3 comments about Sony XEL-1 11-Inch OLED HDTV.
  1. I just returned from Korea where I saw this display in an airport store. The screen is deceivingly small, the eleven inches looking even less generous than it sounds. It is wider than your average wide screen tv available, only half as tall as it is wide (about 5 inches - 5.5 according to this site.)

However, the picture looked amazing. I was caught by this before I knew I was looking at OLED - the faces on the display were the most realistic I have ever seen, on any kind of monitor. The quality was equivalent to a printed photograph. Looking closely I could still spot the pixels, the same size as any good quality lcd monitor. So I give credit mostly to the contrast ratio, in addition to the fact they were playing a blue ray from a ps3.

Anyway, 2500 is too much right now, I think you need to see it in person before you buy. I would dock a star for that, but I just can't be that harsh on this new technology - it really is the next big thing.

  2. i have been using this set for 6 months with a modified "code free" pioneer
dv-400v upscaling dvd player.(do not own any blu-ray or hd player yet.)picture on the xel-1 is so good im not feeling deprived. miner
issues:the screen is highly reflective and will need to be positioned so you arent viewing your own reflection, etc. also, the packaging for this set is quite complex,so if you buy online, you wont be casually shipping this back if you encounter problems. i am nearsighted, and this is an ideal set to watch without my glasses, which is important when using a headphone based audio setup.

  3. I love OLED technology. We needed a new set in the guest bath, so we ordered one of these on a whim. We all fell in love with them, and so the whole family wanted one. The next thing we ordered 6 more--one for each of the kids' rooms and the other bathrooms. I logged on today to buy 2 more after my wife found someone who could do a custom install in the H2's. Unfortunately, there wasn't enough room to put them in the H3's, so the kids will have to wait a year until they can trade up to something bigger.

I considered getting one for the master bedroom, but my one gripe is that the set is a little small. It's hard to replace a 50" screen with a 10" one. My wife said there was already too much undersized hardware in the bedroom. I'm not sure what she meant by that. I put a call into Sony, and they are accepting 10% deposits on the upcoming 36" OLED set. So that's something to consider. For the $5,000 you would spend for just two of the current OLED's, you can get on the waiting list for the 36", due in 2011.

Until then, I'm spending an awful lot of time locked in the bathroom. My wife keeps nagging me that I'll surely go blind, but I tell her the OLED isn't that small.

  1. The monitor part is perfect (great picture) easy to use, great size. For me dvd & tv are alittle out of focus. Some people may not notice. If you back up a bit it looks better. I'd recomend trying this tv out. Also- its "dc" 12volt so you can use it in a motor home.

  2. Out of the box months ago and still can't get it adjusted. From 12 feet away the sound is tinny and acceptable only if the bass is turned way up and the treble is turned way down. The picture is not crisp and the background is too black. If I adjust it brighter everything turns washed out. I expected more. I use it with ear phones and over a treadmill so it is acceptable for the price.

  3. I have owned this for over a year and when my laptop was stolen I connected it to a PC and it works fine. It's SAP function works and the sound was ok. I also have it conected to my local cable company so it does both functions. TV and PC monitor.

  4. the t.v. is a nice little television and it is loaded with features. I purchased it for my daughter after lightnening took out her 20 inch and she is happy with it. thank you.

  5. The TV broke a few days after receiving it. They sent me a new one at no charge and paid for the return of the broken TV. Only problem is that their warrantee on the TV would not start on the date I received the replacement TV. My warrantee on the replacement TV would start on the day I received the defective TV. Not very fair.

  1. I dont usually write too much reviews, unless I am really impressed. I did a lot of research to buy a big screen 52 inch LCD from a trusty Sony Trinitron. I first bought a Sharp 52 inch LCD 1080p (non 120hz) after research due to the style, the narrow bezel and frame, and good reviews of the picture quality from experts. However, I had to return 2 sets, one had a white line in the middle, and the second one had no picture after a few uses. Go figure. Then I researched bigger brands such as Sony, Samsung, but this one fit my budget. However, I hesitated, due to the brand Philips, which I was not familiar with. But, due to my budget, I bought it and was a great purchase so far. The set up was easy and I had no issues after installing it. During my research, I read articles by experts that 120hz does not make a big difference and may not be cost effective. However, WOW...I was impressed at the smooth movements it produced. I mean you can really notice it. The only issue I had, if you can even call it an issue, is that since the picture and movement is soooo clear, I felt that home movie theatre experience is now gone. The pictures are too clear and smooth unlike when you are in a theatre. Oh well, Im getting used to it and its super nice and I figure this is the wave of the future.

