  1. The Fein Sanding Finger Pad is a waste of your good money! The sanding finger is not stiff enough. The net result is that the hook & loop sanding papers vibrate off of the sanding finger within less than a minute of use. I am extremely disappointed in this product, as it is the first Fein product, of which I own many, that does NOT work as advertised. If I could, I would return the Sanding Finger and all of the sandpaper that I purchased for it.

  2. I SHOULD HAVE LISTENED TO THE OTHER REVIEWER...BUT I HAD TO SEE FOR MY SELF!! DONT WASTE MONEY ON THIS..THE SANDPAPER FALLS OFF IN ABOT 45 SEC ON USE...I CANT EVEN GET A FULL MINUTE OF USE!! ONCE IT FALLS OFF..IMPOSSIBLE TO STICK BACK ON!!! YOU WOULD THINK FEIN WOULD BE ABLE TO DESIGN SOMETHING BETTER ..I WOULD HAVE RATED IT LESS THAN ZERO STARS IF GIVEN THE CHOICE..DONT BE STUPID LIKE ME !!! TRUST THE REVIEWER!!!

  3. C'mon Fein, the people that use your multimaster and spend that kind of money on a tool are usually craftsman that depend on the better manufacturers to live up to their name. When I told people what I spent on the multimaster they thought I was crazy until they had it in their hand. I suppose now that you're running infomercials at 4AM the folks in R&D will pump out mass market targeted tools to appease Mr. Homeowner. Being as Mr. Homeowner will only use it twice a year I'm sure he'll find it adequate for refinishing his birdhouses each spring. Had you sent these attachments to the folks who bought your tools before it was "chic" to own one, you wouldn't have to read reviews such as this. Sorry guys, but you really did give us the "finger" on this one.

  1. Let me start off by saying that I have never used a high end Forrest or Freud Dado set but this is by far the best dado I have ever used; in comparing price I can't imagine the others are twice as nice. Excellent outer blades and six tooth chippers really gives you a smooth operation with a nice flat dado cut. I tried it on a number of veneers as an experiment and it never split or separated the outer layer, I am very happy with this set. I would actually give it 4.5 stars, it misses all five because of the "case". It is just a cardboard box; that will probably get damaged in shipping. I built a case and now have a high end dado set for half the price of the better known names.

  1. Potential users: Click on the "See Larger Picture" link. Notice that (threaded) hole on the flat part at the top? That's where the handle should be, the handle that gives you oomph to push and guide your stock with the miter gauge. Makes the cutting LOTS easier and more accurate with larger pieces!
Jeez, including this handle with the gauge couldn't have cost 'em more than a couple bucks--but they don't. Nor do they give you any way that I could find to locate and order one.

  2. This is a sturdy little unit but it does not have stops for 90 degrees, 45 degrees, etc.

Taking into account the other review, I would not recommend this unit to a friend asking advice.

4 comments about Hitachi DH38YE 1 1/2-Inch Spline Rotary Hammer.
  1. after a year of use and abuse my hitachi is still going strong.it drills fast and easy and in hammer mode drives ground rods and does light demolition effortlessly.i prefer the spline shank drills and accesories over the little sds shank bits but i do use an adaptor for the slightly cheaper sds or taper shanks in the smaller sizes.industrial machinery installation is tuff on tools but the hitachi DH38YE not only came through with flying colors but outlasted a much more expensive brand.

  2. Like most Hitachi tools , this is very well engineered. It stands up to all kinds of abuse. Mine ran for years drilling all sizes of holes in old hard concrete. I also used it for chipping which is hard on roto hammers. They don't have a lot of power for breaking concrete as this is not their intended primary use. So when you do use them for breaking , they have to run a lot longer than a demolition hammer would. It has pretty good power for drilling though. I bought mine used and had it for five years before replacing it recently. I went to SDS max which is currently replacing spline drive in the large rotary hammer market. It is a tighter mechanism which transfers more of the hammering power to the bit , resulting in faster drilling performance. If you have a lot of spline bits , this would be a good tool to buy. If you are starting from scratch , I would recommend the SDS max hammers from Hilti , Bosch or milwaukee

  3. I bought mine a few months ago, and I love it. I use it for breaking up granite boulders by drilling a line of holes and splitting the rock with stonemasons' 'feathers and pins'. The thing weighs quite a bit so it's not the best for small holes in masonry walls. It seems to work best when held vertically or close to it. ... I've not had any problems with it, and it does as good a job as my friend's Hilti which cost him more than twice as much. The spline-shaft bits aren't always easy to find. My local Home Depot has a few, but mail-ordering is usually necessary to find a specific size. I haven't tried to use it as a jack-hammer yet, so I cannot confirm or refute toolpig's evaluation of when it's used as such. In any case, I think I got good value on this tool.

