  1. I didn't want to rate this item because I never got to try it out but the system forced me to choose a star in order to write this review. Guitar shipped from American Musical Store and wasn't packaged properly. Was shipped right off the shelf with no extra packaging for protection therefore when it arrived the guitar was damaged. Had to go thru American Musical to get a return shipping label as Amazon doesn't handle returns on things they don't ship directly. The guitar/amp/accessories where at great deal but unfortunately not great enough for me to keep damaged goods.

  2. This guitar is freakin bad....the zipper of the gig bag broken in 2 weeks...the tuner dont tune right..the picks are really bad.....the strap is bad..it scratch on shoulder......the metal thing that hold the strap broke .....this guitar is really bad..do not buy it..i dont recommend it...the amp..sounds bad sometimes..this guitar its not good enough for its price...this guitar is worth for me ..like 20 bucks...just that.

  3. Silvertone guitar and amp played great AND the amp has a headphone jack as well as an input to play along with my iPod. Very cool feature!

  4. Ok, here's a list of what makes this a bad guitar:
1- The strings don't feel right. Specially the 6th string. It hits the fret board and makes an annoying sound even if you strum lightly.
2- The amp is not clear.
3- The tuner messes the tuning instead of adjusting it.

On the other hand, it has some advantages:
1- The picks are good. They come with different colors.

    Conclusion:
Don't buy! Unless it's you 1st guitar and you don't want to spend much money. However, if it's your first time with guitars, I recommend buying an acoustic. Many very good acoustics are sold with cheap prices.

Thanks for reading. I hope this was a helpful review.

  5. I've been trying to seriously begin playing the guitar for a while, and I bought this one in hopes that spending money on an electric would motivate me more than just using the acoustic that I never had a rapport with. I bought this Silvertone as a starter kit, just looking for something solid and inexpensive. I settled on this one because most of the other guitars in the price range were Austin Bazaar, and Austin Bazaar seems to make very low-quality starter kits in hopes that people who don't know better will buy them.

This guitar has done exactly what I wanted, I can't stop playing it. It comes with everything you need as a beginner--it's already stringed (with light gauge strings, which are good to start with), has a spare set of them as well, picks, amp, tuner, and cable. The only thing you could possibly want added would be a distortion pedal, but a beginner has bigger things to worry about.

I have had no problems at all with the guitar. It is solid and well-built, very satisfying to play. This is probably the best deal you can find on a starter kit.

  1. I bought this guitar for my 9 year old son. It is a good guitar for a younger person who is not sure if they are serious about it. It is not a high quality but you are not paying for high quality. It is well made though and should last for as long as you need it to.

  2. This this is awesome. They had everything I needed to set up the guitar, connect it to the amp, tune it and start jamming! Its great for the garage jamming session. I love the glossy black color; looks great. Produces a vibrant sound. It comes with a 10 Watt amp. The amp is small but has good output. Loud enough to annoy the neighbors:-). I recommend it. Thums up!

  3. My son who is 14 seems to like the thing, but I find that the amplifier buzzes annoyingly.

  4. To be frank, this guitar is perfect for those wanting to start learning how to play. It ships very quickly, much quicker than I expected, it sounds great, and the amp is quite powerful for it's small size.

For the advanced guitar players though, you might want to buy a better quality guitar, as there's not a lot you can do with this one but learn and feel like you're a professional, even when you're not.

5/5 stars, quick to ship, great quality for the price.

  1. I'll tell you what's the difference, Jimmy Page, Duane Allman, Eric Clapton (during Cream), all to do with popularity and yes a Gibson might sound better, but this one will save you a little dough and still sound good. This is a excellent guitar and worth the money, you don't need to buy a $2900 version of a original Les Paul, unless you have the money for it, this will do just fine. I play mine every day and it hardly ever goes out of tune and I mean very seldom, unless I'm getting downright crazy with the axe and it still stays in tune. The pick-ups are good and has a rich sound, I also like it better than the Strat and yes, I used to have one.

  2. This is an excellent guitar. It sounds great, plays well and only cost me around 400 bucks. Unless you happen to be very wealthy and can afford an original Gibson '59 Les Paul, I highly recommend this guitar.

  3. Excelente sonido, no pesa casi nada, esteticamente perfecta!, no dudaria en comprarme otro modelo de epiphone, solo fue un poco dificil el envio hasta mi pais pero 100% recomendada.

  4. not bad def for the price. the action is great it can be a bit muddy but all in all a clean sound with a clasic look i would have to say you should def buy one

  5. This guitar is the best guitar ever! It is a sweet guitar! It feels, soundS and looks like a real les paul. It is a great investment! I have played a lot of real les pauls and other guitars and this is the best! I even have my own little Squire Strat which is a good guitar, but I think this is the best guitar on earth!!!!!!!!!! I would definately buy this guitar if I were you!!! But I got mine from a store, so I think you should go and try some out. I got mine for around $400 and it is sweet! I played it for 12 hours straight after I got it, plus a ton during the rest of the week and it hardly went out of tune. It has great sound and sustain and as someone said in one review for another guitar, I have to look down to make sure it is me playing it because it sounds so good!!!!! I LOVE THIS GUITAR! IT ROCKS AND IS THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  1. The guitar is beautiful! My daughter just loves it & has taken her first guitar lesson. The only down fall is that it doesn't come with an amp but that is probably the norm. I would buy it again!