Only cons: 1) when you choose your components using only the "source" button, the screen turns black while the source box disappears, and you have to repress the button for the source box to reappear, and so on (this causes an unnecessary lag). An easy fix is just scrowing down the source box with the arrow buttons, but I think it would be easy to just press and repress the source button for changing components. Not a big deal, but on the Sharp you can flick through the sources using only the source button rather quickly; 2) when you turn the tv on, its blue with the "Philips" logo and lags before the picture comes out (waste of time, and feels like a computer monitor not a tv); 3) when you turn the tv off, it goes black then blue before shutting off (ditto #2 - hey Philips, what for?); and 4) asthetically, I feel the Sharp, Sony, Samsung has better looks and packaging, although the Philips looks tough and heavy :(. It is thicker in depth too than Sharp. And whats with that clear plastic frame that borders the bezel. Does this serve a purpose??? Its not like it makes the tv look better asthetically or anything.

All in all, this was a GREAT purchase for the mony and thats what counts! The picture is good and smooth and the unit seems to be reliable for now. I really hope it survives for a long time. I recommend this unit.

  2. I bought this TV after my Optoma 50" DLP died on me. I was already used to viewing HD on a 50" screen, so didn't expect to see much difference. But the LCD 1080p 120Hz is something else! I've been watching old movies because the look so crisp. I watched Edward Scissorhands as though I'd never seen it before, and I could make out every line in Pacino's bloodshot eyes in Dog Day Afternoon. I'm sure that last one has been digitally remastered before it ran on HD cable, but WOW!

On the negative side, I still haven't figured out some of the controls, and it doesn't seem to be possible to turn off some of the automatic adjustments. For instance, I programed my Harmony remote to toggle all my equipment between watching a DVD and watching cable, but the TV starts wandering through inputs as soon as the DVD player gets turned off. What's worse is that it only cycles to the end of the list and quits if it doesn't find a valid video signal. It does this despite the fact that my Harmony requests the valid input. I'll be able to adjust my Harmony to work around this, I think, but it's a pain.

All in all, I'm very happy with the new TV. It may take me some time to find my favorite settings, but it's not a bad problem to have.

  3. We bought this television from the Navy Exchange in April 2008, before it really went into production. We waited 4 months for its arrival, and it was worth every minute of that wait. The natural motion processors make the picture so realistic that it's like you're looking through a window at real people. The perfect pixel system gives you a picture that's so clear, you won't ever be able to watch a plain tv again. There are enough personalized settings that, no matter what your taste, you'll be able to set the picture up exactly the way you like it.

We did have one small problem with the set: It would randomly turn itself off. The set came right back on every time, but it was a real pain. We called the support number listed on the website and were pleased to find an easy fix. Steve, the support guy, gave us a downloadable file to upgrade the tv's software. We put it on a memory stick, popped it into the USB port of the tv, and it automatically upgraded the tv without any problems at all. The problem is gone now and we're back to watching tv with a smile.

Please note that these newer tv's require software updates from time to time. You're responsible for keeping it upgraded, so check back frequently. If you do need to call the nice people at Philips, please be sure to have your model and serial number handy. It makes things a lot easier.Philips 52PFL7403D/27 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV

  4. We bought this TV against my better judgement, because of the price. The set itself is rather good looking, and the set-up is relatively a breeze. I can see that this brand and model are geared more towards people who aren't to be bothered by complex features and advanced menu functions. I, however, am.

While this set may boast some of the same technologies as other, higher-quality sets, the technology isn't quite the same. The 120 Hz HD "Natural Motion" feature just isn't as refined as it is on other sets. But the worst is the HD "Pixel Perfect" feature that is supposed to make everything sharper. Unfortunately, this is like going into a remedial photo editing program and using the Sharpen Image tool about 5 times too many (if any of you have played around with editing your photos, you may know what I'm talking about). The result is that a lot of times, you get the dreaded "halo effect" around edges. Sometimes this benefits the picture with bolder, simpler images, but when there are lots of smaller details, this actually ends up making the picture worse. Pixel Perfect has actually made certain DVD text impossible to read. That's completely unacceptable. I have to say that the contrast in this TV is pretty poor.

The one plus about this TV is that the sound system is OUTSTANDING. They are probably among the most powerful speakers ever to be mated to an LCD TV.

