  1. Overall a really great small TV.

Pros: small size which is good for a small space (ours sits atop a dresser in our bedroom); sleek and nice looking; for some unexplained reason, we started getting HDTV channels when we do not have that as part of our cable package (nice surprize); really good picture quality; Toshiba TVs typically rank high in quality.

Cons: takes a long time (7-10 seconds) for the TV to turn on once the on button is pressed; also takes a longer time than expected for channels to change; sound quality is fair to good but not great (in a small room it is sufficient.

Overall, I do recommend this product.

  1. Bought this elsewhere day before Thanksgiving, price was amazing including a 10% off coupon putting it below $1,000. Nice picture, would like to find remote code for it so I can use my cable remote or a universal.

  2. I got the 47" Olevia 247tfhd from circuit city thanksgiving online deal for $1100 . I did not really know what to expect but the deal was too good to miss.
This TV turned out excellent. It has very natural colors. LCD screen is actually build by sharp. HDTV looks perfect. Sound is very good, much better than what you would expect for the price. Menu system is nice when you get used to it. Built quality is good. My only complaint is that I could not program its remote to my comcast remote.
I would recommend this tv without hesitation.

  3. I got this product during an online special for $1099. After having it for almost a month I have to say the picture quality for the HD channels are amazing. I also own Sharp LCD, and Olevia has better picture quality than my Sharp. The SD channels are not that great, but who buys a 1080P to watch SD channels right :). I didn't get a chance to test 1080P resolution yet but once I get my HDDVD player (hopefully for x-mas) I will add the comments for that as well. For me it was a great deal...

  4. This tv is great picture is great and the coolest feature is the split screen feature where you can watch or play to diff things at once. for ex. you can play ps3 and the wii at the same time or you can watch a movie on your hd or blu-ray and have the same movie on your standard player at the same time to see the diff. i love to do that to my friends that say theres no diff between hd and standard. and for $1000 - $1200 you cant and wont find a better tv. trust you dont have to spend the extra 1000 just for a sony, you can get a system for your home theater to go with this tv instead.

  5. This television is really an exceptional deal. I had been slow to upgrade to HD in the bedroom, but, after reading reviews in CR (where it was noted as a "Great Buy") I checked it out at a local retailer. I was able to get one for under $1100 and am extremely happy with it. Big, bright, clear, cheap (but not cheaply made)--everything you'd want! I especially appreciate the fact that it was surprisingly easy to set up. I don't have a dish or cable connection in the bedroom, so, I just hooked it up to a very old antenna (probably was used to pick up Ed Sullivan) and the television automatically searched for the channels in my area and presto, up and running in literally under 5 minutes. I live approximately 50 miles from the nearest television towers and all expected channels came in perfect. I'm even receiving a number of channels that I didn't even know where available in our area. The design is nice and understated, although the blue light on the front when the television is turned off is a bit bright for a bedroom (although I think there is a way to turn that off-just haven't figured it out yet). Remote is very nice with soft rubbery keys that have back lighting. I think anyone would be happy with this purchase.

