5 comments about Cleaning Plain & Simple: A ready reference guide with hundreds of sparkling solutions to your everyday cleaning challenges.
-
This book has great pictures and is
also very well organized. There is a
glossary in the back to easily find something
you need help or advice on such as vaccuming and
how to get certain stains out of your white shirts fast.
~Skurvy
- Tons of useful information, not only for cleaning, but also for getting organized in general.
- I like Donna's books. I have several of them. I guess it's the way she puts things. She just makes you feel good. She doesn't try to talk down to you. Nor does she make you feel like your a dummy. Or just over do it. I have many organizer books. I think she has the best way to clean & de-clutter. I hope you like it as much as I did.
- I cleaned my windows today using the Grandpa's Best Window-Washing recipe and it beats any other window cleaner I have used. For that alone I give this book 5 stars.
- This book is the best! I've cleaned all the big chores (in a weekend), the walls, the stove, the fridge... Every method used in this book works great!

5 comments about Taunton's Complete Illustrated Guide to Using Woodworking Tools (Complete Illustrated Guide).
- Overall this book is very well illustrated, it contains information on some tools and put an emphasis on hand tools.
The book is basically a catalog of the different tools and the basic techniques to use them.
I was expecting to at least have some discussions on how to set them up, and care for them. I was also hoping to find more detail discussion on how to chose a power tool (other than you can find some great bargain on used items).
There is a small section on sharpening but I guess you need to buy the book dedicated to the subject to go anywhere.
- Publications by Lonnie Bird are always excellent and informative to woodworkers, and this one achieves the same high level. I am enjoying reading Illustrated Guide to Using Woodworking Tools and looking forward to more time in the workshop with this publication.
- This is a good book. However, Lonnie Bird writes not as clear as Gary Rogowski, Andy Ray or especially Kelly Mehler. This is also applied to his "Band saw" book.
There is no clear analysis of cons and pros of different tools. Use of the tools does not contain alternative approaches too. He really thinks that only high end equipment is useful.
- I began woodworking about one year ago and started by taking some classes at the local woodworking store. I had the idea in my head to build a wooden chest and finding a good starting place was not easy. Most of the wood workers I encounter are all over the spectrum of skill. No one really had a comprehensive method for teaching woodworking or where to start with the tools of woodworking. I think that this book gives a great start when it comes to selection of necessary tools as well as some general knowledge of how to use them. Keep in mind that a book can not accurately describe the pressure and overall feel of how to use a Plane or any other tool for that matter. These kinds of skills must come from doing.
I have all the other Taunton press books in the "Complete Illustrated" set and I think that together I have a great reference set to begin designing and working with wood. They also all match each other and this makes my bookshelf look good as well. I would recommend the hardcover over the soft cover because it can be more easily used in the shop this way.

2 comments about Construction Estimating Using Excel.
- This book is for academia and not for any type of practical estimating. Heavy into the take-off and weak in pulling together an actual estimate. Problems are redudant and tedious. Very weak in Mechanical, Electrical or Plumbinng divisions
- It was a good book, helped me setup a data base for site work construction, create workbooks and calculate bid prices. Can be a very effective book if you take an excel class along with it. I would recommend it for anyone looking to save time in quantity takeoff, and labor calculations. Overall good book.

5 comments about Christmas With Southern Living 2007 (Christmas With Southern Living).
- This is another great cookbook/idea book from Southern Living. I haven't made any of the recipes yet, but I make something every year from the current year's book. They have all been awesome. I get great compliments on my cooking when using Southern Living recipes, especially the cakes.
- My daughter checked this book out from our local library. I think is so good I am ordering 4 copies, one for myself and one for each of my sister and sisters-in-laws. This book is full of EASY adorable, doable Christmas decorating and presentation ideas. The wrapped boxes are at my front door, and the cookies on a stick were a hit with the children at their Christmas party.
- I am so, so sad about this book, it's taken me a day to write this. I have come to depend on what I call my 'secret weapon' i.e. Southern Living for surprisingly innovative and always reliable recipes over the years. Their other Christmas editions and even the Homemade Holidays book are my stand bys this time of year.
I can't even believe they put their name on this. For one - where are all the recipes? It seemed decorating (and I'm sorry - I just don't see the need for 200 'tablescape' options...) took precedence over the food this year. And even worse - of the recipes there, two chapters were dedicated to my LEAST favorite topics involving food at this time of year - "Healthy" and "Express." Honestly to see a cake recipe using already made store bought cheesecake almost brought tears (of sorrow, not joy) to my eyes. Any other time of year, maybe (although that's not what I look to Southern Living for) but NOT the holidays! It's the time to dazzle and forget about all our normal worries and restrictions.
I had read the other reviews stating it wasn't up to par, but just couldn't believe them. If only I had... This copy will probably be headed to my local resale shop.
- Year after year Southern Living produced fantastic Christmas books... until this year. The decorations were gaudy and the Cowboy Christmas section was ghastly.
- I purchased this edition in late spring 2008, so I received a great, low price on the book. I did the same with the 2006 edition last year and have been pleased with each. There are numerous recipes that are worthwhile and I primarily use the Christmas edition for the baked goods and candy recipes and give them away as gifts. So far no complaints from any recipients!! Decorating tips spark enough interest to try and adapt one or two of the ideas for the holidays. Will continue to purchase yearly.

5 comments about Home Quick Planner: Reusable, Peel & Stick Furniture & Architectural Symbols.
- I bought this product, as opposed to other similar ones, because of the other reviews/ratings. I thought it was going to be like the Colorforms toys we played with as kids. Instead, the pieces are black and white, very tiny, and hard to stick/unstick. I know it says everything is proportioned but some of the chairs are nearly as large as the fireplace. After trying for about an hour to arrange a single room using this product, I gave up.
- As an Interior Designer for 20 years, the problem I have with computerized design programs is that you can't take them with you. The Home Quick Planner is one of the few things that really is easier and more efficient without a computer. These planners allow me to easily come up with several different design options for my clients, and perhaps more importantly, gives my clients the flexibility to play around with different layouts and furniture placement on their own. In addition, their 1/4" scale makes them a perfect fit to be dropped right into standard architectural plans. I have found these to be an invaluable, time saving tool. They just work better, and my clients love them!
- The Home Quick Planner is an excellent way to lay out and discover alternative floor plans, decorating ideas and propose major home remodeling changes. I have found it very helpful.
- I got this from my husband for my birthday and I was very excited, but once I got to working with the kit I could not finish my project because there were not enough of the wall strips. So if you are doing a large plan this kit may not be what you need without purchasing additional kits, but if you are doing a small plan or single room remodels its fine.
- I purchased this for my interior design class. This has proven to be a great asset for furniture placement. The templetes are reuseable

1 comments about Design for Water: Rainwater Harvesting, Stormwater Catchment, and Alternate Water Reuse.
- I am recomming this book to my customers who are considering rainwater collection. The book contains detailed explanation of collecting rainwater as well as conveyance and storage. The only downside, from my perspective, is that the purification section is deficient. Rainwater today can contain mercury and pesticides in addition to particulate it collects as it falls. I felt this aspect of the discussion was misleading in its brevity. But if you are looking for a book that provides an array of examples for collection and storage of rainwater, this book is an excellent resource to use in planning your system.
