4 comments about Jet 708376 JWL-1220 12-inch X 2-inch Wood Lathe.
- I've had this lathe for about 4 months now and it has worked great. The only adjustment I needed to make out of the box was to loosen the nut under the tailstock to allow it to slide more freely when it was not locked down.
Variable speed would be a nice option on this lathe if Jet ever ugrades it
- The Jet 1220 is an excellent choice for people without a lot of shop space. It's similar to their venerable 1014 models which have been on the market for a while, but is considerably beefier and has somewhat larger capacity. Weighing in at almost 100 pounds, it's not really that portable, but the extra mass seems to help it run remarkably smoothly for a benchtop lathe. Jet also manufactures a bed extension which allows you to turn longer spindle work (the motor is powerful enough for most furniture work).
Jet's customer service is outstanding, by the way. I had a problem early on with the bolts on the tailstock and they shipped replacement parts the next day. I've now had the lathe over six months and it's been reliable.
I agree with the previous reviewer that electronic variable speed would be a really nice feature, though changing the speed manually by adjusting the belt only takes about 20 seconds or so.
- I purchased this lathe 2 months ago. First off the packing is adequite but not spectacular. Of course being over 100 lbs can afford some damage issues, especially as the unit sits straight up and its demensions make it high and wide. Remember that the unit must travel overseas to a dealer, through customs, stored in inventory then re-shipped to customer.
in any event my unit while the outside of the box had some issues :)
the unit itself came through unharmed.
This unit is heavy so be carfull. The two hand pulls on either end make transport easier. No problems to set up. Make sure you have a rag, to wipe off excess protective oil. Finish is typical with most of the jet tools....nice..no spurs..typical cast iron bed no rough spots.
With the 3/4 hp motor you do get added stability. I am a pen turner right now and the difference is very noticable. Very very quiet. My wife loves that..at least until I turn on the dust collector. Plan on smaller bowl turning which was the main reason for the change. The light comes in handy as well.varible spped would be nice, hear its in the works, maybe out by now. I'm a firm believer in the more gizmos the more possible breakdowns. As with the sister midi jet, changing belts are no problem.
after the first 2-3 changes your a pro.
Bottom line: This is a great product fair price, has a extention bed and
stand.You will totally enjoy..

- I can not review the lathe yet as I have not received it. I am just providing a warning on expecting the shipping to be on time. The product arrived in the City next to me on the date promised. It took about a week to travel across the nation. Now they are advising it will take another 7 days to travel the 27 miles from the arrival city to my home.

2 comments about Freud LU91R012 12-Inch 72 Tooth ATB Thin Kerf Sliding Miter Saw Blade with 1-Inch Arbor and PermaShield Coating.
- The LU91R012 is a very good all around trim blade for all soft and hard wood trim. It works especially well with sliding miter saws. The thin kerf is a must for fine trim cuts and I wouldn't buy a blade without a perma-shield coating. I've been building custom homes for 25yrs. and know saw blades.
- I bought this blade for my bosch miter saw and it does a great job. Really smooth and quiet with minimal splintering. The finished cut requires hardly any sanding. This is my first Freud blade and I think
all of my saws are going to get one. A little pricy, but you get what you pay for!

5 comments about Shop-Vac 925-33-10 18-Gallon 6.5 HP Industrial Wet/Dry Vacuum.
- High capacity, great suction, convenient tools, big wheels, sturdy handle. I am so glad I bought this versatile machine.
- I was very pleased with the prompt shipment of my order. The 6.5 hp shop vac does a great job. Just be careful it is so powerful it will suck the shoes off your feet.