  1. I just bought this item yesterday...I am about to return it today. Basically, the main purpose I had in mind for this TV was simply to watch SD content (older movies, TV, games, etc.) - what else!? that's basically all this thing is capable of according to the specs. So far so good. After much 'research' and thinking and consulting, I decided to go with this TV, but also because of what it seemed to be capable of when I saw it on display at Target.
Well, I probably should have known better, but I was about to get what was coming to me from this LCD - VERY poor SD quality! In short, if you're looking for a nice LCD TV to watch your good ole' standard movies and games on, this is NOT the TV for you! The 'confusing' part of this whole thing is, what in the WORLD is the point of this TV!?!?!? It's pretty much common knowledge that SD content looks considerably better on tube TVs and pretty crummy on LCDs and other of the newer technologies. So, that in mind, this TV, having only the capability to display SD content (given its resolution of 640x480), is basically worthless (unless you like a super-soft, undefined image) in all areas except for, perhaps, component-video-related material (more or less DVDs). I guess if that's all you're looking for, is to watch DVDs and you have component outputs on your player, this TV may not be so bad (the picture is quite sharp from what I saw), but you're not getting high definition from it and therefore, it is essentially geared toward (or should be geared toward) standard TV watching.
However, I don't necessarily 'blame' the TV itself. As far as it's capabilities, I suppose I wasn't completely dissatisfied with its performance - even though I got turned off immediately after seeing it display SD content like an old Atari game. The colors and image itself is not 'bad' in any real sense. However, a big criticism I have of this set is its LACK of features. VERY VERY plain set over all (including the remote). There's really only so much you can do with this TV - and that includes watching DVDs, VHS (and whatever else you can hook up with component or audio connections) tv-watching to some extent (cable, and OTA broadcasting - and oh, don't forget it does NOT have a digital ATSC tuner for digital television - another prohibiting factor) and using it as a computer monitor...but who would do ANY of that, considering you're essentially using the WRONG technology for the stuff you wanna watch? Ok, I did it. But I learned a valuable lesson about the new technologies that are out there, and I hope to save others the trouble of learning this lesson the hard way. What I've learned is the following (and this addresses a major issue concerning modern TVs): you wanna watch SD, stick with the (better quality) tubes; you want HD - go with the new. It's that simple.
Well, sorry for the lecture, but I had to give the whole story on this. To summarize, be careful WHAT you use this TV for! I am "not sure" and rather disappointed about this TV for actually mainly one reason...the PRICE!!! For this price, the TV should do A LOT more than what it is capable of! Bottom line. If it were about $150 less, I might consider it for its very minimal benefits.

  2. We needed an unobtrusive TV in the kitchen. We picked this on up at K-Mart for $249 on clearance. The picture is adequate, but that is all we needed in the kitchen.

  3. I bought this TV for about $350 for my shop. I had hoped to mount it to the wall so it could pan and swivel, no such luck. After trying two different wall mounts neither one would hold the TV up. There was too much force pulling the top of the TV toward the floor.

If you look at the picture you can see the base that holds the TV up, this can rotate back for wall mounting, doing this changes the center of gravity creating a lot of force on the base of the TV. I came out the next morning to find the base of the TV had broken because of this oversight in engineering. Maybe this TV was never meant to be wall-mounted.

I have had no luck with Magnavox in getting a replacement part, so I currently have a TV with no base to stand on.

I have not tried this TV with my PS3 yet, but the S-video signal from my satellite receiver is average at best.

  1. I brought this Audiovox TFT3500 3.5" Handheld TV with A/C Adapter and it beats all the Casio's down cold. Only warning I have is the Audiovox TFT3500 3.5" Handheld TV with A/C Adapter
shown on the Amazon.com webpage is blue in color. The Audiovox TFT3500 3.5" Handheld TV with A/C Adapter
I got was silver which was no big deal for me. I just throw that in just in case someone had there heart set on the blue shown in the picture.

The best thing about the TV is the AC Adapter. None of the Casio's I saw at Amazon come with an AC adapter as part of the original product. The color is pretty good all things considered. Reception is reasonably good. Of course your signal is only good as your location. Expect horrid pictures in big fat office buildings where computers electronics and shileding almost insure a bad picture. At home in the county my picture quality is great at work in a big fat office building the picture and sound are ok but not without distrubance.

Tuning this unit is easy as pie. It has few buttons and those it has are basic easily understood and mastered. The unit is light weight. The picture is bright and the colors are crisp even in high light glare filled environments. The sound is ok if you want higher quality sound buy a nice set of earphones and you are set. I have watched high toned educational programs like "Jerry Springer" on this hand held television and never missed a punch, bleeped out curse word or hair pull yet due to interference.

Battery's last about 2 hours if you are lucky. I brought rechargable batteries to save money and they work fine. If their are down sides to this unit I have yet to experience any of them. For the price this is a nice hand held TV with a bigger screen than some I have seen at higher prices. I recommend this Audiovox TFT3500 3.5" Handheld TV with A/C Adapter
because it works well and so far is holding up nicely.

