5 comments about Porter-Cable 42234 Corner Chisel.
- This product works ok. You still need to check and clean up with a chisle to make your corners sharp.
- This corner chisel worked very well. I use it for many things but the main reason for the corner chisel is I convert old wood window screens into windows by routing a rabbit for the new glass to go into but I need to square the corners. That is were the corner chisel comes in, it just takes seconds.
- I picked this chisel up because I have watched Norm Abram of 'The New Yankee Workshop' use one for years and it just looked too good to be true. It seemed so much faster and easier than using a regular chisel to clean up the corners after running a router in a jig, but in this case what you see is exactly what you get.
I have used this to install some hinges on a door as well as cleaning up the corners of some recessed jamb switches and it works just as I would expect. I can't speak for some others who claim they received one with a dull cutting edge, but in my case the edge was sharp enough to easily cut a person if they aren't careful.
This corner chisel isn't fancy by any means, but it does what is was designed to do, and it does it well. One simple hit from the hammer and the corner is cleaned up with a straight sharp corner and in rare occasions it may be necessary to lift up the chip with a straight chisel, but the hard part, and the crisp corner, is done.
One note to new users, depending upon the density of the wood and the depth of the cut they are looking for it might take a few tries to get a feel for how hard you need to strike this with a hammer.
The only negative I can see is that this is fairly small, so if you drop it into a tool pouch you might have to go digging for it later. Since this isn't a tool I use often, I have retained the factory packaging and just put it back into the plastic package after each use to keep it clean and make it easier to find.
- You won't be disappointed. It is well designed, does not require instructions, and has few moving parts to break. Mine is still working after 2+ years. I haven't even had to sharpen it-yet. You won't find it at Harbor Freight. It is worth it. Just buy the dumb thing! Tom
- Is it me, or what? Once I router cut a door-hinge mortise using a Porter-Cable hinge mortise jig, I can't seem to get the Porter-Cable corner chisel far enough back in the corner of the router cut to get the edges lined-up. After I use the corner chisel, I still need to a wood chisel to take out a little more in order to make a perfect corner. It almost looks like I need to do a little grinding work on the corner chisel with the bench grinder to make it align properly.

5 comments about Factory Reconditioned Ryobi 15-Inch 6 Amp Electric String Trimmer #ZRRY41002.
- I have had my Ryobi Electric String Trimmer for about a year and used it sparingly. Today it stopped working about half way through the yard so I went on the interenet and found out why.
Robyi has a defective switch ... I took it apart and wired the two brown wires to the blue and light brown wires and now it works without a switch ... a little scary and dangerous but it works.
I emailed Robyi for a replacement switch assembly and we will see if they come through or not. Amazon carries the switch for only 3.22 but the shipping is $7.12 ... See answer 1286 for the part # UT41002A-36 for the switch assembly.
Here is the Amazon link for the switch:
SWITCH ASSEMBLY UT41002A-36
Here is the site to read about the problem ... surprising that Consumer Reports rated it as a Best Buy in Mar 2006 ... they usually are better than that but missed this one!
Link to the discussion about the problem: would not let me put it all on one line so open a new window and paste 1st half and hit return, then come back and copy 2nd half and paste it onto the 1st address in the new window. I checked it and it worked that way:
http://www.ryobitools.com/dc/dcboard.php?az=printer_friendly&forum=112&topic_id=597
Not hard to replace, but frustrating that this Robyi has a bad part in it!
J
PS: I may just put me a switch in its line ... that would work!
This is my first Robyi product and probably my last!
- I was very disappointed when I realized that I needed to replace our old electric ryobi trimmer as it finally broke and they stopped making them. The reconditioned one I purchased was wonderful and I was a bit nervous about purchasing something reconditioned. We have 4 attachements and everything works perfectly. I would recommend this product.
- I ordered my first Reconditioned Ryobi 15 inch trimmer a couple of weeks ago. It arrived with a critical small piece not attached. The piece missing was the "sleeve" or "collar" that allows the shaft of the attachment (string trimmer, edger, etc.) to attach to the shaft of the powered unit. I tried to attach the sleeve myself and could not. I boxed it up, sent it back, and requested an exchange. The second trimmer arrived yesterday. I unpacked it, began to assemble it and the threads on a critical bolt were stipped. The bolt is the one that tightens the clamp around the tube of the attachment once it is inserted into the tube of the powered unit. I could not simply replace the bolt because it is built into a plastic "winged head" so the user can tighten and untighten it without any tools. So again, I couldn't use the trimmer because of a small, simple yet critical component. I am very disappointed since both units were not usable due to a simple quality issue that should have been addressed before leaving the factory. When simple things like this are overlooked, I question the overall quality of the reconditioned product. I will request a refund and do not recommend this product.
- The unit is like new. Hard to tell it is reconditioned. Before I bought this I attempted to replace the switch in the old one. That apparently was not the problem. So I have a Ryobi string trimmer that could be reonditioned, but don't know where to send it.
- This one is on the trash heap today. Unless you are looking for a challenge to earn sainthood, do not buy this. It guarantees hours of winding cord and minutes of productive work.

