5 comments about All in One Clamp A-50 50-Inch Grip Clamp Guide w/T-track.
  1. 6/22/08 Ordered this item on April 24th 2008 and it was promptly received. Upon examination I noticed that it would not work. Returning the item was not an option, so I looked up e emerson tool online and was happy to find a useful website with exploded views of their tools. It was obvious that the tool was missing a part. An e-mail was sent and I waited.... On may 22nd I received a reply stating that they were short handed and they were sorry that it took so long to get back to me. I was assured that the part was now in the mail.... As of 6/22/08 no part has arrived, I have sent a couple of e-mails to emerson in the last few weeks and have received no reply. Most small companies I deal with try to ensure that customer service is taken care of quickly. I have no problem allowing for a company being "short handed". But, this low level of service is unusual, especially during difficult times. A satisfied customer will tell a couple of people, an unsatisfied customer will tell everyone they meet! The tool looks like it might work well, I have no way of knowing. And do not plan to try their other items.

  2. The product is useful, and speeds up panel cuts (etc), but it is far from perfect.

When cutting a sheet of 4-foot-wide 3/4" plywood, it clamps securely, but the guide can flex significantly if you push too hard in the middle, resulting in a cut that is not straight. The less wide the wood, the less of an issue this is.

I was able to push mine more than the reported 1/16" in the middle when used across a sheet of plywood (4'). To me, ANY amount of flexing is a problem, because it is inevitable that I have to push the tool against the edge while cutting. However, use of the optional tool guides presumably reduces the problem, because when using them you don't have to push against the guide.

Another reviewer suggested clamping a piece of the wood to support the middle of the straight-edge. A good solution, but it takes away from the instant-setup convenience this tool is said to offer.

Years ago I bought an aluminum straight edge called Cutters Edge II. I can't find it in google so I assume it is no longer available. It was substantially more rigid than this one, and it came in two 4' lengths which could be joined together. However, its clamping system was much less convenient than this one.

I have not tried it yet, but I suspect this guide would not work well for very thin sheets, such as plywood less than 1/4". Because the clamps rely on edge-to-edge force, thin sheets have the potential to bow with this kind of clamping force applied.

The All-in-One Clamp Guide seems to be best suited to 90-degree cuts, yet they do not have any means of ensuring that the cut will be square. There is a squaring attachment (wide jaws), but measuring and/or checking with a square will still be required.

I only just learned about the "Ultra" model that is 100 inches long. That's the tool I really need (for ripping sheets), and I wish I had bought it instead. Being wider, it should flex less, however with its longer span, it is more subject to flexing. But it's expensive, and I could easily build my own jig, albeit using clamps that are not as quick to use, but with immeasurable flexing.

  3. This is great for ripping 4'x8' sheets of plywood. Ignore any of the recommended accessories except for the wide jaws. The saw and router guides are really cheap and you really don't need them anyway.

  4. I have been thinking about getting one of these for a long time. I finally ordered the 50" & 24" the 50" came today & it is the best guide I have ever bought. I will definitly get the 99" & 36".

  5. Decent design, but it doesn't always clamp very straight. Therefore, you end up with a less that squarecut. I wouldn't use this for cutting down the length of a door if you're going for square. Decent for the price, though I'd rather pay more for the Tru-grip models.

  1. This battery was a Makita 9.6 volt - Brand new condition and of recent manufacture date.

  2. These old style Makita battery's arived in short order and performed just like the new one's I bought eight years ago. Great products... Thanks Amazon

  3. i have tryed come cheaper battery of a dollar or two, the brand battery is so much better.

  4. My new makita drill came with the new nimh batteries which would not hold a charge for more than five minutes so I am switching back to the old style nicads which have served me well through many years of use. I have three of the batteries and they are great. I have two of the new type batteries and they are junk.

  5. I am very fond of my old Makita stick style tools. The Nicad batteries keep their charges a remarkably long time even though stored in the garage. They just keep on going. The stick style suits my petite hands unlike the boxy batteries that I can barely get my hand around to remove. The drills got a good work out on my new deck. Also love that little circular saw. And the hedge trimmer comes in handy a couple of times a year. Thought about upgrading to the new Makitas (that drill is smooth!) but I just can't justify the cost when the old tools continue to perform so well. And by the way I am at least the second owner of all these tools. Love Makita.

