Dylan, they are good enough for any of us!

  2. I've been playing since I was a kid and like these best. I've tried many brands and materials. I,along with many friends and pro players, prefer these to any other.

  1. I love the sound I can get from the old MB but my biggest problem is that it isn't the most durable for a long time of play. For one thing it isn't made to be taken apart to be cleaned. If you get too gunked up or get a stuck reed you are basically out of luck. Also, the wood comb isn't the most air tight comb out there. For my money the Hohner Special 20 is a better buy. It's about $5-10 more depending where you look but being able to take it apart will allow you to enjoy it longer.

  2. WOW, Ive Gotten all kinds of harps, Blues Harps, Special 20s, Lee Oskars, and Golden Melodies. I NEVER purchased a Mraine Band becasue Ive read bad reviews about it online. I just got one and am surprisingly pleased with it! I like it better than my plastic combed Special 20s!!! The Sound is AMAZING the ease of bending is AMAZING. I also compared the size to the Lee Oskars and it is smaller, it look to be the same size as a special 20 but it FEELS so much smaller in your hand which allows for great hand effects. If you are a prospective harp buyer and youve heard negative reviews like me about the dowsides of the Marine Band, i urge you to TRY IT and i think you will really enjoy playing it. I havent had problems with the wood swelling yet, but I Dont think that will be a big deal even if it does happen. Give the MB a try.

  3. The Marine Band is the quintessential harmonica. It is the classic choice among blues and rock musicians. The great thing about this harmonica is that it is also perfect for beginners. It is easy to play and has a beautiful sound. It is extremely made and durable. This one will last a long time- plus Hohner stands behind their products!
Bottom line- if you are going to buy a harmonica then this is the one. It's affordable, well made and sounds great! This IS the best harmonica for your money.

  4. This is the third type I have purchased so far, the other two being the Hohner Special 20's and Lee Oskar Major Diatonic. As far as quality, warmth, looks, and appeal, this harmonica beats them all hands down in every category! My favorite thing about this harmonica is the classic wooden comb, giving it a much more rich, folky, Bob Dylan-esque tone (which is what I was going for). I find bending and overblowing much easier on this harmonica as well although that is not what I bought this harmonica for.

There is a reason that this is the most storied and popular harmonica of all time. It truly has made me a believer. As for some future purchases to look into, if this is indeed the type of harmonica you are looking for, check out the new line of wooden combed harmonicas made by Suzuki, the Fire Breath and Pure Harp. I have a Fire Breath on its way and can't wait to compare the two!

All in all, this purchase taught me that the wooden comb might be what I was looking for to get that warm, thick, rich tone (as opposed to a metal or plastic cob which will give you a more bluesy, sharp tone). If you are just starting out like I am, go out and purchase different harmonica makes and models when you need a new key. It lets you see what's out there in finding the sound that most appeals to you and the process is so much fun! It's like opening a new pack of baseball cards every time!

I hope this review helped! I wish you all success with your harp playing!

  1. The title of my review says it all. The Hohner harmonica holder was the first one I ever purchased, and it performed fantastically. Due to the wide angle of the neck brace and the plastic tube covering it, I never had a single problem with the holder moving and sliding around my neck. My only complaint is that, after a few months of heavy use, the two small pivots that was moved into place to keep the harmonica from falling out began to loosen. A month later, and they were entirely useless, leaving the harmonica free to fall out. This was so bad that I opted to by a new holder (the one by Lee Oskar, which also has issues -- in particular, it slides around my neck way too much). Still, I'd have to recommend the Lee Oskar holder for those starting out. If Hohner changes the hinge design on this, it'll be hands-down the best harmonica holder out there.

  2. I bought two of thes holders--both of them did not hold the ten hole harmonica for even a second. I thought maybe the first one was defective--but guess they all are at least for the smaller harmonics.

  3. Received my Hohner harmonica holder and as with all Hohner products it is first rate. No complaints at this point. It holds my harp firmly and the fit will probably work for almost any size person. The product arrived on time and packaged so that there was no damage to the product upon arrival.

  1. My dad played the harmonica very well and I purchased a couple of these little ones in his memory to give to his great granddaughter. What a unique idea. At his funeral service, I had some of his "recorded music" playing in the background and right before the final words, I asked my little granddaughter to play the little Hohner Mini - which she did -- and what a memory.

  1. Fun, easy to learn, and kind of useless. I say buy this if you're in a band and need a harmonica for a song. I learned how to play well in 2 hours. Kids will quickly get bored with this though. Buy if needed or if you desperately need a hobby.

  2. okay, here is my advice:buy the musicly hopeless pakage. trust me. i actually bought both sets and this is the second best

  3. The harmonica comes with a CD, a book, and its own zip case attached to the book. The book simplifies learning how to play the harmonica and gives a child or an adult an easy instrument to learn with out the complication. Very detailed in a simplistic way.

  1. Excellant Harmonica that puts out great tones if you have the wind to blow into it.I highly recommend this harmonica for all age levels.
You will not be disappointed.Add this to your musical instrument collection and use it regularly.Makes a great gift!

  2. This was my first harmonica, and I've learned just about all the basic playing techniques with it. It's a good, accurately toned harmonica and has a beautiful sound. I've been playing in a band for a while, and playing a trombone isn't really something you can do for fun in your free time, so I bought a harmonica and I play it sometimes at school. It's easy to learn with and probably also good with professionals. The only thing I can't do yet is bend notes, but I'm not sure if that's the harmonica or just my novice skills...

  3. Buying this harmonica and being a first time harmonica player, I was impressed at the harps user friendly style and great sound. Not to mention it's light weight makes it possible to carry with you in your pocket for everyday use. The carry case that comes along with the harmonica keeps the harp clean and dry. A must have for anyone wanting to make some blues!

  4. I am still learning and play only for myself, but I reall enjoy this harp,it has a beutiful sound and mine has very tough,it gets alot of unintentional abuse.

  5. I bought this as my first harmonica. I am by no means a harmonica expert, so I read a plethora of reviews and background info on the instruments before buying this one. I bought it because I heard it would be easy to learn on, I knew Hohner has the best reputation (only rivaled by oskar lee) and I wanted a harmonica with a wooden body.

So far I am beyond pleased and even to my untrained ear the sound is rich.
