  1. I live in Barbados, so bying this item from a third party seller ritz camera had me abit nervous but i trusted amazon so i knew that all would have gone well.

About a month after I received my monitor in very good condition and believe me it was worth the wait. This monitor i think is the best on the market. The screen resolution is just remarkable and the black in it beats any LCD moitor . I would recomend this moitor to any one just remember ,it has no speakers or tuner just connect it to your cable box and use your bnc to rca adapter and you are good to go .

My next step is to get the HDMI cable and module where i can enjoy real HD quality as we don't have that feature from our cable provider in Barbados .So any one out there who might be interested in this model or any other panasonic brands don 't waste your thoughts just buy it ,it is worth it .

  2. Pros: 1) Great picture! This plasma has the contrast you just can't find on an LCD.... not to mention the vibrant color! 2) The native resolution is higher than similarly priced panels at 1024X768. 3) This set easily produces a 1080i signal out of a cable box. Currently most satellite and cable companies are broadcasting HD in 1080i, and this panel which I am using as my bedroom tv is fitting the bill perfectly! I should mention I'm using component to BNC adaptors for my picture.

I also own a Sony 50" plasma which is also beautiful(but has had some reliability issues) and have tried an hdmi in that set and found that the picture looked better with component cables. With hdmi, the picture lost it's vibrant colors, and for the hefty price I returned the cable from where I bought it. Both cables were from the same top manufacturer. I also say skip the terminal board, unless you really need a HDMI input and just buy decent component cables. Even the component cables supplied from the cable company work just fine.

Cons: 1) The moniter should come with some BNC adapters. You will need to buy some if you use the component option. They only cost a few bucks and you will need 3 BNC adapters(BNC male/RCA female). 2) No tuner or speakers. This is exactly what I wanted though as my cable box is being used as a tuner, and I wanted to chose my own speakers. Not really a con unless you want these built in. In that case, you should buy the consumer version.

Other Thoughts: I'm thrilled with this purchase. This tv came with a free 5 year warrenty from Panasonic as long as you purchase before December 31, 2006. Keep an eye out because this free warranty is still re-appearing form time to time. A 5 year warranty simply means Panasonic has a lot of confidence in their product!

This is the second time I've dealt with the delivery company AIT(not sure who Amazon is currently using). Both times they've been awesome. They are not required to bring the tv inside(front door delivery), but have always offered. Just be sure you examine the panel before you sign anything as it could become damaged in shipment. Also, they usually deliver alone, and it's good to have somebody home to help them who is capable of lifting. Otherwise, you will have a problem. They call to schedule a delivery time. It will only protect your display.

  3. i bought my tv in january 07,works good then one day i see half picture and a white space on the display...can some one advise me what to do..pls ..

  4. This is an amazing HDTV monitor, it works really well. The picture is very sharp. It is better than LCD, especially in fast moving scenes.
I owned it for 4 months. Excellent blacks, excellent picture quality, nothing to complain about.

