  1. I bought this as a gift for my Dad who has everything. He really wanted it and couldnt find it locally. Well he got it and wasnt that impressed. I dont know much about tools so.....

  2. I do NOT recommend this product at any price as it has no gripping power at all and is a waste of money. The concept is great, but that is all..

  3. Very nice. Steady in hand.
Only problem: Auto-adjust button does not really work if you hold the wrench vertically.

  4. Got one for Christmas, used it for one project, installing gas lines in the basement. Wrench fell off the ladder and that was it, no more auto wrench.

The good part, returned this to a B&D store, they sent me 3 wrenches as a replacment.

I'll be more careful with the replacements, but, this is not a regular tool, have to be careful with it.

I would not have bought this myself, nothing beats a good Craftsman open end wrench. I'll find a use for it.

  5. I was surprised at some of the negative comments about this wrench. First of all, it seems to me to be as effective as the equivalent manually adjustable "crescent" wrench -- with the emphasis on adjustable. There are some rare times when an adjustable wrench won't do and an exactly size open end wrench from a set of wrenches may be necessary. In those cases, this wrench won't do the trick any more than a manually adjustable crescent wrench will.

But lets talk of the 97.98% of cases where an adjustable open-end wrench is just what is wanted and needed. Here's one that adds something useful -- it adjusts wider and narrower at the touch of a button. Well, a spring-loaded momentary-on rocker switch, actually. Convenient for your thumb -- doesn't matter whether you're right-handed or left-handed -- there's this rocker switch. Press one end of the switch and the wrench width opens up. Press the other end and it closes up. It doesn't take much practice to get the hang of it, and in an instant you can resize the wrench to fit your application.

My first use the other day involved replacing the fill-valve inside my toilet tank. Where I needed a wrench was to loosen the supply tube's hex nut -- you know the one, it holds the bottom end of the water supply tube to the shut-off valve that comes out of the wall below the tank. I also needed it to tighten the same nut when I installed the new tube. It did the job admirably. Yes, my old manually adjustable crescent wrench would have worked, but that takes a bit more effort to get the wrench jaws to the right diameter. With this battery-operated wrench, the adjustment was performed in an instant with the push of the rocker switch with my thumb, and without trial and error.

I'll be using this wrench a lot in the future, no doubt about it.

Yes, the grip is a bit bulkier because of the rubber coated battery compartment that forms the grip on the handle, and the handle is a bit wider than a manually adjustable wrench. But it was actually more comfortable for me, perhaps because I have fairly large hands. (I suspect that people with small hands might find a manually adjustable wrench with a slimmer handle better for them.)

Anyway, the other thing is, this is a fun wrench to use, too, a nice toy for people who do handy things. Well worth the $24 and change, I find.

  1. I keep this all-round tool in the kitchen, so if I have a small repair to do, I needn't go down to the basement for the major tools.

  2. This review will be short:
Over the years I have bought maybe twenty Leatherman of every type, and except for one which was stolen from me, all the others I gave around to my friends - save the one I am currently using which is the new wave.
It is the best I have seen so far.
    E-xcel-lent.
    Six stars.

  3. gave away my other one to a guide in brazil. He loved it. I needed another one and this one is the perfect replacement.

  4. I love my Wave more than most of my other multitools. I own 6 multitools at the time of this writing, and my Wave is my current favorite that I carry and use all the time.

The one handed blade opening is great. The operation is smooth and the blades themselves are extremely sharp.

I've done a lot of abusive stuff to this multitool, and so far it has held up well. I even sawed through a PVC pipe once in an emergency which I was sure was going to destroy the non-wood saw blade. It cut through nicely and actually made the saw sharper than before (I accidentally cut myself with it seeing if it was still sharp).

It's a great tool and you won't be disappointed.

My only complaint about it is that the internal tools are a little too tight to open comfortably. I wish they were as easy to open as the tools on my Leatherman SuperTool 200.

  5. This is my 4th Leatherman and the 1st with outside blades. The quality of the New Wave is excellent and having access to the blades, file and saw without opening the tool is very useful. I work in construction and always have a Leatherman on my belt. Western Case makes an excellent, compact, nylon belt clip case for medium size Leatherman tools.

  1. These scissors work great for many things. I bought two pair on a gold box special. I put one pair in the kitchen gadget drawer, and the other in my tool box. The kitchen scissors are great for lopping off the top of plastic bags of frozen foods, etc. also great for cutting parchment for baking, cardboard for cakes, breaking down cereal boxes for the gargage, recycling and on and on. I use them many times a day. The tool box pair work great for package opening, cutting drop clothes, etc. Just about any dry cutting that involves streaches of thin stock is a snap with these. Yes they work on plastic bubble packs.

