4 comments about Incra GSQR5 Guaranteed Square 5-Inch Precision Square.
  1. I once thought that when you bought a square and took it home, it was square. I just got this square today, and I am surprised with its quality and accuracy. I used it to check carpenter's squares, tri-squares, carpenter's speed squares and a precision Starrett branded machinest's square. Each was off up to .010" except the Starrett, which came in a close second this one. Not bad for the Starrett, since it is over 30 years old and has been dropped many times on a concrete floor. The INCRA is better than the Starrett, since the Starrett is rusted and pitted from years of sitting around in the garage shop.

I know that this is one of the best squares I've ever own and will own. My next purchase will the one with the 45 degree angle.

  2. I have owned this square for almost a year now, and I find myself using it more and more with each passing project. It, along with most other Taylor Design Group products, is well thought out and has superb machining. I took this tool to work and put it on a surface plate, and it is indeed accurate inside and outside to within .002 along the length of the blade. The part I truly appreciate is that it is as accurate using the inside 90 degree as it is using the outside 90 degree ( or 270 degree, however you look at it :). I routinely use this square to set up all my stationary equipment. To me a square is all about trust. I use this square to set up a tool, then put it away and let the tool do it's job. I own a Delta Beisemeyer for exactly the same reason.

The only draw back to this tool is the price. In the end, its just a piece of aluminum, anodized and all shiny, and it probably cost 8 bucks to make. I feel a lower price would be more appropriate, but in this case you certainly get what you pay for.

  3. You do indeed get what you paid for. It seems to be dead-on as my wood joints come out tight. The lip works great for marking boards, and its perfect for tuning tools. Incra offers a lifetime accuracy guarantee on their website, and even claims ordinary drops can't affect the angle. And I drop alot of tools.

  4. I have no way to test this tool except to use it to calibrate my tools and if the woodworking job comes out perfect then I know this tool was dead on for what I use it for. I have 4 Incra guaranteed squares(5" square, 5" 45 degree, 7" square, and 7" 45 degree) and absolutely use them religiously to calibrate all my tools (table saw, jointer, planer, miter saw, band saw, drill press, circular saw, router table, etc.). While they are expensive I learned in an engineering class that you have to pay more for better tolerances and the expense here is well worth it over a cheap square. Yet there are more expensive squares out there and the Incras are "guaranteed" so if they are not perfect they will make it perfect. If you purchase these I don't see how you will be disappointed as they are one of the best asset you can buy for quality work.

  1. Great price and it does work; there's a noticeable click when the torque limit is hit. But the lowest torque marking is 20 lbs, not 10 lbs. And it's very hard to adjust the torque to the higher range - I can't get it past 100 lbs by hand.

  1. This is a good value purchase. Sturdy and well designed.
Check the screws when it arrives as they were not all tight on mine.

  2. For a knife this small and light, it peforms very well. Gerber products are for the most part great, this little knife is no exception. I have included it in my outdoor survival kit since it weighs next to nothing, locks, and can perform delicate tasks not suited to survival knife or multitool blade.

Great product for any outdoorsman traveling light and fast :)

  3. This knife was smaller than expected (I should have read the demensions) and doesn't have one-handed opening. Gerber makes great knives.

  1. Don't be afraid of the epoxy coating being hard on your hand, mine wore off in about a week. The handle hasn't snapped yet so i am happy with that, but i know witht these things being used daily in framing they will eventually break. i was actually thinking about going with the fiberglass replacement handle next time to see how durable that is. It is a good handle and hammer overall, and gives you that extra power you need, a wide head and is still lightweight. Price and service for my transaction were excellent.

5 comments about Arrow Fastener ETFX 50 Heavy Duty Professional Electric Staple and Nail Gun.
  1. I bought this stapler based on the brand. I have had good experiences with Arrow in the past and my current manual stapler is very solid. I have a bunch of stapling to do, installing insulation in my attic. The stapler worked quite well for the first 200 or so staples, but then quit working. It would actuate, but the hammer wouldn't move. Turns out, the part that connects the electric plunger to the hammer broke. Upon inspection, it doesn't look like a particularly good design (I'm a mechanical engineer). Other users don't seem to have the problem, and I was very impressed with the stapler prior to its demise. Perhaps this was an anomaly.