  4. I bought this rotary hammer for drilling in grout holes for rebar and anchor bolts and some other misc. holes in concrete. It is a very good tool for someone who has a lot of varied tasks but dosen't work the tool everyday. The clutch is a wrist saver, the bits are harder to find than SDS Max and the price is right. But the tool went down in a matter of hours, and given Hitachi's impossible to locate parts, I'm shopping for a SDS Max Hilti or Bosch. No tool is a good deal if it shuts your job down.

5 comments about Makita DA391DWD 3/8-Inch Cordless Angle Drill Kit.
  1. For tasks with limited access, this angle drill works quite well. It fits where my larger cordless tools won't go. However, the kit comes with the older 9.6V 1.3Ah NiCd battery pack (not the 2.6Ah NiMH implied by Amazon's listing title). Kit originally came with the older DC9700 charger that can only handle NiCd battery packs. Very recent versions of this kit come with the newer DC1414T charger that can handle both NiCd and NiMH battery packs. Obviously, the newer kit version is preferred as you can add the higher capacity 2.6Ah NiMH 9.6V batteries and all other Makita packs up to 14.4V. Tool is more of a drill than a drill/driver. Caveat emptor.

  2. This is an excellent tool for those of us who repair furniture, set up beds, and other kinds of home furnishings. The shape and design allows it to get into the tight spaces, and the little guy is pretty tough. Whether screwing on drawer pulls, assembling waterbeds, or attaching pier walls, this is the best I have used.

For the person who does a lot of heavy, stationary drilling, I would recommend a heavier, higher voltage drill, but the the professional on the move, this one is tough to beat.

  3. I purchased this drill because it seemed like a good value since it was supposed to include a Ni-MH battery. Amazons listing is misleading. It ships with a Ni-cd #632007-4. A little disappointed with Amazon but the drill is still a quality product. It is a drill thus it isn't very conducive to driving screws but it can be done with a little care. I've used the drill already and it was up to the task. Not a bad price or product to get you out of a tight spot.

  4. Try working in a tight spot on cabinet hinges. Mikita right angle drill is the one for the job. Works great for me.

  5. Durability and comfort in hand are remakable, once you use it. The rotation direction is easily changed by thumb of trigger hand.
The torque is exceptional, although the variable speed is sensitive. You'll need to go real light on the trigger to engage at very low speed, such as 50-100 rpms, when putting a lot of torque on a screw, to keep from stripping the bit slot of the screw. Once you get used to it, it's easy to live with.
The charger base and carry case are of excellent build quality.
In summation, you may only need to use it 5-10% of the time on given tasks or jobs, but it will be well worth the cost when you can't quite fit a standard drill into a small space to drill or screw.
An immensely useful 'add-on' would be a small drill jig that keeps the drill square [or at a desired angle] to the work, since when you do require to drill in tight spaces, you probaly won't be able to get your head in close enough to 'eyeball' a square angle of the drill to the surface. Might be able to retrofit something though. Minor issue; drill is still superior to most other brands as well.

  1. This little tool is just wonderful, does exactly what it was designed to, always ready, for its size powerful enough to do lots of work and take the labor load off its owner. I am an apartment dweller and with the cost of repairs today this drill earns its keep.
The reason I gave it a score of one, is not the drill, which deserves a 5, but the stupidity of the manufacturer, Skill in packaging it, on the charger base, there is a piece of pressure sensitive foam, it was put on and looks like it really belongs, after using mine for a while I had the same problem as the gentlemen before me, it would not charge, upon examining it, I saw the foam, and realized that it was impossible for the contacts to contact, removed the foam, all is well, I wonder how many of these drills were returned because they could not be charged, brilliant Skil, just brilliant

  2. Once you get over the fact that this thing looks like a toy compared to your other manly man tools, you find that this drill/driver is really handy around the house.

  3. I've owned this little Skil cordless drill for about 3 years now and still love it. I used it just today in the kitchen, even though I also have a full size cordless DeWalt now. It just comes in handy for so many of the smaller jobs around the house.