5 comments about DEWALT D26441K Heavy-Duty 2.4 Amp Orbital 1/4 Sheet Sander with Cloth Dust Bag.
- Works fine, but is hard on people with carpel tunnel (buzzy). Good value, and has OK dust collection when used with a shop vac (but nearly none with the canister).
- Highest recommended sander. It made me throw away my broke makita instead of repairing it. It is a work horse that will pay for itself on sandpaper alone compaired to the velcro round sanding disks used on the makita. I've read a few reviews about noise. They gave me a laugh. when someone makes a silent sander I'll call it loud. makes no more or less noise that any sander I've ever used.. buy this tool with confadence. Never thought I'd say any tool maker can build a better product than a makita but dewalt does on this.
- I've read that some people are complaining of it making a whining sound upon startup. I didn't experience this. This is the best sander I've ever used. After only using lower quality sanders like Ryobi this was a pleasant surprise. The only con was that putting the sheets on is a bit tricky at first.
- I have been using this product to refinish my cabinets and it works great on flat surfaces.
- Vendor: Fast service, well packed, no problems - Give 'em 5 stars.
Product: Another DeWalt quality product. Makes wood and stuff smooth as a baby's behind and does it with ease and speed. The dust bag helps contain the dust, though it doesn't get all of it. In sum, Black & Decker and DeWalt have done it again. (This DeWalt Orbital 1/4 Sheet Sander replaces a Black and Decker palm sander that I've has since wood was discovered and was used to build my house many years ago).

3 comments about Dremel 685-01 48 Pc Cutting/Carving Accessory Set.
- Recieved this dremel set for christmas. At first, other than the sanding drums, I thought it was for metal working only. However I have found that the burr tools do a real nice job carving on wood. They don't load up as I thought they would and with a light touch they don't "burn" the wood. Very nice for undercutting profiles and shaping small knobs. These are a very useful addition to my dremel arsenal and will get a lot of use.
Highly recommend.
- Everything worked as I had expected so no complaints on how any of the pieces performed. My only complaint, however, is that in all of these little sets they give you a ton of little cut off discs.... why not just say something has "10 items, plus a freakin' load of cut-off discs you'll probably never use".
- This kit offers fewer cutting and shaping tools than I had expected. Sandpaper rings and disks outweigh the package.

