5 comments about Blues Turnarounds: A Compendium of Patterns and Phrases for Guitar.
- Excellant book. A Blues guitar player must know a good number of blues turnarounds and there are over 70 of them here presented nicely all in this book. What I like about this book it just cover blues turnarounds and does not cover alot of topics which always end up confusing me. This will you show you some of the best turnarounds it even has a minor blues turnaround. These are two bar phrases. I'm glad they are easy to memorize. I'm plugging these in my blues progressions right away.
- If your blues lick vocabulary needs some punctuation work, as in the punctuation at the end of bar 12 of the blues, this book has you covered. A nice collection of licks that contain that satisfying resolition back the I chord.
- This is a great resource for guitar players wanting to build a solid foundation for the blues. Not the best for beginners, these exercises are more for the intermediate musician who wants to polish their skills and to learn some traditional tricks of the trade. the other books in this series are equally as great. the cd's are very useful because you get the big picture from hearing the back up tracks.
- I've seen others that this book doesn't have on youtube and other websites, and they show you the fingers doing it as well, but this is still a help to someone trying to develop a blues style. I recommend it.
- If you're brand-new to guitar-playing, or have just discovered the blues, this book might be of some help. The CD tracks are clear and straightforward and the tablature is helpful. Many of the turnaround licks themselves, however, are either so elementary that no one of even mediocre skill will use them, or are of limited use because they're heavily jazz-influenced and unnecessarily complicated for guitarists not especially interested in jazz. I'm not a great guitar player, but I've been listening to blues music for decades, and of the 76 tracks on the CD, there's one -- ONE -- that I may try to learn and incorporate into my repertoire. Most of the turnarounds I've learned have come from regular, non-instructional music recordings, and they're not in this book.

5 comments about The Complete Idiot's Guide to Playing Guitar (2nd Edition).
- The book came in the mail and was in great condition. I have found the book to be very informational and easy to follow. I enjoy the information and I am on my way to learning the basics of guitar playing. Awesome book.
- I usually recoil from anything "Idiot's", but when I saw Noad's name on it I was curious. I own several of this famous guitarist/educator's books and thought it would be worth a look. This is a great book! It is appropriate for the absolute beginner; and is also useful to more experienced guitarists. It includes history and interesting guitar information to enhance and add context to the lessons. It does not create the false impression that anyone can learn guitar without hard work and practice; but it does move a student along quickly in simple fashion. I played a beautiful Gomez piece, "Plegaria" from a later chapter in the book (I have not found it anywhere else) at a music circle and it was very well recieved. The CD is also very helpful. I will continue use this book with my students and my own studies.
- Product received as described with disk intact. Am pleased with purchase and would buy again in future.
- this book is is full of super basic information if you own a guitar and took 4 lessons you would be beyond this book. i expected it to go into more relevant playing styles but did not really happen. if you are an emo rocker want-to-be just picking up you very first guitar then by all means get this and sit alone strumming you little heart out, but if you are really trying to get beyond your fisher price my first guitar start some where else. it is not a bad book just very very slow moving and i would say that if if your guitar does not look like the one on the cover. DO NOT GET THIS BOOK. i would recommend it to my grand mother to please the shady-pines crew. i know she would find it her speed.
- Just starting with this but it is well-documented with background tidbits, and it is very easy to use.

5 comments about The Art of Inlay and Expanded: Design and Technique for Fine Woodworking.
- I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for exquisite inlays in wood. The pictures worth it, trust me. Good shoots of very nice work, of different styles. The book also cover how to cut pearl (and also other materials) and inlay by your own, showing tools of the trade and sources of drawings and information. Delight it!
- I didn't have any formal background or knowledge of inlay. This book went through the fundamentals and gave good insight on what to start with and little tricks of the trade. I recommend this book for the beginner.
- This is undoubtedly an inspirational book. However, it lacks much detail for the studnet, interested in learning wood inlay. It doesn't move beyond the basics of cutting inlays and so farth. Anyone can figure that much out. If you want a complete book for inlaying, look elsewhere; if you're interested in the work of Larry Robinson, then look no farther.
- Easy read, plenty of ideas, Understable and descriptive. Explains the art clearly from tools to materials and ways to produce art for final work.
You will finish with a good understanding.
- I bought this book to learn how to do inlay. The subtitle for this book "Design and Technique for Fine Woodworking" is misleading. Don't get me wrong if you want to look at great inlay work this book is for you. But if by some chance you actually want to learn how to do it yourself don't waste your time or your dollar. I recommend, "The Art of Wood Inlay" by George Stevens if you are looking for useful how too information.

