  1. I purchased a Westinghouse TV and within 4 months the TV was broken. At that point I called customer support and they were NOT willing to stand behind thier product. I asked if they found it reasonable for a TV go out in 4 months, all they said was that they could not help me.

  2. I've never reviewed a product on Amazon before despite my many purchases here. However, I've been so frustrated by this particular TV that the time has come. I was able to use my TV for about 10 minutes - during which I have to say it looked and sounded pretty good - and then the sound went out. Completely. I returned the unit at my own cost to Westinghouse. That was in April 2008, this is almost July, and I still...don't...have a TV. Their warranty process is completely screwed up, and though the agents on the phone are plenty nice, they can't do a darn thing. So enjoy the TV if it works for you, but if it doesn't, be prepared for a long, drawn-out torture of customer service absurdity. You've been warned.

  3. I bougth this tv last February at Wal-Mart after 4 months the unit just won't turn on.Called up Westinghouse and they said it might be the power cord i tried buying another power cord which cost me, and still the problem is still the same. I don't recommend this product to anybody..

  4. I guess I made a mistake going against my better instincts and not buying a better known brand. The TV was great for about a month and then the picture just went crazy. Everything was covered in neon green static. I'm hoping to have better luck with customer service than some of the other people here, but after reading their experiences, I'm not too hopeful. Lesson learned, spend the extra money and get a quality brand.

  5. The common axiom used when a product with a low price point breaks is "You get what you pay for." I believe this sort of thinking is problematic in the consumers' never ending quest to be respected by the companies from which we purchase goods.

In the case of the Westinghouse line of LCD t.v.s this is especially true. Yes the t.v.s' low prices can be considered a warning to stay away but they shouldn't be. When we just chalk a $700 t.v. that is defective up to "getting what we pay for", we create a climate where not only do we expect to get ripped off, Westinghouse is vindicated in a round about way. A defective t.v. is not worth $700 dollars. So no I did not get what I paid for. At any price a product should be expected to function properly for a reasonable amount of time. If a manufacturer or retail outlet knows that it will not, it should not be available for sale.

Saying "well I guess I got what I paid for" is tantamount to saying if Westinghouse or any other manufacturer sales wares at a reasonable price, they do not have a responsibility to provide a functioning product.

Unfortunately the only way to hold them accountable at this point is to keep spreading the word in hopes that consumers will become wary enough of their products the business folds. But there will no doubt always be a long line of budget conscious consumers being punished for looking for a deal.

  1. I feel like I am in heaven everytime I watch this television set. what made me purchase it was the reviews I read from amazon-reviewers.

They were right about the picture quality. It is so beautiful and better than any I have ever seen. It is very heavy and needs its own tv stand. But it is just right for my condo. It is large enough to make me feel like I am in the movies but not too overbearing for my livingroom space. That's what I was looking for.

You don't need to buy a theater surround sound because it has a very powerful surround sound of its own. I do have cable and when I turn to my easy-listening music cable channels I am able to hear quality sounds that is bar-none to any other and my music sounds like I am in the studio or orchestra with the muscians.

I love it when a movie is beginning, the sound makes you feel like you are in the movie theater. If you don't want that grand movie feel, you can adjust the picture screen to become smaller and intimate -- it is up to your taste.

I saw an HD movie with kevin Costner and Kelly Preston where he played a baseball player. The HD was so powerful that when he pitched the fast ball towards me I screamed because it looked like he was going to hit me with that ball. (3-D movies were never this good)

And Scary movies, I just love to watch scary movies on this set. Even old movies with Boris karloff are scrary on this tv set.

I was lucky -- best buy sold this set with free shipping and I was able to get it for less than $970.00. because of the holidays.-- The shipping is generally over $100.oo because of the weight of this set. However, it is well worth it no matter where you buy it or how much you pay for shipping.

You will get a return on the quality and enjoyment you will receive from this set. Beware -- before I found this set at Best Buy it was sold out by sony's official web site -- so they gave me a list of their affiliates from california to New York and they were also sold out.

I want to thank all of the reviewers who reviewed this set before me because their comments helped me to buy this set which brought a lot of joy to my family. THANK YOU ALL!

  2. It's mid 2007, and my local Circut City had this set sitting on the store floor, not selling for I sware 2 or 3 months. I had been in the market for a new TV...and I had been tempted to buy a LCD or at least a big rear projection...I'm very happy I didn't now! They sold me this new floor model "Open Box" for just over $500 bucks. An extra $109 got me the 4 year warranty, and because I felt like I had saved a ton compared to what I had planned on spending for a LCD, I bought the super high winder cables and a upconverting DVD player. Ok. Everyone is right. IT's HEAVY. But who cares. Once it was in my den, I don't plan on moving it. It fits perfectly...and the picture IS better than an LCD or Plasma screen. My lazyboy couch is less than 8 feet from the television, just based on the size of the room, and it's perfect. My 7 year old son renamed the room, "The Movie Theater Room" because it plays 1080i upconverted DVDs so brilliantly. Just like the others who talked about this TV in other posts...if you can find one, and don't plan on moving your television or care if it hangs on a wall...this picture is better and ironically CHEAPER than anything else out there. The sales guy said this would probably be the last chance to own one too...they are just going the way of the dinosaurs, because people don't want a tube TV anymore. Well, this is the caddy of them either way.

