5 comments about Racor Pro Wall-Mount Bike Hanger #PIW-1R/PIW-1W.
  1. This product is easy to install and even easier to use. Simple, functional, practical. Best of its kind that I've seen.

  2. The rubber covering the hook rips within two weeks of using the hook, coming off and then the sharp metal edge of the hook scratched the wheel rims. TWO of these hooks did this, so its a major design flaw. and the metal bends out over time, meaning that you have to bend it back in.

Look elsewhere for a good hook, one with a a round metal hook and rubberized coating rather than a cheap rubber cap like this one.

  3. This product worked as advertised to get our hybrid bikes off of the garage floor and onto the wall. I see no reason why it shouldn't work with any type of bike, since it holds them by the wheels. Installation was as easy as you would imagine - just make sure to screw it into a wall stud.

  4. It's not the most beautiful wall hook, but really, none of them are. It simply works great and isn't too big. You MUST use wall anchors to mount it. If you are not handy, then get HELP!

  5. Item works well for our childrens' bikes. However, we have to aid one with a bungee cord because the spokes on one of the bikes does not allow the tire to sit completely within the grasp of the hanger. The other two bikes don't have metal spokes, so there is no problem. You will leave tire marks on your wall, even if you get the guard for the back tire, so I would recommend using these in the garage or storage building only.

5 comments about Bosch RA1165 Under-Table Router Base with Above-Table Hex Key.
  1. I have a Bosch 1617EVSPK kit that came with one of these bases, and a plunge base. I also have a router table and mounted the base fixed base to it, thinking that I could use the plunge base for ALL of my other work. Wrong! Somtimes you realy need the fixed base, its smaller, and much easer to use with templates. After removing it from the router table to use as a hand held one too many times, I decided to just buy a fixed base router for the table, when I found this......now all I have to do is slip it into the fixture I need, (router table, fixed base, or plunge base) and away I go.

  2. This under table router base is an excellent addition for a router table. It easily and quickly clamps to the router motor making it hassle free to go from router base to router table in just a couple of minutes. It works great with my Bosch router.

  3. If you often need to switch between hand-held and under-table router use, this product is well worth the price. Once installed under the table, you need only quickly change the motor to be operational. One caveat: I find it easier to install the router bit into the motor housing before sliding the unit into the under-table base, since Bosch routers require 2 wrenches to tighten the bit. Coarse adjustment is fast, and fine adjustment can be made either under the table or through the mounting plate depending upon the system you use. I have a Freud router table with a customized fence and dust collection system, and this works well once the base is mounted. Highly recommended.

  4. It would not work with the Hitachi router. According to Bosch parts, only their routers. But it looks like it would be a great addition.

  5. The router base was easy to install on my Rockler router table. I had to drill one hole. It works great and costs significantly less than other router lifts. I find it no problem to release and latch the lever on the router.

5 comments about 2-in-1 Spring-Arm Fluorescent Magnifier Desk Lamp - Large 7" x 5.2" Lens - 5 Diopter Magnification.
  1. My 88 year old mother-in-law asked for this to help her in her hobby work. She is legally blind with macular degeneration, but a well lit magnifier helps. She had a low cost 3x purchased at local home improvement store but wanted a larger lens, higher power and better light. After trying this 5x magnifying lamp out, she has gone back to the old one. She found this too heavy, hard to position, and the light didn't suit her. I think it is great, and my wife and I can use it for our projects. It was not obvious (instructions are in poorly transliterated Chinese to English) that the head can be rotated sideways. I just noticed that from the photo as I wrote this review. It moves only after a lot of force is applied. (Also it was difficult to fit the very stiff wire into the base when inserting the lower end of the arm.) I felt I might break it, but it went. This makes it much easier to position, so maybe Mom will find it usable, now. Still, she did have other issues with it. Most serious hobbyists and professionals should be delighted, I would think.

  2. I have been struggling for so long just to see well enough to do simple daily things. All I could find was a 2X/3X hand held magnification glass. I happened to come accross an item on-line and with further investigation I found the 2 in 1 Spring Arm Fluorescent Magnifying Lamp with a large 5X lens. This lens is just the best. I had been trying to use that hand held glass that measured 4X4 for the 2X and a small monogram area in the handle for the 3X. This 2 -n 1 measures 7x5 and is 5X through the whole viewing field. I use it for my computer, the mail,my Bible and crafts. It is enableing me to do things I have not been able to do for a very long time.

