5 comments about Great Windows & Walls Collection.
- Love the number of window treatments in the book. I was looking for some ideas that weren't too crafty or off-the-wall but different. I also didn't want a lot of technical detail on how to make the coverings, but I needed enough to be able to explain it to a seamstress.
- Great Windows & Walls Collection has hundreds of pictures; this is a spectacular book that will help you create a gorgeous personal sanctuary with its ideas of furnishing, window treatment and wall finishes. This is an excellent book for inspiration, regardless of your own personal style.
- this book is a great help to my clients
the visual is so important in the window treatment field
the photo are crisp and easy to see
- I have many books on window treatments and decorating ideas. This book is my FAVORITE ONE! I love BHG Windows & Walls magazine, and this book had a few I'd seen there before and hundreds more. This is actually the second one of these I bought because one of my friends loved it so much she bought my first one from me. She wasn't the last one to buy this book for themselves after seeing mine! Worth every penny and more!
- I highly recommend this book above dozens of books and magazines I have looked at and/or purchased over the years. Beautiful ideas abound. Wall and window treatments range from the sublimely simple suitable for any DIY to professionals only. A visually stunning compilation of wall and window decor. A feast to assist your imagination and help you see the possibilities. Yes, I have seen some ideas before but this book pulls them together in one guide with styles ranging through traditional to contemporary and craftsman to cottage.

5 comments about Living with Dogs: Collections and Traditions, At Home and Afield.
- I've always had an affinity for dogs and the people who love them, which is probably why this book now occupies the premier spot on my coffee table. After reading the introduction by Larry Sheehan, in which he shares hilarious and endearing tales about his dog, Buster, I knew I'd found someone who truly understood what it means to live with and love dogs. Even bad ones. The book is a celebration of hardcore dog enthusiasm. It's fun to learn about other people's passion for various breeds. What's more, the pages are filled with pictures of beautiful dogs, beautiful homes, and beautiful places. I got tons of inspiration for decorating my home and incorporating my love of dogs into my life. This book would make a wonderful gift.
- I am an avid collector of dog memorabilia and motif items and this book was an inspiration! My husband just thought I was obsessive about dog objects! Your book gave me new ideas for old dog items that I never would have thought of. The photography is beautiful and the subjects are warm and true. I know that I am not alone in my endeavor to collect and display what I love!
- I have read several other books with the same theme, however this book surpasses them all. Our copy is well loved and our guests tend to migrate toward it at our home. The book contains the stories of several people and how dogs have touched their lives. It is a glimpse into personal collections of avid dog lovers and collectors.
- I loved this book. The beautiful photos were a delight and the stories heart-warming. Every dog lover would love to have this book on their cocktail table!
- I am the devoted owner of a gorgeous white sheepdog with blue blue eyes (with eyelashes no less..) and I just had to have this book. I adore Carolyne Roehm and the chapter on her homes and dogs were an added reason for me to own this one. I highly recommend this one for a gift.

5 comments about The Poor Man's James Bond (#C-065).
- This is my kind of book! This book is wonderful for beginners and advanced kinds of people interested in chemestry and explosives. It will teach you chemestry in an easy-to-understand method which is great for those just starting out. Once you have this book other things you may read that tell you how to create explosives will be easy to understand.
This book is most certainly a must-buy for those who want to have a bit of fun in their back-yards (or anywheres ;-}). I dont have much else to say about this book except, keep it out of the hands of anyone under 18 and; imagine if half the people in the USA had read this book...
- This is the greatest book I've ever read. Incredably accurate and helpful, it tells how to practically rule a town with house hold objects. Although some ingredients may be hard to find he gives you ways to obtain them. check out the article on ANTI !!
- Many do not understand that Kurt Saxon's book is not so much anarchy as it is "survivalist" (as he put it). Also take note of some of the interesting articles presented in it. He proves a point. Man has bred way too far for productivity or sanity. This book is for the more stable and intelligent members of Man who can read and understand the knowledge is for a need-to-use kind of basis. It is not for children or morons.
That said, it is a lot better than "Anarchist's Cookbook" this one makes more sense. But to get a full picture, go to www.kurtsaxon.com and read some of his articles on Fantasy and Weaponary, it puts a lot in perspective. Saxon is a interesting contradiction. He scoffs at full auto weapons yet provides a few plans for them in his second volume. Ironic? Or maybe he just feels he should caution you first. Not sure.
- I'm not sure I'd try any of the projects oulined in this volumous text, but I certainly enjoyed reading about 40 % of it. It gets very dry, long winded and flat-out BOOOOring when listing page after page of chemical compositions. But I guess if anyone wanted to actually attempt the processes outline, they'd need all that info and probably wouldn't find it as boring.
It wouldn't surprise me if Tim Mcviegh and Ted Kaczynski had copies (although I think Teddy's exploits started before the publication date) and Tyler Durden's (Fight Club) statement that gasoline and Orange Juice make napalm is an urban legend this book quickly lays to rest.
A good deal of the material is public domain, like the Marine Corp combat guide, and many of the chapters appear to be multi-generational photo-copies so I find the book a bit pricey. Still, if the subject matter is to your liking it will hold your interest for hours on end. It's big as a phone book. Weighs about 4 pounds. I'm surprised Saxon didn't suggest using the book itself as an improvised bludgen.
- As a USDI-National Park Ranger I completed a 13-week POST Basic (Police) Academy in the late 1970s. Kurt Saxon was an instructor (sans a few fingers) who showed up one day with a high-powered German pellet gun and proceeded to show us how to kill humans by firing into a very large roast beef. He then cut open the roast to show the depth of penetration (simulating a human skull and brain). He had our undivided attention!
Another demonstration was how to clear a room or bar in 30 seconds with common household materials and so forth. His missing fingers only added to his credibility. The result was as if we had been allowed to peer into Pandora's box for a few minutes and then allowed to close the lid without long-term consequences.
For those with maturity, responsibility and long-term ethics, this is a guide on how to be aware of those around you. Just as Mentos and soft drinks are a current curiosity, Saxon tells you what to do and what to be aware of. Saxon speaks from first-hand experience in civil rights demonstrations. Read and enjoy, but be aware, not everyone is well intentioned . . .

