3 comments about Color Healing Home: Improve Your Well-Being and Your Home Using Color Therapy.
- This is one of my all-time favorite books ... and I have a HUGE collection of books on color and decorating. Whenever I look through these pages, I want to do my rooms in every color I see, loving each page more than the next. If you ask me which was my favorite color, I will say, "All of them!" But then, my passion for color is the reason I bought this book in the first place. As soon as I opened it, I had to have it.
The book is broken down according to the colors of the spectrum and the color therapy use of each color (i.e., there are sections for "energizing," "uplifting," "balancing," "refreshing," "calming," "meditative," "romantic," and "grounded"). Each individual color has two or three photos. But this book doesn't just separate the colors as simply as red, orange, yellow, etc. It elaborates by breaking each color down into numerous shades and tones of that color. For the violet part of the spectrum alone -- which is classified as "meditative" in terms of color therapy purposes -- there are pages for the shades "very violet," "deep purple," "mood indigo," "fresh lavender," "lilac time," and "purple haze." Each has several photos. Throughout the book, there are pages (and photos) for such luscious colors as "sunflower," "aquamarine," "fruit pastels," "sugar candy" ... and there are natural/neutral colors represented as well. Just looking through this book cheers me up and inspires me. It is intelligently written as well. I highly recommend Color Healing Home to anyone who would like to bring more color and joy into their life.
- I really like this book. The photos are beautiful. The author discusses what effect different colors have on your mood, i.e. paint your bedroom deep blue for restful sleep, red can cause exhaustion if it's not used sparingly, magenta-pink encourages introspection, etc. This book gives you lots of interesting ideas for adding color to your home, beyond just slapping paint on a wall.
- Tangerine Orange. Shocking Pink. Azure Blue. These are just a few of the colors offered in Color Healing Home. For those of you who love modern interior design but would like something other than beige and variations on white, then this is THE book for you. The book is divided by color and each color is showcased in beautiful modern rooms. Worth its weight in gold!! A+++++++++

3 comments about Design With Japanese Obi.
- it's a great book to lead you to use obi as part of the decoration in your home. it gives you alot of ideas how to put and what you can do with obi before you display them in your home. also, it tells the different kinds of obi in design and material it is made from. actually, it gives you extra knowledge of other japanese traditional accessories; as the pictures in this book shows you how the obi goes together very well with basic things every houses have. great book.
- I happened to pick this book up at a bookstore in Japan and suddenly I realized that you can do more with an obi than wear it with a kimono. As a result, everyone in my family is getting souvenir obis, and I'm excited to start using the ideas presented in the book.
Some of the ideas made me nervous--using an obi as a table runner would eventually lead to stains--but this book opened up a whole new world to me that I hadn't even considered. For that, I'm thankful.
- It wasn't what i was expecting, but it is a very interesting book.

5 comments about India Style.
- India Style is a timely and refreshing look at one of the oldest civilizations in the world. India 'style' relfects the complexity and depth found in Indian cooking. Similar to how spices are blended and prepared, the country's style is a vibrant blending of color, texture, culture, religion and history. India style has been developing for thousands of years. There is something within our soul that responds and reaches out to this richness.
- Monisha did a great job in writing this book. It reflects her good taste in decorating homes in Indian style. Eventhough it is nice to see some of the maharaja styles decor she definitely includes examples of decor of regular households and contemporary looks that could definitely be applied.
Most of the decorating items included in this book could be found in Indian arts and craft stores. The colors are so vibrant and enticing in each and every photograph. I read this book so many times, actually it is a very nice relaxing reading companion. I usually leave it on our coffee table when we have get togethers with our friends. It is a good conversational piece and everyone wants to borrow this book. Nicely done!

- When asked to describe Indian style in one word, most people would say "colorful". That is indeed true. Indian style is rich in color, which is liberally used by everywhere- from palaces of erstwhile maharajas to homes in rural and urban parts of contemporary India. What fascinates most westerners is the ability of Indian interior decorations to assimilate mind-boggling number of styles from different cultures and even different eras. The whole design flows with ease- different elements blending together to enhance the look rather than impart incongruity.
This book presents exactly these aspects and is meant to inspire the reader. As each part of the home is visited, different styles are explored, explained and in some cases, re-interpreted for contemporary living. Some of these are high-end and would not be practically possible to duplicate. But most can easily be adapted in the Western settings to infuse them with an ethnic flair or just make them outright Indian. The beautiful color pictures are sure to fire your imagination. The types of accessories shown are commonplace in India and at most Indian art stores in other countries. You may not find the exact duplicates but you are bound to find something close. Recipedelights.com recommends this book and feels that it will start off the reader in the right direction. Everything else is limited only by the reader's imagination.
- I have never been able to travel much but have always liked learning about other cultures. This book provides a look into another life style in an area that is basic to the understanding of all cultures.