  3. I bought this product because I paint miniature figures as a hobby. This works very well light up and magnify the miniature so I can see the how the detail painting looks closeup..
The base is nice and heavy so I don't worry about knocking the light off my work table. In combination with the helping hands holders the work on my miniatues goes more quickly and my work is of a higher quality.
    Highly recommended

  4. I purchased this magnifier/lamp for the purpose of using it to read small numbers on financial documents. I had been using a small hand-held magnifier with only a 2x or 3x power. This was very inadequate because it left my eyes feeling strained.

This magnifier/lamp looks much smaller in the picture. When the FedEx driver left it at my door, I had to struggle to just lift the box up from the ground. It weighed 20 pounds. I opened the box and immediately noticed the magnifier/lamp was much larger than I had expected. It reminded me of the equipment that you see at the dentist's office i.e. the light-device that the dentist moves over your face to examine your teeth. It comes in two pieces that you have to assemble. Due to the weight and awkwardness of the two pieces, you may need two people to put it together. I did it myself but it was a struggle.

The base of the magnifier/lamp takes up a large space on a table or desk. 12 inches wide and 10 inches deep with about the same size for the magnifier/light part of the unit. This size is really too large to leave on a regular desk so, for now, I put it on a side table. Also, due to the size and weight of the unit, it is very difficult to try to change the positioning of the unit over the documents. You really have to leave the magnifier/lamp in one spot and then change the positioning of your documents to suit the magnifier/lamp.

The magnifier itself is 5x so it does a great job of blowing up small numbers and the light illuminates the area extremely well. The size of the magnifier is large so you can pretty much see a whole 8x10 sized piece of paper through the magnifier without having to move the paper around as you would with a small hand-held magnifier.

Since the magnifier/lamp is so large, I may not use it for the purpose that I originally bought it for, but I will definitely keep it. This magnifier/lamp would be best suited in a laboratory or work shop environment but not an office environment.

One more thing - if you want to move it, you're moving 20 pounds each time.

Also, the plug is a 3-pronged one which can be important if you planned on using an extension cord

  5. This lamp/magnifier is of sturdy construction, has a very nice-sized magnifier that provides an excellent view range.

If I have a complaint it is that the light could be a touch brighter, for the cost of the product I do not feel I should have to go buy new bulbs for it- but to be fair the lights get the job done.

As a point of reference: I use the light for miniature painting; illumination, magnification, and the ability to manipulate the positioning easily are all very important to me. This lamp gets two of the three perfectly and the lighting is certainly sufficient to the task.

5 comments about Vornado 530B 3 Speed Compact Air Circulator, Black.
  1. The price is right. It looks good. It moves the air as promised, but it is noisier than I expected on the medium and hight speed settings.

  2. By far the best fan I have ever experienced in my life!
Have you ever in your life layed down on the floor on a hot day because the temp. on the floor was cooler? Well, with this device you dont have to lay down anymore to get cool. Ive use many other fans in my lifetime, round ones, square ones, oscillating ones, etc. And some of them seemed to work ok and kept me cool sometimes but there were other days where it felt like the only air coming out is hot air. But with the vornado, even on a hot day your air will be cool, just leave it on the ground in your room and point it up. i have a 10 foot ceiling and when i do this the whole room feels cool and I'm also able to feel a cool slight breeze

  3. I'm posting this on all Vornado listings on Amazon, as all potential purchasers need to be aware of the shortcomings of Vornado's warranty policy.

I purchased two fans from Vornado direct. Both were larger, more expensive units (280 & 285) that had either ten year or lifetime warranties.

One year after the purchase, the 285 began to vibrate upon start-up. The fan blades would barely revolve, and the fan emitted a loud rattling sound.

I called Vornado's Customer Service and spoke to a Paula. Upon describing the problem, she stated the motor was bad and e-mailed an RMA. However, she told me I would be required to pay for the return shipping.

As this was a large, heavy, floor standing unit, I told her that I would be returning the motor only. She gave no indication that was a problem.

The motor was delivered to Vornado. 5 days later, they called and refused to perform the service without the remainder of the fan assembly. They also had the temerity to tell me that I had voided the warranty by removing the motor, and wanted to charge me for the repair, but again, only AFTER I spent additional money to send the rest of the frame back!

I have 3 problems with Vornado's actions in this matter: 1.) I had to return a defective IN WARRANTY product at my expense 2.) I told Paula upfront I would only be sending back the motor, and she didn't object, and 3.) where was I supposed to get a box large enough for a plus-three-foot-tall, floor-standing unit?

Disgusted, I told Vornado to throw the motor away and forget the whole thing. When I disassembled the unit to extract the motor, I found the fan to be of a cheap design and construction, so it would be possible that I would have a similar re-occurrence of the same problem in the future. Why waste further money on something that might fail again?

