  1. I purchased this set a little over a year ago. It has been a good set and displays HD content well. It only had 1 HDMI port but it can be overcome with a splitter. The colors are vivid but the black areas could be better. But it's not a deal breaker.
About a month ago it wouldn't turn on. I called Olevia customer service and they agreed to repair it for free even though it was 2 months out of warranty. They even paid for shipping. I've read reviews about people who have had bad experiences with Syntax Brillian/Olevia. But they have been more than accommodating to me.
I would recommend this Tv even though the power board failed just after a year. But since it was repaired for free i can't complain too much. Hope this helps.

  2. We purchased a refurbished tv (not through Amazon) and also bought a 1 year extended warranty. Within 2 months a loud crackling noise began coming out of the speakers. After speaking to the customer service rep, they suggested using a surge protector (the electricity may be the cause of the noises). After 2 more months (the original 90 day refurbished warranty had expired), we called the extended warranty company. They do not have technicians who can service Olevia TV's. So we ended up getting a check for the purchase price to buy a different tv or to get service on our own. What a joke! Don't buy refurbished! Not to mention that very few universal remotes work with Olevia tv's.

  1. I have had this television for about 3 months. It used mainly for watching movies but the kids like watching cartoons on it also and even the regular cable doesn't look that bad. I own a Toshiba HD A-30 HD DVD player that is capable of sending a 1080p/24 signal which this tv is capable of displaying. The picture is perfect. I have not needed to tweak any of the settings for colors. The only settings I change are on my HD player depending on if the movie is HD or standard DVD. The viewing angle is fine. Some people freak out cause you can't see the picture if you are sitting at a 179 degree angle from the tv, but who does that? That spec is useless to use to determine how good a tv is if you are not realistically going to be viewing from that angle. All in all it is a great tv for the price. The other Bravia series which are $1000 more for the same size are not worth it in my opinion.

  2. I have had this TV for a week and I absolutely love it!! The picture is outstanding and the PS3 games are unreal! There is absolutely nothing wrong with this TV. Sony has quit making rear projection TV's as of February to focus on pure LCD, so get one while you can!

  3. My old 27" TV finally gave out after 14 years. I started looking at the new widescreen sets and decided on a 42-50" screen size. I had to learn about 720,1080, HD, LCD, DLP, Plasma, rear projection. I looked at TV's for 2 months and decided on the 46" Sony rear projection. I wanted to buy online but most online retailers had 10% of their customers unhappy with their purchase. I decided to buy from Amazon as I had a couple transactions from them I was unhappy about and they made it right with me. Their price was also low on this TV. So I ordered the TV and it was delivered by a local air freight company in 1 week. I am happy about the quick delivery and also the TV is AWSUM! For the money I spent on this 46" Sony I would of only got a 40" plasma set. The plasma sets may have a slightly better picture but not much. This Sony has great audio also. I would recommend this TV and also Amazon for their customer service.

  4. Sony is closing out their line of LCD rear projection TVs to focus on Plasma screens. They are offering great deals on their KDF Bravia line. I bought mine through Amazon with free shipping. The TV itself has an excellent picture and good sound quality. Unless you really need a thin TV to mount on the wall, this HDTV is an outstanding bargain. Where else would you get Sony quality, a 46 inch screen, the Bravia engine, and 1080p resolution at a price like this?

  5. I first found this TV at Fry's electronics and immediately was blown away from the sleek design, picture and price. At that point in time it was $1200 but further research lead to finding it on here for under $1100 and even further research found if I went straight to ABT's site (the sell of the TV) the TV was $50 cheaper. I searched flat panels, DLP's, Plasma's, and this TV came to be the best bang for the buck period.