  1. These blades are great even cheaper than on ebay . You have to buy a three pack but well worth it.

  2. For old house restoration this tool and these blades are a "must have" item. I kind of wish someone else would offer a slightly cheaper alternative. These original blades work well, though. Not a substitute for circular and saber saws- but once in a while you need the type of cut that only this saw blade can perform ( thight, small spaces- door jams, etc).

  3. What can I say? I purchased them for my husband, who is restoring a boat, and he loves them! Perfect for the job he is doing. Thanks!

  4. WE PURCHASED THE FEIN TOOL (AND THESE ADDITIONAL BLADES) JUST AS WE WERE BEGINNGING FINISHING OUR BASEMENT - THIS TOOL REALLY CAME IN HANDY AS A CUTOFF SAW FOR CORNERS OF TRIM THAT WOULD BE VERY DIFFICULT TO CUT TO THE CORRECT SIZE BEFORE INSTALLATION - WE WERE ABLE TO MAKE THE CUTS AFTER INSTALLATION! GREAT TOOL!

  5. product cuts soft metal well but screws and nails just okay; blades do not last long and are relatively expensive

5 comments about Porter-Cable 343K 5-inch Random Orbit Sander Kit - Hook & Loop Pad.
  1. After shopping for some time for the perfect sander to fit my needs, I can truly say that the Porter Cable 343K has not dissappointed me. It's tough, quiet, easy to use, small-hand friendly, and it has made work fun! I was very impressed with it's power and handling. It made quick work of the job at hand and I look forward to using it in many more projects!

  2. I worked for over an hour hand-sanding a coffee table I built for our deck out of some pretty rough lumber, and was getting nowhere fast. This great little random orbital sander arrived in the nick of time, and I finished the whole table in about 15 minutes, with much better looking results. It will get a lot of use around here. As a female woodworker, I sometimes have trouble using tools that are too big for my hands. This one fits fine and was very easy to control. Love the easy clean-out feature, too. Highly recommended, and couldn't beat the price. I also ordered the multi-pack of sanding disks, and they work great.

  3. I've owned both Porter Cable & Dewalt orbital sanders and still own both. I have never liked this push on type of dust canister as they always blow off while sanding and dust goes everywhere.

PORTER CABLE/DELTA - Go back to your old style, PLEASE!!!

I've needed a couple of new sanders but refuse to buy these now because of the dust canister. I love the sanders...just hate the canister connections.

  4. Unit seems to work well overall but does seem to BOG down on occasion.
Maybe it needs a little more capacity OR it's at my end. The tool deos
    do a nice finishing job.-----Brian

  5. Having used this sander for many hours in the last year, I can say it works well. Powerful, ergonomically well designed and sturdily built. I especially lke the dust port which easily hooks up to shop vac. This makes the sander virtually dust free, a very important feature for me.

5 comments about Bosch 1640VS Finecut 3.5 Amp Power Handsaw.
  1. I'm in the process of laying laminate flooring in a rental property. All goes well until I hit the doorways then everything comes to a halt as I struggle to hand cut the door jambs. By the time I'm done I'm nearly conked out. Well, I had to get this thing quick to save my sanity and it works as advertised.

Some tips I feel I should give. 1. Keep firm control of this thing. At times it can "run" away from you. 2. Use the lowest speed that give an adequate cut in order to avoid number 1.

Great tool that has made my day.

  2. Its better than cutting off all the door trim and jambs by hand but only just. The switch is either on or off and the variable speed is a separate wheel. It is unsafe as well as difficult to operate. With the saw turned on, the operater is handling a dangerous tool that could easily cut him. If the switch was designed like a drill switch the operater would have more control and variable speed.
    Blade change is easy.

  3. Great product when installing new flooring over old. The door trim is easy to cut without removing it. Makes a difficult job easy and short. I really like this saw. Bosch 1640VS Finecut 3.5 Amp Power Handsaw

  4. My primary use for this tool is cutting exotic woods into pieces, to be used for craft projects. I obviously need a tool that will cut smoothly, with little or no splintering.

I find that I can get nice, smooth cuts, with a minimum of effort and time. To say it goes through wood like a hot knife through butter is a bit of an exaggeration, but not much of one. The hand tool this replaces is a back saw, which would also make smooth cuts, but more slowly and with a greater degree of "elbow grease."

Frankly, I am near 50, with a bad back and slightly arthritic hands, so it is essential to make the work easier. And, it is fair to say that if I can use this comfortably, anyone who is willing to read the directions can do so.