BTW: Both phone calls involved LONG hold times to get a customer service person. So, if you're forced to call them regarding service, be prepared to have something else to do while you wait.

Vornado might claim to stand behind their customers. After dropping the original +$150 on the two fans, going out-of-pocket for the shipping to return the motor, and having to dispose of the useless, motorless 285 frame, I can definitely attest to having felt Vornado there. My advice: Find another fan from a better company. Vornado brags about how their products are built in the U.S.; who cares, if you're not going to support your customers?

  4. I have the Vornado 530 3 speed compact fan. It was great for the first year of owning it.. It was very powerful and provided great "white noise" while I slept at night. I live in So. California so I pretty much used it every night while I sleep mainly because I can't sleep without the sound of a fan running, and well, I live in So. California. But anyway, after a year of owning it it started squeaking and at times the blade wouldn't spin when I would first turn turn the fan on. I have cleaned the motor and sprayed WD-40 everywhere I could, but to no avail, it continued to squeak despite cleaning it as best I could. One would think that these little fans would last for longer than a year.

  5. I purchased this product to help currculate the heat that blows from our pellet stove. This was a great solution because now I do not need to turn on the heat at all the air cirulator has worked so well that the whole house is nice and warm. Saving us a lot of money on cold days!!!!

5 comments about Speakman Co. S2222AF Anystream 10-Jet Double Showerhead.
  1. My wife and I became intrigued with the Speakman twin showerhead on a recent vacation to a Westin hotel, which features their own version of the speakman showerhead in their guest rooms. (Westin also sells the dual-head showerhead- but at a hefty premium over Noble Direct's price).

Through about a month of use, we have no complaints. Install was easy- pretty much just unscrew your old shower head, and screw this one on (pliers recommended). Build construction is pretty solid too- you are getting a somewhat hefty piece of shower equipment. Actual use has been great. Water pressure, even with the water-saving rings installed, is more than adequate across the two heads.

  2. I stayed at a Westin Inn a few months ago and fell in love with this shower head! Ordered it on-line and put it up in seconds. Everyone in the family can't wait to get drenched in this great shower.

  3. I was fortunate enough to experience this product installed in a condo we rented in the Denver area last month, and it's fantastic. It provides a very large area of water spray, with just the right pressure, although it's adjustable to suit your needs. I came home and ordered one from Amazon right away, installs in minutes. You only need to provide your own teflon pipe thread tape, screws on easily with no toolds needed, and you're set for a great shower. Buy this one and enjoy!!!

  4. I installed this speakman double showerhead a month ago and it is a joy to use every morning. The stream is very strong but not harsh and feels great. It puts out so much more water than my old one. You can't go wrong with this one.

  5. My son stayed at our home and used our shower. He raved about our double shower head that we have. So, his anniversary was coming up and we decided to purchase one for him and his wife as a gift. I searched the internet for the best price and this company had it. I ordered it and it said it would take several days to get so I thought I'd have to give him a photo of it in a card until their shower head gift arrived. To our surprise the shower head arrived in just two days. I wouldn't hesitate to use them again.

    ANOTHER BRIGHT IDEA
1 broken bulb pushes contamination to 300 times EPA limits
Poisonous vapor so bad, researchers recommend families no longer use CFLs
    August 11, 2008

    © 2008 WorldNetDaily

Compact fluorescent light bulbs have long been known to contain
poisonous liquid mercury, but a study released earlier this year shows
the level of mercury vapor released from broken bulbs skyrockets past
    accepted safety levels.

Following a story reported by WND last year about a Maine woman quoted
$2,000 for cleaning up a broken fluorescent bulb (or CFL) in her home,
the Maine Department of Environmental Protection studied the dangers
of broken CFLs and the adequacy of recommended cleanup procedures.

The results were stunning: breaking a single compact fluorescent bulb
on the floor can spike mercury vapor levels in a room - particularly
    at a child's height - to over 300
    times the EPA's standard accepted
    safety level.

Furthermore, for days after a CFL has been broken, vacuuming or simply
crawling across a carpeted floor where the bulb was broken can cause
mercury vapor levels to shoot back upwards of 100 times what's
    considered safe.

Following the study, the Maine DEP made eight new recommendations for
usage and cleanup of CFLs, including the recommendation to not even
use the bulbs in carpeted rooms where children, infants, or pregnant
women live. The likelihood of breakage, near impossibility of cleanup
and risk of prolonged exposure, the study concluded, are just too great.

The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences website
acknowledges that Brown University published a similar study last
month confirming the Maine results: breaking a fluorescent bulb sends
mercury vapor levels to unsafe levels for the elderly, pregnant and
    young - and those
    levels remain elevated for days.

