  1. It has a great picture for a good price. Easy set up. I am very happy with this HDTV.

  2. This TV is amazing! The first one I got had some issues with fine detail (particularly with single-pixel-wide sharp contrast). After some investigating I determined the set was messed up and I exchanged for a new one. The problem is gone... It looks great!

I am particularly impressed with the power consumption and energy saving features that come with this TV. Make sure to adjust the "energy saving mode," if you are an energy-miser like myself. I hooked the set up to a Watt-meter and got the following results:

    ON (displaying a basketball game):
("energy saving mode" @ max): 263W
("energy saving mode" @ half): 180W
("energy saving mode" @ min): 119W

    OFF:
    (quick on) 17W
(norm on) 0W (resolution of meter does not show fractional Watts - so it is probably between 0W and 1W)

The energy story is great, but I got the TV for the picture - which looks amazing! Halo 3 @ 1080p - looks fantastic. Watching Monday Night Football in HD makes me wonder how people watch sports in SD anymore. I'd put this JVC HDTV up against a Samsung or any other brand any day.

My only complaint (other than having to return the first one) is that there is no DVI input - Hardly a problem considering it has 2 HDMI inputs. I am very happy with it.

  3. We just love this TV it went through 2 trucking companies to get here from tiger direct but was worth it. It has one bad pixel but we haven't contacted JVC about this yet but still very easy to set up great picture and great price! After reading many reviews on amazon this TV was the best for the brand we love.

  4. 42" HDTV bought through Amazon & Tiger Direct. Very well satisified with both services

  5. i did a thorogh research before landed on this one. i do like the 120Hz Sony better, but i decided not to pay $2500 for a 40" and for my first HDTV set.
JVC has not disappointed me. i am a fan of JVC, my last tube set lasted 13 years. the picture quality is superb for this new set, color is vivid, natural and smooth. i am surprised to find the price has actually gone up!! i paid $1,100 and now is $1444? wow!
the sound quality is really good as well. setup was easy, the craftsmanship is good, very clean design. very happy overall.

  1. I ordered this TV thru Amazon, but they were unable to get. I wound up ordering from B & H Video. WHAT A PICTURE. Hooked up to my DirecTV high-def receiver & has an excellent picture - crisp & sharp. I purchased the pink because my wife loves that color. NICE JOB SONY...

  1. I love everything about this TV. Great picture. Great size. Great looking. Great price. Everything I hoped for when I wanted HD TV. I've had it for 6 months and I'm still blown away by it. Especially sports. I'm a big time hockey fan and the difference between this and the picture on a very nice Pro Scan regular TV is unbelievable. It's like having your face up against the glass. Football and baseball too. I had one little problem when I first got it. I sometimes had to turn it on a couple of times to get it to start up, but that problem disappeared after a few weeks and hasn't occurred for some time now. I'd recommend this set to anyone. My brother got a 50 inch LG and I think they're both about the same quality.

  2. I purchased a 58inch HP Pavilion HD TV roughly 2 years ago. The computer went out in the TV. HP replaced the TV as they could not fix the problem. The technician, (whom was wearing an HP shirt and name badge), that installed the new TV said that with the new TV my warranty resets. He told me this because I expressly asked "what happens if the new TV ends up having the same problem?" Less than 9 months later the new TV also broke with the same computer problem. I contacted HP technical department and I was told that the warranty explained to me by the HP technician was incorrect. They went as far as to try and say that the technician was from a 3rd party and didn't work for HP. I asked for the 3rd parties name and was told that HP wasn't required to give me that information. I implore anyone that is considering buying a TV from HP to consider Sony or any other product TV besides HP.

  3. I BOUGHT THIS UNIT ON MARCH 10,2008 THIS IS JUNE 20TH AND I HAVE BURN-IN. I CONTACTED SAMSUNG TO FIND OUT THAT THEY DON'T COVER BURN-IN. PLEASE BUY A LCD. THE WARANTY ON THIS PROUDUCT SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. This is a very good TV for the price! My mom has a Samsung and spent over $3,000.00 on hers, and the quality of this one definitely outshines hers! I just upgraded to an HD cable box and the picture is very good. I gave this 4 starts because burn in and ghosting happens fairly easy on this TV. You have to be VERY careful if you are watching channels that have a logo on it for more than 40 minutes. I even have the contrast/brightness/color, etc. all below 50. My kids love to watch Nick, and I had the Nick logo stuck on my TV for days... (after watching for only 1 hour) Another time I was switching DVD's and my DVD player was on and the word "Pioneer" was burned into the TV in bright pink for 3 days; it was left on screen for no longer than 2 minutes. Other than that...great deal! Great picture!