Even though I said "smaller" jobs, don't be fooled by its size - many of the men that have had to use mine have been surprised by its capability & power. Mine has done hundreds of jobs for me from just tightening loose screws to putting together large furniture, and I think every household should have one. It's just so easy to grab & go.

I've never had a problem with the charger; in fact, mine sits on the charger all the time, and it's never run out of power during a job. I had to get the larger DeWalt for drilling larger holes and doing larger jobs now that I have a house, but this little Skil is still my first choice for inside jobs.

  4. I just got this and couldn't be happier. I have had to change numerous electrcal outlets, lamp wirings and so forth, and for this its small size is a strength. It has more than enough torque for this type of thing, and the use of Lithium ion batteries is a plus, as is the handy storage case.

For bigger jobs I can recommend the Makita BDF452HW 18-Volt Compact Lithium-Ion Driver Drill Kit, which is much larger, more powerful and has more features appropriate for its type of driver.

BTW, both these drills got recommendations at the following website, which is a good source, in my opinion:
    http://www.consumersearch.com/

  5. The Skil ixo is one fantasttic little screwdriver. Compact, lightweight and still powerful. I highly recommend it.

4 comments about Porter Cable 8412 12-Volt Xenon Replacement Light Bulb, 2 Pack.
  1. These are extremely bright bulbs. I have no idea how long of a life they have though because they don't survive a fall when hot in the model 869 flashlight. Aimed at the celing from floor this bulb provides enough light to see clearly what you are doing in a 10' X 10' room with no problem.

  2. 12v flashlight bulbs are not exactly easy to find. Home Depot? nope. Lowe's? nope. True Value? nope. These are all places that sell the flashlight, but not the bulbs, strange but true.
Even when shopping online they turn up in places you would not normally look, ie: amazon.com. Hey kids, they aren't just for books anymore...by the way the actual item I was looking for was DeWalt 12v flashlight bulbs, however my theory that the Porter-Cable bulbs would work in my DeWalt turned out to be true, for all I know it's the same manufacturer for both.

    thanx Amazon.com!

  3. Great flashlight. I use it all the time. My kids also love it and have broken the bulb once. So did my brother-in-law. One fall is all it takes. This is the only bad thing about the flash light. Oh yeh, these bulbs are impossible to find locally, so do like I did and order a bundle...

  4. since porter cable battery flaslights use specific bulbs as replacement, this is a must have item...works great , now have light where i want it..and the price was good compared to other sites i visited

5 comments about Freud TK303 Avanti 7-1/4-Inch 40 Tooth ATB Thin Kerf Finishing Saw Blade with 5/8-Inch and Diamond Knockout Arbor.
  1. This blade is excellent! Very smooth cuts on birch cabinet grade plywood.

  2. If I've ever had proof that spending a few more $ for quality is worth it, this is it. Bought for project calling for 4 sheets of 3/4 plywood. Am using Asian Birch plywood. Almost all crosscutting being done with Milwaukee circ saw and now this blade. Wow! The saw glides (I mean realy glides) through the cut and with no splintering! I wish I could give more than 5 stars.

  3. WOW!!! This blade cut MDF glass smooth... I had minimal tear out and the blade was perfectly balanced. I can't believe how well this blade cuts compared to a 140t plywood blade. This Avanti blade also runs very true and stays cool - thanks largely to the massive "shearing vents". I haven't had a problem with material sticking to the blade, nor have I had to cut anything that would lead to binding with it yet, but the silver ICE coating sure makes it look cool... like a rim on your saw, lol. That being said, I'm not sure that I'd use the 24t version of this blade for heavy duty work, this seems to be a delicate blade due to those vents. The Diablo line also by Freud works really well, especially for decking with the slick coat. For a finishing blade however, the 40t Avanti is awesome!

  4. This blade cuts clean! I replaced a 24 tooth blade with this one. The difference is incredible. I used this blade mostly for cutting plywood panels for cabinetry. I couldn't be more pleased.

  5. This blade is amazing. I bought it for ripping 3/4" birch ply to be used for a bookcase. I used it in a Milwaukee circular saw with an edge guide. This blade produced absolutely no tearout or chipping. The edge was finished as good, if not better than my table saw can do.

Don't bother with a plywood blade. In my experience, they get hot and burn your material. This blade has made me a Freud man for life.