  5. I've had a 50 inch model of one of these for over year now, and I just got a 42 inch model to use as a computer monitor & HDTV for my quest room... Yeah I wish they were 1080p .. but watching it.. I've never been disappointed at all... They are really beautiful screens. Now matter where we go and what we've seen in stores and other peoples new 1080p HDTVs, we are always glad to get back home to this set. Couple of things.. I don't know why people bother to tell you there is no tuner.. I don't know anyone that uses their built in tuner anyway.. we do have one bedroom hdtv we just use the built in speakers.. but those too.. few people use.. I guess it's best you know that a monitor doesn't include those though. And as far as being glossy and shiney.. Our 50 inch model in in a room with 4 - 25 by 8 foot windows in front of it.. and glare has never been the slightest issue. My wife's favorite seat is as the perfect angle to be glared out.. and she doesn't even notice it she says.. So we have a pretty extreme setup for glare, and it isn't a problem. It looks like it will be before you turn it on, but it's not. Yes you don't get many inputs.. but you can buy more... and the really cool thing about that, I've already found out.. is as your equipment changes.. you can switch to different types of inputs.. to hook up most anything.. They has built in split screen controls.. big picture, little picture in picture, two pictures same size.. some (the 50) 3 pictures.. I hooked a PC up with a blue tooth keyboard and mouse and I watch TV, or use my PC or both.. or can switch to my old Nintendo Game Cube without getting up... Which is what I'm doing now with the 42 in the quest room. The rez could be better for using with a PC.. but it's great still.. big and beautiful.. We say that and you go 'ok'.. but I tell you.. watching an HD travel show is just stunning.. sometimes it's better than being there.... Get the expensive steel stand. These things aren't the lightest.. the stand holds in firmly in place.. I would mount the 50s on the wall unless you plan to go ino the wall and do some serious bracing... You can go to Panasonic.com and go to the Business section (not Commercial).. and find the monitors there.. It will show you all the different input boards you can get (you can even get a board with a whole PC built into it.. I wouldn't.. but still) These inputs change with the times, which is nice. I expect these monitors will last a long time.. I think they have like 60,000 hour expected life time without repairs.. which is years.. They are built to be left on as displays in airports and stuff... so they are rugged.. You just won't be unhappy with these monitors, once you crank them up.. Whenever you come home to it from a trip.. You will turn it on.. and know you are back home...

  1. I have been very pleased with my purchase. The picture on this model is incredible. I spent a lot of time researching this purchase. I actually went to Circuit City to compare the picture on this set versus the picture on a comparable Panasonic model and I believe the Samsung TV is superior to the Panasonic. Also, my brother in law has a 50 inch Panasonic 1080P plasma and the picture on my plasma 720 Samsung is significantly better. The delivery service was excellent. I received the set in about a week after the order was placed. All in all, I don't believe you can beat the Amazon price along with the free delivery. The biggest problem I have is that now I don't want to watch TV on any other set in the house.

  2. Bought this TV for myself last November and liked it so much bought another for Mom last month. HD picture is as good as any TV costing much more. For the money you cannot find a better TV. Don't be fooled by the need for 1080p when this will give you a picture that is comparable. It has all the bells and whistles that most people want and need. Study the Specs carefully when you buy coz many times people are paying more for features you may not need or use. Very happy with my purchase.

  3. the poker room really enjoys it !!
    have a 50" samsung upstairs.
    love it !!
    no complaints on either tv.
if you open your eyes, explore, and read, it is very user friendly.
don't use the sound cuz we have surround sound on both.

  4. After years and years of suffering with a smaller screen, I finally splurged and went out and bought one of these bad boys. I was not disappointed at all!!

I did a ton of research on the web and then went and looked at the ones I liked at the local "Best Buy". I even brought in my favorite DVD to see how the different models looked in a familiar show. For the price, this was the one I went home and bought online at Amazon.

Why in the world would anyone want to lug a piece of equipment like this anywhere when you can have it delivered for free from Amazon!! My delivery was perfect, but I understand there needs to be a little flexibility when you have to ship this stuff by a heavy weight carrier. I love the fact they bring it in and let me inspect the TV for damage.

The sound is pretty decent. I don't even feel the need to fire up the sound system for daily TV viewing any more:).

The picture is outstanding. I never noticed how much stuff gets purposely blurred out in TV shows before now. Thing like license plates, a protruding nipple, that bloody scene on ABC. It is amazing some of the stuff they blurred out in shows that I never even noticed before getting this TV.

The number of connectors is satisfactory. A network connection would be that extra nice touch. With all the HDMI stuff coming out now days, a 3rd one of those would be handy eventually as well. The USB connection for possible updates was a huge relief to see. I think I might even be able to play some picture from it, but I haven't given that a try yet.

Overall, a very solid buy after having it almost 6 month!