  2. This thing won't pick up a tv station a half mile from the tower. Really a total waste of money. The only reason I didn't send it back was I waited too long to do so.

  1. The television itself works great, but there was about a 2" dent and gash on the front of the tv when we received it from the handling during the shipment. That wasn't Amazon's fault and it wasn't worth sending the tv back. We are very pleased with the product.

  2. The toshiba is an excellent stanard definition tv,offering good picture and sound at a budget price.Since Flat panels are in vogue, this is a good time to pick up one of these closeout models from Toshiba. The tv is big and heavy, but you get tried and true technology.I own this set as well as an hd sony and i really enjoy watching this tv...I would buy this locally as many customers who purchased tvs online through amazon have had ship damage problems, including myself.Thank you for reading my review.

  3. The product specs may be a little out of date here. My parents just bought one of these, and it has an NTSC/ATSC/QAM tuner and 16:9 mode. I helped them set it up and explained digital television channels to them.

My only beef with this model is that it doesn't let you manually input digital channels - you have to let the TV search for them.

  4. Toshiba 32D47 32" SuperTube CRT TV
The picture is pretty good; controls are reasonably convenient. But the sound quality is uneven. On one channel the sound is so scratchy that the channel is unusuable.

5 comments about Olevia 37" 720p LCD HDTV - 237T.
  1. We installed our TV last night and overall we are very happy with our purchase. We took advantage of the sale at Target and after applying for their credit card, the price was way too attractive.

I haven't adjusted any settings (even the ones recommended in quick reference manual) yet. Will do those things as time permits and will update this review if I come across something significant.

I connected an existing cheap rabbit ears antenna to the TV and it scanned and found numerous SD and HD channels. HD off the air reception is just wonderful.

This TV has only one antenna input. We have cable (no HD) coming out from co-axial cable and this rabbit ears antenna that also connects to the antenna via co-axial. Fortunately, I had a co-axial cable splitter (Y) and it worked perfectly. I connected cable output and antenna output to each of the inputs of Y splitter and connected the output of Y to TV. When I set the TV to the channel where cable is coming, TV automatically switches to cable channels and then I use cable remote to change the cable channels.

    Standard definition programs:
SD, on the other hand, was worse than our 10-year old 27" CRT TV on some channels. What is interesting is, the advertisements looked very sharp, bright, and colorful. Programs themselves were mediocre. It is possible that the channels we tried either weren't recorded with best quality or not transmitted at best quality. I have to see how I can improve the quality of SD programs. We really don't want to subscribe to HD cable.

    HD Off-the-air programs:
Way more than satisfactory to my eyes. If you go to a store and compared the screen of 237H to some other brand/model, you may find this inferior. Other brands "may be" really good or may be they were just setup that way on display. But, you will be very happy that you saved hundreds of $ since picture quality seems wonderful at home. (We also have a 61" Samsung HD DLP TV in the living room. So, I do know what to expect from a HD TV.)

    Panorama mode aspect:
Panorama mode is disappointing on 237H. (Panorama mode streatches 4:3 picture to 16:9 in such a way that people and things in the middle of the picture don't look fat and stretched. The way they do it is by keeping the picture in the middle intact and streching progressively on the left and right sides of the picture.) Panorama mode on our main TV (DLP) is really smooth and we use it a lot, but on 237H it is very bad. I am not sure if we will ever use that aspect mode. The problem in 237H is that it looks like we are watching the TV through a fish bowl.

    Other:
I have read some people complain that channel switching is slow. I haven't noticed anything like that. It worked fine for me.

My TV has 2 HDMI inputs - I have read elsewhere that some people got only one HDMI input.

The TV came with one HDMI cable, one power cable, quick reference poster, remote control + batteries, and a CD ROM. Manual is only in CD ROM - no book is supplied. You will be able to find the manual of 237V (almost identical TV) on the Internet.

When the TV is powered off, a bright blue LED light comes on and it goes off when the TV is powered on. It is way too bright in the bed room; I have to cover it up with some tape. In a living room, it may act like a night light.