I say unless you are wanting a TV you can mount on the wall, you won't be disappointed with this thing. The viewing angle is the best I've seen for a projection TV. It gets a little darker when viewing it from the side, but it never seems to loose a lot of brightness at any angle. The TV is every bit as slim if not slimmer than Samsung's Ultra Slim DLP series. The Picture quality is hands down top notch and theres still a lot of tweaking that I need to do and I can achieve even a better picture. I've heard about delays in gaming that make gaming systems unplayable on certain TV's, but this one is not one of those TV's. Right now all I have is a Wii hooked up to it (hopefully a PS3 too within a month or so) and it looks and plays awesome. Hooked up my old HTPC to it and the picture is as clear as a monitor. Setup was very easy, as the TV uses the XMB (Xross media bar) and its designed for easy setup and instant fun straight out of the box. Don't have money for a home theater System yet? Well neither did I, and I can honestly say the speakers on this TV are top notch and unbelievable. Definitely the best set of TV speakers I've ever heard!

If there are any cons I can only think of one and thats that since its a rear projection TV (and not LED based) it uses a projection lamp thats rated for 8000 hours. Now I did the math and that basically means your lamp will most likely last 3-4 years for an average person, or 333 days straight if you just leave it on all the time, but eventually your still going to have to deal with it and its an average of $200 for another lamp. I knew that before I bought the TV so I guess in that aspect its not a con.

  1. Only reason I purchased this TV was because it was fairly inexpensive. I put it downstairs for the kids to use. Of course the TV is not as good as a plasma since you need to be directly in from of the DLP projections, but for the kids it is good.

Stick with the LCD and plasma Tv's if you want a family TV.

  2. This is a great HDTV for the price. Picture quality is outstanding. The only drawback is the sound quality is average and the remote control is poorly designed. I tried to have my Direct TV remote programmed but it was not compatible with this model.

  3. Be prepared to pay the "DLP Tax" annually. That is one lamp each year. Toshiba knows that these lamps will not run 6-8000 Hrs. 2000-3000 is normal. I have spoken to 3 different Toshiba Authorized repairs centers and hey all verify that a year is the average lifespan of these lamps.

  4. I have a Toshiba 42HM66 Model # TV. We like the picture quality of the television but the sound is lacking - can't increase the way you want. The one major problem is we have had it 13 months now - and have to change the DLP Lamp - which costs over $300. This television we figure has about 2800 hours of usage on it. These lamps are advertised usage over 3000 hours - that's so false!!! I am so upset and know that i have to purchase a new lamp every year - i think not - I think i am going to sell this television and buy a SONY!!!! oh yeah - the customer support ith toshiba was no help either - good luck!

  5. I wish I knew before I bought this TV for my dad. I think I paid $799 for it just 15 months ago and the lamp has to be replaced. Until this point I was happy with Toshiba products(I have a 42" LCD and two HD-DVD players) but now...How can you justify a TV that costs $1000 retail having to have a $200 part every year? Of course the warranty expired 3 months ago. An extended warranty may have covered the new bulb but you have to make sure, for $50 bucks or so the 2 year warranty would cover 2 bulbs at this rate and save about $400.

  1. I purchased a Westinghouse TV and within 4 months the TV was broken. At that point I called customer support and they were NOT willing to stand behind thier product. I asked if they found it reasonable for a TV go out in 4 months, all they said was that they could not help me.

  2. Within the first week of receiving the product, the left side of the screen created a black shadow. Upon calling customer support, their response was to reset the default settings. Doing so did not fix the problem. If I turn the TV set off for a few minutes and then turn it on again, the picture will display as expected. The screen continues to create a black shadow at unsuspecting intervals. I have not received satisfactory support from customer service. I feel the TV should be replaced with a new one.

  3. I own a Westinghouse Digital Photo Frame (DPF-0801). It stopped working (6/30/08)outside of the warranty period. Westinghouse doesn't provide a service facility for that product nor could they advise me who could repair the product at my expense. And oh yes, they are still selling Digital Photo Frames.

If you relying on the Westinghouse "name", beware I did unfortunately.