  2. I've used these to cut plastic and they even made it easy to cut aluminum "bubble wrap" in a straight line. Like them!

  3. Nice tool, cuts well. If you do a lot of cutting, it's worth every penny. Don't expect it to cut cardboard or Burlap. Paper, film and fine cloth, it works great.

  4. I bought a pair thinking "for this price, I can't lose." Well, I haven't lost yet and I have been buying these suckers for everyone I know! They are the greatest. I have had various electric scissors since they first came out and these are the first ones that really came through! Yay Black & Decker! I highly recommend you buy a pair. You can't beat the price and I guarantee you won't be unhappy with them! I have used them for quilting (they cut through batting like butter!) and I have used them on the awful packaging they come in (wish I had them then!) Ha! Anyway, I have used them on a lot of things and they cut great!

  5. I saw a pair of these in Marshalls for 12.00 the same weekend that I bought some Dynamat 10415 Xtreme Speaker Kit 2 Sheets to go in my car doors and these worked great for cutting that. I have also cut up two cardboard boxes. Great product.

  1. I bought one of these not expecting much, however iv been pleasantly surprised. A few moderate pressure strokes and my blades were completely revived. Its not so sharp it will slice your finger off just by touching, but its sharp enough to slice your skin deep enough to severely bleed with just a light stroke. iv got the cuts and nicks on my hands to prove it. definitely respect your blade after using this sharpener.

  2. I have been searching for a replacement for my sharpening stones now for ages. I've run through maybe 5 different sharpening systems all of which worked more or less well. Nothing worked as well as my series of oil stones but I wanted to find some sort of shortcut which didn't take as long or put me out in the garage for a half hour every week.

This is the first system I'd say equals oil stones. It's one of those delightful surprises which comes along rather rarely. Low cost and also operates as promised. If you want to get really picky - no - this doesn't equal exactly that super fine edge I get with the hardest of my oil stones but that edge only lasts a few cuts anyway. Back here in the real world, this works every bit as well and is much faster, easier, and also fun to use.

After your initial cut, you only need a few strokes to get your knives back to that honed edge sharpness. Low cost, ease of use - what more can you ask for?

  3. I purchased this based on a review in Cook's Illustrated. I was surprised how well just a cheap product worked. I used it about once a week and my knifes stay very sharp.

  4. I don't know if it's the angle that this product creates, or what, but my knives go dull very quickly after using this sharpener.

I bought this sharpener based on the reviews here on Amazon. And the first time I used it, I was impressed: a few swipes with the sharpener and my Cutco knives seemed to work great. After a few days, however, it became obvious that the sharpness does not last long. After sharpening a knife with this gadget, it seems good for the next cutting job, but the next day, it feels like a hacksaw and I find myself needing to use the sharpener again and again.

I'm back to using my flat stone. A few swipes on the stone and my knives stay sharp for several, even many, days.

If you can't use a sharpening stone, this might be better than nothing--barely.

  5. Well-designed, well-built, simple, and easy to use. What more could you ask? Sharp knives will simplify your life in the kitchen (as elsewhere), so buy this.

5 comments about Leatherman 830846 Skeletool Multitool.
  1. I've been carrying a Charge XTi around for almost 4 years at work. I picked a Skeletool up just as something to use around the house when I need it because it's a lot more convenient to carry around. Well now my Charge sits in a drawer at work and I just take this thing everywhere.

It's so much easier and more convenient to carry around and still has all the tools that I need 95% of the time. I like the shape a lot more than the other Leatherman tools and the pliers feel way more solid in my hand. It only has 4 different bits, but the storage is pretty handy. If you have the Leatherman bit set they'll all fit in that same storage space so you can carry around whatever you wish.

I went with the regular version instead of the CX version for two reasons. I wanted a knife that wasn't serrated so it'd be easier to sharpen. I also couldn't justify the increase in price since it really didn't decrease the weight by much (if at all) and just looks cooler in black.

  2. This lightweight compact tool focuses on the four things that I need the most: knife, pliers, wire cutters, and screw driver. It feels solid during use, the knife locks safely and has a nice edge. The screw driver has interchangeable bits to handle all types of screws. With the built in clip I don't have to thread a sheath onto my belt, I clip it to anything with a loop.

