5 comments about Casio CTK-496 Electronic Keyboard with 61 Full-Size Keys and Singalong Capability.
- Generally, I agree with the other reviewers. This is certainly not the best keyboard in the world, (...)I bought a CTK-496 from Target, for the same price, in October 2005. At that time, a stand and power adapter were included in the box. That, of course, may have been a limited-time promotion, or perhaps Casio is just cutting costs. Target.com now sells the CTK-496 exactly as Amazon does: no stand and apparently no adapter. Anyone interested in buying a CTK-496 should check a Target store, if there is one in their area. They might still have a keyboard/stand/adapter in stock, for the same price. You might also be able to find a used one on e-bay or some other site.
As far as quality, the other reviewers are on the mark. This thing looks cheap, feels cheap, and sounds cheap. I trust only the piano sound, based on a learning CD I am using. The piano notes seem true to the CD. Some of the other voices are fun to play around with, but not very useful to a beginner, for whom this keyboard is obviously designed.
As someone who has always wanted to learn to play the piano, and ultimately the organ, but has no room for even an upright piano, and sparse time for profesional lessons, I decided to buy this keyboard. I have occasional access to a real piano, and can relate to another reviewer's comment about key resistance and sensitivity. I guess this keyboard is best used to learn basic fingering technique, as long as you realize that a real piano will sound different, depending on how you strike the keys.
In conclusion, I would recommend the CTK-496 as an entry-level keyboard. If you can afford a better keyboard, buy the better one, as I suspect you'll outgrow this one quickly.
- Our school had previously purchased Casio keyboards. I had to replace a few keyboards and thought that this slightly less expensive Casio keyboard would have the same piano sound, even though it had less bells and whistles. It's piano setting doesn't even come close to satisfactory. Parents, if you are looking for a beginning keyboard, please spend a little more money and provide a better piano sound for your child.
A few of my students also figured out how to make microphones out of their headphones (just insert headphone jack into the mic jack and talk into the head piece --kids will try anything)
- Ok, sure it isn't the best keyboard out there, and it SOOO needs a pedal...but I would rather have this one than none at all. It was the only one I could afford, but I would absolutely upgrade if I could.I also got mine @ Target with the stand, paid about $100 for it. I actually didn't realize how bad the sound quality was until I played my boyfriend's $4000 Roland keyboard...dare I say it sounded BETTER than a real piano? If you can buy better, do. If you can't, it does the job.
- My daughter got this as a present a year or two ago. She lost interest but I used it a lot becuase it has some music built in and shows you what keys to hit to play it. So I used it to teach myself a bit of piano. That was great. The problem is the keys keep breaking. I took it apart and re-arranged the key-sets to move the broken ones out to the little-used ends but now I have broken my third key and I think it's kaput.
- my main problem with the keyboard is it sounded cheap and nothing like the real thing. really cheap. i wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

- I asked santa for a electric keyboard for Christmas this year. When I saw that he left me a Casio LK-43 electric keyboard it was way more than I expected. My grandma and I have been playing it all the time together. It is easy to learn because it has voice and lighted key instructions on it and it shows which fingers go on what keys making it easy for me to learn and sound like a pro. My keyboard also has 100 songs on it that helps me learn how to play it. My grandma liked my keyboard so much that my mom returned my grandmas gift and bought her a Casio LK-43 electric keyboard just like mine. Now we both have one just alike. My Casio electric keyboard is the best present I have ever gotten from Santa, it is the BOMB of keyboards. I must have been pretty good last year huh? I can't wait to tell my music teacher when I get back in school.
- This product is really good! it has light up keys and teaching facility. If you do anything wrong while playing a piece the keyboard tells you what you have done wrong. It has a wide range of songs that you can learn how to play from twinkle twinkle to fur ellis! It is a great keyboard! A must have! seriously if you r looking for a keyboard then this is the one to buy! also you can dowload more songs so you dont just have to listento and learn the 100 already downloaded songs. It has 61 light up keys 50 rythems 100 songs and much much more!!!!!!!!!!!!
- I brought this product from Toys R US for my daughter for christmas. I got it no batteries (off course) and no power adapter either. The manual says it is optional but in fine print. We had to buy batteries on a separate trip. Next I am trying to buy the adapter, Amazon nor Toys R US know what to recommend for the power adapter. This is just a ridiculous buy I would strongly recommend that you buy both the keyboard only if it comes with a power adapter and a stand. This is expensive and not worth it. I am planning on returning it and going for a yamaha keyboard.
- It took me about a day to get used to the sound difference between this and piano. The sound was good, it was just obviously different. But now that I have gotten a little more used to the differences, I love it. It came with a stand and an adaptor and a music book to get you started with songs ranging from very easy to more difficult. There is a learning mode that includes 100 songs you can learn to play on 3 different levels. The keys light up to let you know which button to hit next. (This feature can be turned off). And there's a voice that tells you which finger to use. (This can also be turned off.) The learning feature is fun to play around with and as with all keyboards, there are many different sounds you can choose from. Also the Demo mode, plays all the 100 songs for you so you can see how fast they are and how they are supposed to sound and it's fun to sing-a-long to.
- This has turned out to be a better gift than expected. I bought it for the lighted keys and training. the programming in the keyboard is amazing. it includes background music when learning, a voice to tell you what finger to use, a time keeper, many music options. The company that shipped the part also included the adapter which has been a huge help. I would buy again in a heartbeat!