  4. I am surprised by the reviews of others as their reviews aren't about this particular TV, but about a Digital Picture frame and one even left negative reviews about other TVs he didnt even own. I have this TV and I think it is a very well made TV. Don't pay more than you have to for a TV. All these manufacturers buy their LCDs from the same place. So all you are doing is paying for the marketing. I work in the Computer hardware industry and most, if not all companies buy OEM to cut costs. Don't think because you bought a Samsung or Sony that it is any better than the others.

  5. I bought this TV a week ago. I like the TV but it is a little buggy. One reviewer said that it didn't remember things from the remote well. I thought that was a jest but I've had the same experience. You enter stuff on the remote but it's different when you go back sometimes. Weird. It has easy to use menus however and it will eventually remember the settings correctly if you put them in a time or two. Maybe I did something wrong, I'm not really sure. It could be that you have to do it a certain way for it to remember the setting.

My biggest two problems so far with the TV are the service port will not load updated firmware and the default picture quality. Westinghouse is working on the issue with the service port. They've called me several times now. Since I don't have a big problem with anything hardware related I'm not all that concerned about that one.

The second annoyance is the default picture setting SUCK. It's a monitor though in essence with a tuner and as such it can be adjusted to a perfect picture unless something is really wrong. I own a spider used to calibrate monitors but so far I have not used it. I just used someone elses settings from a forum and the picture is VERY nice after making the changes. It seems stupid to me Westinghouse would ship it with uncalibrated settings as the "default".

The picture is beautiful though. It makes non HD DVD's look poor quality after watching HD for a while. It reminds me of going back to VHS at times. It really shines on good HD signals.

  1. This is a product I would highly recommend. I did not get the 1080p version of this TV because I have read that once you get over 36" you cannot tell the difference between having 720 and 1080. In any event from the standpoint of price I am very happy. From the standpoint of space I am very happy as this TV is only about 12" thick and is light (60lbs). It is very easy to set up, the remote is easy to use (although I am transitioning over to a harmony remote) and all of the functions are easy to acess.

  2. I bought mine for $899 during the pre-Christmas sales at Best Buy - can't beat that price. The TV takes a little longer to start up (15-20 sec) than I would like, but once it's going, it has a beautiful picture. Have my Toshiba HD-DVD, HD cable, and my Xbox360 hooked up to it, and the picture quality is AMAZING. It's in a room with windows to the left of the TV, but the picture still looks vibrant and there is little to no reflection off the screen. You would do well to buy a calibration DVD to work on the contrast, brightness, etc., but overall, it's a great piece of electronics for a great price. Until cable/satellite starts broadcasting in 1080p, there is little incentive to upgrade. If you don't need to hang it on a wall, this TV is the way to go.

  3. I bought the TV about 7 months ago as I was moving into a dorm for college and I needed a new TV. While it is way bigger than I need for a dorm room I figued why not spend the extra money for a bigger TV then spend 150-300 on a little 20inch when I'd be buying a larger TV later when I live in an apartment. At the time this was around $875 and was the best deal out there.

I was wary at first as there are many complants with these kind of systems. However, I have never had a problem with unit. I think it has been more than I expected. While it is a 720 and not 1080 I don't think there is much difference. While I am in a dorm I don't have a normal array of HD channels, but I do get your basic CBS/NBC channels in HD and they look completely crystal clear. I can't make a noticable difference from the 720 to 1080. The only time you can really tell the difference is if your in a store and a 720 is next to a 1080. Since it is a rear projection it is lamp lit and other complained of the lamp light flowing out from the vents in the back. I don't really notice this, even in with all the lights off. If you have it directing against a wall then you can see it, but it's not enough to be bothersome and if you wish can be easily blocked. Only con is the warm up and warm down as it is a bulb light, but it only takes a few seconds. I wouldn't turn it off and on rapidly or leave it on constantly as the bulb will burn out faster.