With all that said, this set will suit you fine if you just want a just-capable-enough set with a big picture and impressive sound, but those with a more discerning eye will definitely need to look somewhere else.

  1. Keep in mind you are getting a bare bones monitor. No bells and whistles here. But then again you are not paying for all the extras. If that is want you want than look elsewhere.
This is good value in my opinion. Colors are nice and clarity is good. The factory settings are rather poor and it took me a few days to get it dialed in. At first I really let down but after getting things set to my liking I am more than happy. It is a big TN screen and some of the viewing angels are not the best, but nothing major. I use this screen for day to day internet browsing viewing DVDs and gaming. Gaming and DVDS have been a delight with the big screen. Basic set up is very easy but as I have stated before it will take some time to get it tuned in.
You have to evaluate what you plan to use this screen for. If you need ultra high quality color reproduction and super sharp images you will need to fork out a few more hundred dollars. If you are OK with
just above average quality and no bells and whistles this one is all you.

  2. Bought this monitor with a Dell Vostro 200. Bought it from Dell directly. The computer turned out to be pretty good but the Monitor just killed me. I added a couple of pictures for customers to see what I am talking about. It has 5 inch spots on it, that look like some kind of a production defect. I really thought that Dell could do better than that. I mean come on guys, there has to be some kind of quality control!!! Right? Now i have to send it back and see if they can exchange it for me. In exchange i bought me a Samsung 24" 245BW and it works just fine.

  3. It is a great product considering its price. Wonderful image and sharp colors, big size 24" widescreen, perfect for working with many windows open, full HD support and cool design that fits great with my Mac computer and my desk.

It is not a top range product and does not aim for professional designers. It doesn't have features like many inputs, integrated hubs, speakers etc. nor does it have an advanced technology panel like IPS or PVA. It is a single TN panel. That's why it is so cheap. But if you are not a professional graphic designer and you do not mind about accurate color reproduction, you will not get disappointed as image quality is still amazing. If you are thinking about buying with the same money a smaller monitor with more features, do not do it!! Sizes matters as well as full HD resolution. As I said, it's really a monitor worth to buy it, ideal for both working and gaming.

  4. This was my first LCD purchase after my CRT died on me. The first thing I noticed was how incredibly light this display is. I could probably lift it with one hand, making it very easy to setup and install. The other thing I noticed is how solid the stand is. A few of the other displays I considered had cheap flimsy looking stands. This one tilts without feeling like it's going to fall over.

This particular model has an anti-glare screen instead of the popular high-gloss finish. I know this is a matter of personal preference, but I find the reflections in high-gloss screens distracting.

The display itself is very bright with vivid colors. The native 1920x1200 resolution looks absolutely amazing. I would strongly recommend using the DVI connector if your video card supports it. The analog connection can make text a little fuzzy.

The only thing that makes this a 4-star monitor instead of 5, is that there is no USB hub built in. At this price though, I think it's a great buy.

  5. I purchased this item in April 2008 as new. The display now has a nice long strip of dead black pixels since early October that got worse and worse throughout October. It may eventually reach up to the top of the screen as it has been getting much worse. I have never had problems this bad with any other monitors I have owned. Please stay away from this model as it may have problems such as this.

5 comments about Vizio 32" LCD HDTV - VX32L.
  1. I work at Sears as a TV salesmen and im a college student. So I know a few things about televisions. I am one of the better part time salesmen in our store but anyways.

Being a college student, I didn't have alot of money to throw around. Im 18 years old and wanted an HDTV to play my Xbox 360 on. All I have to say is I made the right decision.

Being around TVs for 6 to 8 hours straight can get annoying but it does give you alot of time to look at each set and see the differences in quality and price.

The best two looking television in the 32 range LCD are obviously the Sony Bravia KDL-32S3000 32" 720p LCD HDTV sets or the Samsungs. Yes they do look better but they by no means look $400 better than the Vizio. So weighing out all my options and wanted to stay under the $700 range it was either the Vizio, Sylvania, or the Olevia. This was the no brainer of the year. The Vizio looks so much better than both these sets and the worst thing is the Vizio is cheaper than the Sylvania.

I also got a great deal on it. For one the signing manager was told to put the old display Vizio on closeout and a new one in its place. I was like I wanna buy this TV tonite so he put the new one outta the box on closeout and left the old one there. So I got a 629 dollar Tv for about 500 plus my associate discount.