  5. After reviewing many TVs, I decided to go with this one. I've had it for 4 months now and love it.

One bit of advice for those about to break into the HD world. When we first plugged in the TV, I thought I did something wrong because the picture didn't take up the entire screen area. What I found out later is that non-HD channels only display in a portion of the screen. I wish there were more HD channels to display on this great TV.

  1. I purchased this tv at a local retailer in my area in order to avoid the delivery hassle, and I have to say that I am very satisfied with this purchase. I started using this tv by playing dvds thru my Bose 321 system and the picture looked very good if the dvd quality was high. I had intended to purchase an upconverting dvd player and when I found the Toshiba A2 HD player for $140.00 thru Amazon I bought it because it has HD Dvd playing abilities along with upconverting of regular dvds. I finally got to see what this television was capable of when I viewed my first HD dvd and even the regular dvds look great with this combination of player and tv. The HD dvds are really amazing.

I did have one glitch with this television. This tv had a habit of turning off right about 2 hours after it had been turned on and the sleep timer had not been set. When I contacted Phillips about this problem they could not find a service center that would come to my area to repair my television so they replaced it with a new one. They made arrangement to have the new one delivered to my house and picked up the faulty tv at the same time.

I am very pleased with the televsion and the customer service I received.

  2. If you are considering buying this TV, know this: It has an exceptionally high defect rate when compared to other, similar Plasmas. Specifically, it has a major problem with board faults (i.e. the circuits that run the TV). This defect causes the TV to turn off on its own shortly after initial use. A bit of internet searching will confirm this fact.

I read a bit about this prior to purchasing, but because of the price, decided to roll the dice and buy it anyway. Now, i am left with a $1500 (at the time) TV that doesnt work, cant be repaired, and if its replaced, will possibly continue to break. Philips just wants to keep sending Tech guys out to fix it. Yet, every one that shows up says there's nothing they can do and that i need to exchange the TV. Problem is that with most big TVs, you can only exchange for the exact same item. It a sadistic loop of replacing one poorly engineered TV with the same thing.

So go ahead and take your chances...just dont say you werent warned

  3. I purchased a plasma TV from Philips and started having problems with the television within a few months. Philips customer service was horrible to work with and it took three months for them to repair my television. Every time I called they told me that the part "was on it's way." They said that for three months. Whenever I called they wouldn't be specific. Not happy with their service. TV was defective. Didn't even last a year.

  4. This tv does in fact have high failure rate I know I purchased one
January 2 2008 and the tv would turn its self off after only minuets
of watching. Little trouble shooting with Philips shows that the unit had power board failure. Also when you would turn the tv off only the screen would sometime go out the power board would remain on with led lights on the board still Glowing. you can view the green led lights on the board by looking through the vent holes from the back. When the is turned off the lights should go off PER Philips. Sometime mine would sometime they would remain on after turning the unit off.
I returned the tv for replacement and the second tv did the same exact thing the TVs were MFG only one month apart. I wounder how many people have this same set that are not even aware of the power board not shouting off? If I had two sets with same problem you know there has to be many out there with same falure.
This tv looks great that is what sold me and the price and the name Philips. I got my refund and purchased a Samsung. after all this and dealing with Philips. When I see the name Philips I turn my head. Never again will I purchas a Philips brand again

  5. I bought this tv and i could not be more pleased with it, it work's great, & has the best picture i have ever seen, It's connected to fiber optic and the picture looks like it's real, I have one in my coach and it gets bounced around a lot and it plays as good as the one in the house, the way I look at it if high End motorcoaches install it in there units it got to be a great product.Hey they do have lemons out there.

  1. I searched all the local stores and could only find a couple of flat screens with a built in DVD player. It seems to me that more would have that feature because the whole point of a flat screen to me is to save space. I put this out in a florida type room and so there wasnt much free space for a table and coventional tv so I thought, flat screen mounted to the wall would be perfect. Then I thought well heck if I have to get a DVD player it has to go on a stand under the tv and there goes my space savings. So a built in DVD player was the answer. WOW what a perfect choice. Beautiful picture, no floor space taken up and built in DVD player. I love it and highly recommend it.