  2. Bought this for my 5 year old daughter and she loves it. I have been playing guitar for over 20 years, know alot about Washburn guitars, they make some really good guitars, this is no exception. But remember this is a beginners guitar, don't expect a $2000 and up guiatr, it is what it is. Had to do a little adjusting(lower the stings)and it was good to go. Looks really good too.

  3. We bought this for our 9 year old daughter's birthday. It was a hit, she absolutley loves it, we were impressed with how pretty it is. I only wish it came with a better amp, we are looking forward for our daughter to begin guitar lessons in mid-spring.

  1. when i received this product i was very upset. the fret lines were so long they cut my fingers the neck was warped and the guitar was virtually unplayable. i sent it back! i would NOT recomend this product to anyone!

  2. I ordered the Austin Bazaar Double Cutaway Metallic Blue Electric guitar kit on December 27th 2007, and on Jan 5th, 2008, I got a plain deep blue guitar with a red amp. After contacting this company, they stated that they would replace the guitar with the one I originally ordered, but that they would not replace the amp for a color change. After waiting two weeks to receive a Fed Ex prepaid return shipping label from Austin Bazaar, I shipped the guitar back to them. It was delivered to them on Jan 31, 2008, and as of today, Feb 7, 2008, I still have no guitar. My A to Z guarantee with Amazon was denied. So here I sit with a Visa bill to the tune of $159.63 with nothing but an amplifier in my possession. Can't make very good music with the likes of this, I am afraid. Please order your guitar products from someone OTHER than Austin Bazaar.

  3. Package included gig bag, adjustable shoulder strap, 3/4 guitar, amp cord, 10 Watt monitor, 3 large picks, tremolo bar, spare strings and two hex keys, and a pitch pipe. I also ordered a GA-30 guitar tuner, which is not part of the basic package.

What I know about guitars you could put in one book without taking the matches out first, but everything is brand new and arrived in good shape. The packaging was adequate; the cardboard box the guitar came in was slightly torn, but the guitar itself was fine inside two layers of sheet foam and the gig bag. The monitor and amp cord came in a separate box, though everything came in one shipment (the tuner was also in the guitar box). Shipping only took three days, as promised.

There are some minor cosmetic scratches on the white plastic frontispiece, but I really do mean minor - you have get right up on it to even notice them. Other than that there were no dings or anything. The guitar seems very solidly put together to me, everything firmly seated with no gaps or warps. It's a bit heavier than I had expected, but that's what the shoulder strap is for I suppose. All the screws are firmly in place and do not show overdriving damage. The potentiometer knobs on the guitar are slightly raised rather than flush against the face (presumably to avoid sticking), seem solidly attached and operate smoothly. The tuning keys are neither too tight to turn easily nor too loose to hold the strings taut. The amplifier cord seats nicely and solidly into the recessed input jack.

The monitor is built to a similarly high standard, with all screws well seated and undamaged, etc. The power switch and drive button have nice positive actions, while the volume, bass and treble potentiometers rotate smoothly without any side play. The amplifier cord seated just as well into the monitor's input jack as into the guitar's, and once I'd found a large size headphone plug it turned out the headphone jack is equally good. The monitor is surprisingly slim and light and has a built-in carrying handle on top. A wire stand folds out from the back if you want it to lean upward rather than sit level; when folded in it has a spring-type retainer.

I tested that the guitar tuner recognized the notes from the pitch pipe, then I used the tuner to tune the guitar; all the strings came in with only minor adjustments. After an hour or so of noodling around (i.e. actively plucking and strumming) to test the various volume and tone controls I re-checked the tuning with the meter and it had held just fine, all strings still right in the sweet spot. After another hour and a half of the guitar sitting neglected while I did laundry (my son is the future rock star, I'm going to be his roadie) a couple had drifted just slightly off the perfect mark but they were all still good notes according to the meter.

All the switches and pots on the guitar and monitor work smoothly, varying what they are supposed to vary continuously with no dead spots. The effect of the two tone pots on the guitar was a little bit subtle to my ear, but I don't know how much effect they normally have. The volume range from the guitar knob was wide enough to be useful. The monitor puts out a good amplitude, especially with the drive button depressed (though it only goes to 10 ;) . Not to worry, the headphone jack also works! The equivalent volume in a pair of headphones is quite a bit louder, so when switching from open-air to quiet practice the player should be sure to start with the volume turned down to avoid overdriven eardrums.

Overall I'm pleased with the quality of the package, especially given the very reasonable price. I'm not a musician but it sounded good to my audience-level ear and so should be quite adequate for a beginner's starter instrument. The shoulder strap is a bit cheap and flimsy but other than that everything seems solid enough.