  3. I bought the Skeletool and the additional bit pack for use in my hobby as a professional bass angler. High performance bass boats have all sorts of fasteners that tend to vibrate loose, not to mention the need to remove trolling motor prop nuts to clear the errant line from break-offs, tighten reel handle nuts, remove hooks from fish and a myriad of other little chores during a day on the water.
I'm also a small wood working shop owner and have found a number of uses for this tool in the shop, especially with the extra bits. I have used many different multitools in the past from Leatherman, Gerber, SOG, Remington and they've all had their pro's and con's but this tool seems to shine at more of the little work-a-day annoyances that come up when you're away from the toolbox.
With the optional extra bit pack you won't have to chase those specialty screwdrivers (torx, square, star, allen)for every little loose fastener.
I would have preferred that it came with a sheath just because I don't like pocket clips but I had an old sheath from a plier type tool that
holds it securely in the open position, which is how I use it most frequently on the boat.

  4. I had the tool for a couple of months and thought it was a decent tool. It has all the good gadgets but the form could be better. The pliers are not as comfortable to use as I would hope - the screwdriver tip can dig into your hand. Anyway, I thought it was still okay until it failed when the pliers broke - more like shattered. I wasn't abusing them, but apparently I applied too much force. The pliers are really too thin at the joint. Turned out to be a waste of money for me. Now I have to pay to ship them to Leatherman and see what happens there.

  5. This is a really nice tool. It's several ounces lighter than any other multi-tool with comparable features, and very well designed at that. My favorite feature (sadly) is the bottle opener. Every other multi tool I've seen has a small flat bottle opener, which is only used when absolutely necessary. The Skeletool has a very functional opener, and with it's overall slim profile, which hooks nicely inside my jean's pocket, it's the first thing I reach for when cracking open a cold one.

The outside knife is also very handy, and comes surprisingly sharp (have the cut thumb to prove it). I didn't find it overly tight at first, and after a few dozen openings it did make it more smooth. It also locks very nicely, and feels very solid once opened. There's no noticeable wobble unless excess force is applied side to side. The cut-out makes it very easy to flick open. The slight curve in the body makes for a very comfortable hold when the knife is extended, and feels very solid.

The universal bit screw driver works well when one side of the body is opened, however you cannot use it when the body is collapsed. I do wish they had found two places to stach extra bits instead of only one, which could have let them extend the recepticle for the driver bits and make the driver usable while the body is closed. Oh, well.

The pliers work well, no spring action, though maybe a little wide at the tip. This likely adds strength, so I'm not complaining, but a more needle like profile would be nice (I might try grinding down the tip a bit). TAKE NOTE: The plyer head is NOT stainless, and if get it wet with salt water it will rust QUICKLY. I accidentally took in into the ocean while fishing, and the next day it was difficult to open. The blade also became very difficult to flick open and for a couple days I had to use two hands to open the blade. This was solved however by a little gun oil and loosening the torq screws ever so slightly, then working the pivots back and forth repeatedly. Everything opens fine now, however there are still rust spots on the plyer head in the coarse ground areas. This was my stupidity however, and not the tools fault. Steel and salt water don't mix.

It would have gotten 5 stars except that I felt it lacked one useful feature; A file. I can see several places they could have incorporated a file, even if in the outer handle structure. Maybe even on the side of the blade. If it had a file, it would have gotten 5 stars.

    SUMMARY:
A very good BASIC multi-tool. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles of larger tools, so if you want saws and scissors and a fold-out BBQ grill, go with something else. If you want a bare bones, light weight EDC tool that fits in your pocket (relatively comfortably) this is it. Highly Recommended.

  1. I love this model of pocket knife. It fits well on my key chain. I've had one of these in my pocket for most of the last 15 years.

  2. I thought this knife would be too small, but it's a perfect size for my keychain. I carry it with me everyday, I've dropped it a few times, but it is still works great - very durable. Strongly recommended.

  3. One of the very useful products I bought here. It comes handy to open a packet, work with some machinaries. It is working like a charm.

  4. I have purchased at least 10 of these key chain knives from Amazon. Have given them as gifts to my adult children and their spouses and I have one on each key chain. The scissors works in a pinch and the knife blade is very versatile. When (not if) I lose another, I will order more since they are a handy addition to any key chain!

  5. The merchant confirmed the purchase promptly and shipped it promptly. The product is exactly as advertised.

5 comments about Black & Decker BDSL10 36" Gecko Grip Level with Accu Mark.
  1. This level, for one, arrived damaged. For two, it was not level. I placed it on a surface and it showed it was not level. Fine. I then turned the level around and it showed that it was not level in the other direction. While the "Accu Marks" are a good idea, it needs to be paired with a better quality level. Needless to say, it was packed up and shipped back to Amazon.