5 comments about The Big Book of Children's Songs.
- Item received promptly and in great condition! Husband thought is was a great Father's Day gift from our 4 month old! Thanks!
- If you're looking for a collection of classic children's songs, this is the book for you...
- This book had a nice selection of songs, but our problem is that the guitar tabs are far from easy. The chords themselves are fine, but the book has you doing way too many changes for a beginner. They'll have you playing a different chord every couple bars, and I'm pretty sure you could play the same songs with fewer chord changes.
- This book has a wonderful collection of children's songs that span the ages. I recommed it for schools, church schools etc.
- This book was just what I was looking for. Offers tab as well as strum patterns and picking patterns. Fun children's songs and many from disney movies. I use it in my elementary music class and the kids love it!

4 comments about Taylor Swift (Piano/Vocal/Guitar).
- My youngest daughter loves Taylor Swift and her songs, and this book has renewed her interest in practicing the piano. What more could a mother hope for? Not only does it have the complete piano arrangement, but it also has all the guitar cords, too.
- This is an excellent book for the many fans of Taylor Swift. The notes are easily readable for the advanced and the beginner pianist.
- IF you want to learn how to play Taylor Swift music then this book is great..moderate playing level was perfect! (good for beginners as well)
- The piano perfectly matches up with the tune, the vocals are 100% accurate. I don't know about the guitar part, but I can imagine that is correct as well. If your looking to play the TUNE of the song, this is a great book, The piano is can be a little tricky with timing at times, but once you get the main beat of the song, it's a real fun book to play!

5 comments about The Tube Amp Book: Deluxe Revised Edition.
- I am undergoing the awesome task of trying to build a tube amp currently. A month before I started and after a month of reading online jibberish, I decided some education in the amp field would be nice. I ordered this book which is a great buy for the price. The thing is huge! It gives the history of all the major amp companies and explains what made there amps so great. It was really interesting to read how come companies copied others, then to flip to the schematics and see it first hand. It's a great buy and if you're looking to get a little more technical, look for The Guitar Amp book. It gives a little more in depth explanation on the parts and how they affect sound. But this was a GREAT BOOK!
Be on the look out for skyy amps...
- The founder of Groove Tubes presents an 'updated" Deluxe Revised Edition of material he has developed over many years. 56 in depth amp company profiles with extensive color photos, tube and circuit technical sections, a printed section of many popular tube amp schematics and tube charts, and a CD with 800 total amp schematics in PDF. Great for technical and non-technical readers alike. Should be in the library of every electric guitarist who favors a tube amp. (Don't we all?)
- This book is such a FANTASTIC resource for anyone that has and uses tube amps for guitar! Aspen Pittman (founder of Groove Tubes) has such a profound knowledge of the history of tubes amps in music that you CAN'T be without this book if you you are a "tone hound" at ANY level!!!
He runs through all of the amp manufacturers from A-Z and also gives a tremendous breakdown and guide to both pre-amp and power amp tubes.
Loads of schematics both in the book and on a CD that comes with it.
If you play guitar, this book IS A MUST HAVE!!!!
- Good technical stuff. Lot of info about brands. Lot of schematic diagramas.
Also looks very nice the Deluxe Rev.
- I've been fooling with tube guitar amps for decades. I more or less know what I am doing with them, and I've found most of the information that I want on line. But I thought it would be nice to have a book or two to consult when my wife or daughter was at the computer, when I was tinkering with an amp, or when I just didn't feel like sitting at a desk and looking at screen. Based on its appearance and description, I chose this book. Bad decision.
This book insulted me. I felt used and abused by the author, and that has perhaps tainted this review. I expected a comprehensive and useful guide. That is what this book should have been and what the format and price -and the use of "THE" in the title -- seemed to promise. Instead, I dropped $33 on a big, glossy advertisement for the author's "Groove Tube" tube-selling operation and, by extension, the manufacturers who buy tubes from him.
To make a happy customer, promise less and deliver more. This book went the other way.
Yes, some of the content is useful and interesting, written passages as well as photos. But the section describing amp brands and histories is rendered woefully incomplete as the author veers and swerves through it to make opportunities to refer to himself and his tubes and pimp for the manufacturers that buy from him. (Be wary of authors who never miss opportunities to tell you how important and knowledgeable they are. Quality of content should speak for itself.) Redundancies abound, further wasting the reader's time and valuable space that could have been used to at least mention other manufacturers or give some details about those that deserved more than a paragraph or two. But then, perhaps those manufacturers will yield to the pressure, become Groove Tube customers, and thus buy space in the next edition.
The technical section lacks depth and development, apparently a patchwork of reprinted magazine articles, disconnected one to the next, but with more shameless plugs for Groove Tubes inserted here and there. Many of the articles are reasonably well written and helpful in themselves and would be perhaps be a pleasure to find in a magazine. But overall, the technical section is less coherent and developed than one would expect in the sort of publication that this presents itself to be. Again, the book seems to promise more but delivers less.
Others have commented on many the schematics being illegible or inaccurate.
Perhaps the greatest disappointment is the section comparing tube types. Only tubes marketed by Groove Tubes are included, and they are all, of course, listed by their Groove Tube catalog name and are all shown photographed with the big GT logo prominently displayed. If you are looking for descriptions or comparisons of raved-about tubes by Tung-Sol or Svetlana or the like, you can do much better on the Internet, thank you. You won't find them here.
The book has its good points. It is big. It is glossy. The spiral binding is user-friendly. You will get some insights into the hows and whys of tube amp history and evolution - but then, the book is not unique in that. It has lots of great photos - but even here there are annoying redundancies and omissions: some things described in a way that makes them intriguing are not depicted while other things are shown again and again. Did I mention redundancies?
This book might be a good addition to the library of someone who already has lots of books about tube amps and has room on the shelves for more. But if you are looking for just one or two more or less comprehensive books on the subject, look elsewhere.
I was not happy with my purchase and returned the book.