  4. Hey, I just wanted to let everyone know when I got my set, she was beautiful. The picutre on the website dosen't do it justice. Its actually the light blue but its flecked making it stunning. Granted I'm just starting myself by my roomate has been playing for a few years and mentioned the 10 watt amp put out plently of power. Also we saw the slot for the wammy bar on the pic but when it came it actually included it. Amp is great, guitar is stunning, impressed my roommate.

Definately would be willing to buy from Austin Bazaar in the future!
    (plucks burt's "E")

  5. We bought this as a gift for our goddaughter. We think it is a great starter guitar.

  1. This was the first guitar I got and started me in the right direction. This is a well made guitar and plays great. If your a beginner I recommend this one to get. The guitar and amp is what any beginner needs to get started. Also you get picks, a cool instructional video, and a tuner which are all decent items. Even though I didn't get a new guitar yet and am still using this one but I did get a better amp at $150. Really, this is worth the money and is a really great guitar package.

  2. I've been playing guitar for going on seven years now, and in that time I've played a lot of instruments, both accoustic and electric. For your money, Silvertone is A sure bet.

I recently acquired the SS11 on a scratch-and-ding discount (there was a very minor blemish in the finish - almost unnoticable unless you know where to look), and can verify that it's worth every penny. You're getting a great deal at the markdown, both in instrument and amplifier.

The SS11 is a good, solid instrument with excellent tone. Its three single coil pickups are on a five-way switch with a single volume, dual tone controls, great for players like me, who are constantly messing with treb/bass for that "perfect" sound.

Oh, and don't let the size of the amp fool you. You won't be playing any concert halls with it, but as a practice amp it puts out some serious noise - just ask my neighbors ;)

Also, the included instructional DVD is very comprehensive, perfect for a new player or even an experienced player; I'm not ashamed to admit I picked up a thing or two to improve my playing.

Yes, there are more expensive instruments out there, but if you're just getting started or looking for a good "first" electric, I strongly reccomend the SS11, or for that matter, any Silvertone for that matter.

  3. THis is an awesome guitar. Seriously, I agree with the other reviews even though i have not yet bought it. Great for beginers like me who have no guitar or experience.

  4. My title says it all, you can't beat the price for everything you get! (I paid $169.00, btw) I like the guitar and amp, and while it may not be near the best guitar and amp you can get, it does the job. Perfect for beginners and those who are on a tight budget. I'm very happy with the package. I have been watching the DVD and have been playing away! Again, for everything you get, you just can't beat it! I couldn't find a better deal anywhere!

  5. The package arrived 10 days earlier than the estimated day. It came right on time at my daughter's 13 yrs old birthday. Thanks for Silvertone's prompt service. This package has everything you need from learning guitar, including the DVD demo. The guitar is made beautifully in dark brown color, amplifier with cables, DVD....every piece matches the description on the list. We have no complaint with the tutoring DVD but still sent my kid to a guitar lesson, where she started to play her first song. The similar package we found in Target around our neighborhood tagged as $149 plus tax. With couple bucks more, the whole pkg delivered to our front door (thinking of the gasoline price these days...) Overall, this is a good buy!

  1. I bought this for my 6 year old son thinking I didn't want to pay a ton of money for something that might be a passing interest. But at the same time I wanted to encourage that interest in music.

I guess I was expecting it to sound remotely like an electric guitar. What a dissapointment. My son's face told the story. My husband and I were shocked at the poor sound. We have an even cheaper acoustic guitar that I told my son he could handle however he wanted but "take care" of the electric guitar. Well that acoustic guitar sounds 100% times better and I've now got it on a pedestal.

Needless to say we took the electric one right back to the store that evening. We've agreed to put some extra cash out for something of better quality. Also from another review I read - apparently having a built in amp in Not such a good idea because if it blows - you are out of a guitar. So I guess I'm springing for the amp.

My thoughts are that it should be an experience relatively close to what my kid is imagining. This doesn't even come close!

  1. This item came with everything you need to start playing. My son is in love! The sound is great and the feel of the guitar is solid. It is good quality and reasonably priced.

  2. I bought this guitar and it works great. I got it for 80 dollars at a local guitar shop. Sounds awesome

  3. I got this guitar after doing a ton of research online. I must have looked at 300 different electric guitars then I came to this not so expensive fender. My guitar teach even went to the local guitar shop and told me that the fender squire is an awesome brand. I got my squire for 80 dollars at the local guitar store when online they are 200 dollars. Mine didn't come with the amplifier but my parents bought me a 60 dollar Behringer amp that works great. Also when I went to get my squire they gave me a discount because I wanted the one right off the shelf. I suggest that you go to a guitar store and buy this guitar instead of getting it off line.

  4. Never bought this but dumb Amazon does not provide the ability to remove from list of those actual purchased items!

  5. the guitar needed the strings changed and It was alittle bit scrched. But it sounds good. I was told that it would be new. But I seriosly doubt that.