4 comments about The Everything Budgeting Book: Practical Advice for Spending Less, Saving More, and Having More Money for the Things You Really Want (Everything Series).

Featuring 75 worksheets that you can copy and use over and over again, this user-friendly guide will help keep you financially healthy for years to come. With this hands-on book, you'll be able to balance your checkbook without acrobatics, free yourself from pre-payday panic, and have money for the things you really want.
- We have several of the "Everything" books and, as usual, we were not disappointed in this one. There are plenty of forms to use to help you layout your budget. They think of things we normally would not have. They cover what do you want vs what do you need and explain the difference. They also cover how to figure out what to budget for each person in the household.
We've tried different ones in the past but this one puts it into understandable English. Doing a budget is hard enough without spending all our time figuring out what a book is trying to tell us.
- This book is 289 pages and could have easily been 50. By page 80 I was bored and not interested in continuing. If you have a college education, or even remember fifth grade arithmetic, the first 40 pages are insulting. From page 40: "To figure out how much your average electric bill is, add up your last twelve monthly payments to the electric company and divide by twelve." No kidding. Page 38 explains that to determine your annual income, you multiply your monthly income by twelve or your biweekly income by 26.
The cover proudly advertises that the book "features 70 worksheets!" This is because there is a seperate page for what you spent on monday, tuesday, wednesday, etc. There are worksheets for monthly expenses, where each month has its own worksheet. I know I did not have the patience to write "cable bill - $x" on twelve different pages.
I found "the pocket idiots guide to living on a budget" to be much more helpful. After reading this tiny book, I have a working budget and feel totally confident that I will achieve my financial goals. I got nothing from the "everything budgeting book."
- very easy to follow budget book..i sat and read it a few times and used the added worksheets to help me..and i do believe i am on my way to getting our family on a budget..a nice and simple one.

5 comments about Talking Dirty Laundry With The Queen Of Clean.
- I saw this book on Oprah. If she recommends it, it must be good, right? Wrong. The book doesn't deliver what it promises. Common stains are not always included. I assume that Oprah recommended it because (of course) she doesn't do her own laundry and would have no way of judging the quality of this kind of book for those of us who do not have hired help.
- This book offers helpful tidbits. One should always take precautions before doing a lot of this tips at home. Not everything is for everybody. If you have children with allergies or smaller children, you should take more precautions. The book is helpful, but some things in this book is basic common sense.
- I found so much useful information in this book! I really enjoy it and use it often. I appreciate the fact that most of her cleaning solutions are non-toxic as I have a 2 year old at home.
I found that baking soda WILL unclog a drain (combined with a few other things) :) In fact baking soda by itself will clean quite a bit of your home.
- Hi Kelly: You wrote that this book didn't have a solution for GRASS STAINS, so I thought of you when I saw Linda Cobb's other book called "A Queen for All Seasons: A Year of Tips, Tricks, and Picks for a Cleaner House and a More Organized Life!"
In this book it states the following: (Just ONE of the things in this book.) Spring: Garden the natural way...allergy-proof your home...banish GRASS STAINS...color your Easter eggs.... SO....I thought you might like to get this book to help with some of those grass stains we all know kids are very good at getting ground into clothes. You didn't have your email address so I could write you......so I hope you see this recommendation.
- This explains how to do laundry so easily! Get stains out, ect. This book has helped my laundry doing greatly within the past month!

