- This book is an excellent resource for timberframe builders, designers, or enthousiasts. It is very technical though, and many of the terms are un-definined in the glossary. The illustrations are superb. It has multiple indexes on specific joints. One index, for example, has an illustrated list of every single scarf joint immaginable, with a description of the joint's history and how well it functions. I love this book. Every architect and timberframer should own this book! It is very inspiring.

4 comments about Electrical Estimating Methods (Means Electrical Estimating).
- This is definitly a must have book for a begining or a seasoned estimator.
- The printing is soooo poor that it strained the eyes.I rang the printers in America and was treated like some rubbish. No wonder people hate americans. The people from RSMeans Publishers Reed Construction data Tel 781 422 5000 were so horrible and didnt have any sense of talking to a customer. i was disgusted and ashmed of even ringing the americans to complain about the typeset which is very very light. and very difficult for the eyes. I paid $55 plus 10 postage i am shocked completely. And after talking to the these people i will make sure that i will never travel to the USA and stay away from everything American. especially books.
many thanks

- The book was recieved VERY promptly, and just in time for us to study up for our renewal certification. Thank you!
- My aunt who is a Master Electrician recommended this book to us since we had recently started our own electrical business. It is very informative and comes in handy when pricing larger jobs.

5 comments about Modern Carpentry: Building Construction Details in Easy-To-Understand Form.
- As a student in carpentry class, I find this book simple, helpful and detailed. But, our class has found ourselves going to other book sources to answer specific carpentry questions. Needed information on particular subjects is either too vague or non-existent, as this book leaves out some details. Overall, this is a good foundational reference as a supplement to other sources.
- This is the best carpentry and overall construction book I've ever read. This should be at the center of all of your construction books. I do construction in the Navy and we have some great books to learn from but this gives book gives you more info on standard construction practices, load sizes for lumber and such detailed information with pictures that can't be beat. I've owned an older edition and that helped me out alot, but this book is truly modern and up to date with construction practices going on right now. This is a must have and you won't go wrong.
- This version (Workbook) of Modern Carpentry is a workbook. Its questions that you must fill in the blank (answer). It is NOT a book but more of a 'test' (I'm assuming) of the material in Modern Carpentry.
- Full of information on every aspect of the carpentry field. In depth and up to date.
- I am a builder / carpenter that collects carpentry books for ideas and for the purpose of tryinng to stay current with new techniques. I purchased this book used from an Amazon reseller, and upon receiving it am dissapointed. The book is very out of date and due to its age, is not comparable to newer books in terms of illustrations. I have several books that are significantly better for carpentry / framing. I would not recommend this book.

5 comments about Conscious Style Home: Eco-Friendly Living for the 21st Century.
- This book is full of useful tips on how to incorporate this lifestyle into your own home. Mr. Seo offers suggestions and tips that allow someone to bring eco-living into their life on a small scale or a larger scale depending on your desire. I tried out some of the suggestions with my family and they loved it!! It is a great start to turning my home into a stylish eco environment - on a budget no less! Thanks for the great ideas!
- Danny Seo has the rare gift of making daunting tasks seem possible, even easy. This book has so many idea gems that have changed my life - inspiring me to make both small and major changes in how I interact with the environment and my immediate surroundings. I eagerly await his next book as I'm due for more inspiration.
- Just as one of the implicit themes in this book is keeping everything well balanced, the book too, is well balanced. Mr. Seo manages to brew a richly roasted blend of humor, sensible ideas, updated recycling facts and most importantly, readability. As a person who has long struggled with ADD, a book that can keep my attention is a rare find. I was also surprised to discover that many things I was taught about recycling and the environment are simply no longer true. It certainly opened my eyes more and taught this old monkey some new tricks.
- First of all Seo is hilarious. I love the tongue in cheek approach saving the ecosystem and looking great while doing it.
On a serious note: This is a great book just on the level of helping you get organized about a renovation, clean-up or decoration project. It is full of great and easy ideas, presented in an entertaining way and well-organized. I am definitely not a hardcore eco-activist, but that's great thing about the book. Danny's suggestions are about doing things you were already going to do, but doing them right.
- With soaring gas prices and heating costs, I wanted to find ways I can make my home more efficient and SAVE money, too. This book has lots of ideas and I am recommending it. It is useful and informative and easy to understand.