  5. After doing TONS of research and going back and forth on 1080 vs. 720, I went for this beauty. I don't have a Blue-Ray player and I don't own a PS3 (yet) so I couldn't take advantage of 1080. Broadcast HD TV is 720 anyway. I have owned this set for about 10 months and at the time the same size LCD was $500 more and the screens on the LCD's of the day just were not as bright as plasma IMO.

Best thing to do, go to your local electronic store, compare TV's side by side and then buy it on Amazon. First of all Amazon rocks! Customer service is awesome. 2 weeks after we bought the TV it dropped $150 and when I called Amazon they gave me the difference back! This is only good for up to 30 days after your purchase date. No tax for us in CA, and Free white glove delivery. TV came on time, delivery company called me to schedule an appointment for delivery. The delivery guy brought the TV in and help set it up and even cleaned up the mess.

TV was a breeze to setup. I have HD Comcast cable running in via composite cables, a Wii via composite, a media center PC into the VGA port and a DVD player plugged in through one of the HDMI pots. Couldn't get coax to work directly connected to the TV but no big deal, I watch it through my cable box anyway.

I read online that you had to "break in" a plasma or you would have burn in early on. I had the TV's settings dialed in to my room brightness but still kept it at 50% brightness. Even at that setting the TV was still VERY bright! Yes it is a plasma TV and YES there will be burn in at some point. After playing Guitar Hero III for hours with friends yes there is a ghost of the game burned into the screen. Flip the channel to any HD FULL SCREEN channel and in about 10 minutes, its all gone.

Early on we would run the anti-burn feature on the TV when we went to bed to keep burn in from being permanent. Set the sleep timer for 30-60 min, and start the scrolling anti-burn feature. The next morning when we turned on the TV, it was all gone.

All in all, I love it!

    PROS:
    Great picture
    Great color
    Looks good on or off
Sound is impressive for such small speakers
    Lots of inputs

    CONS:
Burn in after gaming or when watching sports (score board or news ticker)
Plasma uses alot of energy vs LCD
Plasma puts off alot of heat for a TV. Keep airflow open around TV
VERY heavy, need two people to move safely

  1. quality of picture and TV in general is very good, would definitely recommend it. The only thing that i dont like so much is the exterior appearance, my samsung 46" looks much nicer, but as this is the only downside:

    Definitely worth the buy !!

  2. Great buy, very satisfied with size, unless its right next to a 40 or 42 inch tv you would never know its a tad smaller. Wonderfully clear picture, I use a digital antenna and pick up amazing free digital local TV. Really really impressed by picture quality.

  3. Got this TV at an Atlanta area MART that sells many BRANDS (hint, hint), and got it at an excellent price (after salesperson cuts and rebates, got it for just over $900). Its a different model number (store-specific), but the same exact TV.

Here are lists for the pros and cons:

    PROS
    - Excellent picture, and easy to plug-n-play
    - The TV menu/options has a TON of pick-and-choose settings, which leads to an endless amount of tweaking to get the best possible picture.
    - The set looks nice mounted on the wall.
    - The sound for TV/Cable is excellent.
    - The HD picture for the cable is crisp and clear!
    - Energy save features are great (auto-shut off, signal detection, automatic brightness adjuster, etc).

    CONS
    - Main Con: The picture from playing Blu-Ray movies (connected with a proper 1080p HDMI cable from a PS3) is not as crisp as some other TVs I have seen. I've been told that this is most likely due to the size of the TV, as larger TVs would be able to deliver 'crisper' detail (as the 1080 horizontal lines wouldn't be as compacted).
Was told by a certain store's 'Dork Group' that at 37', 1080p is only JUST more noticeable that 720p would be. They said in order for 1080p to be fully observed, a screen size of 42' and greater is best.
    - The sound of both blu-ray and regular DVDs leaves something to be desired. I don't have a home theater set-up, and the speakers on the TV don't seem to handle the dolby digital sound as well as they should (can watch TV with volume in the teens...need to hike it up to the upper 30's to mid 40's for DVD/blu-ray playback). I think its just an issue with the TV's ability to compress the higher audio input.
    - All inputs are in back of the TV (not side-mounted). Thus, if your TV is mounted to the wall, once its there, changing out cords and plugs is a challenge w/o removing the TV from the wall.
    - On-TV buttons (power, volume, etc) are on top of the TV. Again an issue if the TV is mounted on the wall.
    - On occasion, it takes the TV up to 10 seconds to read a new signal. For instance, playing a Blu-Ray disc, the rating screen is typically in 720p resolution. The TV will show 'lag' in decoding the 720p signal vs. the 1080p of the rest of the disc.