  3. As stated in the other reviews, it's VERY HEAVY and takes up a LOT of space! I put mine in a wide (6 foot opening) closet. The kind with 2 sets of bi-fold doors. It took up just over half of the opening (width) and all of the depth on one side of the closet. I wasn't using the closet for much anyway. All that being said, it was worth it! The HD picture (mine is via Dish Network) is the BEST. I had the tv for a very long time before I took advantage of HD, but after getting it, the picture is ASTOUNDING! CRT rules as far as picture quality is concerned. If you can find one (even used) and you have a strong back and the room for it, BUY IT!

  4. Pretty much out of style now, with the advances in LCD and plasma, this TV is the pinnacle of good old picture tube technology, and is still a stunner. I purchased mine in late 2004 for $1,500. Now LCDs in this size range go for $500 to $700. But back in the day, this beat LCD and Plasma hands down in picture and price.

Big, bulky and heavy, weighing in at something like 170 lbs, this TV delivers a gorgeous HDTV picture in either 720p or 1080i. Sound is very good from the built in speakers. It features an HDMI jack, several component, composite and S-Video jacks as well. The onscreen menu is easily navigated and easy to figure out. In the 3 years I've owned it, it's given me nothing less than 100% perfect performance, and has taken a fair amount of abuse from my young son. LCDs just can't take abuse.

The only negative except size and weight, is that it does not come with a built-in HD Tuner. You will require an HD box of some sort from your cable or satellite company to view HD.

  5. My husband and I purchased this tv almost 3 years ago and have been nothing but pleased with the unit. We recently recognized how wonderful the HD features are and how clear the picutre really is (sadly we just realized this when we got an HD box from the cable company...we thought it cost extra-we were wrong!) The only drawback is that this is a big, heavy tv, and difficult to move, so I would suggest picking a good spot and keeping it there as long as possible. Overall, I would absolutely suggest the television!

  1. I can't believe that NOBODY's rated this TV since I bought it during Black Friday in 2006 from Best Buy (today's review is done on 7/13/08)....

For those of you who want an economical LCD TV, I have nothing bad to say about it. Not a single problem (fingers crossed). The only "problem" (if you can call it that) is that when I have a power problem in the home (as in no electricity due to storms) and when the power comes back on to the home, my TV would automatically turn back on! If I am away on an extended leave (such as vacation for several weeks), you can imagine wasted electricity used.

I now simply just flip the power surge bar to the "off" position when I travel.

I guess you can look at it another way - this way I know that there was a power problem to the home when I get back home from work :)

  1. We have had this TV for three weeks. It's hooked up to an SD DirecTV signal. It does pretty well with an SD signal, but it tends to try to readjust the picture frequently, even during the same show. It's a little bizarre. They other issue we have is with he DVD player. It seems very slow to recognize any DVD. And then it's slow to forward through chapters and can tend to lock up if you try to forward through chapters too quickly. We bought this TV for under $500 at Best Buy, but even at that price it's going back.

  2. Don't buy this TV if you want to mount in on the wall! Special "screw extensions" are required according to the owners manual, where they give an 800# to order them. I called to order them (40$) and the guy said "we don't have them in stock and I don't know when we can get them". So, unbelievable, right!?
You can't wall mount it without a 40$ kit that they can't get for you even if you want to buy it.
I'd pass if I were you.
    Godd luck friends!

  3. Brought this set and had to return it 2 weeks later. The DVD player didn't reconize DVDs that we can play with other DVD players. For the 1 DVD it could play, it didn't eject it out. We called the service center and was told to unplug the set, leave it for a minute, then re-plug in so the TV/DVD would reset itself. We tired it a few times but it didn't work. We had to bring it to a service center. The technician had to open up the DVD player and took out the DVD for us. The picture quality was good if you look at it at eye level. If the TV is on a dresser, and kids watch it sitting on the floor the image is bad, ghost like, bad vertical viewing angle. We connected it to the cable and it did pick up all channels available. The tunner works fine. We returend the set instead of exchanging it because the DVD player didn't work and the picture quality is good but not exceptional.

  4. Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R1LJJQELQRWGBW The First type TV that I have bought with a DVD Combo on it, works well in my opinion and I would suggest it to someone that is looking for a nice bedroom or small type room TV. I can say that the speakers on the TV are just stock speakers so the sound is just good enough for the average person and is much like an average TV speaker system so If you want surround sound to it, just buy a coaxial cable and hook it up to a surround sound system that has a coaxial input to it. The DVD Player shows all movies very good and I can't really say if they are upscaled or anything, but all I know is they look pretty good, like a movie should look on any TV.

Note: - - - (About the Resolution) I have searched on the internet to find more about this TV and all the sites I have seen show this TV to have a Top resolution of 1080i resolution which is great, But for some reason my shows in 1080p resolution which is the highest you can go.

UPDATE - - I have been told that the TV is just picking up the 1080p signal, But that the TV is Downsourcing the signal to only 720p thus the info (1366 x 768p Hig Def resolution) Listed on the Product Description info part on the internet.

    - - - Wow Amazon dropped the price of this TV, it was listed for $750 in early April 08 !!! Even Better & Free Shipping !!

  5. I bought this TV based on the fact that I have always owned Magnavox TVs. I have had it about 6 months and have not been disappointed at all. If I had to pick one fault....one other reviewer pointed out, it takes a little long to get the picture after pushing the power button. But to me this is a minor detail. good picture, good sound and I got it at Best Buy for less than is listed here.