3 comments about Porches & Sunrooms: Your Guide to Planning and Remodeling (Better Homes and Gardens(R)).
- I could not find any other books like this that showed me all the possibilities and helped me decide what kind of room was right for our house, where to put the room, and even how to decorate it.This isn't a book about building it yourself but about getting your own goals and ideas straight before you call in the builder or the architect or the seller of sunroom additions,
- The Guide would be useful to an interior decorator. I was looking for help in estimating cost and materials needed to build a porch.
- I bought this book, along with another on building additions, when I was rebuilding an old porch that was falling apart because of bad construction. I needed some ideas on what to make it look like and how to go about it. I liked the basic design of the original, but it's execution was poor. The many pictures of such a variety of porches showed me what I needed to do, and the end result of my little project is one of my favorite rooms in the house. The book shows porches in various climate zones, although all of them were larger than my project, it's nice to be able to apply ideas from bigger and fancier to smaller projects to add just a bit of elegance to what would otherwise be only average.

5 comments about The Book of Masonry Stoves: Rediscovering an Old Way of Warming.
- As mentioned, the book is not a modern day catalog, but a historical look at masonry stoves dating back to the first harvesting of fire by humans. Fascinating look at the historical developments, especially around the middle ages
to the nineteenth centtury. Also includes many examples from non-western cultures. Many informative diagrams and photos portraying the myriad styles. Appropriate for the uninitiated.
Not an overly technical review.
- I wouldn't have thought a book about stoves would be such interesting reading, but this really is a good book. I bought it in hopes that I'd be able to attempt to build a stove myself. That did not happen, in fact I'm not even sure what type of stove I'd like. However, the book has increased my faith in a wood stove keeping my home comfortable, and be environmentally sound. I liked the writing style, which is pretty rare for a book of this type. There were times when I couldn't put it down. Honestly, I was on this page again to sell my book, but now I find I'm not ready to let it go, so I'm writing a review instead.
While it is old and could probably be updated, the art of the wood stove is also old, so much of the most valuable information may be old as well. Certainly, history has a lot of lessons to teach us about masonry stoves. Also, the book talks about past mistakes of masonry stoves, so if you're thinking about building your own, this would be good reading.
- great refrence book, it goes back to the beginning of the use of fire indoor as heat, then goes into masonry heaters. lots of nice pictures also.
- This is an outstanding and comprehensive book on a timely subject which is gaining renewed interest. Even though it's a bit out of date on the calendar the information is still right on target.
- When I started flipping through this book, I became excited -- very excited. This is not a Black & Decker complete guide to masonry stoves. There are no step-by-step instructions on how to build a masonry stove. You cannot walk into the Home Depot and buy a masonry stove or a masonry stove kit. But this book is an absolute treasure trove of theory and diagrams (many historical, but we learn from the past, right?) which, with a little imagination and chatting with your local building inspector, can potentially yield results in the form of energy-efficient, high quality heating for your home -- and, depending on your execution, much more aesthetically pleasing than the forced-air beast currently occupying your basement.

2 comments about Audel Electrician's Pocket Manual.
- This book is typical of the Audels books in that it fairly concisely covers the important areas of the topic. It is a resource book that most people could use for several years before needing to go to another reference for technical aspects.
- The NEC is updated every 3 years, the 2008 is out and shipped in October 2007. The states usually take a year or so to review and adopt, but the 2002 should not be used. This is misleading saying it is "updated", since it is annotation the 2002 version! Sorry but I have to give it a 1 star to get peoples attention. If the author has a 2005/2008 edition, please buy that instead, or you might not be in code!

5 comments about History of Interior Design.
- History of Interior Design is great. I study interior design and, without John Pile's books, this wide-ranging subject would have been far more difficult. Studying the subject "history of interior design" would have been such a struggle for me without having this book at my side. I just couldn't find all I needed on the internet. Apart from the high quality paper and excellent images, John Pile has a writing style that gets his point across very clearly. That makes for rapid reading and faster absorption of information.
- If you're bored with historical overviews of a discipline, you're in for a surprise. Pile brings interior design to life with vibrant examples, wonderful background detail, and the kind of information that will help you understand this arena with much more depth.
- I really do enjoy the book except that on some important topics in the class I am taking with this book there is little information. Nonetheless on the topics it greatly expands upon the book shows impressive and accurate knowledge. The pictures also aid in examples and are for the msot part the best picture examples that any book could offer.
- It's a very interesting book, it offers a vew over design from ancient times to ower days. We can follow the developement of design over time. The book is recomended especialy for professional designers.
- WOW! beautifully organized and articulated. thoughtful and well-rounded discussion of the variation and evolution of interior design. it was purchased to use as a course resource (on 20th century American consumer culture), but am now tempted to buy my OWN copy.
