  1. I am a home repair, remodeling and maintenance contractor. I and my employees have been using this particular model and several of its other variations for years. With the constant use and abuse we subject them to, we have yet to break one or have them fail in any way. Plus, I think they are guaranteed for life. The versatility of the onboard bits makes tackling jobs a breeze and I literally can't live without this amazing tool. In a matter of seconds we have the exact driver we need to accomplish every task without running back and forth to the tool bag. The Megapro actually makes me money because of the time and effort it saves. The homeowners I work for ask me almost every time they see one how to get one but until these came on Amazon I did not have a reasonably priced source for them to purchase one and I guard mine like a newborn baby. There's a bit for every possible fastener head you will encounter including a 1/4" nut driver (great for hose clamps). If you want the best screwdriver in the world at the best price I have been able to find in 6 years you need to buy one for you and everyone else you know right now. P.S. Since I came across these Megapros I never have to think about what to give someone, man or woman, for a quality gift.

  2. I used to own 3 of these screwdrivers and two were stolen probably because it was such an excellent product. I searched and searched forever for replacements. Finally found this website. The entire ordering process and shipping when flawlessly. Product was packed excellently. I am delighted.

5 comments about DELTA 37-275X X5 Professional 6-Inch 1 Horsepower Jointer, 120/240-Volt 1 Phase.
  1. Bought this jointer when the price was in the low $300 range and came with a free mobile base.

Jointer took about an hour to set up. It was tuned perfectly for the first cut. Kudos to the Delta Guys for making my life easier in setting it up.

I face planed about 30 feet of white pine to start, with no cuts or dashes. The motor easily handles face planing 5 1/2 inches.

Dust collection is only moderate, but it's acceptable. Granted, I have the machine hooked into a shopvac, not a bigger DC unit.

All in all, a GREAT buy for the money. If I had to spend $500 for it, then I might not be quite as excited. For a little over $300 though, you probably can't buy a better 6" jointer.

  2. The X5 arrived intact and went together easily. The only problem I had is the outfeed table that seemed to tilt just a bit. I worked for some time to correct this then decided I could live with it. I then had to reset the knives but I really expected that. The X5 runs very smooth and cuts great and I love the rabbet cutter. Overall, I am glad that I purchased this unit.

  3. I have little to compare it to, as this is my first jointer. This was easy to set up, I've had no problem with chip extraction, and I'm very happy with the surfaces. I haven't tried figured woods.

If I were to do it again, I'd wait and save up for an 8" jointer with much longer beds, in the 84" range. Rollers and other supports don't work well for jointing (at least not for me), and for longer stock the bed length would help a lot. If you ever think you want to make dining tables, wooden beds or laminate long strips of wood, for example, get something with longer beds.

I put a link belt on it, which helped with a little wobble and noise. Seems like a link belt is the way to go for any single belt motor. Delta ought to make a link belt standard in anything with an X5 label. It costs us $35 a pop as an after market accessory, but their costs would be much lower. Same for machined pulleys, but don't get me started.

  4. I made a first cut on hard maple using my new Delta 37-275X 6" Jointer. Without any adjustments to the outfeed bed or knives, it produced a beautiful flat smooth finish.

I'm glad Delta uses cosmoline to prevent corrosion. I used paper towels to remove most of the grease and then cleaned off the rest using rags & kerosene (outdoors). I then coated all the bare metal with WD-40 and covered the flat bed & fence surfaces with plastic sheets to prevent rust.

Assembly was easy using the excellent instruction book supplied by Delta. Aligning the pulleys is tricky by yourself but would be simple with two people.

Each of the four motor mount screws has a split-ring lock washer and a flat washer. The hole in the flat washer is too large, allowing the tang of the lock washer to wedge into the hole, thus rendering the lock washer ineffective. To fix the problem, I replaced the standard flat washers that came with the machine with SAE flat washers having a smaller I.D. (barely larger than the screw). Too bad Delta scrimps on such a cheap part, but I've seen this with other machines made outside of the U.S.

To support the weight of the fence, there is a small two-inch long tab on the bottom edge of the casting which rests on the bed. This iron tab scrapes across the bed as the fence is moved back & forth. I bonded a thin nylon strip (could be Teflon) to the bottom of the tab so that the fence slides harmlessly on the nylon pad rather than metal-on-metal which marks the bed. Another simple improvement Delta could make.

Overall though, a great machine for the money. With a reduced price, no sales tax, free shipping, a spare set of knives for free, Delta's $100 MIR, and a 5-year warranty, it's a sweet deal. I will write another review of the Jointer after I use it for a few months.

Click on the Delta 50-333 mobile base and read my review there to learn of a small problem with that item.

  5. The jointer is a very good product for the price. Was simple to put together and install. There was very little adjustment to be performed. The jointer is smoother running and fairly quiet. I would recommend this product.

1 comments about Stanley Hand Tools 95-146 High-Power Tripod Flashlight.

  1. Stanley manufactures several versions of tripod type flashlights. The unique design allows for the flashlight to be hand held like a normal flashlight, or built-in legs can be released to form a tripod that supports the light head. When setup on the tripod, the head is adjustable through a range of about 190 degrees, and can be aimed at a specific target. The 95-146 model has a single LED that produces a very intense, white beam of light. Brightness is stated as 40 lumens, and the LED has a rated life of 100,000 hours, and can operate at two different levels of brightness. The light beam is fairly tight and narrow. Being able to adjust the beam spread would be a very useful feature, unfortunately this is not possible. Instead of being able to evenly light an area, you get a super bright spot, which is less than ideal. Still a flashlight that is stable, and capable of being precisely aimed, is an extremely useful tool.