- I gave it three stars because of quality of build and design. There were no usable instructions although something called instructions was in the box. The quality of the materials is sub-par, all plastic. I feel like I have to be very easy when moving the vacuum around for fear of breaking it. The hose is very cheap and kinks at the neck easily. The attachment storage was not really designed at all. There are no good placements for attachments or the hose.
It does vacuum well and the noise level is not bad. Next time I will get a true commercial vac, not one that has a marketing label on it that says "industrial".
- This is an amazing product. It does everything it says, and does it with ease. The best part is it does not blow out dust, not even from plastering or drywall. My brother bought a Rigid from Home Depot and it was horrible. He hated it. I have used this in almost every situation: wet vac to get water out of my basement; blower to blow leaves; vacuum up after putting up drywall and plastering and sanding; vacuuming the cars; vacuuming outside (because it was out there and I was too lazy to get the broom); etc., and this shop vac handled everything with ease. As far as quality, I have no fear that it will fall apart. It takes the bumps of going down steps just fine. The hose is what it is. You can't expect it to be indestructable, but it sucks up 3 inch nails, drywall screws, etc., with no problem and no punctures (in either the hose or the bag). Keep in mind this is one big shop vac, but it does a great job. I bought accessories at home depot, and they fit all standard hoses. I really think this is an essential product for any home and/or business owner. It is VERY easy to use and put together.
Added March 23, 2008:
This machine is awesome. It has gotten me through some minor and one major flood, a complete basement finish, as well as blowing the leaves when the landscapers don't show up. It can take a beating. I was sure I would have to buyg a new one after a big rain storm started flooding my basement, but it turned on and sucked up water pretty quickly, and helped get out what the sump pump (that I bought while my wife was using this shop vac) could not pick up (the last half inch). It picks up nails with no problem, and the bags are thick enough that they don't puncture (they will puncture the bag when you remove it, so be careful). I bought a few other attatchments at home depot, and everything works very well together. If you have a house or are getting one, you need one of these! Just buy a good extension cord (not a cheap one that will heat up). Also, it has the best suction of any vacuum, so when the kids spill a Costco sized Nestle's Quick, it picks it up with no problem. In fact, it picks up any reasonable debris, and some unreasonable one's as well. The best thing, it does not blow dry wall dust (unless you aim the exhuast the wrong way). What I mean is, what goes in STAYS in.
- This is a good machine, I restore marble and granite floors and counter tops & doing that line of work = using lots of water with your wet grinder. So I bought this due to the large tank on it.
I will say once you get it half full of water it is almost impossible to move in the direction you want to go in due to the caster wheels in the front locking up due to the weight. When the tank if FULL to the top.. forget it.. If you are looking for a wet/dry vac for mostly water removal keep looking. Also if you need longer hose as I do, you can goto your local carpet steam cleaner and purchess a 20foot by 5inch hose for less then $45.00 USD that is much more durable. However you will loose a little suction but not much & this is a pritty powerfull wet/dry vac.
Good luck I hope this helped someone..

3 comments about MSI-PRO 12050 Vertical Quick-Release Toggle Clamps.
- This toggle clamp has a faulty design. There is a nut on the side of the clamp that protrudes too much and does not allow you to insert one of the four bolts that would hold it down to the working surface. This is not shown on the product's picture since it is on the other side of the clamp.
- This is a great product. I have used it to make several jigs that keep my fingers away from the blade. It's great for an extra hand. Depending on the size of the screw/bolt head it can be a little difficult to put screws/bolts in two of the holes but the end result is well worth the extra time. I would have only taken off half of a star for that but I do not have that option. This clamp is well worth the money.

- It was what I wanted, I would buy again from this merchant. It was as described.

2 comments about Stanley 16-971 6 Piece FatMax« Short Blade Chisel Set.
- I've been trying to find a good starter set of chisels. These fit the bill. Better than some I tried, but didn't break the bank. Came in sharp enough, but as with any chisel required a little touching up. The only downfall was the packaging. Outer box was fine. Product box was dirty and wrapped in shrink-wrap. Some very small dings in the blade. Product showed no signs of use, so most likely just a factor of the price-point.
- Husband loved this chisel set. Strong, sturdy and priced reasonably. Came packaged carefully, in perfect condition.

