- As a piper and avid collector of highland bagpipe music, this book is a welcome addition. There are over 100 tunes of all music types and timing: slow marches, quick marches, strathspeys, reels, etc. Since this is a "lower competition" grade band, the tunes can be played by many pipers who are of average caliber, but all original compositions. There is the requisite history of the pipe band, as well as short explanations behind the tunes. There are some very nice tunes which can be played by either solo pipers or pipe bands. I'm looking forward to more volumes in the future.