  4. I own a Samsung 50 inch DLP. It was beautiful until I hooked my XBox up to it and almost the day after the warrenty was up, it broke. After googleing the "shut-off" problem, I found out it is a common issue with ALL Samsung DLPs; which sometimes they can't fix!!! I have no extended warrenty and am screwed.
Google samsung DLP problems before buying.

  5. After owning 1 1/2 years, it started turning itself off (not coming back on). Bought the extended warranty, so I should be good. But it is a hassle to give up the TV to a repair shop for over a week when the TV is practically new. It was a bit disheartening to have to send a $2000 TV to the repair shop in less than 2 years. I won't buy this kind of TV again.

  1. I picked up this monitor about 8 months ago, which has given me plenty of time to play with, and I have to say that for the price, you just can not go wrong with this monitor. Plenty of inputs (to one of the previous reviewers - there are 2 component inputs,) excellent picture quality, and fairly easy to adjust for best picture. 2 suggestions for previous reviewers and anyone who buys this monitor. For good black levels (and better picture in general) in a darkened room, get a light to place behind the monitor and illuminate the wall behind it - this helps your eye perceive the distance between the screen and the wall, making black and color look better and reducing eye strain. This should be done for all large screens in dark rooms, not just this one. Also, a previous reviewer said there was no digital audio on the HDMI - the HDMI cable carries audio (and very well, thank you) and most new home-theater boxes have an HDMI input and output so you can go from cable box to audio box, then from audio box to monitor. All in all, a great monitor.

  2. I bought this tv at best buy about a month ago for $800 it is on clearance. I went into the store planning on purchasing a panasonic 42 plasma and saw this model sitting on the shelf. I saved $400 picking this up. Looks awesome in my living room. excellent quality picture and sound. my friends love coming over to watch sports.

  3. I had no intention of buying an HD set until my trusty 32" Philips tube died on me at the beginning of the year. I didn't want to spend a lot, and this set was the best deal I could find.

I've had a 19" Westinghouse LCD monitor for my PC for almost 2 years and I've loved it, so I looked into what they had to offer for HDTVs/monitors. I compared this with big name brand plasmas and I have to say the picture on this set is better in some ways than most I've seen. While dark grays and blacks come through a little grainy (this is with the LCD technology, not this particular set) bright colors come through phenomenally. The first movie I played on it was SW Episode III, just to watch the intro space battle scene. I was blown away. The level of detail, the colors, the resolution, fast motion, everything was great.

I also wanted to see what my DVD options were. I didn't want to get Blue Ray b/c it's so expensive, and even with HD DVD, I'd have to replace my library with new discs which would cost a fortune. So I got a DVD upconverter. I think I spent 70.00 on the player and 20.00 on an HDMI cable (upconverting only works with HDMI.) It takes my boring old standard def DVDs and makes it look close enough to HD without really being able to tell the difference, making this set just that much better.

So for the price, for the array of inputs and for the great picture, this is a good purchase. If you want to spend a little more, there's a 1080p version of this set, though unless you're getting Blue Ray DVD, there's no rush to have 1080p. And if you want to spend a lot of money, go with DLP and steer clear of plasma.

Good job Westinghouse! You now have a loyal customer.

  4. Monitor worked well for the first 9 months I had it then a couple of power issues that were more annoying than anything. At about 15 months the screen went blank and no longer displayed anything, a few calls to Westinghouse and they determined after their "rock solid" 1 year warranty it becomes a giant paper weight. A couple authorized repiar shops won't even look at it as parts are hard to get from Westinghouse. I would never buy from Westinghouse again without an extended warranty!

  5. I've had one of these for almost 3 years. This unit has great color, The Hi Def picture is as good as anyone could imagine. The contrast ratio is it's weakest area,it's good-OK, but limited. Technically, the power supply board runs too hot (120 degrees). I have a air filter/purifier mounted behind it, this airflow fixes the problem, that other reviews have stated about short life span. With a good H.D. camcorder the playback picture is absolutely stunning.