  2. I've been waiting over a month for customer service on a dead screen. Do not buy Akai. Ask the Better Business Bureau.

    --update--

Akai finally found a service center to pick up the TV. The guy was great and was in contact with me the whole time. Unfortunately, Akai took months to get him schematics for the power supply, which wasn't broken. They wouldn't give him anything else. Akai did call Sam's club for us and let us return the TV. STAY AWAY FROM AKAI!

  3. We received the Akai 27 inch LCD TV, refurbished and paid $679.00. It was delivered defective with a loud buzzing noise. The product is not refundable & there is no "LIVE" person to speak with from Amazon. We were informed that we had to go through Akai for repair. We have made dozens of phone calls-It has been three weeks and no one has come to repair the TV- Never buy a refurbished TV and never purchase an Akai product. They make promises, will not let us talk to a supervisor or corporate headquarters. Awful!!

  4. I am cheap and have been holding out for just the right deal. I find it difficult to justify 500.00 to 1,000.00 for a 27" LCD TV. The result is that I have been watching the same tube 19" tv in my bedroom for 15 years!
I found this on line as a reman for 369.00 at (...).
The sound is ok. Two speakers under the screen, not dolby 7.1, but ok for the bed room. The picture is great! I also love having a built in DVD player.

Are there better? I am sure there are, however at this price I could not find any. I have read in other user reviews that there is a static sound that comes up. I have found this occationally on the lower analog channels of comcast cable. I unplug the cable box and tv, plug them back in and the problem goes away. It seems to be channel specific. I had comcast out, however they can't find anything wrong. If I just unplug the tv, the problem stays. I do not think this is a tv problem.
    I recomend this tv if:
1-You do not mind factory reconditioned
    2-You want a combo tv/dvd
3-You are cheap and refuse to pay the inflated prices.

  5. I purchased an Akai LCD from Radio Shack, within 3 months the picture would black out - obviously some component overheating. Sent it in for repair under warranty. Two months later, they sent me back a totally different set with scratches all over the case. The remote was a Phillips universal that they had painted black over the name! The set is too large for a specific area that I purchased the original one for.

I emailed Akai 4 times and get only a generic response that says:

"Thank you for your inquiry. Your email will be answered as soon as possible.

If you want to order parts, please call 888-498-7278.
If you want to speak to a representative (customer service, tech support, or to request service), please call 866-278-5900.

Again, thank you for your business."

I contacted customer service and explained what had happened and told them that I wanted my original set back. They said they couldn't do anything about it, they would have to contact Akai to see what they could do. It's been over a week and I have not heard from Akai.

Do yourselves a favor and don't buy their garbage products backed up by NO customer service whatsoever!

  1. I just bought this projector after reading a review from projectcentral.com. I also just got a DirecTV HD DVR. I am projecting onto a 137" Dalite permawall screen in a light controlled room. The image quality with recent HD material is stunning. When looking at bright daylight images it looks like a window, with amazing detail. I am replacing an Infocus X1. I also had a Sanyo Z4 for about two weeks. The image from the Sanyo was too harsh because of the LCD (also I was sitting 1x the distance from the screen which should really be 2x for LCD's and 1.5x for DLP's).

  2. - The picture is stunning!
    - Easy instalation
    - Greate input options with HDMI/DVI
    - HD video/TV looks...well it brings a tear to my eye
    - Bright enough to use with "some" light
    - Fills a 100" screen with ease

    But

    - The unit stoped working after two weeks. No power at all. Infocus customer service has been great to work with though. If you can't live without your system I recomend getting the exchange program. They recieved my faulty projector and shipped out a new one the same day.

If not for the "power" problem I would have given it 5 stars.

  3. I made a lateral move from an Optoma HD72 to the Infocus IN76. These projectors have a very similar spec and street price. I switched because the HD72 required a new bulb every 900 hours. At $400 per bulb (every year) this was too much. HDTV looks great on both units. I have had both set to 120" screen in a 13'x13' room with some ambient light.