5 comments about East West Style: A Design Guide for Blending Eastern and Western Elements at Home.
- I am so pleased with this purchase. I was a little skeptical initially because the front picture wasn't to my taste, but the inside photos show diverse ways in which to incorporate eastern elements into a liveable design scheme. Another thing that I appreciate about this specialized design books is that I learned general principles of design from the author. The photos are beautiful, the rooms are beautiful, and the suggestions are thoughtful and fairly easy to implement without going crazy overboard on money. I love it! Can't wait to start buying seriously!
- This is a wonderful book for anyone wanting to elements of Asian design, which are so popular today, to their home. With so much to choose from you can't help but be inspired. Sections focus on various principles including simplicity, order, proportion, harmony, balance, color and texture. Examples in photos are accompanied by descriptive text.
Since I am a crafter I am always on the lookout for the things I can make for myself and I saw many here that I could. My favorite idea is a Japanese-style dining table that is sunken into the ground. It looks so elegant and I am dreaming of having one someday. They also use lots of screens, which are one of my favorite elements with their beauty and versatility. I though an attic room with a semi-hidden bed was a great idea as well. I appreciate the practical approach here of incorporating authentic Asian design into existing Western homes of various types. If you are looking for some fresh ideas for your home and want a simple, yet elegant style this book will give you some great ideas.
- If you think that Eastern style is all about Japanese style and minimalism then this is the book for you. But if you think Asia includes India, Thailand, Burma, Bali, Korea etc, you will find this book and its aesthetic a huge disappointment. I did. Stick with Kelly Hoppen.
- The five main chapters of this book are "Simplicity and Order", "Proportion and Form", "Harmony and Balance", "Color and Texture", and "Eastern Treasures". The book purports to show you those "eastern" elements can be incorporated into western rooms. Well obviously the concepts of color and texture aren't unique to the east so you might expect a length discussion about how eastern notions of color and texture differ from western notions and how the two can blend together to create a harmonious and beautiful room. Instead, the two pages of text in this chapter merely say, "Ancient Eastern beliefs include much color symbolism that relates to the emotional responses the colors evoke" and "The Eastern affinity for natural fibers and materials introduces a broad range of textures". Gee, thanks.
The other problem is the poor dilenation of topics. If you flip to a random picture in the book you'll have a hard time whether they are trying to tell you something about texture or proportion. Certainly, in a complete room all of the factors need to balance each other out, but without focusing on each one individually it is harder to grasp its importance. There are a few hundred photos of designs that look like they would, for the most part, require expensive modifications (for instance, the kitchen with contrasting textures made of three separate materials or the dining room with the floor treatment). As another reviewer pointed out, virtually all of the photographs reflect a Japanese and (to a much lesser extent) Chinese aesthetic.
- Interior design is very subjective to one's taste.
I was looking for a book that had plenty of examples of living rooms, bathrooms, and bedroom that had fused east and west elements. Some other books I have looked at concentrated more on phyical eastern objects and pieces. This book gives a very good introduction on paring American and European style furniture with Asian style furniture. There are plently of pictures and the writing is simple and easy to understand. One picture has a Le Corbusier Chaise Lounge ( LC 4) in the bedroom adjacent to a crocodile shaped teak bench in front of a bed. Most traditional modernists wouldn't have thought of such a pairing. Other photos include a compact Eames Sofa in asian style living room. There lots of screens ,bamboo and fabrics examples in the photos as well. This book will be a great coffee table book as well. I've had lots of people pick it up when they come over. The bottom line is that once you read and look at the pictures many times, you develop your own sense of style. This practice determines which style works for you. This book will give you focus on your objective to combine the two elements in your home. Perhaps one day, your living room, bathroom or bedroom will be featured on Metropolitan Home because of this book.

Nearly all the articles presented are quite economical, going for $25 to $75 or so. An excellent sourcebook, Cabin Style is enjoyable simply to page through for inspiration.
- I have several books on rustic decorating and that type of thing. This book is one of my favorites. It's packed full of information, and acknowledges that the average person isn't going to be able to go out and furnish an entire house full of Bellinger paintings and antique Molesworth furniture. You will get a lot of ideas and have fun reading this book. But watch out...apparently this book is tasty for dogs, as my Bernese Mountain Dog loved it also! :-)