    A couple of caveats:
1)At 3.5 pounds, it is not heavy. But if you are used to making fine cuts with a hand saw, you will have to get used to the weight.
2)It doesn't vibrate much, which makes it easy to handle. But face facts; it's a power tool. There will be some vibration.
3)Unless you buy the kit with the miter attachment, they do not sell a case for it. But a 16-inch tool box will do just fine.

A couple of things I really like:
1)The On/Off switch is a bit stiff. This is a GOOD thing, because it is hard to turn on or off, unintentionally.
2)The speed is variable. The speed dial is separate from the power switch. Some people may not like this, but I do, because it is also hard to change speed unless you actually want to.
3)Changing blades is simple and needs no tools.
4)Because it makes fine cuts, it does not blow dust all over. (Of course there will be some, but it doesn't blow in my face. I still suggest safety goggles, of course.)

I haven't actually used it for home repairs or cut metal with it, though I will eventually get the metal-cutting blade. On the whole, a good product.

  5. Very pleased with how straight a cut I get, and how fine a cut I get in thin plywood going across grain. A little awkward to handle, but with practice I believe this complaint will go away. Definitely more precise cuts than with a hand-held fine-tooth saw. It is important to keep the blade angle low to the cut, as their directions point out. I would strongly recommend this saw to anyone working with thin plywood.

  1. This is one of those tools that you wish you had invented yourself. I've hung several items and it made hanging things easer. It kept my hand out of danger and I like it. This is worth every cent I spent.

  2. These two"holders" protect your fingers from being damaged while trying to hold small nails, brads, staples, screws and the like. You can also use these tools to "reach" spots that your fingers cannot, so starting the above items in tight areas is a much easier procedure... I made a prototype of this tool a few years ago but never got it made; I'm glad these folks did, so I could buy theirs... One improvement would be for the smaller tool to fit inside the larger tool saving some storage space.

  3. Great for holding nails in those hard to get places. Equally as great for using small nails that are hard to get a hold on. Great idea and great product.

5 comments about Bosch 1591EVSK 6.4 Amp Barrel Grip Jigsaw.
  1. I needed more horsepower in a jigsaw than the small Makita I have had for years. I was really questioning the barrel grip, but because of the good ratings, I ordered this one over the the one with the standard handle. When it came out of the box, it felt too heavy/ackward in my hand, and I was afraid I had made a mistake. But as soon as I tried it out, I was extremely impressed. It felt good in my hand (I have small hands). The control was excellent, and I like the blower that blows the dust out of the way, although you may want to sometimes wear goggles. The quality of control and cut is excellent. I know it is a lot of $$, but if you do much jig sawing or need high quality cuts, it is worth it.

  2. I came to this jigsaw from an older B&D Professional. That was not a bad saw, but the lateral blade support was not in the same caliber as this one's.

The smoothness is also unrivalled, as is the blade change mechanism. I never realized how sweet the electronic speed control would be until I'd used it. One simply sets the right speed, switches the saw on, and goes to work. It simply doesn't slow down under load due to the beefy 6.4 A motor.

The only time I'd recommend against the barrel grip version is if you do a lot of vertical cutting. In that position, this saw is harder to hold onto, because the motor is so big in diameter. When working flat, it is not na issue.

The dust blower works great too; no more huffing and puffing trying to keep the cut line clear. The cord is a high grade rubber one that doesn't get all stiff when it is cold. This may just be my last jigsaw. (and I'm only 31)

  3. I am a woodworker and this 1591 is the finest jig saw that i have ever used. It is powerful and it is accurate. The blade guides are very similar to what you would find on a band saw making it possible to split a pencil line and have a true 90 degree cut.

With the correct blade, I believe you can cut just about anything in any shape that you want to.

I chose the 1591 over the 1590 because I find the barrel grip suites me better for the majority of my tasks.

  4. This is the best jig saw on the market, considering price/value. I researched many brands and kept returning to Bosch because of the reputation of the brand. The barrel grip configuration is very comfortable to use; it gives me better control over cuts, especially when scrolling. The adjustments on the saw give you the capability to vary the cut from very fine to very aggressive; blade control is excellent. I'm a woodworker, so I purchased Bosch T30W 30pc Woodworking Jigsaw Set when I ordered this jig saw.