5 comments about Rhythm Riffs: Over 200 Riffs in All Styles Hal Leonard Guitar Method.
- This book is definitely worth 10 bucks. Greg Koch is awesome guitar player. Chops included in a book are really great! However this book would be perfect if guitar parts were recorded with drums and bass.
- Greg Koch has developed an artful approach to those who find themselves playing the same old, same old. The CD is an excellent tool and the book's format makes it easy to follow. As an old rock player, I was surprised how many of the jazz riffs were of interest and help in my everyday play -- a few minutes here and there spent honing new skills and sounds. I've never had much luck with self-instruction books, videos, or DVDs, but this one's different and well worth the reasonable cost involved.
- It's a neat one, only $10, so it's a great deal.
Let's start out with the not-so-good: The CD recording is one of those that just plays the licks, fast, then slow, so it's definitely not anything you can put in the CD player. There is no accompaniment, so you're going to need to supply your own backing tracks or band-mates if you want to use these licks in any kind of musical situation. Also, a lot of the licks don't really loop very well, so if you wanted to have a cool riff that you could use as the verse of a song, or something like that, you are going to need to modify the last measure of about every lick (he has a nasty habit of ending with whole notes, or other large valued notes, which kills the forward motion of the music, and sounds more like a little "ditty" that you would hear at the end of a commercial or something like that).
So... why am I giving it 5 stars? Because it's awesome. A lot of the licks are really cool, and most of them are very unique (very little cookie-cutter stuff in here). Every guitar player who picks this up will find a lot of interesting things in here. And then, if you decide to analyze it, you will find out a lot about chord shapes, root shapes, scales and how they relate to chords, etc. Also, the licks are often very difficult. Plain and simple, this book has a lot of heart, and is a great deal of content for the price. It's very good rhythm practice for any guitarist, and in focusing on rhythm chops, it's going to make the players who learn from this book into very awesome players! There's so many books with lead guitar licks, this one is great because it's got inventive rhythm ideas, and I reccomend it whole-heartedly.
Daniel Page, Guitar Instruction
- ..thinking it is something that would teach in a systematic way.
This book is for well skilled in guitar method's players who want to experiment and select certain variety riffs planted at specific chords. Some riffs are for acoustic some for electric guitars. I found that Introduction is rather short, hasty and casual. I still try to understand what these dots below the notes are for, and what is notation "w/dist"? Special Techniques explaining is superficial as well. In general "Over 200 Riffs" is like sort of math book where you will find formulas and equations but without examples how and where to use it. It is just a SUPPLEMENT (as indicated on the front cover) that you keep and use as needed. Saying this, I am not going to give up on it. Time will come (hopefully) that I will get back to it and start using to bring flavor to my performances. As for rating, since I tried only few riffs and only for a short spell, 4 stars are rather based on opinions expressed by more skilled customers who purchased it.
- This is not a guitar method since it expects you to have a certain amount of intermediate knowledge. The point is to be able to play a riff over a chord in five different styles, it has riffs over major, minor and dominant seven chords, at the end of the book it has a few 12 bar progressions to show how a riff might interact over a chord progression.
If you just want to play the riffs and, eventually, be able to play them over chord progressions then this book is a very good choice but, to me, it has a "added value" that, unfortunately, the author somehow miss and don't go deeper (that's why I haven't gave it five stars): If you take your time and study the riffs upon the corresponding scale, chord and arpeggio, your understanding of the harmony involved will improve a lot your playing, althought this way of learning is a bit hard and very slow, you will become a much better guitar player.
One more thing, pay attention to the CD and listen carefully, the author is a great guitarrist, just the CD worths the ten bucks this book cost.
For ten dollars, it's a very good deal, I do recommend this book but also, it needs a completion, try Don Latarski's Book Arpeggios for Guitar, wich consist of a list of arpeggios with the corresponding scale and chord.

