5 comments about American Lighting - 1840-1940: 1840 1940.
- As an antique reproduction manufacturer, I find this book very limited and barely touching the rich depth of this area of American History. Ancestors populated the east coast since 1595 have first hand knowledge, written descriptions and actual lanterns and chandeliers throughout the periods. This book rarely indicates the history nor the flavor and texture of the various periods American Lighting has past though. The pictures are nice.
- I've been collecting reverse painted lamps for ten years and I found Ms. Maril's book very helpful in providing information about the various manufacturers who made these lamps at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century. Unlike a lot of picture books on antiques, Maril explains her subject and provides an overview of lighting technology and styles.
- Few books are available which cover the subject of late 19th and early 20th century lighting. I found this book to be rich with information and very useful in identifying some of the pieces I have collected over the years. Other than, "Antique Lamp Buyer's Guide", also by Ms. Maril, there is little reference material for collectors so this is definitely a book worth owning.
- I really like this book as a general reference. Great visuals and wonderful aesthetic. Great definition of "Fluid Lamps". Using color photographs and rare catalog material, this book concentrates on domestic lighting, making this an important book for home restorers and decorators seeking to capture an authentic look in their homes. The informative text and history of the American lighting industry makes it a welcome, valuable addition to the libraries of historians, collectors, and others interested in the development of American design and technology. Advanced researchers may express disappointed but for a general overview you'll want it for your library. It has a welcomed place on my shelf.
- Filled with beautiful photographs and catalogue pictures, this lovely hardback book is packed with useful information about antique lighting in the United States. Focusing on lighting for domestic household use, Ms. Maril skillfully explains how the evolution in technology of producing light, influenced the development of lighting styles.
Although the current price guide should be updated and the quality of some of the catalogue reproduction could be improved, this is the best reference book available on the sibject. I highly recommend purchasing this book for your library.

2 comments about Introduction to Semiconductor Manufacturing Technology.
- I started a job as a technical writer at a semiconductor company in April, 2002. A couple weeks later, I bought this book because I didn't totally understand what the industry was all about. It has really taught me everything I needed to know about the semiconductor industry, and the role my company's products play in it.
The reason I give it 4 stars is because at one (early) point the book says "this is the hardest math in this book," which just isn't true. However, anyone who passed high school algebra 2 will be able to do the rest of the math in the book, or you can skip it if you're not looking for a math/science lesson. If you are learning about semiconductors for a job, or you are starting an academic program in semiconductor engineering, this is a terrific book. I don't know if experienced engineers will find it useful, as I'm not an experienced engineer. Every new tech writer to come into the company has also borrowed this book during the first couple of weeks, just to help them get into the swing of things.
- This is a good entry-level book written in an easy tone, the author is currently giving lecture in China.
The whole book uses less than ten equations, however, this is the point that anyone with any background can read through this book without difficulties.

2 comments about Residential Wiring to the 1996 NEC.
- Wiring a house involves two basic tasks; designing the system, and then doing the work. Most electrical books concentrate on teaching you how to do the work, and ignore the overall design, or layout of the electrical system. If you're re-wiring a house, or starting from scratch, you need this book. This book references the National Electric Code extensively, so you know you're following the latest approved practices.
- All the good books on home wiring do a good job of covering the basic, functional end of wiring; how to connect wires, wiring three way switches, etc. What makes this book stand out is that it helps you design an electrical system for a residential home. This is valuable to those who might be planning on building their own home, or someone who is doing a total overhaul of an older home's electrical service (replacing fuses with breakers, etc.). There are many references to the National Elecric Code.

5 comments about Practical Electrical Wiring: Residential, Farm, Commercial & Industrial: Based on the 2002 National Electrical Code.
- I bought this book while in Iraq to study before I get out of the army and try to get under an apprenticeship. This book has helped me learn a LOT about the trade of inside wireman and the basic fundamentals of electricity from fomulas to installation of panel boxes to wiring an entire house and to which lamps will give the best lighting effect in a room. I am really looking forward to learning more about the trade. So far I have read it once and am already half way thru for my second time around. I highly recommend this book however, what I have learned about electrical is only from this book so I do not have a comparison.
- Some very good information , but very vague on a lot of subjects. It would be nice to have more pictures and details of subject matter I have yet to find a really good electrical book other that the NEC CODE BOOK
- If your looking to get into the Electrician field or just need a steady reference guide, then this is the book for you. Residential, Commercial, Industrial...you name it. I've been a certified Electrician for 17 years and I still use this book as a quick reference manual to this day. Not overly complex but still gets down to the nitty gritty in details.
Definitely a must buy if you're interested in pursuing a career in this trade.
- Great condition as I expected based on the description prior to purchase. I will definitely recommend to others.
- These is a lot of information in this book but if you are trying to do your own electical, it doesn't help.
This book is great if you are studying to be an electrician. It gives you a lot of background material. But for the home project, go to HomeDepot and and get an electrians guide.