Sharp made a nice HDTV here, but the designing of the TV is quite flawed and poorly executed. Plus, the information about the 1080p resolution on this size TV is a little off-putting. I recommend saving a few hundred bucks and going with the 720p model for the 37' inch set. Also, be sure to consider needing additional speakers in order to fully enjoy DVD/blu-ray sound.

  4. This is an awesome LCD. Sharp, in my opinion, has it all including a great price. The contrast ratio is very important to have the best images, colors and true black/whites. The Aquos has one of the highest
available for the price. Great for gaming & action scenes as well. The vendor shipped the product out quickly...ordered tuesday night and arrived thursday by 3:00pm...very nice.

  5. I bought a new Sharp LC-37D62U on-line. It was pretty, the right size for my space, the specs were great and customer reviews were favorable. My experience to this point has been less than favorable.
The picture quality is pretty good, good viewing angle, very dark blacks and good contrast. Unfortunately, the audio will not lock onto two local digital sub-channels, it cuts in and out. I've tried a different antenna, with no change. Two other digital tuners in the house work fine on all channels. Sharp customer service tried to diagnose the problem by phone and finally decided to dispatch a local repair center. The local repair center says the problem is with the Sharp firmware and cannot be resolved until Sharp updates the firmware. Sharp denies a firmware issue and blames the local broadcaster. I asked why my other tuners worked, they said their tuner doesn't work like other peoples'. They are half right.
So, here I sit with a new Sharp TV that for whatever reason will not work with two of the local stations. I guess my options are to move to another city and hope those broadcasters work on Sharp TVs, watch the other channels or buy another new TV. If I get another TV, I don't think I'll consider Sharp as an option!

  1. The TV is very easy to setup. The picture quality is fantastic. Before the purchase, we compared this model to other brands and found the Samsung had the best picture quality. The contrast is very good on this TV. Highly recommended!

  2. This TV has exceeded my expectations. I've had it over 7 months and I still find it amazing. It works great for games as well as blu-ray.

Oddly, glare from the shiny screen has not been a problem for me. On a bright day I occasionally turn up the backlight to see the darkest colors in certain games, but I think this is more a function of the physics of the human eye adjusting to light and not anything to do with the shiny screen. By the opposite token, nitpickers may complain that the darkest blacks aren't pitch black in a *darkened* room, but this isn't very noticeable except in credits or in dark horror films/games. The price difference between this and the next model up doesn't justify the small advantage of ultra-dark blacks to to me. I used that savings to get a PS3 on which to view blu-ray disks.

If you can call it a drawback, this TV doesn't feature 120hz technology, which gives live action movies a home video look and cg movies a video game look - neither of which looks "right" to me.

  3. I never received the TV from the merchant, Out of the Attic, and after three attempts to contact them, they still never responded. Fortunately, Amazon refunded my money, though. I noticed another customer review with almost the exact same problem, but I gave the merchant one more chance. Well, it looks like I've confirmed that this is either the most unreliable merchant or they don't even exist. I strongly caution anyone from buying from them, and I suggest Amazon drop them as one of their merchants.

  4. There are a number of already very detailed and well written reviews here on this HDTV and since it's out of production now I won't add to them except to say they are very accurate. We bought ours towards the end of this models run and for the deal we got (which meant getting a 52" instead of a 46" for the same price or actually less) I couldn't see a better 1080p 60 Hz HDTV out there. I studied the 65 against the 120Hz 71 model and the Sony Bravias and there was absolutely nothing that could justify the extra money except that the bezels on this era and model of Samsungs left a bit to be desired compared to the Bravia as far as quality. The newer 550, 650 and 750 series Samsungs have in my opinion much improved bezels. However, that rather cheap plastic black bezel isn't what you watch and unless I pay a lot of attention to it it's really hard to find anything wrong. It's operated flawlessly since removed from the box and set up. If you are happy with something that doesn't have quite all the bells and whistles of the newer Samsung replacements and at the much cheaper price these are bringing now I wouldn't pass it up however they're getting difficult to find now.

