4 comments about Ceramic Tile: Selecting, Installing, Maintaining (Smart Guides).
  1. This book has very few pictures, but many useful tips. I gave it only 2 stars because I would have liked to see how the tips and instructions translated into actual bathrooms. I did not find this book to be very inspiring, but it might be more useful to someone who is remodeling their bathroom.

  2. This is a good how-to book. Clear step-by-step photos and instructions that are easy to follow. If you are looking for ideas and tile layouts keep looking.

  3. I have been searching for the perfect book on tiling and finally I have found it. I have never done this before and have several projects in my home that I want to complete (floors, countertop, fireplace) and this is the first book that covers each one. This is a brief look into what the book holds:
    1. Tile Basics (characteristics, sizes/shapes, room prep)
    2. Tools and Matrials (prep tools, cutting tools, setting tools, basic materials)
    3. Tiling floors
    4. Tiling walls
    5. Tiling countertops
    6. Tiling tubs and showers
    7. Indoor projects
    8. Outdoor projects
    9. Repairs and maintenance
The pictures and illustrations are clear and easy to follow. I also like that the pictures are relatively up to date and modern looking. In short, this book has set me up to succeed in all of my tiling projects.

  4. The book arrived in average condition at best and was clearly read and the cover was dog-eared and showed signs of typical use. The service was good and was shipped within 48 hours.

5 comments about Remodel or Move?: Make the Right Decision.
  1. This has been one of the most helpful sources of information for my husband and I to decide about our housing situation. The charts and sugesstions for dealing with all possiblies really was an extraordinary insite into many challeges that face such a decision.

  2. If you are on the fence and not sure if it makes more sense to remodel or to move this book is the perfect resource. It is full of useful information on making a move or on how to go about a remodel. Not only has it helped with the decision but it has given me the tools I need to get started on my remodel.

  3. This book is a must have if you are trying to decide whether to move or make changes to your existing home. It is especially nice because it is written in an easy-to-read manner... so someone like me who knows nothing about remodeling can actually understand the information, thus helping with this big decision.

  4. I bought the book late into my remodel, and when I used the Remodel or Move calculator, it came so close to the actual costs of the remodel, it was amazing to me. I noticed that The Bay Area Independent Publishers Association named Remodel or Move, Make the Right Decision, as the best real estate/home improvement book. The book has been praised by Better Homes & Gardens and the New York Post, and I can see why. It contains strategies and tactics designed to help homeowners work through the decision process. There is a combination of unbiased reference materials and no-nonsense advice, based on the author's extensive remodeling experience and by his consultation with other real estate and construction industry experts. I highly recommend it if you're trying to decide whether to remodel or move. Remodeling turned out to be the right decision for me, and the book helped me justify the costs involved.

  5. Has your home stopped working for you? Usually homeowners think that means moving time - but remodeling is also an option, and REMODEL OR MOVE? MAKE THE RIGHT DECISION offers one of the few remodel books to consider the pros and cons of different projects. Chapters explore when to make changes and when to consider selling, offering tips on how to avoid costly options, how to lower costs, and how to make a decision. From gut feelings to real experiences, REMODEL OR MOVE is the first step a homeowner should make in the decision process.

3 comments about Residential Housing & Interiors Student Activity Guide.
  1. This book is perfect for a homeowner that is considering designing their own home. Beginning students of architecture will find this book excellent leading to an overall understanding of the aspects necessary for a good residential home design.

This book provides the basics that will allow easy progression to specialized books in architectural design, residential structural engineering, construction and interior design. I read this book after I had read other design and architectural books, but wished I had read this book first. For example, read Residential Housing and Interiors then read Architecture: Residential Drawing and Design.

The explanations of design and construction concepts are well written, and the graphics and photos are outstanding.

  2. This is a college textbook, but it is a great book for anyone interested in the nuts and bolts of interior design. Very informative, up-to-date, and a great place to start your education in the profession of interior design.

  3. The book was in excellent condition...pretty much brand new, except it was the wrong book intended. It never said anything about being the workbook.

2 comments about Quick Guide: Attics: Step-by-Step Construction Methods (Quick Guide).
  1. This book takes you from step one (sizing up the project) through wiring, plumbing, stairs, walls, skylights, ceilings and sub-floors.

My only regret is that it tells you nothing about how to choose and put down a finished floor. But having just turned my attic into a living space, I can say with authority that it is an excellent resource, especially if you're the general contractor for the job.

  2. Mark Feirer has given the novice Do-It Yourself homeowner an easy to read, step by step guide to attic renovation. "Attics" not only shows how to build floors, walls, ceilings, and dormers; it also covers wiring and plumbing. The part of the book that I found most useful was the chapter on Sizing Up the Project. It is here that Mark gives the reader information to help determine if an attic has the right demensions and meets building codes for renovation. The book is also filled with many detailed illustrations. If your thinking about changing your attic space into living space, this is the book for you!

3 comments about Kitchen And Bath Idea Book.
  1. I can look at pictures anytime. There is no "how to" design information nor how you can alter or rearrange your own bathrooms. The average American home is practical and utilitarian...not high priced, hard-to-find items.

  2. This book is very helpful when it comes to picking the right products for both the kitchen and the bath. The pictures are amazing. I own several books with decorating ideas and I must say that this is one of the best.

  3. This is an idea book - not a contractors or a how to book. We are custom building a home which will end up costing several hundred thousand dollars.

Even a small idea from a book such as this can be invaluable. We got a few great ideas. Our master bath is based on an idea suggested here.