Once I brought the TV home I was immediatly satisfied. Going from a 13 inch SDTV (although it was LCD) to a 32 inch HD TV was incredible. After tweakings of the settings my 360 games looked just as good as they do on my uncles Samsung. This shows that if you are technically able you can spend far less on a TV and with some setting adjustments make it look like a 1000 dollar set.

There are some reasons I gave this TV a four though. For one the sound isn't very good. I use a surround sound system by Yamaha that was about the smae price of the TV haha. If you don't have a surround sound I do suggest you turn off the Simulated surround sound in the menu. It waill make the TV sound a little better. The only other negative with hte television are in dark movie scenes they tend to look a little muddy. Not horrible but not as good as they should.

All in all at 599-629 (500 with tax for me ;) ) dollars this is a great Televison set. I do suggest if yuou buy this at least buy the 300 dollar Yamaha home theatre system with an included reciever. Yamaha YHT-380BL Home Theater in a Box (Black).

  2. I have owned this TV for about 9 months now and it is great. Very nice picture with Digital Cable and the HD channels looks amazing. I bought this from costco and paid around 650 for last thanksgiving. My parents have a high end Panasonic plazma and this was considerably cheaper but the picture and quality is only a little less, very good value. I would buy again from Vizio.

  3. Purchased this VIZIO 32" LCD/HDTV from an independent dealer on March 19, 2008,and was blown away. Setup was quick and simple. Less than quality picture on regular analog sdtv, but viewable. Looking forward to upgrading to HD cable. Once I hooked it to my pS2 and toshiba HD DVD player on the 1080i setting, the picture and sound was totally awesome. Receive a few on the air HD channels;reception great! My regular DVD videos are crisp and clear. Absolutely recommend to anyone who's in the market for an lcd hdtv of this magnitude: great new name, product and value. Will defintely buy VIZIO again!

  4. After alot of research and waiting for deals on tvs. I found this tv in a great online deal, I read some reviews some good and some bad. It was $415 w/ free shipping so I had to jump on the deal! Its a great tv of course its not the best quality but for the price, its amazing. I bought it refurbished so it does have 2 dead pixels, but you literally can't even notice it unless your a couple of inches away from the screen, and I pointed it out. If you don't have cable, you can buy an HDTV antenna and pick up your local channels in HD as well as alot of new channels, I picked up about 25 new channels when I bought my HDTV antenna.

Its awesome watching HD movies in Blu-ray with my PS3 and playing games as well. The sound is normal, if your getting an HDTV you should probably also invest in a sound system as well though. I love that it has PIP and also you can alternate the audio from the PIP from the main screen and the PIP screen, its a neat little feature.

I read a couple reviews a while back that said the tv died after 6 months, which was almost enough for me to not buy this tv. Well I did and its been one of the best purchases I've made, and I definitely enjoy this TV better then my old 32" crt, which took alot of space and added alot of heat to my room, not to mention they use more electricity as well.

Well despite those reviews I bought this tv, and I have had it since June of 2006. Its been 1 year and 3½ months and I don't regret buying this tv at all. I love this tv. Like one of the other reviewers said, Don't pay over $600 for this TV. At that price you can buy something a bit better. But don't be put off by Vizio just because they are not name brand.

PS: The remote is pretty good too and doesn't use too much battery, Im still using the original batteries that came with the TV.

  5. Bought this TV thinking I was getting a deal. You get what you pay for. We bought this TV for our spare bedroom. It worked fine for about 6 months then a dark pink color started showing up instead of all the white. After several calls to customer service in which we waited in excess of 45 minutes on the phone we finally got ahold of a live person! The product was still under warranty but we had to argue with them, send them pictures of what the TV was doing then we had to call and follow up. We went back and forth for about a week. Finally they agreed to send us a box with a prepaid shipping label. We waited a while and it never showed up. We had to call again and wait another hour on the phone. Finally they sent out the lable but not the box. Another 45 min wait on the phone and we got them to send out a box. We sent it to Vizio and then received a call a week later. They said they would be sending a "factory reconditioned" TV - rediculous! We purchased the TV brand new - how on earth do we deserve a factory "reconditioned" TV. This means we're getting a TV that someone previously owned in place of the brand new TV we purchased. As I sit here we still have not received the "reconditioned TV" and it's been 2 weeks. We'll hopefully eventually receive the TV but I know this game...it will probably only work for another 6 months and then it will be out of warranty! STAY AS FAR AWAY AS YOU CAN FROM ANY VIZIO PRODUCT!!! This is not how valued customers should be treated! I would encourage you to make sure you read reviews on any product prior to purchase. The reviews are generally good insight to what you can expect. I don't want to recommend any other brands so my review does not seem bias...I just want to make sure that others don't make the same mistake my wife and I did!

