  1. I purchased this book to give me ideas on which type of pattern/material I should use to reupholster a Victorian settee frame I recently bought. After looking through the breathtaking photos on these glossy pages, I know exactly which material to go with. And of course, from viewing this book I have a desire to purchase other victorian pieces to accompany the settee. It's a step back in time that must be seen.

This is a wonderful book. Also, this book was like brand new although it is used. Just wish there were more pages.

1 comments about CPM in Construction Management (Pro Engineering).
  1. The original edition of this revised book dates from the early 1980's, so predates the use of personal computers for scheduling. The careful, methodical thinking that was essential when paper and pencil or mainframe computers were the only choices, is evident in the organization and subject matter of this book. Although currently popular PC scheduling software is addressed in this edition, the discipline of the underlying knowledge and methods are always evident. A welcome contrast to scheduling texts that want to "get to the good stuff", such as schedule acceleration, before building a firm foundation.

The use of case studies from both construction and manufactoring were particluarly relavant. This is the most comprehensive and clear book on this subject I have found.

  1. As a fan of Trinny and Susannah, I have always appreciated their guidance on how to dress for your specific body type. I found this book to be covering the same information, except not as well presented as in previous books.

Once you discover your body type, you can really only use 15 or so pages out of entire 288 page book. You are offered only 3 looks as ideal for your shape, Casual, Smart, and Party. I would have appreciated more, especially considering some of the outfits were not seasonally appropriate. And as I flipped through the information on other body types, it was noticable that things such as swimsuits and accessories where discussed with some body types and not others. This should have been addressed with every body type.

Also, because this book is shipped from the UK, the shopping section becomes useless since they recommend shops within the United Kingdom only, unless you anticipate traveling overseas soon. The shopping guide in "T & S The Survival Guide" is far superior. Perhaps an updated US version will be offered later. Wait and buy it then.

  2. This is an entertaining read as well as an easy to use guide to what to wear. I found a lot of useful information in this guide.

  3. I wish they would have included more ways to know what shape a person is. It's surprisingly difficult to figure out yours or anybody elses shape! Maybe have a friend photo you from the back and side view in a swimsuit, outline yourself, and shade it in. It is definitly worth buying, though. Smiley face icon.

  1. I was looking for house plans that had the major rooms on the front of the house overlooking a view. The title led me to believe I would find that type of home in this book. I did not. Also, most of the plans were very complicated with multiple roof angles and expensive building items.

  2. I found this book to offer just what I was looking for! I wanted to find home plans with water oriented views and interesting and fanciful exteriors for my vacation beach home.

  1. I had this book for my son and bought one for my second son this year. It's such a perfect size and contains the right amount of recording pages from year one through school grades. You can't go wrong with Susan Branch ~ her artwork is so charming.

  2. I have been searching for months for the right baby book and my mother and I found this one. It has everything that you could dream of from all of the firsts to the little things that we sumtimes forget. It has a great binding and is great for a boy or girl. My cusion is getting ready to have her first child also and I plan on this being the book I get for her. The only draw back is that it doesn't have a lot of room to write about the 2nd- 5th birthday but I plan on creating a scrap book to go with it so if you want to be able to add more about those birthdays try to be creative.

  3. I was given this book by my sister for the birth of my first baby and have received them for my two other children and wouldn't consider writing in anything else! There is so much room for you to write your comments and thoughts and great prompts from the author to jot down things I wouldn't have thought of. The design, drawing and writing is just beautiful. These books are treasures for all time and I can't recommend them highly enough.

  4. The book was cute and gave you space to write in, but not a whole lot of photo space.

  5. Just another fabulous keepsake by Susan Branch.
I've been collecting and gift giving her cookbooks, calenders, and keepsake books since the early 80's. No one comes close with the quality, artwork, and content.

5 comments about Steel-Frame House Construction.
  1. While it was not the book I expected, it does cover the topic of framing your house in steel very well. It even answers the question of "How do I hang a picture?" :-) This book is for the DIY with a small house or for professionals who want to switch to working with steel. From start to finish, it is framing in steel.