  5. Nice tv set, works well so far. The universal remote does not seem to be able to operate a comcast box but overall good4 stars. That makes an average of 3 stars because amazon gets 2!!! My tv was supposed to be in mint condition and refurbished. When I got it I discovered tons of scratches everywhere on the panel and surrounding plastic, there was brown taped all over the set which took hours to remove and the batteries of the remote were dead! Add to that the $150 price drop 2 days after I ordered and you get a real feeling that you made a poor deal.

  1. FULFILLS MY EXPECTATIONS 90%.

THE ONLY WEAKNESS IS THE BRIGHTNESS.

PERFECT FOR PRESENTATIONS IN SMALL ROOMS.

I COMPLAIN FOR THE LACK OF BATTERIES IN AMAZON.

  2. Thanks for the great quality, fast and trustable shipping and kind behaviour. I am totally satisfied with this item and service...

  3. The p310 me is a great dlp projector. i rate this item as 4 starts because of the following: 1. in a dark room the image quality is absolutely superb for the 800x600 resolution. 2. Small size, you will not believe that the projector, adapter and cables fit in a letter size case 8x11x3 inches. 3. long lasting lamp. 4. No audible noise or heat from the fan. the only two things to complain are the low light output and connection cable that fells a little weak.

  1. I bought this product at Best Buy. It seemed to be the best as far as resolution and still below $1000. They call it a data projector, but in fact I use it for movies and the like. DVDs play with good clarity on a typical DVD player. Settings for the computer require some adjustment. It does get a bit grainy watching mpg quality video. It seems to be better for a ceiling mount due to the projection angle. The product is impressive, but not over impressive for what is on the market today.

  2. I've seen many images on many different media projectors, and the Optima projector is just, well, flat.

The color lacks depth, leaving presentations lackluster and media showings sad.

When I contacted Optima customer support, their answer was "This is a data projector and it doesn't give true color." I don't need true color, but every other projector I've seen gives better color.

I'm not happy with it, but for now I'm stuck with it.

  3. We are promoters of a national/world level bicycle race. We have to give training programs to large numbers of public safety personnel and to hundreds of volunteers. The Optima EP 749 Multimedia Projector met all of our needs.

  4. I bought this projector at Best Buy in June of '07 for about $800. I used it to watch TV and movies, often in HD, and was comfortable with the picture quality that I got for the price. As other reviews have noted the color quality isn't great, but high quality HD sources look very good. Lower quality standard def sources don't always look so good, but most of the time they are good enough.

My family and I used it about 6 hours a week, on average. After 350 hours of use (as measured by the lamp hour meter in the projector) and 14 months into it's life, two months out of the manufacturers 1 year warranty, the projector quit working. It will not turn on (no lights, no fan, no indication that it is even getting power). It gave no indications of having trouble prior to this.

Because Optoma only warranties this projector for a year they sent me to a third party service company. This company charges $145 up front to look at the broken projector, $85 of which is non-refundable. The minimum repair charge is $145, plus parts and labor ($100/hour).

I am very careful with equipment and haven't done anything with this portable projector that would be considered unusual. It spent a year sitting on an open, well-ventilated shelf in my TV room, and took one trip in the car, carefully packed into the very nice carrier that it comes with. It worked fine for several weeks after that.

I calculate that it has cost about $2.25 per hour of viewing. When I pay for a movie to watch on it, it only costs about $1.75/hr.

If I buy another projector, it will not be an Optoma. They do not stand behind their products long enough.

  5. I bought this product used, but with only 38 hours on the lamp. I have had bad experiences before with used projectors, and wasn't sure about this one. But since I got it for a good price ($250) I pulled the trigger.

Much to my surprise, using it as a theater projector, the color and brightness were great. Being no stranger to HD, as a long time subscriber, I thought the HD picture was very close to what I was getting on my living room, and rec room pictures.

I have read plenty on the lack of life on the lamp on this model, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. But since I don't use it a whole lot, I'm hoping to get a couple of years out of it. This model does also get very hot. Which would make sense why the bulb doesn't last long.