  2. This product is excellent for hanging things at home. I got tired of marking up all of my walls when my other levels slipped. This one sticks to the walls, without leaving marks, while having to apply only some pressure. The "accu mark" targets look like they may come in handy, but aren't necessary since you can just add masking tape on the top of any level and mark your holes on the masking tape.

  3. I have the hardest time hanging things with two nails and still getting it level. I can measure and mark until I'm blue in the face and still hang it crooked. But with this level, I just line up the sliders to the back of my picture, put the level on the wall, mark the holes, drill and DONE. I have used it dozens of times since getting it and every thing is LEVEL. Finally.

After reading other reviews, one thing: it is not supposed to stick to the walls. The gecko pads keep it steady, and won't scuff up the wall while you hold it in place and mark your spots.

My ONLY complaint/design suggestion... I wish the sliders were removable, then I could put them both on one side and hang smaller pictures. That's why it gets 4 stars, you are limited on the size of thing you can hang.

  4. I put it on a flat surface and the level reads a specific mark. Then I turn it on the other side (left to right) and the reading is on other different level. (Should read the same).

  5. I was very excited to order this level as our local Lowe's had been sold out for over a month. The targets were very appealing since I hang a lot of art that requires multiple nails. However, it was not as easy to use as I had assumed. First, you must use a writing instrument small enough to reach through the target holes (not a deal-breaker, just a little annoying). Secondly, I did not consider the problem with the length of the level. I could not use it in several places I needed it most due to door or window frames getting in the way. This is where a shorter version with the targets would be most helpful.

I would recommend, but only if you need a level to begin with or have very specific needs - it is just not improved enough to justify replacing one you already have.

  1. I do interior design and I am used to measure 9,000 sqft buildings. I can tell you countless stories on how to mess up your measurements with a traditional tape mesure!!

Since I'm using the Bosch Laser Rangefinder, I can do a 9,000 sqft building in less than one hour (versus 4-6h) and I feel confident that my measurements are accurate!

This amazing device is affordable, accurate and durable! Not to mention it works both in Imperial & Metric units!!

It's truly a time & life saver!!! I highly recommend it!

  2. If you're the type where a tape measure just isn't quite accurate enough or you find yourself needing to measure spaces that are very difficult to reach, this is the product you need. I use it for remodeling work and it has proven invaluable for measuring, for example, the run along of the ceiling since, with remodeling, you can't assume it's exactly the same as the floor. I switch it to the metric system, since it is important to me that a particular piece must be 199mm instead the 197mm of the last piece. Highly recommended.

  3. Very nice tool, always good to have extra batteries with you, as one might run out of juice in the middle of measuring take.

  4. I was very excited to get a electronic tape measure for half the cost of a Hilti.
Unfortunately it can not display "inches only", but "calculates feet and inches" combined or metric.
I am concerned about making a mental conversion error from 6' 3 9/16" to 75 9/16 and had to return the device without using it. Looks to me a engineer designed this that is not familiar with the standard system.
I would hope the next release would add this basic feature.

  5. This thing is great, though sometime I wish for further range. But for most projects around the house it will be fine, if you are trying to size up a room real fast, this unit will do it, it can give you sq ft, or cubic ft with the push of a button. It is easy to operate, but read the manual, it is short. Though it would make it about 1/8 of a inch bigger, AA batteries would have been much better, they are same price as AAA, and have about 3x the life, wake up Bosch Engineers.

  1. This is a "perfect fit" with the Leatherman knife. Great tool when you go on trip.

  2. This is a nice addition to my Leatherman Wave and Skeletool with a wide variety of bits. The nylon sheath comes in handy too.

    Thanks,
    Chris Cunningham

  3. This is a good example of "several that I may never need, but some day I'll be glad I have them". Arrived on time, product as advertised. Very satisfied.

  4. I thought the bits and the tool would fit together in the sheath. It only fits one set and the sheath. It seems just a bit odd.

  5. Small enough and with the included sheath easy to carry. Be aware that the included tiny eyeglass bit is useless if you have the skeletool which has no bit holder for it.

5 comments about Leatherman 830850 Skeletool CX Multitool.
  1. A previous reviewer mentioned there being no real difference between the Stainless Steel Skeletool and the CX...Except for the little Carbon-Fiber strip...That is NOT correct!