5 comments about KOHLER K-4732-0 Transitions Elongated Quiet-Close Toilet Seat, White.
- I was tired of my toddler toilet insert ring leaving a wet ring that I had to constantly clean up. My twin girls also did not like handling the ring. This seat solved the problem. It is lightweight enough for them to lift and close the lid and they can sit on it comfortably. Although it is plastic, it feels quite sturdy and comfortable for an adult as well. The only drawback - the curved toddler seat will touch some adults in the back while seated. This is a minor complaint compared to the other problems I was having! This product has improved the overall look of my guest bathroom and has made it useful for everyone, not just the toddlers! I am considering purchasing another for my master bath to avoid the messy ring there as well! Installation was very simple and completed in minutes by me. Now if I could just solve the stepstools-in-the-way issues, my bathrooms would be perfect again!
- Love this seat. Its very easy for my son to get on and off, and we don't have to change anything to use it ourselves. Seems sturdy enough to last through several children potty training. Its the only kind I could find like this, and we bought a second one after a few weeks because we liked it so much.
- This seat is the perfect addition to our Kohler Memoirs toilet in our 3 year-old son's bathroom. Made potty-training a breeze because he can go all by himself. No more cleaning out the little potty! Highly recommend and a great deal through Amazon. In fact I just purchased a second one for grandma and grandpa's house.
- We love these seats and have them installed on all 3 of our toilets. Now we don't have to worry about where to store the children's seats or worry about the kids dropping their seats in the toilet. :) The child seat does NOT "poke" an adult when it is up.
Also, love the quiet close and the fact that you can take it off to clean under back where it attaches to the toilet.
Plan on getting these seats for the new house too!
- i love this seat. you do need an elongated toilet -- it won't work on a circular seat (we tried). a terrific training seat -- my two daughters feel comfortable using it by themselves. i would recommend this to anyone who hates those potty training seat inserts (they got dirty with each and every use). and i would suggest the potty stool by Elite Child Corp. the two together make the bathroom experience an easy one for both child and parent.

1 comments about Rubbermaid 1002-24-220 Lunch Pack Blue Ice.
- I'm happy with this product, it's just the right size for taking lunch to school or work. However, the package will ultimately leak after some weeks or months of use and will permanently stain the lunch bag. My solution: put it inside a quart-size zip top bag.

5 comments about Dishwasher Rack Repair ULTIMATE - WHITE w/130 caps.
- As described, fantastic price and my dishwasher looks great again!! I would diffinitly recommend this product to friends and family.
- I bought these-they are difficult and messy to apply-the glue is hard to get into the hole and if applying many-the glue begins to dry on the applicator-it does not give good directions. The glue/paint does not cover up or fix the rust spot even when you get off the rust. As a whole, it is ok but nothing special. I should have saved my money.
- This was a second order for this product, as the first time I didn't order enough. The caps in this order weren't as snug as the first, as a result of which they easily pop off during unloading, ending up in various inconvenient places in the dishwasher. I suppose this is a matter of quality control.
- Price of two dishwasher racks: $240. Price of this product: $15. I saved $225. The product is easy to apply and works great. We have had the tips on the dishwasher rack for about a month now and not one has failed or come off.
- Dishwasher Rack Repair Kit with 130 caps:
I was faced with purchasing a new dishwasher, due to racks having rusting prongs. I found that the racks were not sold separately. This was unfortunate. However, I found a solution: The Dishwasher Rack Repair Kit which included 130 caps along with the adhesive to install the tips. This saved the day. Instead of spending $320 on a new dishwasher I spent a total of $19.99 (including shipping and very fast delivery) and the racks are almost better than when they were new...they have a cushion now! Believe me, I'll pass the word. GLK, Torrance, CA 9/15/08