  1. The VIZIO VX37L - 37" LCD HDTV exceeded my expectations. Model 10A from TigerDirect had more features than the model 20A purchased at a local store. Be sure see if you have a model choice and any difference between them. Both TVs were similar in price, but the TV from TigerDirect was delivered to my door at a lower price and faster than expected.

  2. broken in 1 year. still with warranty, but they want you to pay shipping for a replacement of RE-Certified TV!

    mediocre customer service. Cold polite.

  3. I love this tv!! After much research I finally chose to purchase this tv. It is great for what I need for it. The picture is excellent, as long as you are at the right distance, but that goes for any larger tv. I would definately recommend this unit.

  4. I got this television about 1 year ago for $800 (including 8% CA tax) at Costco.
    And I love it!

At first, I thought the picture quality could use a little improvement (needed more crisp). But, my eyes quickly got used to it and I was satisfied with the picture.

The sound quality is good as well.

Further, I like the appearance of it & the remote is nice looking too.
The design & color scheme is nice, and I can see it matching a lot of decor themes/colors.

Also, it is easy to clean!

Personally, I don't like widescreen views when they stretch the picture horizontally (makes things/people appear wider--not at all figure flattering!).. so I set the television view to "normal" so the (left &right) sides are blackened to adjust the picture to it's intended dimensions and not stretched horizontally to accommodate the widescreen. (The television view can be adjusted to: normal, wide, panaromic, & zoom)

Overall, I would recommend it! :)
(One may question why would a nice television be so economical versus the other HDTV brands..Vizio is a relatively new brand--since their reputation is not concisely established, I assume that they may have their products at more affordable rates to reach wider customer bases)

  5. I have heard this unit get so many bad reviews for some odd reason. I recently purchased a refurbished unit for $600. That's a steal when looking at the tv market now adays. The unit is absolutely stunning and produces a really high quality picture. I'm a bit of a gamer and have my PS3 hooked up through an HDMI cable and it looks absolutely superb. I also have an Xbox 360 hooked up through the composite cables, and even with the factory cables there is a definitive difference. I consider myself a pretty big gamer and this TV is exactly what I was looking for. I don't need a TV that's going to cost so much that I have to re-mortgage my house but I also don't want one that is going to look like it was a budget item. The sound is simply wonderful and it is simply hooked up to an surround sound system. I was a little skeptical at first but after a lot of research and actually receiving the unit I am nothing but please with it. For anyone on a budget and cannot afford a more high end model this is the tv your looking for. It might not have some of the little extras that the more expensive television sets have but at that price who can complain.

  1. I love my polaroid tv. TV's like this can save a relationship with its split screen especially if you are a gamer like I am. It is very easy to opperate. It was one of the greatest buys I have ever made however, after 10 months of use (extensive use becuase I use(d) it for a computer monitor as well as a TV and gaming TV) the power wouldn't come back on. After emailing Polaroid about the problem they sent me a new power unit and told me to expect a call 2 buisness days after recieving it for a repair specialist to call me. It has been over a month since reported and just under a month since I recieved the part that needed to be replaced. I have had to buy a labtop in order to do my homework and other internet based activities. Their Customer Service is great and communicate well however, their repair specialists need to be more prompt. A+ for the TV A for the Customer Service and an incomplete as of one month after contact for the Repair Team.

  2. I went to an area retailer to purchase this set and came back another day with STAR WARS: REVENGE OF THE SITH on dvd to see how it handled starfields, blacks, and the main characters dark colored robe. The robe disappeared, the star fields were not clear, and worse, when I popped out my dvd it was so hot I thought surely the set may have damaged my film. I put my hand on the back of the tv and was stunned to see how hot the attached player was. I am surprised Poloroid hasnt recalled these machines as a safety hazard. DVDs are not meant to be cooked while playing. Very poor all the way around. Do not buy. Avoid.

  3. Has a nice picture, and supports up to 720p HD, but the integrated DVD player does not play HD DVD's. That doesn't bother me much considering the DVD player in it burnt out after a few days. The Television also functions almost like a heater with how hot it gets, but the picture is very nice, and many display channels allow it to be pretty versatile.
