1 comments about Ultimate Guide to Crown Molding: Plan, Design, Install (Ultimate Guide).
- This is one of the best crown molding books that I have read. Where it really shines is showing numerous combinations of building up crown molding. Other books my do a better job in explaining all the ins-and-outs of hanging it (i.e. Crown Molding and Trim), but showing different configurations (and showing how they are done) sets this book apart. It sort of walks you through the process. Highly recommended!

5 comments about Christi Carter's Art of Accessorizing.
- This book is sooooooooo good. It is like being enrolled in a decorating class --- except you learn and study at your own pace. This is helpful to me since I do not have time to take a class. I have never seen another decorating book that even compares to this. She breaks everything down into steps and categories. Everything is illustrated using actual rooms and real situations. The information is very usable and I will be applying the principals learned in this book from now on. I think it will save me $$$$ by keeping me from purchasing the wrong accessories that do not work in my home. The book is also attractive and fun to look at so you could approach it by just looking at it and getting ideas the way most decorating books help us This book will help you learn what works and what does not and why. Again it is the best decorating book ever because you can casual use it to flip through and get ideas. You can also use if to really study and learn how to decorate. Either way you will not waste your money on this one.
-
This is one of my favorite decorating books in my library.
I wish Christi would write another book on this subject (or any decorating subject!) Her photos are simply exquisite. Also, this book is easy to follow.
This book shows how to accessorize in a "semi-formal" way. Christi takes the reader through every room in (any) house and shows ,for instance, how to hang pictures, or place objects in an appealing manner, or use colors, etc....
- It's simply a wonderful book in every way - wonderful to look at, wonderful to read and wonderful to learn from! It contains lots of simple brilliant ideas to be aesily applied at our home w/ our own collection that bring smart and beautiful result!
Highly recommended both for the homeowners and design proffesionals - one of the best book in its kind - we got all the lessons and samples we need in accesorizing and decorating our rooms easily and stylishly!
- This book is great. It gives a lot of practical hints on how to accesorize your home. I can't wait to try out some of the suggestions.
- This is a really lovely book. The examples are very nice and I think most of them come from the authors own home. The three step guide to accesorizing is wonderful. I just wish she had taken a little more time writing. The pictures are vibrant and modern. It's a nice book, but could have used more written content.

5 comments about 101 Feng Shui Tips for Your Home.
- I enjoyed this book so much I bought another Feng Shui book by the same author. I've read a few books on this subject and so far this is my favorite. Simple and to the point.
- Easy to find information and easy to understand. Feng Shui finally makes sense. Great book!!
- I read the 10-Minute Clutter Control (Easy Feng Shui Tips for Getting Organized) before trying this book. That one was easier to grasp, but this one expanded my understanding of placing the grid on my living space. I didn't quite grasp how to use the trigrams in this book though.
The book gives about five pages talking about each room, then gives a page of brief tips to get you started.
Some of the tips seem so obvious, that you wonder what all the hype is about. It does make you take a new look at your surroundings and creates a desire to improve on it.
It was useful to me and is a book that I'll sample now and then to give me a fresh perspective on a room and its layout.
- Nice Cover,This little book is very easy to read and understand, actually it doesn't give 101 tips because some of them are repeated chapter after chapter, it's ok for beginners, Delivery from Amazon was fast and well packed.
- I am brand new to the concept of Feng Shui and this book was my first purchase. It was a great introduction. Easy to understand. I read it in one evening, because each page leaves you wanting to know more. Can't understand who would knock it.

5 comments about Cold-Smoking & Salt-Curing Meat, Fish, & Game.
- We got this book in the library and decided that it needed to be part of our collection at home. This is a great book for do-it-yourselfers. Those of us that want to take the middle man out, raise and cure your own meat this is the book for you. It also has some great recepies in the back.
- A very disappointing book. The descriptions are to vague and are of little use to anyone other then someone with absolutely no knowledge what so ever of this subject. I got more information surfing the net for 45 minutes then this whole book has cover to cover. What good is a book that feels the need to include a recipe for a ham and cheese sandwich? If you are looking for information on smoking and curing meats I highly suggest you look into one of the other books on this subject. This book is not the money.
- This slim volume, while interesting, did not provide the depth I had been hoping for. However, what really ticked me off is that the index is horrible. I was particularly interested in a recipe for cold-smoked salmon. There is one in the text, but it doesn't show up in the index. Of course the author also suggests cooking the smoked salmon before eating -- yeah, that would be great on a bagel!
- I bought this book for our son inlaw, He seems happy with it after having a good look but has not tried anything out of it at present
- I am a food professional and consulting chef with many years experience curing and smoking. I found much of the information to be incorrect and some of it unsafe from a food handling, curing, and smoking perspective. There are much better sources of information available, both in books and on the Internet.

5 comments about How to Be Organized in Spite of Yourself: Time and Space Management That Works With Your Personal Style.
- I have read a few organization books. this book helps you find your 'organization style'. I thought it was great. Really easy to get through, tells you how to make lists. The book is not an instruction manual, it is really only suggestions on what to do. If you give them a chance and actually do them, things will be easier.
- Book is geared towards a professional view and not helpful for college students; which is why I purchased it.
- This book is more conceptual than 'practical application', but I really liked it. I found out *why* I organize (to put it loosely) things the way I do and found some ways to make it work for me. Most books by professional organizers work great for people whose idea of disorganization is the occasional jacket not hung up. However, I wouldn't use this book by itself. I would recommend using this book for insight into what your style (or combination of styles) is and then apply that to a more "practical application" book like "Organizing Plain and Simple." That way, you can easily identify which hints and tips will work for you without wasting a lot of time and money through trial and error.
- Not bad and quite helpful . Not the best self help on this topic , but not the worse either . the concept of people organising according to type is interesting.
- Very disappointing, felt like I was reading a magazine article. Not very valuable information.