The NIEHS website states, "Today's CFLs underscore mercury's volatile
vapor form, which is still a significant health concern - ventilation
reduces but does not eliminate this toxicant. Mercury vapor inhalation
can cause significant neural damage in developing fetuses and children."

According to a Mercury Policy Project overview paper, unpolluted air
contains 1-2 nanograms (or billionths of a gram) of mercury vapor per
cubic meter. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has established
a level of 300 ng/m3 as the safety threshold for prolonged exposure to
    the poisonous gas.

Some states, though not the federal government, have also established
a safety threshold for a one-time, acute exposure to mercury vapor.
California, for example, has established that any level of exposure
over 1,800 ng/m3 has potentially harmful health effects.

    The Maine study, however,
discovered that upon breakage of a CFL,
mercury vapors can rise "with short excursions over 25,000 ng/m3,
sometimes over 50,000 ng/m3, and possibly over 100,000 ng/m3 from the
breakage of a single compact fluorescent lamp."

In other words, the study found breaking a single bulb can send
mercury vapor levels in a room to over 50 times the level that
California considers dangerous and to over 300 times what the EPA has
established as a safe level for prolonged exposure.

Researchers in the study broke 45 bulbs in a variety of flooring
surfaces and then studied lingering gas levels after a variety of
cleanup techniques. The results contradicted a number of commonly held
    thoughts on CFLs, for example:

    * Though proponents of CFLs often argue a single bulb only
contains 5 mg of mercury, the study found it was an average. The bulbs
actually range from 0.9 to 18 mg of mercury.

    * Though the EPA's
Energy Star program recommends placing a broken
bulb "in a glass jar with a metal lid or in a sealed plastic bag," the
study discovered mercury vapor leaches right through plastic bags. "Of
the 12 different types of containers tested during the 23 different
tests, the plastic bag was found to be the worst choice for containing
mercury emissions," researchers stated. "Based upon this study, the
DEP now suggests that a glass container with metal screw lid with a
gum seal be used to contain debris."

    * Though the Energy Star guidelines suggest ventilating a room for
15 minutes before attempting cleanup, the study found that in every
case - even in well-ventilated rooms - it took over an hour to drop
mercury vapor levels below the EPA safety standard.

    * And for cleanup on carpets, the Energy Star guidelines suggest
vacuuming and disposing of the dust bag. The Maine study, however,
    discovered that
vacuuming served to simply stir the vapor into the air
and "irreversibly contaminate the vacuum". The researchers,
acknowledging it was inconvenient, recommended only one course of
action for broken bulbs on carpet: remove the carpet.

The Maine study also discovered, however, that carpets aren't the only
    problem with broken bulbs.

"All three flooring surfaces in this study (pre-finished hardwood,
short nap carpet, and shag carpet) were able to be cleaned up with
pre-study cleanup guidance so that they looked clean. However, mercury
vapors emanating from all three surface types were detected,
especially when agitated, for weeks after the cleanup of a break. ...
Flooring surfaces, once visibly clean, can emit mercury immediately at
the source that can be greater than 50,000 ng/m3."

"Flooring surfaces that still contain mercury sources emit more
mercury when agitated than when not agitated. This mercury
    source in
the carpeting has particular significance for children rolling around
on a floor, babies crawling, or non mobile infants placed on the floor."

As WND has reported, several countries, including the United States,
have signed laws that will eventually phase out typical incandescent
light bulbs and dictate their replacement with CFLs.

Even the U.S. EPA, however, has recognized that recent studies show
CFLs aren't safe for all circumstances.

The Maine study may prove the most condemning of the use of
    fluorescent bulbs yet.

Part of the study detailed the potential hazards posed by mercury vapor:

"There are a number of studies documenting neurotoxicity as a
consequence of inhalation of elemental mercury in adults. ... Studies
documented changes in EEG, deficits in peripheral nerve function,
autonomic effects, psychological and sleep changes, and deficits in
    fine motor performance,
    visuomotor coordination, visual reaction time,
visual scanning, memory, concentration, and executive function."

In children, and especially unborn children, the results can be far worse:

"It is well established that the developing organism may be much more
sensitive than the adult to neurotoxic agents. For example,
methylmercury exposure can produce devastating effects in the fetus,
including cerebral palsy, blindness, deafness, and even death, while
producing no or minimal effects in the mother."

Children are also more susceptible to mercury vapor exposure from
    broken CFLs:

"Infants and toddlers also have a much higher rate of respiration than
adults. Therefore they have a higher exposure to similar
concentrations. They also are lower to the floor and therefore closer
to the source of the exposure and presumably more apt to obtain a
    concentrated dose of mercury."

