4 comments about Audel Pipefitter's and Welder's Pocket Manual.
- Although the information in this book is factual, I find that the contents do not match the name of the book. Most of the information should already be known to the tradesman. When looking at a pocket manuel, I am looking for quick referances, pre-figured math tables, and or drawings. A better title for this book would be, Pipefitter's and welder's pocket manuel for beginer's.
- I've been waiting for a revision of this Audel book for almost 10 years, and it's finally here! I always have a devil of a time finding any useful books about my trade-pipe fitting. The only thing I ever found was the old edition of this book, I guess that reviewer who wrote that review dated 2000 was talking about the old edition because the new one just came out-in late 2003. And what an improvement. I'm giving one to each guy on my crew!
- I always have this book near me at work. It's an excellent reference, particularly if you're in your first few years in the trade.
The book has seventeen chapters, plus an appendix. Here's the table of contents from my copy of the book: 1. Math and Metrics. 2. Calculating Offsets. 3. Pipe Welding with Oxyacetylene and Arc. 4. Automatic Fire Protection Systems. 5. Steam Heating Systems. 6. Hot-Water Heating Systems. 7. Air Conditioning and Refrigeration. 8. Process Piping Using Plastics. 9. Grooved-End and Plain-End Piping Systems. 10. Learning to Use an Instrument Level. 11. Pneumatic Control Systems. 12. Gas Piping. 13. Tungsten Inert Gas Welding. 14. Trouble-Shooting Tips for Arc Welding. 15. Pipe Welders' Definitions. 16. Definitions of Heating and Air Conditioning Terms. 17. Glossary of Terms Relating to Plastic Piping.
- Great book that I take every were I Go. One that no welder should be with out.

1 comments about English Country Interiors: Inside Cotswold Homes.
- Writer Sarah North with photographer Mark Nicholson take us through a stroll of Cotswold homes in a most unique way. The Cotswolds region is in central England, covering an area bounded by Oxford, Stratford, Cheltenham and Bath, an area known for quaint villages and scenic countryside. The term 'Cotswold' for most homeowners conjures visions of serene beauty of habitat and this excursion brings us closer to those elements that denote the Cotswold flavor.
But what North and Nicholson have elected as a tour is to knock on doors of various citizens who are not necessarily those with wealth, moneywise, but those who make life more beautiful. We visit the homes of florists, designers, craftsmen - the regular people of the streets and lanes of this beautiful region, and the book feels like a neighborly stroll. Interiors demonstrate the use of the elements of Cotswold design that are often copied in United States homes, but here retain the basic simplicity of functional design.
The paths and gardens are also scanned in this beautifully designed book. For those interested in traveling through England or for those with special interest in the Cotswold style, this book is well worth the investment. Grady Harp, May 06

5 comments about Marvelous Murals You Can Paint.
- I purchased this book in the hope that it would provide instruction to create the murals illustrated on the first few pages. Unfortunately, although there are very beautiful murals pictured, instructions are included for only a few. Perhaps my tastes differ from the authors but it seems that most garish and ugly murals were the ones that included "how to" instructions. It leads one to wonder if perhaps they do not want any competition in producing the more tasteful murals pictured! I also purchased the companion video and was disappointed for the same reasons- the instructions were only for projects I would not want to do.
- This book has alot of good information that both novice and pro alike will love. There are alot of techniques covered in this book and the authors cover them extensively. If you're thinking of making a carreer as a muralist, or just want to spruce of your own home, this is the book to start with.
- Although this book was visually nice to look at I found it lacked in teaching me how to paint murals. I have stumbled across a great site that has free tutorials on it. The site is [...] I hope you find this helpful.
- I think Gary Lord does wonderful work and these murals are amazing. However, unless you are an artist or have invested in some equipment, this isn't for you. It has great ideas that one might hire done.
- this is an older book and the work simplistic I prefer his latest 3 books:The House That Faux Built,Its Faux Easy With Gary Lord and his latest mural book just coming out

2 comments about The Cutting Edge of Wallpaper (Interior Design).
- This book really surprised me because it went into the history of wallpaper in some depth in the introduction. I really enjoyed this because, although thorough, it wasn't too boring or dominant of the book as a whole. I felt that the designs shown in the book and wallpaper manufacturers were up to date (still appear in the latest magazines) and covered more mainstream as well as avant guarde styles. It was exactly what I expected which was fabulous!
- One of my favorite books on wallpaper!! So much history interesting! So many pictures!!! And yes, I also think it feels very up-to-date!!!!!! BUY IT!!!