5 comments about The Ultimate Curtain Book: A Comprehensive Guide to Creating Your Own Window Treatments.
- I bought four books in my quest to learn to properly sew curtains and drapes. I have been sewing since girlhood, but simple curtains and throw pillows are the farthest I've gotten into home decorating sewing. (I'm a grandma now).
This book only got 2 stars because of the lack of photos, not of finished window treatments, but of projects in the making. I find the illustrations not too good and in most cases too difficult to follow. Guess what? That leaves a person having to figure it out on her own - guess I could have done that without the book!
In fairness to the author, this book did have something the others did not. This book has fairly extensive sections on fabrics, types, colors, usages, care, colors. Also, the back has yardage calculator charts which no other book has. Unfortunately, I would not buy this book just for that.
I think if this book were to be published with photos instead of difficult to follow illustrations, it would be a must-have for my sewing library. As it is, I cannot recommend it.
- Nothing "ultimate" about this book. Gives a few general suggestions and directions, but does not offer anything different or unusual. Pictures and ideas are limited and not worth the cost of the book. You're better off with an Architectural Digest magazine if you're looking for ideas.
- I've ordered 6 books, and this was the BEST of the lot! (published by Reader's Digest) Yes, it's a 1994 copyright, but the looks & styles haven't changed that much in 13-years. There are over 200 photos that lend to a myriad of ideas for each room of your home. Each chapter (there are 5 in this 192-page hardcover book) outlines what one needs to consider when deciding on a style/look for windows. I found the book VERY THOROUGH: advice on considerations for window shapes/sizes, room-by-room inspirational ideas, actual step-by-step instructions for creating each style (with sketches) for all levels of sewing ability, how to measure one's windows, photos & descriptions of all types of fabric, trims, & shades and the why/when/purpose of using them; sewing techniques & fabric care, etc.; I could go on and on! There are so many wonderful window treatments, that I wish I had more windows now! I'm certainly not disappointed with this book -- in fact I'm absolutely THRILLED. Had I received this book first, I wouldn't have ordered the other 5!
- I wanted to make curtains in our home
and this book gave me step by step directions
that I could understand. It also give
me a variety of window treatments that
I could use
- This book was a bit of a surprise but I love it. It progresses from inspiration, through appropriate fabrics to how to info. The instructions are clear and concise, it includes not only drapes with the different types of headings, but also pelmets, cornices and blinds. Everything you need to know to make your own window coverings with a professional finish is included here. It also makes an attractive coffee table book !

5 comments about Raising a Happy, Unspoiled Child.
- I'm writing this because my daughter has finally turned 3. She is as delightful as what's described in the book. Cheerful, affectionate, curious but able to respect boundaries. I'm a first time mother, and I started reading this book when my daughter was a baby. I found all the instructions and explanation very helpful and easily to apply. It's assuring that Dr. White's advice is based on research and observation of numerous real-life cases, rather than his imagination and personal opinion. This book emphasizes how one stage of a baby/toddler's development can affect the next. It's more a whole-program approach rather than a guide with quick-fix solutions. Those who seek the latter could be disappointed.
- This is an outstanding book that should be read by both expectant parents. It discusses not to raise a child that is how an A student, great athlete, or future world leader, but rather how to raise a student who does well in school, life, and society.
Mr. White interviewed parents from different cultures and child rearing methods and gives the reader straight advise on methods to improve your child's chances for success in their life ahead. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is ready to have their first and also as a re-read to those working on their second, third, etc. A definite must!
- I found the advice in this book appealing (it's much the way I like to do things anyway). I was excited by the research. But I was frustrated because the description of the child's social development does not match my kids at all. My daughter was a delight from 14-24 months - the time frame when she was "supposed" to be testing me. She took direction, minimum tantrums, played well on her own, etc. Around 24 months the testing hit, and we are still in the thick of it (though outsiders tend to call her a "delight" - as mom, I see the testing going on). According to this book, a testing 2 year old is the mark of an overindulged child. But this simply isn't the case with ours. The book "Loosing Our Minds" has alot of interesting and useful information for parents of gifted children. Often gifted children do not develop according to neat little timelines that scientist and baby trainers prefer.
- I bought and used THE FIRST THREE YEARS OF LIFE By Burton L. White during the late 70's! Now I'm
using the new edition of that book, along with RAISING A HAPPY, UNSPOILED CHILD in caring for my grandchildren and the toddler pre-school class I teach. I have never found a better book on caring for young children. It makes it possible to detect new stages and explaines how to deal with the changes in the child's behaviour. So-o-o helpful! I include these books in my gifts to young mothers.
- I bought this book to help me deal with my two year old who was acting up, but the premise of this book is that if you are having problems with you're two year old, you probably screwed them up in the first year and it's too late to really do anything about it. Basically, you're screwed and it's because you spoiled them. Needless to say, this didn't help me. I completely agree with other reviews which said that the author divides children into angels and brats with no in betweens. Not helpful. I wish I would have taken more heed to the bad reviews, because apart from a few decent recomendations, this book was a complete waste of time.