The tripod legs are hollow aluminum tubes, designed to each accommodate three AA batteries. The flashlight will operate on either three, six or nine batteries, with the light output remaining constant. Rated run times are 30 hours using three batteries, 60 hours using six, and 90 hours using nine cells. Be advised that there is very little tolerance in the diameter of the legs. It is a tight fit, but most normal AA batteries will usually slide in, however rechargeable NiMH AA batteries, which are often slightly larger in diameter, may either be too big to slide in, or get stuck inside the leg. So be careful! The legs fold down around a rubber-like grip to form the handle. When fully loaded with nine batteries, the flashlight can be rather heavy.

The unit appears to be resistant to moisture. Although the head and the legs caps are hard plastic, with rubber bumpers, durability may be open to question. Hopefully the light will not be easily damaged, or break a leg off, if dropped. If the LED fails or breaks, you will be looking at buying a replacement flashlight. If the LED lasts as long as it is supposed to, this could be very economical and useful light. If you are interested in this type of product, Stanley makes them in various sizes and styles, so find the one that best meets your needs.

  1. Don't get me wrong...This is a great scale. With the airlines being so tight on weights these days, its a must have. I just don't know if it is worth the 170.00 bucks?

  1. Had to return the first order as the miter slide for my saw was missing. Typical of Amazon, they were very quick and proactive in sending me a new one. Works good for being an inexpensive finger fence.

5 comments about DEWALT DW073KD 1/4-Inch at 100 Feet Manual Level 9.6-Volt to 18-Volt Ni-Cad Cordless Interior/Exterior Rotary Laser Kit.
  1. I am an advanced amateur carpenter/builder living on a small horse ranch in Southern California. I bought my DW073KD at Lowe's on an impulse and am in love with the darn thing. I do recognize the notion that self-leveling units are easier to operate. But I have been working with bubble levels all my life and feel very comfortable doing the manual setup. I am doing a remodel in my guest house and have used the unit for everything from laying out recessed lighting to plumbing out a new door in a new wall. The battery power works great and it mates up well with my 12-volt Dewalt drill and trim saw. Went to Lowes last night to buy the tripod and grade rod, then surveyed my property in the dark. Awesome.
P.S. If you are an automation freak, by all means get the latest automatic unit. But if you have craftsman genes, this is a great device.

  2. I am glad to have made the purchase. It works great and it is not that hard to get level. I use it to dig footings and it works great.

  3. This little DeWalt jewel has been a lifesaver. It's cut the time to frame out a deck or joist system in half. I love it. No complaints.

  4. This was a good buy and it was sent quickly and arrived in good condition.

  5. This laser level performs as advertised. It was very easy to set up and use in both the horizontal and vertical modes. The lasers seem bright, but were very hard to see outdoors, and impossible in bright sunlight. I will be keeping the product for use indoors only.

  1. I have been using this tool for a while now and I am highly impressed with it's performance. It's almost like using a power tool. It cuts very fast and doesn't lift the grain to badly, instead cutting smooth miniature chisel grooves about 1/32" deep. I used it to sculpt some cypress for a tool handle recently, and it worked very well for that task (although, admittedly, cypress is a softer wood). I'm not sure I wood attempt to use it for stripping paint or finish off of a window sill as is shown on the cardbord insert that comes with the tool due to the fact that the blade is a curved plate and is therefore rather difficult to make a flat or flush cut with. For sculpting or heavy surface wood removal however, I can think of few finer tools for the job especially if you enjoy the feeling of working wood with your hands and not nessesarily a power tool. On a level surface though, I would just use a hand plane or cabinet scraper.

  2. Having used the product as shown on the cardboard insert, there is only one positive thing to say. Gouging my wood has never been easier, faster, or safer. It has given me lots to practice to hone my wood filler skills.

5 comments about Milescraft 1097 Rotary Tool Drill Press Stand.
  1. This Drill Press has been a great addition to my shop. It was very simple to set up, takes up very little space on the workbench and allows a tighter degree of detail-work from the Dremel. Some reviewers criticize this tool because it does not measure up to a "real" drill press, which I think is entirely true...and entirely irrelevant. If I had a huge amount of money and unlimited space in my shop, I would overlook this tool in favor of an "industrial strength" drillpress, but for my needs as a general "hobbyist", with a humble budget and limited space, this tool is a GREAT addition to my shop and I am very happy that I bought it.

  2. This is a great stand, I had heard mixed reviews of Dremel's own stand so I decided to go with this one instead. I'm glad I did. I own the XPR and as this stand comes the XPR will not fit. However, if you email, or phone Dremel they will send you an adapter, free of charge! The adapter fits great and the stand is very precise for the price.

  3. This stand is much sturdier than I expected, as many of the other dremel attachments out there are plastic and flimsy feeling. In addition to being able to use this as a mini drill press, this is excellent as flexible shaft stand.

  4. The tightening screw on the press I ordered has no threads to thread into the carrier rendering the press completely and utterly useless. The carrier just rests at the base and has no support. Be wary and buy at the store so you can check it out first.

  5. I bought this for the purpose of drilling printed circuit boards with my Dremel tool. P.C. board drilling requires tiny drill bits, which must be run at very high speeds. The Dremel is perfect for this, except that it has to be stand-mounted. Any movement at all while drilling will cause the drill bit to snap.

My overall opinion of this stand is that it's barely suited to do the job. It's flimsy, but far better than the stand that Dremel makes, which I consider to be a total piece of junk.

The drill center column was covered in a fine coat of rust straight out of the box. The stand does have mounting holes and slots, which I consider a plus. Mounting grommets (for vibration?) were also supplied. My Dremel tool fit nicely into the mount, no problem. The instructions were not too good, but assembly is very easy.

If you want a quality miniature high-speed drill, this is not for you, but prepare to shell out $250 or more for one. If you want something that's just enough to do the job, this should be suitable.
