- I am a longtime subscriber to BH&G Wood magazine, so its no surprise that I appreciate the high quality plans contained in this book. The 25 projects are broken into four sections: Shelves, Stands and Frames; Occasional Tables; Accessories; and Racks.
Everything you need to know to build these projects is clearly explained and well illustrated. The only drawback for me as a woodworker is that several of these projects have a distictly dated feel to them, such as the Contemporary Coffee Table or the Waterfall End Table. These have the look and feel of contemporary furniture from the late 1970s / early 1980s.
There are, however, enough "classic" designs in this book that will not go out of style. Overall this is a high quality book that is still worth the asking price.
- Excellent book. A collection of articles from WOOD magajine. I built the "collector's showcase " from the plan in the book. Instructions were clear and conxise. Many of the ideas from these articles are adaptable to other projects as well.

2 comments about Building Garden Furniture: More Than 30 Beautiful Outdoor Projects.
- A beginner could enjoy the pictures but would not yet own the requisite tools for all of the projects. Completed projects rival area high-end specialty gardening stores. Contains materials lists, recommended woods and finishes, and easy-to-understand drawings. A pleasure to own.
- This book has the most attractive furniture I have seen in any how-to books. However, when I created a garden bench (the back slats of this particular bench are cut to create a diamond shape of open space between the upper two slats and lower two slats) I found errors in the layout, (drawings and measurements) of the center rail. Either the rail must be cut lower, or the mortises must be moved. My bench turned out beautifully despite the required modifications. I will make other furniture from patterns in this book, but I will definitely check the layout measurements before I mark and cut--rather than assume they are correct!

- Profusely illustrated with both color & B/W photographs Mr. Bird's book is a comprehensive study of this often overlooked genre. Definitely not just a coffee table edition, it's a scholarly work that people will find themselves turning to again & again. It not only attempts to cover every imaginable form but also provides ethnic & geographical origins relevant to the construction, design, use & decoration of the objects. I heartily reccomend "Canadian country furniture" to you based on the quality of the research & the plain manner in which it is presented. This will prove to be an invaluable reference to the decorator, dealer & collector. Most of all it will be enjoyed by all who enjoy reading about the development of a furniture form & it's historic context. If you've already read & enjoyed this book you'll also find "Painted Furniture of French Canada" by John A. Fleming & "Country Furniture & accessories from Quebec" by Warren L. Johansson worthy candidates to add your collection

- This book has good ideas for everyone. Some plans are whimsical others are more practical. Projects are sturdy and useful, Abby does a good job of making her project directions easy to follow. I was not frustrated when starting projects.

- After buying four Hans Wegner chairs, I wanted to learn more about these chairs and similar furniture. This book has been a wonderful, educational find. It is simply organized into sections with interesting introductions and has nice black-and-white photographs of the furniture. Each picture lists the name of the designer, his/her country or origin, and the year the piece was designed. This makes it easy to compare designers of the same period working in different countries, or comparing a designer's earlier and later pieces. We have enjoyed spending time becoming acquainted with the masters of mid-century furniture design.
One complaint I have about the book is that it lists the values of each piece of furniture. This is a somewhat fruitless endeavor since values are so relative--changing monthly or even daily, especially as you search in different parts of the country, or world. But, this book is a lot of fun for those who are interested in learning more about modern furniture. And, by the way, I did find my chairs in the book!

- I really like the easy to follow text. The illustrations are very clear and easy to understand. I really feel comfortable tackling a few of my household projects I have put off for months. Chair joints are loose, reupholstery on some of my furniture, and other basic household repairs. Glad to have this book in my library.