    The IN76 is noticeably brighter.
The IN76 was easier to setup.
The IN76 does a better job scaling DVDs up to 720p
The HD72 is slightly quieter fan noise
The IN76 has been much more reliable
The IN76 has a sexier looking case

At the time I bought the Optoma hd72 it was cheaper, but it has proven to be far more costly to operate. The IN76 prices have fallen to match the Optoma and I am much happier with it.

  1. this was my first hd. television since I can't find any reviews for it
I trusted westinghouse brand.the good is that it have plenty of inputs
and few good features. the bad is that only lasted 4 days alive just shows
the tv logo and goes off. called tech support there was no way to get this thing to work.I'm sending it back a toshiba 52rv530u is in the wayToshiba REGZA 52RV530U 52-inch 1080p LCD HDTV
hope I have better luck with this

  2. Great TV. It would be unwise to pay more money for higher end models. I
have seen higher end models and really can't see a difference. The sound
on this TV is just fine. I guess the other reviewer expected this TV to have a bose surround sound built in. I am very happy with my TV and Cructhfield for having the lowest price anywhere. I have done extensive research and found this TV to be the best bang for your buck. I don't see how you could go wrong with this TV. It might not have features like PIP or some other silly feature people want thats never used. This TV has all the features I need. It has a great picture and looks good. Don't get caught up in specs;this TV is great. So far im very pleased. I have another westinghouse 32"LCD and 20" computer monitor that are 2 years old. At this point im very pleased with them thats why I decided to buy a 3rd from them. Long as this TV holds up like the other two I will be very pleased.

  3. I've had this TV for about two months. Like the picture quality. Don't expect the sound to be as good as a $3000 TV, but it is good enough in general. Or you can always hook up a home theatre with it. It seems to have a feature of self-shut-down after an electric shortage. You'll have to unplug and plug the power cord physically to reset it. I am not sure what is the mechanism, but it is not very convenient. Other than that, I think it is the best 52" TV I could find for under 2k.

  4. The packaging was adequate. No frills , but thats how I like it. Cut costs where it doesn't hurt.

Weight, Heavy but manageable. Me and a little creativity put on top of my mantle.

Bezel and overall appearance are great. The Bezel trim is glossy but not mirror glossy like my Vizio.

    Setup was simple.

Menu is very intuitive and easy to navigate.
The remote is also no frills , I like this too. However it is very light and one of the most comfortable I have held in a long time. Very easy to operate without looking.

Picture quality is far better than the westies I am used to seeing in the retail locations. Not gray at all. The night before I watched Spider Man 3 via Blu ray on my friends 52" Sony Bravia. Last night I played the exact same movie and used the same player. I, nor my wife could tell a difference. Maybe side by side there " may" have been a difference but nothing we either noticed. I surely saw no $1200 difference!

The spine/ waterfall design came in very handy as I hooked up various connections. I still have not tried my HTPC.

When displaying OTA content natively there is a row or two of pixels of "snow". I beleive others have posted about this. However at my distance "FILL" and "OVERSCAN" do just fine.

Menu has a ton of options as well.

    Cons
Have found none yet! I will update as I do.

  5. I was hesitant to venture away from the big Sony, Toshiba, Sharp, Samsung, and LG brands. But professional reviews from PC Magazine and UltimateAV.com highly recommended this TV for excellent contrast, color, and brightness so I took a "risk."

Ends up that it wasn't that much of a risk. Apparently Westinghouse is the largest maker of LCDs under 32" and has been pushing really hard to become one of the big players for large HDTVs (I read somewhere that they are the fourth largest LCD maker overall in the US). Whereas other big name manufacturers experiment with different feature combinations in their various 52" panels to maximize money out of consumers (think BMW and their various "series"), Westinghouse focused on getting the major features right for a great price and create happy customers.