2 comments about Audel Practical Electricity.
- i'm a few pages into the 3rd chapter and i'm already searching for another book on basic electricity. there are many instances in which this book is unclear, as if the author had a lapse where he forgot he was writing for an audience who knows nothing about the principles of electromagnetism, and other instances where he made simple mistakes. one that comes readily to mind is on page 37, in discussing how to convert cross-sectional areas from square-mils to circular-mils and vice-versa, the following equations are given: Sq.Mils = Circ.Mils x 0.7854 and Circ.Mils = Sq.Mils x 1.273. if you simply picture a circle fitting tightly inside a square (the length of any side of the square being equal to the diameter of the circle) you can see that the square has a greater area. just by *looking* at them, you can tell the equations are wrong.
there are many other mistakes just like this: mis-labeled diagrams, insufficient explanations, etc. and as i said, i'm only into the third chapter. i would not recommend this book.
- I read this book with my wife...TWICE. All I can say is, WOW, Terrific! We laughed, we cried, then we laughed again. Then together, with the expert guidance of this fabulous author, we built a 16-slice stainless steel toaster, a George Foreman grill for each of the volunteers in our local fire department, a Van der Graaf generator, and 24-meter tall horizontal-axis wind turbine - all from what we learned in just this one fabulous book!! Up until then, my wife had trouble just charging up our electric toothbrush every year...Ha ha ha..!
Terrrrrific!! But now, because of the author, we're toasting muffins, cooking bacon, and laughing out loud as the kids play with their Van der Graff generator - and it's all with our own FREE electricity created from a giant wind turbine of our own design! Terrrrrific!!
We learned so much from reading this book. Why do the stars only go to five? This book deserves eleven!! No, make that eleven-and-a-half!! LOL! The author really did his homework on this one. The smell of bacon never mad me laugh - UNTIL NOW THAT IS! Now honey, WHERE'S MY BOOK?!!! LOL! LOL!! Terriffic! Twelve stars!!
I'm serious, this is a really good book. Our next project is a 600 kilowatt solar updraft tower with both dynamic and low-temp helical braking. Shouldn't take more than a week or two with this book. Take care. ~DH

1 comments about Plaster and Drywall Systems Manual.
- This book has been the long time go-by for anyone involved in plaster and plastering. However, it is long overdue for an update as codes and materials have changed dramatically since 1988.
While the basic aspects of plastering remain unchanged, it's impossible to trust the material that's time sensitive.

1 comments about DeWALT HVAC Estimating Professional Reference (Dewalt Trade Reference Series).
- I like Dewalt Estimating series because they are very practical information. This HVAC book is no exception. Stuff we all do every day: marketing yourself to GC, get on the bidder list, read blueprints, quantity take-off, vendor pricing, write quote letters, contract negotiation, job costing... You name it. But the book is good because it presents all this information upfront, without big talks. Convenient size makes it easy to carry and look up info. Give it 5 out of 5, 10 out of 10.

2 comments about Houses: The Illustrated Guide to Construction, Design and Systems.
- Excellent book for someone interested in any field related to real estate, architecture or construction. Very, very helpful in becoming familiar with zoning, land and construction of different types of homes. Lots of pictures and diagrams. Not just a bunch of reading.
- Although this book covers almost all the subjects related to house design & construction, it seems to need more rework especially on the last sections (Chapter 8 and ahead). For instance in Chap. 10 (pages 305-315), it hardly describes the type of doors and windows, without providing any further information about recommended sizes and thickneses.