5 comments about Incra MITER2000/27 Table Saw Miter Gauge.
- The short version: set-up took about 3 hrs due to poor directions, sloppy detailing and bad drawings. Operation met expectations.
If you buy, prepare as follows: 1. Get about 10 machinist shims in increments of .001 or .002. These will be needed to adjust to square with your table. This beats measuring slips of paper with a micrometer and figuring out how many to slide into place. Mine took .005 to square. Their "Tip" between steps 1 and 2. 2. Do calibration step 1before step 2 in assembly to avoid double handling. Remove the allen screws and rub with some wax or dry lubricant. The screw heads build-up so much friction against the plastic expansion washers that you can almost break your 7/64 allen wrench. 3. When setting up for the right side --IGNORE their drawing and instructions. They show a through slot connecting the fence to the mounting bracket. It is not slotted which means that when you remove the fence; you can't get in back in with loose washers supplied. I ended up making a ball of wax paper to put behind their slotted washer to be able to reinstall the cap screws -- this will make sense when you see the unit. Remember that you will have to do the same table squaring step for the right side as you did on the left. It's incredible that they supply a part that's completely different than their drawing. 4. The Shop Stop is generally well designed part, but the manual provided is useless for initial set-up. The rack system is very accurate and the positioning works well after you set the rule to your machine. In operation, the unit is excellent. Changing from 90 to 45 takes 5 seconds and is totally accurate. Too bad they don't have someone in engineering actually assemble the unit from their drawings and instructions before sending out to customers.
- Any Incra jig is a winner. The 2000 is no exception. For a few dollars more than the Incra 1000 you get positive stops every one (1) degree, rather than every 5 degrees as on the 1000. Additionally there is another indexed stop which then makes all the positive stops on the 1/2 degree. Marvelous instrument, especially when compared to the miter gauge that came with my Sears table saw 22 years ago.
Update 31 Mar 05: Now that I've been using the Incra 2000 for a few months, I find zero defects, zero detractors for this miter gauge. In fact, I finally can make 45 deg angles that are more accurate than the wood movement that occurs in any project. You cannot get any better than that!
- Recently purchased the Incar 2000 Miter Gauge. I have tried for years to accurately cut mitered angles with mediocre success.
I spent a very careful hour setting up the Miter Gauge. When set up was complete (followed directions explictly) I tested the product. I took 8 pieces of stock 3/4" x 1 1/2" x 12" and proceeded to cut 22 1/2 degree angles on both ends. Laid all eight pieces on the work bench and dry fitted a perfect hexagon. You can't get a human hair in the joints. This is an expensive tool but for the first time ever I can cut extremely accurate angles. This tool should dramatically enhance my abilities.
I am not thrilled about the "stock stop" feature but that is a secondary need for me.
- I have had my miter 2000 gauge for 5 years. As a left handed person I do not like the tape configuration. But I must say this gauge was dead out of the box. Set up was very simple. The stop is awesome -- and completely reversible to the right side of the blade. THis thing fit my older Delta cabinet saw (right tilt) and my newer X-5 left tilt w/ no problem. I have also purchased the incra 7" square and have found it dead accurate.
I do not like the price of Incra products but I must admit they are true precision instruments. I just received a Incra 3000 in the mail last week. So far same thing. I have not run it thorough it's paces yet though. I can say 90 degree angle is also dead on. Set up was 20 minutes.
- I like to make clocks and the incra 2000 i got was the best thing i ever got.It was simple to put together and there was little things to put together, when got together i found out that the guids on the runner sure did help alot when i got them set just right because my old miter gauge was loose and would not make crisp cut like the incra does. The fence and the stop on it sure is well built all of the miter gauges that i checked out this one weighs the most and is built the best, with the teeth cut out for the degrees they will not wear out and you will always get a perfect reading everytime. Out all of the miter gauges i looked at this beats it by far i would not give it up to anything.