When I called Arrow, I thought they would send out a replacement part and I'd be on my way again fairly quickly. Instead, they told me to contact the seller. I did, and Amazon very quickly sent me an RMA and mailing label. I'm returning the tool and am not going to replace it.

  2. company motto is this stape gun is jam proof..well i used for the first time...Guess what it jammed ..I mean JAMMED..i WAS NOT GOING TO TALE IT A PART...THEY GIVE YOU A DETAILED INSTUTION'S..ON HOW TO TAKE IT APART..NOT FOR ME...I RETURNED THE JAM ONE FOR A NEW ONE..P.S, I FOUND OUT YOU CAN ONLY PUT A SINGLE STAPLE ROW THAT IS CONNECTED..NEVER USE LIKE THREE SMALLER ROW OF STAPLE'S TOGETHIER...GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR
    JAM PROFF STAPLE GUN..

  3. I tested the stapler with 5 staples when I first received it. A few days later I used it and after only 2 staples it jammed! I could not un-jam the stapler and had to finish the project using my old faithfull manual stapler. And to answer the customer service question here, YES I did use Arrow T50 staples!

  4. I would consider this far from a "Heavy Duty Professional" staple gun but it works well enough for the price. The main problem so far as been a tendency for it to jam frequently. My wife has used it for some very light duty upholstery work and really enjoyed it, until she called me to unjam it. I would still recommend the product, just don't set your expectations too high for it.

  5. When chosing this tool I did so contrary to other reviews. I have used Arrow staplers for over 30 years and they have always been very good. The ETFX 50 was the highest priced. I expected more. To the nuts and bolts. The tool is cheaply made and tinny. It jambs regularly. About two jambs per 1 stick of staples. You will need to keep a pair of vice grip pliers available to pull the jambed staples out of the machine. The tool does not drive the staples flush. The Stanley TRE 550 is just as good at a lot less money.

3 comments about Fiskars 8-Inch Hatchet #7855.
  1. Fiskars wood-splitting implements can't be beat. We have the axe and hatchet and they are the best we have ever owned --- and, with 5 fireplaces, chopping wood efficiently is important.

  2. I own a few Fiskars axes. This hatchet is excellent! Well balanced and keeps it's edge.Very durable handle.I suspect it would last a million years in a landfill..Nice nylon sheath included. This is the perfect small hatchet for preparing kindling.Hot knife through butter..Easy to control.

  3. Nice little hatchet but it comes in a large, molded plastic snap-in case with a big carry handle on top. It would look good on the garage wall but it's too bulky to carry in a backpack. Sending it back and will look at an Estwing hatchet from Home Depot instead.

  1. I know this thing wasn't much money, but it's pretty much useless. It basically makes the level more bulky. Not much engineering thought went into the design.

  2. I purchased this item and the smart module (digital inclinometer) that it goes with. I received the smart module here where I am working in Iraq, but they would not ship the magnetic bracket to me, which inhibits the use of the tool in a way.

2 comments about Lufkin 100L 3/8-Inch x 100 Hi-Viz Lightweight Steel Tape.
  1. It's a good 100' tape and the price is right. I can't see spending a lot for these because I am hard on them and will usually pull off the end grip because I pull it too hard to get the sag out. It's not very good for stretching air born over a log distance but if you can lay it on a flat surface like a floor or studded wall it works fine. It's also flexible enough to measure curves like a planting area to determine the length of edging needed. I'm happy with it.

  2. I was doubtful the tape measures were really Lufkin at the price paid. It was such a good deal I bought 3. They were real Lufkin tapes with Lufkin great quality. I'm surprised and happy with the purchase.