- I had the chance to play side by side the Yamaha equivalent of the Casio CTK900 Keyboard, and I own a real piano and also a Technics weighed-keys full size keyboard. Of course, the sound is not the real thing, but it is realistic enough, and very pleasant, as far as the "grand piano voice" is concerned. The stereo effect is definitively a plus.
Now as far as the ease-of-use is concerned, I really prefer the Casio. Even a poor pianist (like me) can get some amazing results, and the "arranger" functions, or "transistion" are as good as was a $ 5000 instrument five years ago. I am impressed, and I was not impressed at all with the compertitors products.
This keybord is not a toy. This is a perfect beginner piano, plus many many hours of fun. The "speed sensitive" keyboard is well balanced and will simulate the weighed keys of a real piano pretty well.
- Great keyboard. Purchased it for my daughter to practice as she is taking beginning piano lessons. Better than purchasing a piano and finding out they don't like it! It does way more than what we need it for, but worth the money.

- I have this keyboard, and it's good, but the newer model PSR295 is even better and also sold here on Amazon. It costs more money, but it comes with adapter and stand, whereas this one (PSR275) doesn't. By the time you pay for those, you are paying the same price as the PSR295 anyway, so why not just get the newer and better model?
- I bought this at Sam's club for $139 and it included power adaptor and stand. We wanted our kids to learn how to play music but didn't want to spend a lot of money on a full sized piano not to mention we didn't want to deal with the size and mobility issues. This was a great inexpensive keyboard for that purpose. We haven't tried out all it can do yet but we like the sound and the songs programmed into it.
- My 8 year old daughter wanted to take piano lessons but we didn't want to invest in a full sized piano. So we started looking for a keyboard to suit our needs. We chose this one because the keys are full-sized and touch sensitive. Her piano teacher told us this was essential so she won't have problems switching from playing keyboard to piano and back again. This one has all the features that we wanted and the price is reasonable. She's been taking lessons for 9 months and loves it. She also enjoys playing with all the features of the keyboard...choosing other instrument sounds, sound effects, drum kits, pre-programmed songs, and more. She and her younger brother and sister have a blast composing their own songs and playing with all the other features. It's very sturdy and forgiving of young players.
We bought the power adapter when we bought the keyboard. And we gave her a set of headphones so she could play to her heart's content without driving the rest of the family crazy. We will eventually have to get a real piano since this keyboard only has 61 keys. But for the forseeable future this suits our needs perfectly.
We are very happy with our purchase and would recommend this keyboard to others.
- I bought this keyboard to mess around and maybe learn a few chords and I was amazed at how cool this keyboard is compared to most. They say Yamaha is one of the best keyboard brands out there and now I'm a believer. I've even recorded with this keyboard, nothing professional, but it works. Has a decent quality of features and the sound is pretty good for it's price range. A perfect keyboard for any starter. One word, delightful.
