1 comments about Farnam #14680 Captivator Fly Trap.
- I got one of these just to try it near my rabbit's pen. The pheromone bait that comes with it didn't do anything worth mentioning here, so I began to doubt the efficacy of the design. Boy, was I wrong! When the original dose dried out, I tried rehydrating it a couple of times, but only lured 5 or 6 flies into the trap. On a whim, I dumped in some beef blood from a package of hamburger I was opening. I added about a half-jar of water to the 3/4 cup of blood, and dropped in a bit of raw meat, too. Three days later the jar is so full of flies I'm going to have to empty it and start over! Sex pheromones are all well and good, but flies are drawn to the scent of decay, and "blood in the water" takes on a whole new meaning in this context! Try it! I don't know how the 'one-way' top operates, and I don't really care. They're going in, and they're not coming back out! Now I have to find a way to open it so the live ones don't just fly out and get away when I empty the dead ones and refill the trap. Any ideas?

2 comments about Poulan 16-Inch 3 HP Electric Chainsaw #1630.
- Bought this about 6 months ago, have used it only once for about an hour. Works well on fallen limbs. I look forward to when the weather warms up when I can attempt to fell a tree with it.
Only drawback is the manual oiling mechanism. One must pump a button once every minute or sooner to keep bar and chain properly lubricated.
Not a bad piece of equipment for the price.
- The Poulan 1630 is an absolutely bare-bones chainsaw. This tool has no frills or extra features. It is just a simple little chainsaw.
At the time of this posting, the Amazon product description claimed the Poulan 1630 chainsaw has an auto-oiling system. This is not true. The Poulan 1630's chain must be oiled after every ten seconds of use by holding down the oil cap button for three seconds. This is an inconvenience that distracts the chainsaw operator. I think we all agree that distractions should be kept to a minimum when using a chainsaw.
The designers of the Poulan 1630 must have spent very little time on ergonomics. The chainsaw's left-hand grip is very small and may cause hand cramping after several minutes of continual use. The safety switch is awkwardly located, forcing the right thumb to thrust forward during operation.
Safety features are minimal, and the hand guard is too small.
The Poulan 1630 is inexpensive, but still fails to provide much value for the money. For 50% more money, you can probably find a much better chainsaw. (Just don't make the mistake of buying a McColloch.)