    - The Stainless Steel model has a "Plain Edge" 420HC Steel Blade.
    - The CX model has a "Combination Edge" (partly plain, partly serrated) 154CM Steel Blade.

If you search the net, you'll see that between the 2 types; 420HC is noted as not being good for holding its' edge, while the 154CM will hold its' edge very well (but is hard to sharpen).

I already have a multi-tool (Swiss Army Champion Plus), it's a great tool to be sure, but for me out of the 30 tools in it I only ever use the small blade and once in a blue moon the scissors. It's a "little of everything" tool but not particularly strong in any one of the particular tools.

The allure of the Skeletool for me was:The simplicity, but being strong in what it gives you:
    1. On the CX model, the 154CM combo plain/serrated blade is beefy enough to do a job I'd be afraid of snapping the blade on the Swiss Army on, Batman could certainly cut through some tricky situations with this.
    2. Solid pliers. Strong enough to extract Joker's teeth, yet nimble enough to pull out his finger/toe nails.
    3. Easy to carry because of the Carabiner. The teeny little keyring on the Swiss Army is a joke and it's too bulky to put on a keychain (and if you did it would be a pain to put-on/take-off) or it's clunkin up one of your pockets. Who's got time to be fumbling around skin-tight rubber leotards for tools while doing an interrogation? Not The Bat! The Carabiner makes it nice and easy to just snap the tool to a Batbelt and be ever ready.
    4. 2 Phillips, 2 Flathead Screwdrivers. It's a multi-tool within a multi-tool. Sometimes even Alfred needs a hand with stuff around the house.
    5. Last, but certainly NOT least...It's SEXY! Pictures don't do this tool justice, you have to see it in person to really appreciate the "oooo ahhhh" factor. Certainly worthy of being in the Batbelt.

Bottom line; It's a well built, solid, versatile tool that keeps it simple.

  2. Its small enough to clip to your pocket, versatile enough to carry in a belt pouch with additional bits, and its everything a Leatherman needs to be without being bulky. Opening the knife without unfolding the tool is very handy. It costs a little more due to carbon fiber components and the serrated blade makes it just a bit more aggressive. Its an everyday carry tool!
Its a great value on Amazon plus you get Super Saver shipping... its hard to pass up.

  3. My Skeletool CX arrived a few days ago. A little Tuf-Glide and everything worked as smooth as silk. I noticed a number of complaints on Amazon. If the product they received is dysfunctional, I can't imagine a better company than Leatherman to deal with re: Customer Relations and repairs or replacement. Those who feel this multitool performs or resembles that of another company needs to give this tool more time. I've never seen anything quite like it since the original Spyderco Spyderwrench (which I also own). It's an ingenious design and the perfect balance between light weight, form and function. I'll always have my Wave and Charge close by, but Tim Leatherman has created what I consider to be his best multitool EDC with the Skeletool. By the way.......the carbon fiber makes the CX a jewel.

  4. I purchased this for my husband for fathers day along with the accessories and case. He loves it. He says it is very sharp and he uses it in the yard all the time and also carries it around so he had it just in case. The screw driver accessory kit is always handy because you have a screw driver available at al times. This all fits nicely in the case and hangs on his belt. We are thinking now that the boys need one for Christmas.

  5. Having owned the Skeletool CX for 2 days now here are my thoughts.

First, it has a pocket clip--When it was announced I tried to find this out, even calling the company and could not get a straight answer. I always have a bunch of stuff in my pockets, car keys, etc and a large knife is not something I want to add to the confusion.

Second, I was carrying a Benchmade mini-griptillian and I love it. It also has a pocket clip--my only complaint with the benchmade is that it is just a knife. Need a screwdriver, go find one. Pliers, go get those too.

The Skeletool provides the tools I need without extra stuff or extra weight. It fits in my pocket and with the clip is handy when I need it.
Weight is very acceptable, like the benchmade, I don't know it is there until I need it. The layout is great, access the knife without having to open anything. The screwdriver is accessed by a simple opening of the tool, and one more opening and you have the pliers. The carabiner allows you to clip this to a belt loop, or a backpack, etc. also.

Only 2 SMALL things keep this from being perfect. One it is slightly wider than my benchmade so reaching in my pocket around it is a little more difficult and secondly, the knife blade requires a little effort to get it out vs my benchmade. It can be done one handed, just not quite as easy as I would like.
The blade is RAZOR SHARP, right out of the box. Great knife, good quality--a winner.

Oh, I would have preferred the Stainless but the CX is the only way to get a serrated blade.