5 comments about InSinkErator Badger 1/2 HP Food Waste Disposer - Badger 5.
- In the fifth year of my 1/3 horse food disposer's life, it died. I ordered the 1/2 horse badger and as usual Amazon delivered it immediately. The installation went off quickly and without a hitch. It has been in service for approx. 2 months and it works fine...no problems.
- Installation is straight forward and the quality of the materials is very good. The problem is their idea of impellers or blades. There are just 2 moving parts that grind things up and they more or less bash the food into smaller pieces. If you put anything small such as the ends of a carrot or an apple core, the initial bashing works, but very shortly the remains of the food spin to the outer edged beyond the reach of the impellers and it just stays there. Turning the unit on and off and on and off 5-6 times will eventually work but this is not even close to the quality of grinding I saw on much older models. They could have solved this problem with the simple addition of another impeller (cost about 78 cents) but as it is you will be cleaning out bits of food a lot.
UPDATE: They seem to have cut the warranty in half since mine was purchased just a few months ago. Not a good sign.
- Not as powerful as I expected. I had a 3/4 HP unit before and it was too powerful and noisy. This one is Quieter but not NEAR as powerful. I feel tha I don't even have a 1/3 HP unit. Won't even grind up chicken bones.
- We moved here in 1994 and I, while remodeling the kitchen, decided to replace the 23 year old GE Disposall with an InSinkErator. That was the first one. In 1998 that one stopped grinding - ran but really only swirled the garbage - barely. New one - and that one ran until the innards rusted out in 2005. Replaced it with the slightly more expensive stainless version. Last night, 27 June '08, the motor started to overheat(smelled the hot insulation), made some loud growls and when shut off, instantly stopped. It still works but barely. My guess is that a motor bearing (sleeve?) is failing. Now I have to buy a new one - but what do I buy? We seldom grind anything more difficult then veggie peels, with an (very) occasional chicken bone. My history with these, at least the lower end versions is that they are junk. Oh yes, I also replaced a 2 year old unit at my daughters house. Did I say that these are IMO, junk???? (Interesting - just out of warranty they "die" - planned obsolescence maybe)
- Badger 5 replaced two other brand disposals which were underpowered and didn't last long. The Badger 5 has lasted years, never clogs, and runs really cool. Whereas the previous ones overheated under a large load.
Insinkerator makes an add-on optional 3 way flexible output tube which connects over to the trap, which solves most installation problems, fits most of their models including this one, see it online for about $5 various places.
Satisfied!

5 comments about Milwaukee 48-08-0401 Quik-Lok Job Saw.
- I highly recommend this to anyone with a toolbox. Literally a 1001 uses and still counting....
- There I was, looking around on Amazon for nothing in particular, and up pops this little baby. My boss (construction and demo) has a similar thing, but it's old and rickety and has a manual mechanism for locking the blades.
This thing has a nice weight to it, the nifty Quick-Lok Milwaukee key, and works quite well for small cuts in tight places, or for finishing the Sawzall cut when you want to avoid slicing into the electricity.
The handle has the ability to screw in a broom handle, but I think that'd be kind of silly unless you loan the tool to your grandpa so he can cut that sprig off his apple tree in the back yard.
This is one of those tools where the boss quietly looks at it without saying anything, and you know he secretly wants to hold it and have one for himself.
- Get one. Wish I would have purchased it when I got my super sawzall. They both use the same blades, and they have specialty blades for the job saw. Check it out.
- This review is for anyone who wants to remove illegal signs placed high on poles:
This is the PERFECT tool to put on the end of your shark stick for removing illegal signs posted high up on poles. Add the Shur Line 06572L Easy Reach Extendable Pole and you're ready to go.
Shur Line 06572L Easy Reach Extendable Pole
It screws securely on the end of your telescoping pole. Give the tip a twist and insert the blade. Let go and the blade is secure. Give it another twist and the blade pops right out. The ultimate in convenience!
The blade that comes with it is all you need. It cuts right through corplast signs quickly and easily. (I would rather take a sign down by cutting rather than whacking anyway.)
If you like taking down signs, but always had trouble with the expo signs posted way up high (Gun Expo, Tattoo Expo, Reptile Expo, etc.), the extension pole and this knife is the ultimate combo for you! Those signs are mounted on wooden stakes and then are taped high up on poles. This cuts right through the tape and drops the signs in seconds! (Just be careful not to drop signs onto nearby cars, especially on windy days.)
Beautify your city. Help remove roadside street spam. This combo and a box cutter for low signs is all you need!
- Mine ended up in the garden shed. I use it with an aggressive blade for pruning tree branches.