    The study, however,
    didn't leave out the elderly:

"Elderly and unhealthy individuals may already be at comprised health
and be more susceptible to mercury effects than a healthy individual.
For example, mercury does kidney damage which could exacerbate an
    already existing kidney disease."

Unlike many poisons that can be flushed out of the body, mercury
bioaccumulates, which means the various tissues store the toxin in
increasing amounts, a particular concern as the use of CFLs increases.

The Mercury Policy Project summary paper quotes an estimate that the
U.S. currently releases 2 tons of mercury vapor into the environment
each year from broken fluorescent bulbs alone. Two tons contrasts
startlingly with the level the EPA has established as dangerous to
human health: a mere 300 billionths of a gram.

  2. I was so excited to find these mini lights that fit our kitchen recessed fixtures. I ordered them in May, and less than 3 months later, every single one has burned out. WAY too short a life, and WAY too expensive. A good idea if only they'd be longer lasting.

  3. In Arizona, local retailers sell these bulbs for under a buck.... check for local incentives from your energy company!

  4. I've searched for the best bulb, tried maybe 5 different brands and the best ones to get are from "N:vision". They turn on right away even though it doesn't say that on the packaging and the light is a soft glow. The ones that say that they turn on right away have a sterile glow to them, and most others (e.g. Globe) have about a 2 second delay for turning on after you flip the switch.
    Hope this helps,
    -b

  5. Delivery was fast. The 13-watt is a little dim, but will get the 23-watt the next time.

  1. My only complaint about this tool is that I don't know what makes it so much more special than the other tools like the circular saw, impact driver, grinder, etc. to make it considerably more expensive. Other than that it is solid and cuts wonderfully.

  2. I am getting started in woodworking and purchased a Dewalt drill and needed a Jig Saw . Since the drill comes with 2 batteries - I looked at the Dewalt Jig/tool only. I was impressed with the shipping and how sturdy the Jig Saw is . I used it on a book case project I did and it worked very well. I am very pleased with the purchase I made.

  3. I have a problem with the T-shank blades staying in. This could be my inexperience with proper insertion. I like the tool.

  4. Just wanted to let everyone know that this jigsaw is just great. DeWalt have come out with a fantastic product here. I'd rather use this than any corded jigsaw, it does such a great, quick job.

  5. After using B&D, Skil, & Craftsman jigsaws for all my remodelling and furniture (primarily oak and cherry Queen Anne designs), I finally bought this baby, and WOWWIE! it's like a fine surgeon's scalpel compared to a toy hatchet! Unbelievable what control you have with this saw--your blade runs true and doesn't warp or go offtrack. Wish they would add a laser guidance light to it.

5 comments about Rubbermaid 1172 ActionPacker 24-Gallon Storage Container.
  1. This is an excellent storage container. Durable, sturdy, tough, keeps water out, the lid stays on well being locked in place by the handles. I've owned one for years and bought several more recently for storage in a damp, dirty basement. I really like how touch the containers are and the fact that you can lock them with a padlock if you want (although it requires 2 padlocks per container at this size). Of the three sizes offered, this size is my favorite because it is large enough to hold a lot but more manageable if you need to carry them around.

  2. I bought a dozen of these trunks 10 years ago to store my belongings and move them easily. I still have those trunks today. They have been shipped across the world and are still in good condition. Of course some have dents in the bottom from shipping, but they are still usable.

Now these boxes are in my shed storing various things. I have over a 100 pounds of books in many of them. These things are waterproof and bug proof. You can even lock them though it takes 2 locks. If you are going to lock it go with this trunk, because the other model that has only 1 latch is easy to "pop" the lid out..

The trunk's price has gone up from $20 at Super Kmart 10 years ago , but the trunk is well worth the price to store all the "junk" you just can't throw away. It definitely deserves 5 starts.

  3. I needed a durable, waterproof container to transport my tools and general handyman items. During Tropical Storm Fay, I drove from Florida to Tennessee in constant rain, heavy at times. These containers were strapped to a "hitch buddy", a trailer mounted metal cargo carrier. Not one drop of water entered either of the container. I checked out other similar containers, but the Rubbermaid Action packer is clearly top of line.

  4. This is my second unit of this model. Use for travel keeping items dry in bed of pickup and also use as storage of tools in a barn with high humidity. It keeps tools dry and rust free. Well constructed. Can be used for seating on camping trips.

Except for that serious flaw the Action Packer is sturdy, and has convenient latches. I would not buy this for camping or other outdoor use.