  5. Sawing for a short period of time is very acceptable but with prolonged use (over an half hour) the motor heats up so hot that you can barely hold onto the saw. A cool down period of up to 20 min is adequate for another 10 or minutes use, then the heating up begins again. Never had this trouble with any other jig saw but might have to do with the fact that you are holding this saw by the motor, not some accessory handle. Like the blade changing, best I have used but the heat is not acceptable.

  1. I absolutely love these brackets. But!!! I had to run to the hardware store to purchase the bolts needed to secure these brackets to my saw. I would strongly suggest to Dewalt to include the hardware for future sales.

  2. Nice product but throw in the bolts Dewalt. It needs four 5/16" x 2" carriage bolts like someone else pointed out. Throw in four 5/16" flat washers and four wing nuts and you have a nice solution. I love the HW packaging too, they put 3 wingnuts in a plastic pack to make you buy two. Everyone is trying to screw the guy on the bottom out of the green stuff :) It all costs about $3 at HD and for the guy who said we are whiners complaining about the bolts it is not the $3 and heck probably $5 when you factor in the gas for my truck, however it is a big waste of a 45 minutes of my time to go fetch something that should be thrown in to start with. This hardware set I listed might not work for every saw but it will work for most and for sure my Dewalt saw. In high quantity these parts probably would cost Dewalt less than a $1, just add dollar to it's over priced tag to begin with and be done with it Dewalt. Bad PR for a lousy $1 worth of HW.

  3. Nice product but throw in the bolts Dewalt. It needs four 5/16" x 2" carriage bolts like someone else pointed out. Throw in four 5/16" flat washers and four wing nuts and you have a nice solution.

  4. I needed a second set of these for another saw. Great product. Another good job by Dewalt.

  5. These things are great. First I had a set for my DeWalt miter saw, then I used another set to install a stone cutter on my miter workstation to get it up off the ground. I want a few more sets so that I can mount other useful tools where my old back can make better use of those tools.

5 comments about 33 pc. Security Bit Set.
  1. Good Idea Poor execution
I make knives from scratch and from kits. I got this bit set because the knife kits use Torx and the spanner style screws. The kit does not have a small enough Torx, and the torx that I used stripped out and crumbled when I used it on the pivot stud screw. This is not a high torque screw. The spanner bit also broke. The larger bits seem to hold up better BUT for the work I am doing it was a waste. Maybe I got a poor set and it was a fluke, but I was definitely not happy with the quality. The package is nice if only the quality matched.

  2. Works well with the Anytime 100 piece tool set. Here is how I feel about both:

I bought 5 sets of this product. One for myself and 4 for gifts. I gave on to my Dad, one to my brother, one to my father-in-law and one to my brother-in-law. Five stars from all of us.

I also bought this 33 piece security bit set to go with it. Both have come in handy with my iMac, Mac Book, Dell and Toshiba. The screwdriver has come in handy for big jobs too. I used it to install 5 closets worth of Elfa. It's a great screwdriver for any size job. Sturdy and well made. Has a magnetic head, which helps with the little stuff.

I put my old flat and phillips head screwdrivers in storage. Now I only carry this one with the bit sets in my Bucket Boss.

    Great product.

  3. I bought this set mostly for the tri-wing bits so I could use it with my Nintendo gear, but the tri-wing bits are tapered instead of flat, and so don't fit into Nintendo screws. I'm sure I'll find a use for the bits eventually...

  4. The price and transport cost make it a very expensive ^product that I found in a local store much more cheper

  5. When I ordered this security set it was only for one of the drivers but at the price it was a bargain and not only do I get the bit I wanted but it also has a tri-wing bit that is used on the Wii and a few other systems, overall a great set for a great price.

  1. I bought my boyfriend a 5 Milwalkee piece tool set four years ago and the batteries have worn out, he was so happy to plug this one in and have charge. It was a good deal at this price, I had been pricing them at $75. and thought that was a bit much. thank you.

  2. This battery seems to hold up well. I think it is well worth the money. I will buy this battery again if the price stays close to what I purchased this one for.

  3. I was happy to find this battery on Amazon. I checked other websites and a battery shop. It cost much less buying it from here. Shipping was quick and my husband loves the power it provides.

  4. I have had two of the original batteries supplied with a cordless drill die with bad cells. When they are working they work great. They last for years but then one day may not want to charge any longer.

  5. i have used the milwaukee tools using the 18 volt battery and they give great service in all types conditions. i see very little advantage to the new ion battery for most applications and plan on using this battery for my cordless saw and drill for a long timr