  2. Simple but with all the stuff one needs to start building steel framed houses. Pity there isn't a version with metric measurements.

  3. Book was very informative and easy to understand. In plain english, I recommand this book to any one who is interseted in Steel Frame Constrction.

  4. I found the book of very little value. Most of steel structures these days gets calculated and drawn up by computer. The assembly of the computer generated panels are dead easy and far cheaper than doing it by hand. More time should have been spent discussing the various options regarding cladding, insulation, utilities etc.

  5. Im a jouneryman commerical carpenter of 20 yrs.(metal stud framer),but never done residential framing, so i want to build a home using metal studs, but didnt understand roof systems. This is fact! steel studs Are cheaper ,dont warp ,rot ,deteriorate, fire proof, termite free,150 mph wind resistiance, recyable, and it helps in our quest to go green one house at a time, and this book is fabulous.Me and my wife intend to build our first house really soon with these principles illustrated in this wonderful book . also look up steel alliance .com for a metal stud instructional school near you. GO GREEN

1 comments about Outdoor Kitchens: Designs for Outdoor Kitchens, Bars, and Dinning Areas (Quarry Book).
  1. This must be the first full book-length study of the increasingly popular subject of outdoor kitchens and cooking. The author's style is precise and easy, allowing the reader to understand the history of cooking outdoors, which, after all, is how cooking got started. The book is beautifully produced, with a profusion of color illustrations and drawings which illustrate the text's in-depth approach to all aspects of the subject. From simple outdoor grilling to the design and construction of a custom, high-end outdoor kitchen and dining area, the reader can develop a better feel for the glorious benefits of cooking by fire. A useful index of resources for products is included at the end.

Not to be ignored are the many sidebars in the book, many of which provide essential information, such as those relating to choosing grills, the estimation of food servings for groups, cleaning a grill and food safety when outdoors. Major chefs and designers who specialize in outdoor cooking and grilling are interviewed, including 'Barbeque Bible' maestro Steven Raichlen, Dwayne Ridgaway, Food Network star Paula Deen, Richard Sandoval (author of Modern Mexican Flavors) and Dinosaur Bar-B-Que owner John Stage.

We can't all afford to spend a fortune on a full-blown outdoor kitchen, but Amanda Lecky's book is a great resource for outdoor large and small, and is worth more than its weight in (gold or otherwise) briquettes. Outdoor cooking has never been so fully analyzed and featured and this book makes you want to run out on the patio, fight the fall chill and grill a great meal.

5 comments about The Pen Turner's Workbook: Making Pens from Simple to Stunning.
  1. While not an absolute beginers book this book will take you to the next step. Many gems you can glean from reading carefully....

  2. I recently bought this book. I has good examples that cover from the easiest pens to more complex ones (segmented for example). It's really good in showing step by step pictures on how to turn and finish pens. I covers all of the materials available in the market and it provides instructions for one finishing technique that seems to be reliable. It does not cover CA finishing, which is a common practice as well. It has a nice chapter about FAQ's and troubleshooting. It also has a few pages on how to market your products. It is not complete but it has more information than other books. If you are going to buy just one book, this is the one of choice!

  3. I Have just bought a Rikon mini lathe and am very much a beginner. This book is perfect to help the beginner set up shop, select the correct tools, explains how to use them, and the basic steps to making pens. Several specific projects are also given at the end, some basic, and a few that are very advanced. Very good illustrations, and easy to read. This book was extremely helpful to me.

  4. I'm new to pen turning and this book was all I needed to get started. It also had some great ideas for more advanced pens. Well illustrated and clearly written.

  5. This is a great book, it will answer many of your pen turning questions. It will also inspire you to go on to bigger and better projects.

  1. Having just entered into home-owning (versus apartment-dwelling) I've embarked on a crash course in home improvement. So far, this book has been a good resource, especially in terms of =illustrating= what I'm supposed to do. I need the visual cues to understand how part A is supposed to fit into part B and so on. This is one book I think I will be referring to often.

  2. My recommendation would be to not buy this book. Unless you mostly want to read about how to hire a contractor. There are a few books out there much better for the weekend do it yourselfer then this.