5 comments about Feasting Free on Wild Edibles.
- This is the first book I've found that ever really tells you what wild plants are edible.
It's not a "read through" book, but it is eminently valueable for finding out if specific nuts/berries/roots are edible. There are line drawings and Latin names to help with identification. The writing style is informative but not persnicketty. Each plant has 'receipes' and occasionally anecdotes. Infact there are so many 'receipes' that it occasionally comes over as a frusterated gormet cookbook! But don't worry; the first and best purpose is finding out which plants are edible. How to prepare them is merely a bonus. In short, this is what I've been looking for for years: a consise, trustworthy guide to identifying wild edibles. THE book to own on the subject. amr
- I really enjoyed this book! It is broken down according to type of wild edible (ex. fruit, pot herb, salad, beverages, nuts, etc. The only thing I would change would be the layout under each plant. It's hard to discern where the recipes are because they are incorporated right into the paragraph. It would be nice if the recipes were titled and had lists of ingredients and then directions.
- Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R3JNP9ROB2RCUV
- This is a really mediocre book with even more mediocre line drawings and the layout is poor. The "recipes" are integrated in narrative style right into the same area of the book that contains botanical information about the plant. The book also contains useless information about what Native Americans did with the plant 150 years ago. Personally, I find it very hard to identify plants from simple, black and white drawings, particularly when said drawings are small and not very good, and most particularly when it is a plant I intend on eating! I am really sorry I purchased this book, but I purchased it together with another book called "The Forager's Harvest" by Samuel Thayer which is, by contrast, EXCELLENT.
- This book lists a short description of most wild edibles. It has only passable drawn illustrations.

2 comments about Mosaic Crafts: Twenty Designs for the Modern Home.
- I may be a bit predjudiced as a moaic artist myself, specializing in millifiori, but I loved Martin's extensive use of this wonderful material throughout the pages of his book. Used as accents and as full areas of pattern, he has shown the reader an exciting new direction that modern mosaics is moving using a very old traditional Italian glass but in adventurous new ways.
Now that being said, Martin offers a variety of interesting and inspiring projects for all levels, rating his projects on a difficulty scale of 1-5 and on a working scale of a few hours to several days required to complete each project. He also offers several different methods of working, including techniques such as direct, indirect, transfers, outdoor casted concrete and working over wood, metal and glass as a substrate.
Not all of it is for everyone, but I am sure there is more than one project in Martin's book that will inspire you to want to run to your craft table and start pulling down the tiles. For me, it was his wonderful Storm Lights and his 'Day of the Dead' Mosaics in smalti and millifiori.
Bravo Martin, you are one of todays' leaders in contemporary mosaics. Laurel Skye
- I have been a mosaic artist for seven years and I would say this is a good book no matter what your level of experience. I also enjoy Martin's work and like to see what he is up to. Great resource and inspirational too.

2 comments about Specifications for Commercial Interiors.
- This is a fabulous book and a must for any professional interior designer to have on their book shelf. The information it contains provides the designer with the basic information needed to evaluate the different types of building and furniture finishes. It covers all of the available types of finishes including floors, walls, and ceilings. The only concern that I have regarding this book is that it is from 1989 and a lot of changes have happened to the industry since that time. Hopefully, the author is in the process of revising it.
- How wonderful to find a textbook that is not only factually detailed but so clearly written that ---believe it or not---I could hardly put it down. I do wish there were new supplements---it's a treasure. I teach at Pratt Institute's Interior Design Dept., and have assigned it as optional reading and am considering it as assigned reading. The line drawings and illustrations are useful and the sample documents and forms exhaustive.
