  1. Outstanding, the best series on classical guitar method. Used to great success with students from beginner to advanced. Recommend this series to anyone seriously interested in the Classical Guitar, and its techniques.

  2. This book was the recommended book for the Guitar course i took in the college. Its a good book for a newbie who knows nothing about a guitar. ITs a good starter book for playing guitar. has lots of simple songs to practice and teh CD that comes along is also good. It also teaches how to read music notation.

Good book for a new guitarist

  1. A good item. We had looked in a number of places for the sheet music edition of the songs. Amazon was the only place we found it. Another site took us to a porno site along with the CD music version of the specific song we were looking for. The sheet music is simpler than expected but that is OK. We will continue to use Amazon for similar searches. You provide a reliable source for items that are at times hard to find.

  2. this is a very basic or begginers book of sheet music.
as the title says Easy Piano, it is very easy.
if you are doing piano lessons, and you have completed the first book or two, this is for you. If it has been awhile since you took lessons, this maybe too "Easy Piano".

  1. This book is nice, but on its second half is very hard for you to go on alone... You will need a teacher and additional studies.

  2. I've learned to play 5 different classical instruments in my lifetime, but guitar seems to be harder, maybe because I'm older now. I appreciate though that this book is thorough. I would have hated having to go through little lesson books that try to spend too much time on musical basics (like whole notes and scales.) I feel like if anything is going to help me get a grip on guitar, this one will (well, short of actually paying for lessons).

5 comments about J.S. Bach for Electric Bass: Three Duets and Five Solo Pieces Arranged for Bass Guitar.
  1. Having not studied classically, the JS Bach book has helped my technique enormously and I can already see and feel improvements from playing the pieces. Enjoyable and interesting studies to play. Definitely a must buy for all bassists whatever style. Guaranteed fast results...lets see what my jazz colleagues think of my solo pieces now! Go buy it now!

  2. Great book, and even better if you've got a mate who can learn the accompanying parts.
Bach pieces arranged for the bass vary from the simple to the all out incredible, but with this bok you can work over the easy and the hard stuff at your own pace. Tab is there for those that need it, bu the notation is also there which is very important to get a feel for the pieces. The notes are also most informative with regard to feel, time signature and speed. Given enough practise, you can master a few of the arrangements very quickly, and before long, be able to impress a few people with your new found dexterity. Then impress them more when you do a full duet with a mate...

  3. Not the most thrilling of all music you can buy, but it is accessable to intermediate players like myself. Nice to play something different besides Rush and Cream, and my wife doesn't mind listening to it either.

Not for beginners. May be useful to know what the piece sounds like before you attempt to play it.

  4. This is a great book for intermediate to advanced level Electric Bass. There are two duets for Bass and Violin (or G Clef instrument) and one for Bass with accompaniment for Piano. Includes the tab notation which helps a lot!

  5. A wonderful book of Bach pieces transcribed for the electric bass. I'm a music teacher who is primarily a guitarist, but I also have a few bass students, a couple of them who have progressed beyond the fundamentals of rhythm, position, and left and right hand fingering.

These pieces offer a refreshing contrast to the more contemporary styles usually associated with the electric bass guitar, and the duets are fun to play with students.

1 comments about Mel Bay's Favorite Hymns for Classical Guitar.
  1. As stated in the preface, "all transcriptions were derived from the best-known versions of the hymns." This collection of hymns and songs of praise are carefully noted with fingerings and are easy enough for late beginning - to early intermediate guitarists, since since much of the musical notation is in the first position. Both traditional and contemporary pieces are included in this good selection of familiar sacred music.

  1. After buying "Reading Studies for Guitar" I knew that "Advanced Reading Studies for Guitar" would be a perfect companion. This second installment of reading studies covers positions 8-12. I can definitely say my playing level has been sharpened and I am now more confident about my playing abilities.

3 comments about 50 Baroque Solos for Classical Guitar.
  1. This is a well-produced package overall... The transcriptions are clean and precise, the music well-selected to reflect a clear picture of the Baroque guitar at an intermediate level... Only drawback is the lack of any commentary regarding the pieces or background of Baroque guitar in general by the author... Other books supply that information, though (the Noad Baroque Guitar Anthology includes a wonderful disseration on the subject) so it's only a minor complaint in this context. This book will sit nicely alongside other classical guitar books of this genre, and it will also prove appealing to rock guitarists who enjoy classical guitar and want to play beautiful pieces without undergoing a huge learning curve. The CD is well-recorded and is a nice listen in and of itself as well. All in all, well done!

  2. The tablatue notation of the works teaches you to play the songs on the first position of guitar, your fingers will work around the 5 frets most of the time; some of the fingering might feel a bit clumsy if you have practiced mainly cords or scales. There is no indication on which finger to use to plunck the strings, you will need to figure that out by yourself.

The pieces arrenged by Mark Phillips were in major modes and when you listen to the audio cd they sound rather beautiful. Whether your aim is to learn some songs or feel a bit of how the baroque and renaissance music were, both books (50 renaissance or 50 Baroque Solos for Classical Guitar) will suit you. The serious enthusiast might feel suspicious but if you want to show off for a date, family or friends it will do the trick and those books are not really that expensive.

  3. 50 Baroque solos for classical guitar seemed to be a great buy, but after I began playing the first songs, I realized they were not a big challenge. I was hoping for something more challenging and hard, instead I found a book great for intermediate players. If you are learning classical guitar in high school or have one or two years of experience, then this is a good buy. More experienced players can take advantage of it by using it to practice and hone sightreading.
