1 comments about Buying a Property Italy, 2nd (Buying a Property - Cadogan).
- The book is informative and an excellent resource though some information is not correct and misleading. Many cautions and horror stories are stated but these facts apply to buying a home anywhere in the world. Dodgy real-estate agents, tradesmen and sellers can also be found world-wide though the impression given is that they are concentrated in Italy. With regards to permits and planning permission it can take up to six months if the building is classified as a Historical building but if it is not a historical building a reply is given within three months. In Italy there is a lot of red-tape and the process of purchasing a property is very different to the English system though the best advice is to have the assistance of a lawyer and use your common sense. The most important thing I learnt when buying a home in Italy is to respect the people and there custom especially if you want to make friends in the community.....of course everyone knows everyone!

5 comments about Dr. Verne's Northern White Trash Etiquette.
- This book takes on two ripe targets: white trash and yuppies, and does so simultaneously in a clever and brazen way.
It's one of those rare books that makes fun of everything in its path, even the book itself. It's kind of an Archie Bunker meets Michael Moore sort of thing. And it's really, really funny.
- You don't have to DUMB DOWN to enjoy this hilarious read....A humouros book that can be read from back to front or front to back...HA! any page you turn to has GUFFA'S a plenty...Great Bathroom Read...Leave it in the bathroom for guests...Enjoyed thouroughly.Check out 10 tips for women who's ascared of getting stuck with a loser....ENJOY!
- I have to admit that I was a tab bit 'ascared' to pick up Dr. Verne's Northern White Trash Etiquette for fear someone would believe I had more to learn. But once I had it in hand, I couldn't put it down. Pages flew until I discovered the help I needed to straighten out my love life. '10 Tips for Women Who's Ascared of Getting Stuck With a Loser' has become my bible. I now know how to determine if the man I'm seeing is a regular pervert or a gentleman pervert. (He's a gentleman. I have the pastel plastic pearls to prove it!) But best of all, even with all of this learning going on, Verne has me in stitches. The good doctor knows his trash and puts all other self-help gurus to shame. It's a must read for the humor hungry, so be prepared to laugh.
- Bears do, and you will. The advice may not help you -- may not have helped Dr. Verne, for that matter -- but this is self-help with an attitude. The perfect antidote to Martha Stewart. The perfect read after a bad day at the office -- or the used car lot.
- This book is irreverently funny, particularly the part about treating your mother and father with respect if you ever expect to inherit the family's F-150 pickup. Hey, I own an F-150. My son laughed like crazy about that one. If you are looking for some fun, reading this book is a good choice; however, if you have trouble with sexual innuendos (spelling?)or a little foul language here and there, you may want to skip it.

5 comments about The Perfect Setting.
- This is a gorgeous book with lots of wonderful ideas for setting a perfect table for ANY occasion! I have always been so worked up over having to have EVERYTHING match that it would take me hours to decide on purchases for dinnerware, linens, centerpieces, etc. Many times I would just leave the store empty handed. Peri Wolfman and Charles Gold showed me that not only isn't it necessary for table items to match, it even looks more interesting and personal when they don't! Now I know I don't have to buy expensive tableware and serving items. Simple baskets and thrift store finds work wonders! This book covers everything from formal dinners to picnics to children's parties to large holiday settings to breakfast in bed! There is something in this book for everyone!
- I am very happy with my decision to buy this beautiful book and know that I will make great use of both its table settings and recipes well into the future. My only negative comment (and this is from a purely personal perspective) is that it contains more casual table settings than formal, the latter being what I was actually looking for when I purchased the book. But I am still very glad that I did.
- True, this is a very good book, and provides a "fix" for the dish junkies among us. However, it should be noted that it is a re-print of the 1985 eidition of the same volume, but with a different cover. So if you are looking for a different book or at least additional pictures, as I was, you will be disappointed. On the other hand, if you've always wanted the original, which I believe is out of print, this is your opportunity.
- I really enjoyed this book more than most of the books that I've purchased on the subject (I have thirteen). The pictures are fabulous and the variety of table settings is superb.
The only room the book has for improvement is the amount of instruction provided. In the future, the author should show us how to fold the napkins, give details on the spacing of the china and provide a few more "down to earth" settings. I've found table setting books that have this type of information to be the most helpful.
- White candles in green apples? Basket of oranges next to the freshly squeezed juice pitcher? I'm a fan of Wolfman and Gold's "A Place for Everything" and expected a lot more from this book including some detailed information about what constitutes the "perfect" setting and how to create a lovely table. Unfortunately, the place settings shown in this paperback version (a reprint but not an update of the 1985 hardcover) seem tired and worn out 20 years later. The photos are particularly disappointing - poorly lit and oddly flat with lots of shadows and blurred effects. Check out A Place for Everything but give this one a pass.

1 comments about Making Country Furniture: 15 Step-by-Step Projects.
- Country wood furniture is for this writer the epitome of form following function. This formula is presented by Mr. Buchannan in a beautiful and straight forward mannner. As a beginner in wood furniture construction, plans and techniques that can be understood and immediately applied are enabling and appreciated. Even the seemingly grand projects such as the Kneehole Desk are largely simple cuts for the structural pieces and a repeated simple creation for the drawers combined in a most elegant design. The photograhy by Mr Buchanan, Tony Boase and Jennie Brech present the pieces as well as leaving one feeling as if the portal into the centering world of country living has been opened.
The average do it yourself reader of this book will likely use power tools more than Mr. Buchanan has in his projects but as the plans are simple and well illustrated this difference will be easily handled and leave one feeling that a piece of truely unique furniture has been wrought from the earth.

5 comments about Complete Guide to Lock Picking.
- I would recommend this book very strongly to the beginner lock picker, a great book in explaining the basic art.
- The text covers a lot of useful and practical info, and it's worth reading just for that. But, the pictures are very simplistic line drawings that simply don't show enough detail in many cases.
- In the foreword, the author promises to teach you everything you need to learn to get started in locksmithing -- and he delivers! He describes picking and other bypass strategies for all the major varieties of keyed locks, plus numerous variations. Great for budding locksmiths, curious hobbyists, and people who want to know how that burglar managed to get into their houses.
The only complaint I can make about this book is that it's steep reading. Eddie's instructions are very compact -- maybe a little too compact. I can't stand overkill, but I think this may have been underkill. You really have to have an actual lock and tools in front of you in order to follow what he says. Perhaps more text and/or more numerous, better detailed, fully captioned diagrams would help.
- A friend of mine came over and managed to open my front door within ten minutes of his arrival. I was impressed. He said he'd started out with this little book and I paged through his well read copy before getting my own. I haven't managed to open a lock yet, but as Eddie advises, I haven't given up. I think it takes a certain mind set, and I'm working on it. Usually this kind of thing bores me, but Eddie the Wire (what a name!) writes in a way that keeps my interest going and I know I'm going to get it eventually. The Loompanics site has a lot of books like this or call 8003802230.
- For amateurs who are just interested in lock picking as a past time, this book is pretty good as it covers the normal locks that you will encounter in everyday life- pin tumblers, wafers and others, just the normal ones though.
the only thing bad about this book is that the information is too compact, sometimes even lacking in diagrams, but if u are one who are good at picturing with words, then this book is for you. it is scary to open the book with the pages filled with words!
just note that this book was printed in 1991 (or for some other reasons), do not expect paragraphing like the modern books.
key to lockpicking: patience, patience and more patience. it took me a week to open my first pin tumbler lock! and it only has 3 pins! adjust the torque wrench and ur pick.
