- i find this book very illustrated in the constrction of building outdoor crafts. it is very defined in the exact measurements in every cut with precision. i would recommend this book to any person in the beginning and skilled nature of wood working.
- While this book has some very beautiful gliders, rockers, and chairs, it was not designed for a beginner in woodworking. I had trouble with the terminology used and wouldn't even attempt these projects. In addition the book has an over abundance of bird houses and feeders (9 patterns). So if you are looking to build easy, strait forward lawn furniture this is not the book for you.
- This book has some good designs for outdoor furniture, including a swing, double rocker, two part patio chair, and an outdoor chair and table. Good, complete instructions are included and the size can be easily modified to meet your needs.
The reason I didn't rate this as five stars is that the book also includes way too many bird houses and a whirligig. Personally, I feel that bird houses and whirligigs should be banned from these kind of books. The book isn't too expensive so I feel that the worthwhile designs are worth the price. If you want some good designs for a swing, rocker, and a few other items, buy this book.
- I bought this book because I needed some new patio furniture. The price of 'store bought' furniture is so exhorbitant, I asked my husband to make this for me. I bought the wood and waited for over 6 months. I ended up making it myself...(and I cannot usually saw a board in half with a hand saw!!). I found the directions fairly straightforward. I made my patio chairs and they look good if I must say so myself! My next project is to make a dog house for my husband..

- I just bought this book a few days ago and it's already dog-eared! I am so thrilled! The format is supberb, the information is right on and it's detailed but not overwhelming or overly technical. Great photos, too!
I can't say enough about this book. I HIGHLY recommend it to anyone even if you don't have a deck, patio or balcony! The info can work for backyards, front yards, whatever!!! Go get it! It's worth the [money].

1 comments about American Horticultural Society Practical Guides: Walls & Fences.
- I've built quite a few stone walls, picket and lattice fences, but lacked the inside tips and foundation provided by a mentor. This book has righted all the wrongs and helped me construct professional-quality pieces that last! This AHS guide is just another example of how generous gardeners, in partnership with the astonishingly talented DK publishing group, help fellow gardeners achieve their unique and very personal visions. We also own the AHS Great Plant Guide, an immensely handy little pocket reference.

5 comments about What Color Is Your Swimming Pool? The Guide to Trouble-Free Pool Maintenance.
- As a new pool owner, with no prior experience in pool care, I did not find this book to be particularly helpful. The book had a lot of information on what things were, and what needed to be done in terms of problem solving. Unfortunately the book neglected to share with readers how to do it. I would not recommend this book to new pool owners.
- I use this book as a training tool and give one to each of my customers in which I build a pool. New and perspective pool owners need to learn a crash course in pool care and maintenance to preserve the beauty of their investment. I have had a much easier job of educating my customers and in the end, they are much happier. This book is a must for all pool owners that care what water can do to their investment.
- I bought a house with a pool in the backyard and I had no idea what to do with it. This book really helped me become familiar with the general pool maintenance and how filters, pumps, chemicals, etc work. I still had to call in a pool company to help me open the pool for the first summer, but reading this book helped me understand what they were doing and ask the right questions.
I've also referred to this book a few times for troubleshooting information. While it isn't specific to my particular pool configuration, it points me in the right direction.
- This is a book for people who know nothing about swimming pools and who are thinking of getting one or who need to maintain an existing pool.
The book starts with some basics - the types of pools that exist, water characteristics and treatment - and continues to explain the equipment that comes with a pool. This includes filtration systems, pumps and motors etc. The book closes discussing winterizing and opening up the pool as well as faces-lifts repairs etc. Of course, there is also a chapter on pool-safety. I really liked the book, as it was well-written (easy to read) and seemed to cover all the essentials, getting me knowledgeable enough to handle the pool in my garden. The book is full of illustrations that help to explain the workings of the different parts that come with a pool. As the book at every stage discusses the various types of pools and equipment that exist, the book can also be a real help when trying to decide what kind of pool to get. So, if you are a pool-beginner (pro will need a different level), get this book! The cost are negligeable to those that you can incur from miss-managing your pool.
- This is very thorough for in ground pools, but has little to do with above ground and certainly knows nothing about winterizing in the Norhteast.

5 comments about Sprinklers & Watering Systems (Garden Maintenance).
- Scotts Sprinklers & Watering Systems is a complete and thoroughly "user friendly" guide to planning and installing landscape irrigation for the home. Profusely illustrated, this "how to manual covers every aspect of planning out a sprinkling system to be as cost efficient to install as it would be to operate. Included in the planning process are detailed materials and equipment comparisons as this superbly organized "how to" manual takes the homeowner and do-it-yourselfer through the planning and design process from beginning to end. Then the reader is taken step-by-step through the installing process with clear instructions and illustrative photography which will eliminate any operational problems later one. Also included is the maintenance, care and upkeep of the installed watering system including occasional repairs and replacement of parts. Finally there is an invaluable section on using the installed water system, getting the right amount of water in the right place at the right time. If you are wanting to include a sprinkler or other kind of watering system as part of your landscaping, then give a close and careful reading to Scotts Sprinklers & Watering Systems -- it will save you not only time and money, but help you to avoid aggravation and error!
- A very good book for the homeowner with a sprinkler system. Lots of good info on how systems work, and how they can be modified. Worth the money.
- This book has a detailed description of just about anything you can think of when it comes to installing your own sprinkler system. From planning bluelines to selecting sprinkler head types, it covered all bases. I was a totally new to the world of sprinkler installation when I read this, and now I feel like a pro!
- I couldn't be happier with this sprinkler.
It's very nice to be able to point the heads in separate directions.
The quality is top rate.
Be sure to get more than one though as it's not practical to try to move it to different spots in you yard or garden.
You don't want to be resetting the directions of you sprinkler heads all the time.
It does take a little bit of time to begin with to get them adjusted to where you want them to go.
I'm going to be buying more of these and my daugher is going to buy some for her yard as well.
- I planned to re-do my sprinkler system, and was looking for tips on irrigation. There is a lot for commercial use here, which I didn't need.
All in all, I did not find the book useful, so hired a guy to do the work.