It was very easy to setup - took me less than one hour to take down existing TV, place this TV, make all the connections, perform basic initial setup, and start watching (enjoying) the programs.

    Update 6/15/2007:
Setup menu allows to disable (turn off) the bright blue LED in the front.
No PIP buttons on the remote; you have to use setup menu to control PIP. Based on some threads on forums elsewhere on the Internet, PIP function has limitations.
Yes, you can view the picture for full 178 degrees, but the picture quality starts deteriorate as you move away from the front.
Still enjoying the product very much and very happy with the purchase.

    Update 6/18/2007:
Standard definition picture quality is now acceptable after setting noise reduction to high and iDEA setting to black level control.

    Update 7/3/2007:
My camera (Canon S2 IS) can shoot excellent video in VGA (640x480) resolution. When I play the video on my other DLP TV, it would stretch the video to fit the screen and blur the picture. 237T supports a display aspect called 1:1 which will show the video as it is without any stretching. I like this feature a lot - even though the picture size becomes small, the quality is very pleasing.

  2. I bought the TV from Target.com and got the set in a reasonable amount of time. I have a problem that makes me withhold judgment. It shuts down periodically, no power at all. I can hear the transformer powering up and down so I think it's a thermal problem.

Called Olevia and they suggested I return it. I just went through the replacement process so I'll be working through that process.

While it has been working (about 45 minutes at a time) I really like the picture and it's auto scan did a good job on my cable (analog and digital). If not for the power-down I'd rate the TV very high. And the channels do change slowly, but a lot better than on my ReplayTV.

  3. I did plenty of research on this TV and it has surpased all my expectations. This set has 2 hdmi slots and included is a 6ft hdmi cable. The owners manual is on cd but if you own any amount of newer electronic equipment is is no big deal. Very easy to make all the adjustments, color, tint, temp. It has a bright blue led standby light that makes for a nice nightlite but it can be disabled. I hooked it up to a HD antenna and the picture is superb. I have a 55" Sony and it is every bit as good. Very easy to program the hd channels and gives you a strength signal as it goes through the program. I would definatley recommend this product, watch for the deals I got mine for under $500. Olevia is on the rise in the LCD market

  4. I was very hesitant to buy Ovelia Brand but after reading reviews i decided to buy Oevia 37". So far(3 months)the experience has been FANTASTIC ! HD chennel display is awesome. one good thing is it has 2 S-video input ports and 2 HDMI inputs. The sound quality is excelleent.I would definitley recommend this product.

  5. I would not recommend this product to anyone! Within five months, the tv was shutting itself off and on several times a day. The manufacturer told us to upload new software from their site. We did, and the set would no longer turn on at all. We asked them for a replacement set. They said they would send a refurbished or out of the box replacement. (The 1 year warranty wouldn't start over, either.) We weren't too happy about that, but thought it was better than nothing. Three weeks, and a dozen phone calls later, and we still don't have a tv. Customer service has been quite rude and unhelpful, and will only refund our purchase at a prorated rate. You have got to be kidding! ~ I wish we had checked out The Better Business Bureau on this company before purchasing.

  1. This TV has an amazing picture from every source that I have hooked up to it (Comcast HD, XBox 360, PS3 & Blu Ray). That's the end of the good news.

The customer service folks from LG are not all that helpful and you'll get transfered a few times before getting to the TV Warrany people. I spent 55 minutes on the phone during my last experience, the majority of that time was spent listening to elevator music, waiting to get an appointment with one of their authorized repair goons. My Amazing picture has been amazingly broken for 37 days now ... they've made two attempts to fix it and both failed (well, actually, one succeeded for about 4 hours), the remainder of that 37 days has been spent waiting on backorder parts and rescheduling appointments.

Hopefully yours will not break down because LG, although they claim to be the greatest company since sliced peanut butter, do not blink at allowing a customer to sit with a broken product for over a month during the holidays. I purchased two LCD TV's for Christmas and you can bet your sweet rear that they do not have an "LG" label on them.

Did I already mention that it looked great while it worked (almost a whole year).
