1. This feng shui book is very good for the beginner.
   The author is big on having your back protected and feeling protected in general.
   It makes me want to live in a castle on the high ground with a mountain to my back, special trees on each side, surrounded by a moat, with a full view of the village below.
   It must be this "protected" feeling that allows the rooms to feel cozy and secure.
   The best part of this book is the basic room set up for each room.
   Also worth checking out is "Feng Shui In A Weekend". That's a great book!

1. I just finished flipping through this book at a bookstore and liked everything I saw. There were several great ideas that you could flat out copy for yourself, or at least draw some good inspiration from. You should be an artist or artist at heart to make this book work for you if you plan to make some designs yourself. I gave it 4 stars out of 5 because I thought they could have gone into a bit more detail for each design idea. This book reminds me of Candice Olsons 'Divine Design' show on HGTV. Again, great ideas.. its just up to you to put it to use!

1. I first saw this book in Restoration Hardware, where I was working at the time. It was an *immediate* hit with the style conscious staff. One woman got a dreamy look on her face as she read it "I could live in any of these" and I know exactly what she meant. It is of particular interest to those in Northern California as many of the resources listed in the back are local to us. A charming and keepable book.

1. This is an excellent book for the professional designer or decorator looking for a comprehensive catalog of "out of the ordinary" finishes. The finishes reviewed are generally european in heritage, although many were imported to the US during the last 2 centuries. This is not a handbook for the weekend "do-it-yourself" decorator/painter as the finishes illustrated require multiple steps and practice to attain the desired look. The book is an excellent resource when discussing finishes and 'looks'with a professional painter/finisher. Additionally, the photographs are of a fine enough quality to help the reader understand the relationship of the color, technique and texture to the surrounding room. This should help the reader to visually conceive the design before the project execution and thereby minimize 'mistakes'. Enjoy!



2. I may be a weekend do-it-yourselfer, but, I love looking through this book for period ideas for my 200+ year old Georgian home.

   The photography is beautiful and it's full of ideas and the history of the colors and methods used is fascinating.




3. I found the book very well done. There are many techniques that can be used to decorate furnitures and walls and all of them are very well explained. I'll soon try to embellish my house!

1. This was just too basic for me to find it very useful. Almost all of the illustrations are cartoon-like and simple. The projects are simple, and there's nothing in it to give you ideas about trim unless you haven't thought about it at all prior to reading this. If you're just starting to think about doing some trim work around your house, you might find this useful, but otherwise look for something more advanced.