I really like the picture quality. Very crisp 1080p with exceptional contrast. Basically no need to adjust color as it's nearly perfect out of the box (just about every other HDTV needs professional calibration). Extremely bright even when surrounded by four windows. No issue with screen glare from overhead lighting. No ghosting issues that I can see. Instant on when energy saver mode is off.

I would have liked to see 120 hz processing although that is still a mostly unproven technology from my understanding (I can't really tell the difference at my local big box retailer) and HDMI 1.3 (this one is 1.2a) w/Lip Synch. All this can be had from the big names for about [...]...way more than the ~[...] I paid for this unit.

5 comments about EPSON Powerlite Home 10+ Multimedia Video Projector.
  1. I purchased the Epson Powerlite Home 10+ after much research on projectors. I was on a limited budget and this epson product was an excellent bargain. I have had it for about 3 weeks and find that is excellent. I have used Epson computer products in the past and have had good luck with there products. One of purchase points for me was that you have a 2 year product warranty from Epson. It's only 90 days on the lamp..but that seems to be normal, replacement cost for the lamp however was a little cheaper then others at 199.99 list..and you should be able to find it online for a little less.

My main purpose for the projector is to watch DVD movies and the resolution that it has is ideal for that purpose.

I would highly recomend this projector.

  2. I've owned and run this for about two years. It works fine in my basement "Home theatre." I project on to a wall that is painted with a custom color - paint recipe from the Internet. I have it showing about a 100" image in 4:3 format. It's been very trouble free. In my setup, I can get the room fairly dark. If you have a lot of ambient light, this isn't going to be the ideal projector.

I'd recommend it to anyone, noting that this is NOT going to be your HD system. It is what it is and that resolution isn't there.

  3. I purchased my Epson Powerlite Home 10+ about a year ago at Costco, and it came with a free giant sized projection screen. The screen is a must if you want good quality images - projecting the image onto a regular wall just does not do justice to the picture.

Set up was easy. The unit worked out of the box - no fuss. I mounted it upside down on the ceiling in my kids' playroom. The keystone correction and projection orientation selections work flawlessly and are easy to use.

The projected image is very good. I have a High Definition PVR (component input) and a DVD Player (composite input) - the unit works very well with both signals. Sporting events in High Definition are really impressive, and the auto select aspect ratio is a nice touch.

My kids' playroom can be darkened even at high noon, so we set the display on Theatre Black most of the time to save bulb life. I purchased a replacement bulb, but have not had the need to use it yet.

The remote control is a joke - but needed, so find a way to hold on to it without losing it. This is the only bad thing I have to say about this product.

This is not the best product on the projector market, but it is by far the best value, especially when they throw in a $300 screen. I highly recommend it for first-time projector buyers, or like me, for a second system in the house.

  4. We purchased this projector three years ago for our basement theater room. Was ok as a beginner projector, but not great. We bought an extended warranty plan for three years and about two weeks after the warranty ran out started having problems with it turning on. Had to send it to an approved Epson repair and was told that the power assembly needed to be replaced for a cost of $400. They also said the bulb needed to be replaced, when we only had about 800 hours on it. The tech said that you can't just go by the hours on the lamp because ours had black burn marks on it and the picture quality was being affected. Since a replacement bulb is another two hundred dollars we decided to purchase another projector. This time we went with a sony and can't believe the difference, it's far and above better than the Epson. Unless you want to buy a new projector in a few years I would stay away from this one.

  5. PURCHASE YOUR EPSON PRODUCT THROUGH AN AUTHORIZED DEALER OR FROM EPSON DIRECTLY.

This is not a review of this product, but rather a word to the wise... Two and half months after my purchase of an Epson 10000XL scanner through Amazon, it stopped working. Through the followup and tech support process I learned that, because I purchased through Amazon, the manufacturer nor the seller would honor the 1 year warranty. Epson's position is that Amazon is not an authorized seller and that they merely act as broker for what can often be re-furbished or second hand merchandise.

So, should your purchase break or malfunction, as mine did, you are out of luck with regard to warranty.

    This lesson cost me $2400.00