- This book was an excellent resource for guitar tab music the only thing that would have made it a 5 star book would have been a cd with the music to have the chance to hear the songs.
- I have to say, the detailed tabs, accurate chords, and varied song listing of this book make it an excellent addition to any sheetmusic library. I plan on getting the other 2 editions as soon as I'm done with Volume 3.
- I guess this book is OK... I would not be buying any of the other ones.
When your bored, you'll buy anything. duh

5 comments about Led Zeppelin Classics (Authentic Guitar-Tab).
- All I have say is "Wow" this book is incredible. I've been playing guitar for about 3 months now, and I'm a HUGE Zeppelin fan so I decided to get this book. I think I might have bit off a little more than I can chew. I can play the riffs from a few songs, but that's about it. But, as they always say "Practice makes perfect." If you're experienced with a guitar, I would HIGHLY recommend this.
- I only wish this book contained ALL the songs! The tablature is outstanding and truly what any major Zeppelin guitarist fan is looking for. The solos are included, and unlike "Led Zeppelin Complete," this is a reliable, well-put-together arrangement of GREAT Zeppelin songs. The only bad thing about it is that the fabulous maker of the book did not transcribe MORE songs! At $15.72, this is the best deal for classic Zeppelin tabs, BELIEVE ME! "Dazed and Confused" is soooo intricate, giving me MORE than I asked for! And when I flipped to "What is and What Should Never Be," I realized just how much sense this book really makes. Definitely for experienced guitar players with ears "experienced" in the sound of LED ZEPPELIN. This book will help you to better understand the music behind the madness of this quartet. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED--grab this gold before it is gone!!
- The delivery was great .The book was ok but needed the guitar scales to play lead the music, if you read music which i don't know how, and taps are not complete on how to play the songs like they did .
- This is a good reference for assisting in the composing many of Led Zeppelin's works. There is music notation for vocals, lead guitar and rhythm guitar. The accuracy is questionable in many areas but it does a fairly good job as a starting resource.
- What can I say. I got this book for my wife and she loves it. Even her guitar instructor wanted to steal it. A book two with other of the Led Zeppelin's songs would be nice :-)

5 comments about Build Your Own Electric Guitar: Complete Instructions and Full-Size Plans.
- This is the best electric guitar builder's guide that I have ever seen, especially for new builders like me. Very good colour photos.
- I purchased three recommended books on electric solid body guitar construction. Hiscock's book is more complete and informative but this one came in 2nd. If I wanted to build the guitar described in this book, it gets the job done. It's less complete if you have another design concept in mind.
- Top rated helping constuction manual and guide, very good colour photos, nice presentation overall and just about 1/6th of a page about guitar finishing (painting e.t.c.).
Why, why, why?
- I used this to build my first electric and it made it SO easy! I will never play a production guitar again!
- I really enjoyed this book However, I wish someone wouldn't assume that we're all electrical engineers who can read schematics. I would have liked to have seen a simple, well illustrated section on pickup and control wiring not in schematic form. Well thought out and illustrated in the wood portions and easy to follow but I still don't know how to wire up the electronics.
